Looking for SMS on low battery - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of any free programs that will send a sms text message alert triggered by low battery? I have searched but i can't find any freeware applications.
It seems pretty simple, so its hard for me to believe that there aren't any out there. Help?

WHY????
Why and who do you want to send a SMS on low battery?
Is it to alert you when the battery is low? Cause batti can alarm you when your battery is low, and that one is configurable.

Well, if i leave my phone somewhere, i want it to be able to send a text to my other phone to let me know if the battery is about to die.

one of a kind
haha, so you're that 'one of a kind' guy with two phones, who's leaving his other phone behind.
It probably also should send the GPS position in the SMS so you can track it back?

Could be a good idea to send messages to friends to alert them that your battery is low, I've been moaned at too often about not responding to messages when my battery is dead lol

+1 for this...

Yup, wanna keep a phone on my motorcycle (hidden of coarse) so it can send gps coordinates in case some jack nut steals my bike. Would like it to send notification of low battery. I could hook it up to the motorcycle battery but i don't want it to kill the battery. Instead i'll just get an extended battery and charge it when it gets low (hence the need for a sms notification).
After some more searching i found this which seems to be perfect. Mobile Receptionist.

the only thing its beta still but it looks promising

iMate JAMin (aka HTC Prophet) Battery Life - HELP!

I seem to get baffled by so many people in this forum talking about this device's (aka HTC Prophet) battery lasting upto two days+ or so. From the day I have bought this, I could never go past a day without charging it.
It would be 100% when I leave home at around 8AM. Around 11AM, it would drop to 70% charge, that too if had not made any calls. % of discharge would be worse if i were to take up calls during the commute. It would drop to a pathetic 30% around 4-5pm and will be dead by around 8PM. I am curious to know if the problem is unique to my device or others have similar issues. Is time that I changed my battery?
My call usage is around 30mts to 1hr every day and I have push email configured in pocket outlook (setting -> sync immediately as items arrive). I cant do "timed" POP3 as I will loose my e(g)mails on my PC which I would sync later after I get home.
I recently upgraded to Wm6 (WM5 ->PDAViet 4.0.0.0.5b cross->Crystal V1) and situation turned much worse.
My today screen has inesoft addressbook, Resco and phone alarm plug ins. I have disabled HTC home plugin.
I Have Handy launcher, Handy menu, inesoft caller id as default startup items.
Any expert suggestions / opinions? I have also noticed people on this forum talking about battery drain in mA. How to do this?
PS:Not sure where to post this. Moderators: Please move to an appropriate place if this place is not right!

HI,
If you want to monitor the battery usage, install battery status application, it will show in the today screen. Choose show more indicator, you will see the battery drain in mA and mW.
Thanks for the great app. I have installed it. What is the typical range for the power drain on Prophet?

Battery Drain - hardware or software?

First of all, hello to everyone. I have been reading through a lot of threads here in the last few weeks after getting my HD2, especially the ones about battery life.
I have never owned a smartphone, so I have no comparison but I'm barely getting through 1 day of use when fully charged! And I'm not even using it that much yet, Wifi is off, no data transfers, just some texting and calls. I have installed Bandswitch and Battlog, didn't really help though.
Got the phone brand new (T-Mobile US) and haven't done any major tweaking yet, it's still pretty much stock with a few programs that I installed so far.
Do you guys have a similar experience or is it completely different? I love the phone, but if I dont even get through one day of use (and I want to use the phone in the future, not just for surfing but for music streaming or web browsing), I would have to bring it back.
Any help appreciated!
It's just something you have to live with, buy a spare battery, or the extended battery, flash a lighter ROM, adjust screen brightness turn off push e-mails etc etc.
I can get 2 days battery from very light use. i.e. a few texts and calls a day, no Wi-Fi, bluetooth or internet browsing. That's just how smartphones are.
So how do you do it on a daily basis?
My battery is fully charged in the morning and lets assume I'm using the phone for what I bought it for - some music streaming, gps here and there if I need it, some web browsing, calls and texts etc.
I haven't even started using most of the features of the phone and my battery has died twice on my already while I was out at night.
How can that be normal or acceptable? I can't charge my battery every 6h...

Maybe you shouldn't have a smart phone? Battery technology is ****, it's a shame, but it's true. The only thing I can suggest is a spare battery, I carry one everywhere.
I generally watch an hour and a half of video a day on my phone, text, call, use the internet and I can still make a 9 hour day with 40%+ battery left, and just incase I am out and about in the evening before I have a chance to get the phone on charge I have the spare.
But with that said half hours charge from the mains will give you a good 30% topup I very seldom have to swap the batterys and I use a pretty juicy ROM.

or maybe not
Given his kind of use, 2 days should be normal. Right now I'm squeezing 3 days out of this battery, and that's only because I swap it out when it's at 10%, otherwise it could be a little longer... and a few calls here and there is not the only thing I did with it... it's still my work pda after all
Since it's pretty much stock, unless it gets better with time (the first recharging cycles are the worst) and even after a hard reset it won't get better, it probably is something wrong not software related.
Install battclock and check the standby battery drain, shouldn't be much higher than 4mA, up to 7mA could be normal, any higher than that, especially if significant, and you've got something wrong, and found the cause to the short battery life.
First off, buy a couple of cheap oem batteries from here...
Now, these eBay batteries have performed slightly better than the original battery...
Some of us smartphone users are so used to poor battery life we have power charging cradles at home work and car just to keep the charge up... And have spare batteries every in case of emergency...
I take my phone off the charger at 6am to go to work... My avg day is 6-10 calls, 20 reminders, an hour of UNO, an hour as a wifi router and I return home at 5pm with 50-60% battery life...
they are trying to make batteries smaller and thinner so they can make the phones thinner and smaller so battery life is compromised. But you do need to give it some time to settle in.
Back up batteries and cradles to charge them are cheap and an easy solution. So are extra chargers to keep at work, in the car, etc. Most people can charge their phone at least an hour during the day and that should give you all you need.
The only smartphone that I didn't carry an extra battery for was the moto q9c, because it came with an extended life battery. But on these phones, that probably isn't the best option.
So what did you guys do to improve the battery life of your HD2? Are there any specific programs (I heared about G-Profile) you are not supposed to use or did you guys just deinstall all the T-Mobile Apps?
If I can just get 1 day of actual use out of it I am OK with that. I just dont want to have die every second or third day if I use more often than normal...
Any suggestions or may tests I could do? I feel like I could stream music on Slacker for about 90 Minutes and the battery would be dead...
EDIT: Just did Battlog for about 15 Minutes, my phone uses between 15ma and 31ma when in standby. So where do I start, how do I find the culprit?
I love huge screen HTC devices and Im a power user, so my solutions for power issues are:
Callpod Fueltank Duo
http://palmtops.about.com/od/accessoriesperipherials/fr/Callpod-Fueltank-Duo-Review.htm
Mugen Extended-size High-capacity 2600mAh Battery for HTC HD2
http://www.mugenpowerbatteries.com/
There is a 15% discount right now, better hurry.
Extra chargers and thats it! Now I browse, calls, emails, music, videos, TV stream (Slingplayer) and maximize all of the other features of my HD2 t9193.
Software and the end-user are the cause behind battery drain. I've got 2.5days out of moderate use so I don't think it's the hardware at all.
Methods for testing battery consumption and proof it is typically software related
Hi,
At the risk of looking like I'm trying to hijack this thread, I started a discussion on this particular subject a while ago as feedback on my finding after reading almost all the threads I could find regarding battery use on the HD2. Lude219 is 100% correct, the issue is always software related (yea, I know there might be exceptions to the rule) and my phone was a prime example of that.
See the thread below that explains how to measure your battery consumption, has logs and screen shots from users you have high consumption and also people who have systems where battery life is more than 48 hours so that you can compare your results.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718173
Regards
I'm also sure it's software related. My phone would use app. 2% overnight with all connections closed. This i tested over months. Then suddenly without me changing anything drastic software wise, it pulled 5% per 3-4 hours. So after going thru all the cleaning routines nothing helped exept a good "ram cleaning" . Somehow or other the phone starts processes over time wich consume alot of power. One would have to look into it with a process manager to find out what exactly it is. WinMo seems to be quite sofisticated looking at all the running processes. So my view is , keeping the system tidy might be the only way to save the extra power. This is where the huge diffrence to other platforms seems to be, it can take quite a while until you have configured your phone the way you need it. I am useing the stock rom 1.66 German
thanks you guys for participating and sharing your thoughts.
But now, here is a thinker:
Last night, I let my battery drain all the way to zero and then recharged it at night. The only other thing I did was installing BSBTweaks and Touch X Taskmanager. I also changed my Bandswitch Settings to turn off data when not used and put it at 60 sec (instead of 500 sec before).
And I couldnt believe what I was seeing, I took my phone off the charger this morning around 8.30am and now at 7pm I am still at 84%!!! I did not use the phone heavily but sent and received a few texts, made 1 call and played around with it for a little bit. Similiarly to what I did in the beginning after I got the phone, but then the battery had almost died at 7pm!
I am super happy and hope it stays like that but cannot explain why all the sudden it is that different...
Hi everyone,
This is a very usefull thread, for me it is, thanks to everybody that answered.
regrding the last post, a noobish quesition is
”Bandswitch Settings to turn off data when not used and put it at 60 sec (instead of 500 sec before): how do i do this?”
I remember stumbling upon this setting the day i got the phone and started viciously going through it.
Somehow it didnt store in my memory the path i went that day so i can try doing what the man sugested.
So if anyone can lay a hand, much obliged.
Regards
i lost 12 pct over night in 9 hours with my radio turned off last night and only gmail and texts were open...
with battlog how do i do the test so it stays in standby? it keeps turning the screen on and off when i run benchmark
You may want to flash a new radio. Try a new one each day and measure battery life. I use radio 2.12.50 and have had a good experience.
yeah but with my radio turned off the radio shouldnt affect it shoudl it?
i use blackberry to stream pandora radio thru aux for about 8 hours a day and it still has 2 bars left after that.
HD2 just sits there and kills the battery lol
what kind of phone is that when you have to disable all its functions every time you dont use it?
seriously this is called unfinished product or poor design, that is beeing sold to customers as a next best thing.
you guys can argue with me all you want. i heard many excuses from users advocating the companies. such as. if you dont like this than pay more for a better product. well HD2 is a better product, its a 500 dollar phone damn it.
but you dont realize that even the "better" products suffer from same underdevelopment syndrome.
companies spend millions on consumer research and consumers spend millions on **** they dont need every year. cows eat grass, consumers eat garbage made by big companies.
where are the better products? they dont exist because it became "normal" to have a faulty OS or for your phone buttons to fall off, or battery to explode.
companies worked long and hard to make consumers get used to the idea that garbage is just a part of life, and worked long and hard to minimize costs of production, and cut corners.
which corners?
the final QA testing that is not beeing done by a company, so they can release the phone 3 months earlier, the consumers pay for the phone and test it.
we work for the company and we pay for it instead of getting paid.
the phone breaks oh how sad ,
company takes note(dont use this cheap glue or the buttons fall off, get a lil more expensive glue next year)
so they use better glue and cut another corner and we buy another "new and improved phone" and this time screen goes dim oh dang not again...and it continues.
do you disconnect your car battery every night so it doesnt die? or when you buy a lexus do you drive with your AC off because it cant pull the car around when ac is on same time as the stereo?

Picture of SMS, new battery, call quality?

Hey guys
I might be buying an Atrix tomorrow and I was just wondering if anyone could post a picture of the threaded-SMS that's on the Atrix...
I'm also wondering what I'm suppose to do with this battery? I heard there is like a procedure to getting it to charge to its full potential when you first get it. Like drain the battery completely, charge all the way up, and then never let the battery go under 20% in daily use?
And lastly, how is the call quality on this phone? I've seen a lot of reviews and have been researching this phone for a couple weeks now and I have seen tons of mixed reviews about it...some people say it's horrible some people say it's crystal clear.
I might have some more questions when I think of them.
Thanks,
Elliott
I've never even seen the stock sms because I've always used "go sms" so I can't comment on it.
With the battery there is no need to discharge it a ton on the first day, I just recommend charging it full before you use it. Modern lithium batteries don't have a memory. As you break in the battery over a week you'll get better and better battery life.
I've found the call quality to be superb. On my captivate people sounded hallow, where as the atrix sounds really full.
These are just my .02 hope you enjoy your phone, I sure do.

I think the phone sounds great. My father has it and I talk to him everyday. I can't even tell when he has me on speaker, it's clear crisp and I can even hear tge conversations behind him. My father bought tge phone for me because I did not want to use my upgrade. He lives a few states away and I haven't gone to visit and trade him phones but he loves it and let me tell you this is his first cell phone.
Android has a text file that monitors battery performance and will adjust your percent remaining based on the file. This is the only reason you need to fully discharge the phone, or you will wonder why the damn thing only lasts a few hours. Some custom bootloaders allow you to delete this file to start fresh, but it seems on this one they only way to do so is a factory reset.
The default chat application is a bit of a snore, the standard chat bubbles seen on iPhone. Coming from a Sense device with a nice threaded sms app, I was let down.
Call quality is stellar, even in poor signal areas. The noise cancelling is adjustable quite easily, and at standard settings is powerful enough to completely block out my cat meowing loudly at my feet (the caller was unable to hear him, I asked)

I don't understand how a text file that monitors the battery would effect how long the battery actually lasts. It would just be "off" until it gauges it right, other than that your battery should last just as long regardless.

It means that the phone will be reporting you have 5% battery left when you probably have 20+% left, so people will plug it in rather than let it discharge. Thus why you let it discharge so that it tracks battery performance correctly.
Cool good to know.
I tried out the phone today along with the Galaxy S and I have to say the first thing I noticed is that the icons on the Atrix seem very small...probably because of the higher resolution but damn, I'm only 18 and have pretty good vision and they weren't hard to see but still not easy.
I also found the virtual keyboard to be total garbage...maybe it was just the promo device that was on display but it seemed like the buttons on the sides of the device were basically unresponsive to my touches and so was the settings key on the bottom left of the phone.
Using the Navigator app it crashed twice while loading and had to be force closed...no idea why. Anyone else have this problem?
Also while using the phone (it was plugged in the whole time obviously), it got quite hot...is this normal of having it plugged in charging or is it just normal function? It got DAM hot!
Other than that I didn't really do much else on it to be honest.
Bell is going to release the HTC Incredible S on their network supposedly April 4th so what I am thinking is buying the Atrix on maybe Tuesday, which gives me 14 days to return it, which will bring me to about April 12th, which should give me plenty of time to try out the HTC at the store to see if I want to return the Atrix. What do you guys think?

i think he is referring to batterystats.bin file. not sure about the atrix but my captivate used to forget where 0% and 100% charge was and needed to be calibrated. havent needed to do that with the atrix though.
Bump. Can anyone else add anything? Check out my post above (#8)

App market

Hi guys i found app juice defender is that good for increase battery life? Im using cyanogen. Mod 7 dunno if look ok with this app any suggestion?
Sent from my SAMSUNG S II SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
the juice defender debate goes on. some people report good battery life while others dont. I personally dont think its worth it but you can give it a try. maybe you will like it.
In many cases, battery savers use more battery than they save.
All this app does is turn off the data/cellular network when in lock mode. So when you wake your phone, you get your data back. Some people report missed calls and/or texts because of this. For someone like me who looks at the phone constantly, it would probably drain the battery more because of the on and off of the data/cellular network. It also annoys me that when I'm ready to check an email or something, the data is not readily available because of this feature.
when i was testing JD, i was constantly missing emails, texts and gtalk messages because my data was turned off. I didnt think it was worth it.

Yep I had this happen, and there was a delay because of it so it was very annoying.. I noticed way more battery life from a custom kernel than I ever did with juice defender.right now using entropy kernel with serendipity rom, gave me a good couple hours extra battery with normal usage.

[Q] Battery Help in a particular application !!!!!

I have been all over the web in search of something that will extend my battery life in one particular application. So far I am empty handed. I have contacted the application support staff and they say it is not their issue.
I use GolfLogix on the golf course. Up until a couple of weeks ago I had no issues. I could get thru the round and still have plenty of battery left to carry me into the evening.
Then one day without anything changing to my knowledge the phone began to run out of battery half way thru a round, somewhere around the 2-1/4 hr mark.
At that time I was running Ginger Bread on a Droid Razr.
They had me uninstall the app and reinstall the latest version. That did nothing.
Since then I have upgraded to ICS and that has helped a bit. The phone dies at about the 3-1/4 hr mark.
I might add that I am also running Juice Defender Ultimate.
I always start with an overnight charge and 100% battery.
It would appear that something in the app has changed even thou they say not or items in the background are sucking up power.
I have installed Better Battery Stats in hopes that would shed some light but I am not understanding what I am seeing there. Besides once the phone dies their is nothing there after recharging.
Can anyone offer any help or suggestions?
Thanks in advance
:crying::crying::crying:
Well from my experience Juice Defender causes more problems then good. Better Battery Stats will shed some light on what might be waking up your phone but what you might also want to check is to see if some application is sending/receiving large amounts of data, this will pretty much kill your battery because of how much of a battery drainer 4G really is. So just go to your settings and click Data Usage just to check if there is an application like that. I've been hearing about problems like that with the new gallery and such.

Thanks for your reply. I have done as you suggested and turned Juice Defender off. In addition I was able to fore the phone to 3G. That has always been sufficient for me in the past. If you have any other thoughts pls post them. I will come back to you after my next round of golf with the results.
