I configured my phone with Gmail out of the box, it functioned perfect for a few weeks, and now for some reason it will check and download my email, but will error when trying to send any emails.
Any idea why this could be?
Yah, that's happened to me too, I just deleted that gmail account, made another one that checks the same account, and it worked again...kinda annoying, but it's a 2 min process.

I have seen so many repoorts of this over at PPCG and from firends of mine with the TP.
Maybe a GMAIL issue? Not sure but your not alone.
i've tried remaking the account on the phone to no avail. good to know at least I'm not alone!
I started seeing this problem with IMAP servers on WM 6.1, have compiled some info on it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374663
I haven't had to recreate any mail accounts after applying the MS WM 6.1 patch linked in that thread. A soft reset is all that's been needed since.
I've got my fingers crossed for WM 6.5 to be a real fix. I'd like to give that 5.2.21014 a try too if it ever comes around again...
go to mail2web.com create a free account (Exchange Support)
go to Gmail settings forward ur gmail incoming mail to [email protected]
now setup push e-mail on ur phone through active sync
ull get the e-mail within 5 seconds of it being received, and u'll save some battery juice cuz ur phone is not checking for new e-mails every now and then.
IMHO it works flawlessly, i have my hotmail and gmail going through push, as u can forward as many e-mail accounts as u want
MOE
As it turns out a second soft reset and delete>remake the account on the phone got my email working again.
This has been happening for as long as I can remember on various ROMs and versions.
Once I add my Hotmail account, when I go to settings -> incoming and select to delete messages from the server when I delete from the phone, the app FCs.
Anyone else notice this/know what's going on?
I don't use Hotmail but every now and again someone sends to the account and it ends up getting ignored. Would be nice to be notified but not a big deal at all!
Not the answer to your problem, but this is what I do.
I just go to www.hotmail.com in the browser. Keep yourself logged in, and when you're logged in, add that page to your bookmarks. That way you can access it fast by opening your browser and the mobile hotmail page looks better than the email app I think.
Ofcourse, you won't get notified when you get new mail.
Thanks for the suggestion - but not really what I'm after.
I would literally get 1 message every 4 or 5 months and it's usually one I'd like to have known about 3 months before remembering to check hotmail.
More than anything it'd be good to know if this happens for everyone else or just me
Have you set up Hotmail as POP3?

Has anyone experienced this before?
My phone goes through phases of reloading old, read mail. It notifies to say there's new mail but its not normally visible, so I scroll down and find that some mail that has been read but not deleted has now been highlighted, as if it hasn't been read.
I have the settings for this account set to keep the past 7 days of mail and is set to Push email during the day, and its set up via the Social Hub. Sometimes after reading a deleting a message the phone immediately alerts me that there is New mail, only to find it has reloaded old mail as new! Its as if it feels the need to replace any spaces in the 7 days of mail. This only happens with Hotmail, not Gmail.
I've tried deleting and reloading the Hotmail account but it doesn't change things, I even did a complete wipe of the phone the last time it started doing this but it didn't help. Eventually it stopped doing it by itself. Unfortunately, its started to do it again.
Its an non branded, UK spec phone, running standard 2.3.4
I noticed sometimes my hotmail account would not push emails to me and would sometimes take a couple of hours. I am using the latest official hotmail app.
I decided to test it against my gmail account (to make sure it wasn't an Amaze issue) so i sent 8 test emails from my Outlook work email and sent the same email to both hotmail & gmail accounts.
The results..
---------Gmail----hotmail.
Test 1... 1m57s... 1hr7m+ (gave up waiting and manually synced)
Test 2... 0m51s... 1m50s
Test 3... 0m16s... 1m35s
Test 4... 0m37s... 1hr3m+ (gave up waiting and manually synced)
Test 5... 0m20s... 1m12s
Test 6... 0m14s... 1m47s
Test 7... 0m14s... 1m11s
Test 8... 0m12s... 14m35s
I'm going to swap to my new gmail account but can't find anyway of stopping emails downloading in the middle of the night and waking me. Am i missing a sync setting or do i need to use a profile app to turn the volume down at night?

My experience using the hotmail app=don't use the hotmail app. It seems to suck more battery trying to sync than gmail ever has, syncs far less often, but I think it has to do with the settings(pop) you setup on hotmail. If you forward your mail it only takes about 1 minute for hotmail to send it to gmail, far better than the sync in hotmail ever did.
I forwarded all my hotmail to my gmail which has a better spam filter, uninstalled the hotmail app, and setup a sound profile that automatically lowers the volume after XXpm. You could also set it up to turn your volume up in the morning, but create a shortcut to a volume profile that turns down notification volume..
Edit: I use audio manager, and I think the free version does time profiles, but it seemed like such a solid app with good updates, I bought the app a long time ago.
Hi,
I have a Hotmail account and wandering if there's any way to get my other folders to sync same as inbox? On the stock email app for my Mate 10 pro I can't even add the folders and Gmail lets me add them but can't get them to sync like inbox (have to manually refresh).
Sounds minor but bugs the hell out of me, there must be a way without using a 3rd party app?
Cheers in advance.
Use the Outlook app from the Playstore. It really uses push notifications and not "check every 30 minutes" or something like that.
Hi,
I have 3 hotmails accounts synchronized on the stock app of my mate 10 pro with multiple folders.
You can select the folders you want to synchronize in the stock app (sorry, my phone is set in French): go to the three dots at the bottom of the app - parameters - select your Hotmail account - folders synchronization
Here you can select by folders how you want to sync them.
Hope this helps
PS : automatic push (real time notification) is working without any issue on the stock app.
Hi @freedamdam, thanks for your reply.
I don't have that option, do you definitely use stock email app? I have the normal folder screen on left showing inbox, sent, drafts, recycle bin, etc best t not my personally created folders? The 3 dots takes me into settings but nothing in there re folders.
Also, when you set up your Hotmail did you select Hotmail or use Microsoft exchange or other? Not sure if makes difference? Just don't understand why you can't view your folders!
Thanks
Wayne
Yes, I'm using stock app, no root or whatsoever, as I was also on my P9 with the exact same options for hotmail folders.
But I think you got it,m right, you have to setup your accounts as Microsoft exchange, not Hotmail, so as to get real time push and folders options I believe.
Let us know if this works.

OK thanks again for reply
Tried adding exchange account in settings but keep getting couldn't connect to server? Tried googling settings for exchange and tried couple but still get same error message.
I'm missing/not doing something obvious here can't for life of me see what!

Thnx for the tip. Added the account as an Exchange and there is the push option.
Any tips on how to set up as exchange? Mine either gets stuck "connecting to server" or "couldn't connect to server", tried using my email as domain, imap-mail.outlook.com as server and 993 as port but can't set it up.
Cheers

Hey,
I don't remember exactly how I did but as far as I can recall, it was rather simple. But in the parameters, here is what I can see :
Server : m.hotmail.com
Port : 443
SSL/TLS
certificate : none
Hope this helps,
Dam
