I need some help in using my NaviPanel...
Using NRG's 23xxx CHT Dinik glass theme and want to use my NaviPanel with my Copilot but it doesn't work. The only thing that works 'Make a Call'.
'Footprints' 'Go Home' 'Address' 'Recent' & 'Navigation' are all dull and connot be used.
I use a CoPilot .cab (Dutty GPS_Copilot_1_0_0_457) with a paid subscription for the year.
Does anyone know of a wayto make the NaviPanel recognise them???
I have the same problem and have had it with the last two versions of copilot with a wide range of Dutty's holy grail roms. Tried a htc hotfix at one point with no success
Can you list the names of all the files in your \Program Files\CoPilot folder?
This post shows how to use iGo with NaviPanel instead of CoPilot. You can see that the NaviPanel is looking for exe's with a certain name in order to launch. Can you confirm that you have those files in the correct location?
I cannot find the thread , but someone else had this problem, and it was because they installed Copilot to the SD card and not to device memory, that may help may not ...
Just a thought ...
I now navipanel looks in device memory ...

Hi targett,
Your list of files is slightly different than mine, but at least we have the same exe files.
I've been looking through my storage and have noticed that my \Windows folder also contains the same files as my \Program Files\CoPilot folder. Can you try copying the contents of your \Program Files\CoPilot folder (excluding the subfolders) to \Windows?
Don't want to teach you to suck eggs, but just backup your settings in case you overwrite something in \Windows which screws up the phone.

This doesn't work either
I've searched my registry and I couldn't find any registry keys which can be used to configure NaviPanel. Does CoPilot work on its own? Can you confirm that it is installed to \Program Files\CoPilot (case sensitive)? I'm afraid other than that, I really don't know.
Same problem here.
In some topics there are mentioned interface to file NaviSWMiddle_CoPilot.dll on NW registry.
But I do not have that file on \Windows.
I have latest ROM with recently updated CarKit HotFix.
Any suggestion ?
Try this:
Activation of the navigation buttons in the Navi Panel without installing software Copilot - create a new registry key: HKLM\Software\HTC\NaviSW\SDKModule with value \windows\alksdk.dll.
Double post...
Sorry

This worked for me. I also copied both Google Maps and Bing (did these separately of course) folders to a folder called \Program Files\CoPilot and renamed the exe file to CoPilot and both programs launch successfully from the Navi Panel maps icon.
HELP!!!
jirkab: i try to use your method to create the registry, but it failed. I think i have used the wrong method on creating the \windows\alksdk.dll. or may be i m missing some files.
could u pls guide me through more details step, thks...
Try this simple .cab with only one registry change.
Solved
I spent lots of time on this. After a couple of pointless ROM updates, HTC sent me a Navipanel CAB for Copilot.
I then had to update Microsoft .NET Compact Framework
Works like a dream.
I bought my HTC in Hong Kong as I had been living there. HTC HK service was great, though it took a while to get it solved.
ALK (CoPilot) service is woeful. They couldn't care less.
In the end the HD2 and CoPilot are working like a dream.

Do you have a copy of this cab that you got from HTC. Could you please post it so i can try it.

I have a MDA Vario and I was Wondering
Which navigational program can I use / install on my Vario?
And where can i get it?
TomTom can be a pain to get installed and running. Search the forums for further advice. It took me a couple of attempts. Once installed it works perfectly. Get the scamera, sorry saftey camera database from www.pocketgps.co.uk it enables you to have appropriate warnings. e.g. 30mph warnings at 30 mph sites, 50mph warnings at 50mph locations. I have to pass 7 cameras on different speed roads each journey into work and it is nice to have a reminder where the sites are to allow me to check my speed. I have no experience of other SatNav software but there are some comprehensive reviews on the pocketgps site.

TomTom on MDA Vario
How did you manage to put TomTom 5 on a Vario? Every time I try I get a set up application error and asks if I want to send a report to Microsoft. I tried to install 3 and that failed as well.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Nich
There are better people to guide you through the steps necessary than me but this is what worked for me. Don't use the TomTom installer from CD. Extract the cab files from the CD, I use Winrar on my PC to do this. Copy the cabs over to the vario. Using a file explorer on the vario create the following directories. \tomtom, \My Documents\TomTom, \Storage Card\TomTom, and finally \Storage Card\zip. Copy your map to \Storage Card\Great-Britain-Map\. Copy Great_Brittain.Postal to \Storage Card\zip. Tap on the cab files one at a time. I don't think it matters which order you do the cabs. I soft reset between cabs but again I don't think this is essential. Once all the cabs have installed, DON'T start TomTom. Go to setting>connections>Bluetooth>Devices and setup a new partnership with your GPS unit. Tab to COM Ports and create a new port for the GPS. Leave Secure Connection unchecked. Mine is COM6. Using a file explorer, I use TotalCommander go to \My Documents\TomTom and edit CurrentMap.dat to point to your map folder on the storage card. Soft reset and when the vario is backup start TomTom from the startmenu. When asked to configure GPS choose Other Bluetooth and then COM6. I found it helped to be outside with a good satelite lock prior to this last step. TomTom will automatically turn on Blurtooth for you and switch it off again when TomTom is closed. TomTom does take an age to come up after tapping the startmenu but once running it is pretty responsive. If you overclock with OmapClock TomTom does come up quicker but it is still the slowest program on my vario to launch. If you need further help just shout. I will try to find the exact list of extracted cabs I used. I do know that the English Female voice is voice05.cab.
Al
Thanks for all this, unfortunately it did not work. When I tried to execute the cabs files, I get the message installation was unsuccessful.
Thanks for your help anyway.
Nich
rephrase:
Ok, installed the cab files per your instruction and also created a new partnership between my gps receiver and my MDA. It appears only serial 6 and 7 show up on mine and they both used. Am I suppose to creat a new serial port the GPS device? When I try to do it, it still only shows up 6 or 7 and it won't allow me to use neither.
Also, where do you put the voice file? I presume that is not a cab file.
Still trying to get mine to work. Almost there...I hope.
Thanks.

There are lots of posts about this problem on this and many other forums.
In brief - only TT V5.21 works on a WM5 ppc.
If you add an extra outgoing port for BT on either 6 or 7 TT V5.21 allows them to be used, V5 does not.
see my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43412 for full install instructions.

crashing when setup
hi ive just got my copy of tom tom and have installed both the standard and update.
when im trying to do my initial setup it crashes when i choose the map i want to use. i ahve no idea why?
any help?
p.s. it does work perfectly fine on a wm2003 pda
I would guess you are not using a copy from a shop!
Sounds like you have a file missing.... You need to create a directory \My Documents\TomTom
Then create a text file called Currentmap.dat with the following in:
! \Storage Card\Great_Britain-Map\
assuming you are using the UK map and its on your storage card.
Transfer this file to your device and then start TomTom and you should be ok.

3 Players now that work with the external screen:
WMP, Pocket Player, and HTC Audio Manager!
For HTC Audio Manager, go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313550
Take the contents of the "AudioManager" Folder and extract them all to your /windows/ directory (NOT just the folder, the files inside the folder need to be take out and put in the windows directory).
Using a registry explorer, go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\SecondaryDsp
There should already be a registry entry there called "AudioManager", if it's there, set it to "1".
If it's not there, create it and set it to one (I can't say for sure if it'll work or not though).
Restart your phone, and voila! A new, working MediaPlayer!
In the original topic, rickwyatt says "put in on your storage card".
As I have just 4MB storage left, I want to put it on my storage card. Is it possible?
Also, what advantage over WMP does HTC AM have?
yes it is possible to install on storage/storage card, cab-installer made by me is available here:
http://ren.redsys.ru/_private/HTC.Audio.Manager.WCE.BY.cab
But you need to copy all these files to \Windows\ directory to make it on external screen
It seems Audio Manager files should be extracted to \windows, if the external music keys need to work with it. Also the 'AudioManager' registry value is not found by default, so create it as a new DWORD value and assign it with '1'.
Yet I don't see any value this Audio Manager brings over on top of WMP, though it has a nice ipod like interface and supports playlists. Anyone found anything interesting about this new AM?
oh hell no dont intall this program, its not worth it.
Very diffcult to add playlist you have to add files one at a time
I was hoping an equalizer but does not have one
Im struggling to remove and set the buttons back to for WM player.
Damn stupid fucl<ing program

Nothing from AudioManager should have overwritten anything else.
Therefore, go to your \windows\ directory and look at the files in the zip archive. There you can see exactly which files to delete. To get the buttons back, go back to the HKLM\Software\HTC\SecondaryDsp\AudioManager and set the value to '0' instead of '1'.
As for advantages, just looks nice imho. I didn't really play with it yet.
Thanks ladies.
I installed and it worked. However I do NOT se any advantage over the WMP. This only looks cool because "dude, it's a HTC soft, dude". I'll stick with my WMP and occasionaly Pocket Player. No need for this

'tis true.
I'm going to play around with it more and if it seems faster or more stable than WMP I'll use it. Otherwise, I'll probably ditch it too.

Yup, PP is very unstable and the plugin makes the whole phone really damn slow.
In the other hand, WMP is quite fast for me. ANd I never experienced even one single crash with it (except using Oxios memory tools before). Only the way of opening files in WMP pis*es me off.
After a day of playing around, I've decided I don't like either WMP or AudioManager...lol
Not sure which I'll be sticking with yet....

well WM6 does support external screen already. So lets hope for it, coz then we can use any player we want and with small update it should display also informations on the external screen. But guess it's still a looong way

Oh. Check with the HTC website for your region or whatever branding is on your phone, their site.
The 4.x ROMs are for USA (not sure if EUR has them yet), but can be downloaded from here:
http://www.america.htc.com/support/3125/software-downloads.html
Note, however, that you may need to unlock your device completely (including CID) before installing a ROM from a different region. Instructions are on this forum.

Hi,
Just a couple of questions to ask.
Fist of all I did install HTC`s audio manager and its no different from the wmplayer. Only better at fast forwarding . Since the external display shows exactly the same things with both the players, I assume it is some kind of seperate driver, that "interconnects" with other software. Who ever wrote that piece of code that controlls the play/prev/next buttons , should be executed for stupidity... Was it SO difficult to add a fast forward ability omg. Does anyone know how to add such a function?
Also, one more thing I have installed PocketPlayer, but I cannot find anything concerning the external display thing... I cannot find any plugins, or options. Can someone please enlighten me?
I absolutely love this phone, (and since it cost me 170 euros...) but I wish I fast forward the player with out having to open the phone...
Thanks
For PocketPlayer you want the WM_Host plugin version 2.0. Once you copy the DLLs to the PP directory, you need to open PP and the Plugin controls panel then configure the plugin. FastForward should be supported in PP.
Thanks so much... I did what you said, I enabled the plugin, but still, no fast forward. Dunno maybe its just a crappy wmp plugin in the first place...
Hmm, you're right. I never really needed it though so I guess that's why I never noticed...
Post what you want on the Conduits forums. They're usually pretty good with filling feature requests. I bugged them about getting support for the External Screen on the StrTrk for a couple months and even though they said it seemed impossible, they finally got it
I was looking for a tool to make screenshots of my phone. But I couldn't find the 'perfect' app for it. So I wrote a tool myself.
It's called PocketScreen. It's been written in VB.NET so you need the .NET Compact Framework for it.
Attached is a screenshot of the application.
You can set a timer from 1 to 60 seconds (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 20, 30, 45 or 60 seconds)
Further you can decide to exit or focus the application after capture.
The supported filetypes are *.bmp, *.jpg, *.gif or *.png.
When you press the capture button it will automatically minimize the application.
I've tested this on a Wizard only but it should work on any PocketPC with .NETCF 2.0 installed.
Updates
Version 1.3 (10-11-2007)
Some users who tested the application reported an error when opening the directory browser. I cannot reproduce the error but I tried to 'fix' the error.
- Option focus and exit application after capture changed. Now either focus or exit must be selected to prevent the program to stay minimized in memory.
- Directory browser updated. Root is not shown.
- When an error occures while displaying the directory browser a window will be displayed with the error message. (please report)
- Subdirectories will not appear twice (or more) anymore after expanding/collapsing multiple times.
Version 1.2 (07-11-2007, 20:30)
- Settings will be saved on exit. (and will be loaded on startup, of course)
- It's possible to set the number of captures.
Version 1.1 (06-11-2007, 16:00)
- The default save as dialog has been replaced by a new directory browser. Now it's possible to choose a subdirectory to store the captured screenshot.
Nice one Rhapsody - works nicely and the ability to save to multiple file formats is great.
Apprecaite it
Appears very nice...this could be the new "screen capture" app everyone includes in their roms instead of Pocket screen Capture which will only save to the temp dir and will only save in .bmp
great tool, thank you for developing this useful app.
Works on the AXIM x50v with WM5.0 ROM A03
Thanks

Rhapsody,
Just figured I'd ask..I'm sure someone will build one if not....do you have an oem package version of the screen capture program for inclusion as a package in a rom? It's basically a zip with the exe and registry entries in a certain format with the executables compressed with upx.
I may try to build one..I'm new to the rom cooking business so usually I just grab ready made packages but if the registry entries are minimal I can probably figure it out.

The application doesn't use any registry at all. So I think the only settings which are stored in the registry are the shortcuts.

Nice App, trying it on my TyTN II. It works, but some things are not functioning.

Changing the location for where to save the image is not sticky. Also, cannot specifiy a directory to save to that is within another directory.

No worries, I appreciate the app and your hard work. Proceed at your leisure.
It seems like...we can all easily build ROMs....if you're in here, you're diggin in with dcd....
What we need is a list of OEMs that people can add into their ROMs.
For example...I found Arcsoft MMS: 4.2.8.1 OEM.
Go grab it here:
http://sudermatt.com/files/Optional_MMS_4281_10-29-07.zip
Simply unzip and drop it into the OEM folder....
Be aware...you'd better know your Carrier MMS Settings before attempting this one......

actually, if youre using it with my kitchen, the carrier packages should do the mms configuration for you. I've not tested 4.2.8.1 (i dont have vzw) but I was told it worked right off the bat.
It didn't for me....I had to dig around for a posting that gave the right settings.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10210
Of course....with OEMizer....I can easily create an rgu file with the settings built into the OEM I make and Cook in!

I will work on this. 3.0 and 4.2 must use different keys.
is there a cab for this version?
Here are some of the OEMs I use in my personal build...
Here is my mortscript OEM.
This binds the voice dialing key to a mortscript of mine for toggling the cellular data connection. Holding button 5 will connect if disconnected, or will disconnect (and disable) if connected. Script is included.
I use it to shut off cellular data at home, which is the only way ive found to make activesync use wifi for connecting back to mail2web.
Hi, how do you build an OEM, to insert in a rom? I would like to add aim 2.0 and a few other files
DCD, is there a OEM for HTC Home that you used to include in your custom versions? The one that has the today-settings panel?
idenkilla,
Believe me...it's not drag and drop...you have to dig in and get your geek on.
OEMizer is an app (search for it) that seems to help the process. I haven't really used it yet to turn cabs or other folder apps (those that do not require installation), into cookable OEM folders. It looks like it will work. I hope to have some time this weekend (its raining all weekend in LA) to play with it.
I will put up some sort of tutorial when I get it figured out. At least covering the simple stuff I understand.
I'm no programmer. I dabble. My big brained friends say, things like, "you know just enough to really 'f' things up" "you code works...unintelligable...but it seems to work".
Go into one of the OEM folders in the kitchen. Find one that is pretty simple that you have a good idea what the app is about. Look at the Option.xml file. Open the rgu file in notepad.
In OEMizer, do something really simple, like owner information, and build the OEM....look at it....you'll see what's going on....
What I don't really get is, the folder apps....I will have to tinker

It didn't for me....I had to dig around for a posting that gave the right settings.

Of course....with OEMizer....I can easily create an rgu file with the settings built into the OEM I make and Cook in!

Hmm, I couldn't get 4.2 to work on mine even using the settings for the 6700. I wonder what is different for you as compared to mine?
I can't remember all the steps I took....but here goes
The mms app only had one connection listed.
In the Registery, it was listed under some directory.
I remember seeing the registery directory "test" having the verizon settings...I modded those to match what the post said.
I copied "test" into the same directory as the default one.
Then I had to change a registry entry to show 2 connection settings in the application
Then I changed another registry entry to indicate which was the default connection I wanted to use.
Then I added a registry entry for my phone number.
Then I think it started working....
I cooked another ROM last night, so I have to redo all this stuff...I'll walk thru the steps again and repost.
But THIS time....I'm going to put it all down and use OEMizer so I don't ever have to do it again.
I'm really starting to see a LOT of value in that application....
working on integrating all my favs as oems into dcd's but I still have a way to go i suppose... keep getting the registry building errors.... blah
registry build error means you have non-unicode text in a reg file you edited somewhere. Make sure to open and save the file that causes the error with microsoft word, and save as, text, unicode encoding... That should eliminate those errors. a lot of text editor say they are saving as unicode, but don't stick strictly to the standard.

Believe me...it's not drag and drop...you have to dig in and get your geek on.

Actually, there is an app out there which pretty much does make it drag and drop.
Search on this site for the phrase "packagecreator". It was originally written and posted in one of the other forums here (i think the last version was 5.4).
It will open a cab, and export it and all of it's keys into a neatly written OEM folder. It even has the ability to mass-rename files in an OEM to avoid name conflicts when cooking.
This little beauty has worked for me on well over 99% (I can't claim 100% because I'm sure there's something out there that didn't work) of the OEMs I've created.
I find the program to be almost as valauble as the kitchen itself.

dcd1182 Thanks for all the work on this I have question about the oems you posted. I just started to play with the kitchen and when I add the HTC_XButton2_0_30995 the BuildOS gives me this error.
The file 'temp\dump\testsearch.bmp' already exists.
After doing some research it looks like the file is in both the HTC_XButton and AdobeReader is it ok to just delete one of them and try to run the BuildOS again?
Thanks,
dolivas

They are the same picture, it's fine to delete one, but this is a bug in buildos that should be fixed, it should prompt the user to keep existing, rename, or overwrite...

Package creator 5.4 works great, I've been using it for quite a while creating my OEM's. I use this combined with Mobile Registry Editor to extract stuff from the registry to put into the OEM so I don't have to keep setting stuff up every time I flash. For instance I have Slingplayer mobile in an OEM all configured and ready to go.

(Mods -- please move if you think should is in the wrong place)
One thing that bothers me about TouchFlo3d is the huge amount of files all stuffed into the "windows" folder. Is it possible to install to a different location? Wouldn't this greatly increase overall performance, since the (already huge) number of files in the windows folder would be reduced? Have any cooks tried this with their ROMS? Or, is it not even possible? I have searched as best I can but I have not found anything regarding this, nor any cabs/zip archives that will allow for installing Manilla to an alternate location.
It just seems to me that this would keep things neater and more organized in the file system, if it is possible. Or, am I just completely off-base on this?
It's not easy task - you have to hex edit Manila .exe files to set new path. Then you have to make a cab to move all 1000+ Manila files to new folder - but still increase of perfomance will be questionable

possible I've done it already I've even reduced the files from 1200+ to 600+ to speed up reading in \Windows folder.
The thing is, if you move the installation to another folder, existing cab modifications to manila need to be "re-cabbed", or the user needs to modify the cab itself before applying it. Only geeky guys would do this, and not the casual or silent flashers of ROMs. This would in turn have more newbie posts asking why the cab is not working etc., etc.

Ah, good point. Still, it would be nice if there was an easy way to handle this. i.e., is the "manila install path" stored anywhere in the registry which the cabs could reference? I guess not, sounds like its all hard-coded to use /windows. Anything we can do to reduce the contents of the Windows folder certainly can't hurt anything, and manila is the biggest offender for sure...

in any case, the manila files need to be cooked for better speed, and cooks are forced to use \Windows anyway as all files that are cooked are by default being put in there.

not always
The manila stuff really should be left there since it doesnt relly take up a HUGE ammount of space anyways, shame theres so many files though.
