HTCSipSrvc - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how do you get rid of the service HTCSipSrvc? If you set it to manual, the whole sip menu is disabled. How do you get the normal sip menu back w/o the HTC sips?

Tweaks & Tips

I will be compiling a list of tips and tricks as I'm getting used to my S740 that will hopefully help others ramp up more quickly.
Desired Result: I'd like to have my phone lock when the screen goes dark so I don't accidentally call someone from my pocket
Suggestion: assuming you've already tweaked your power settings to turn off display per your preferences, go to Settings, More, More, Key Lock. Select "Lock Device When Idle" and check "Unlock Device When Keypad is Opened"
Result: this ensures I don't call someone accidentally (power timeout for screen is set to 10 seconds, lock device when idle locks device when screen goes off) but still allows me to grab the phone from my pocket, open it, and txt someone without having to enter my pin.
Quickly Toggle Bluetooth On/Off
(an old favourite)
Desired Result: a quick way to toggle bluetooth on and off
Suggestion: install Bluetooth Toggler from this thread; map a SpeedDial button to it by going to the app (might be under Accessories), clicking Menu, Add to Speed Dial
Result: holding down that Speed Dial number = BT toggles
Here are some in which i have used and compiled :
CHomeConfig - Configure your Sliding Pane
clockontop - Display digital clock on top bar and make avalible on all screens (except home)
Dr.Gonzo Clear Fonts - Installs clear fonts (beautiful)
HTC_Touch_Dualt9_problem_patch - Disables XT9
mixtapeking1900-turn-sms-sent-notification-off - Disable "Message Sent" notice from SMS
moBluev2_1_setup - Receive bluetooth files to Storage Card
SMSBubbles - Display new SMS message on home screen.
Additionally, i wanted to check with you guys. I notice that on my default HTC Sliding Panels, the photos plugin is missing ! I have seen it on preview videos, but somehow it's not on my unit. Is it avalible on yours ?
Here are some more
spreset - soft reset
QuadSMS - Automatically resolve phone numbers to contact for SMS and Delivery Report
VGA MusicID - Music ID

I have it in my 740 rom on my shadow. are you also missing the reg entries for the pictures homescreen plugin ?
I doubt they removed it from the cpr. check the home.xml to see if they just removed it from there.
Guys remember chomeconfig will not save your configs after reboot.
so any homescreen order will be reset to default after reboot. at least on my 740 rom it doesnt save because the HTC home.xml is diffrent then normal 6.1 home.xmls
can anyone realize a direct link to "write new sms" on the home page?!?
thank you in advance!
Luca
ShadowMike,
Thanks for your info. I used CHomeConfig to check and looks like the CMyPhotos there, but disabled by default on HTC Home . Wonder why they did that.
Viskas,
If you change the default home screen from HTC Home to Windows Sliding Panel, the SMS/Messages plugin allows you to create new sms from the home screen.
However, i believe you should also consider the faster way to write a new SMS from the home screen, which is to just start typing the contacts NAME from the home screen, and select send SMS using the softkey. I think this is the best and fastest way to do it.

To disable the HTC/TouchlessFlo/whatever black ugly volume bar, delete following registry key. The default system volume bar will appear next time you restart the device.
Code:
HKCU\Software\HTC\Bootlauncher\Services\HTCVOLUME

Anyone know of a way to add a picture dialer (like in touchflow 2/3D) to the homescreen, possibly via CHome Config? I really can't get used to only having the keyboard quickdials as an option.

I'm really annoyed 'cause I can't find a way to make it show me only the contacts stored on the phone. Any ideas?

ugly "beep" sound at call start
Hi,
I am trying to get rid of the "beep" sound that you hear when you press the green receiver to start a telephone call. In S710 one should exchange the file callstart.wav. In Windows Mobile 6, I cannot find this file. Anyone knows what to do ?
Thanks.

For people that want to have control on what is tweaked to allow them to easily revert back. You only have to add the following key to your registry for defaulting to abc mode instead of the annoying XT9 (see CM_ENT~1.001 in HTC_Touch_Dual_t9_problem_patch.CAB):
Key Name:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\IME
Value Name:
CarrierDefaultTextMode

Turn data connection on and off via program icon

I have down loaded and am using two great cab files that I am now using on my Sprint TP. One is BT on/off, and the other is WIFI on/off. In particular I have mapped BT on/off to a soft key on my TF3d home screen (easier than having to take 3 steps to access comm manager) Quickly turn BT on and off (toggle).
Does any on know if there are any cabs out there that create a program icon to turn on, and turn off the Sprint data connection (toggle it on and off, like the sliding comm manager feature?
I would map it to another softkey on my TF3d home location. I am already aware of being able to terminate the data connection via the long press option quick list.
I like to turn off the connection, fairly quick after I use it to conserve battery.
Bump. Any one know how to do this?
as far as the last line in your post...
if you have advanced config 3.3
go to
menu > more settings > connections >
there you will see an option to automatically turn off your data connection after a specific time... from a few seconds to hours...
ive set it to 1 min... seems to be workin.
Thanks, I already did that. It works, I just like to have the ability to do it manually one click.

[Q]SMS Keyboard Enter To Send Message

I have come into an odd situation being that I am coming from a blackberry and I am VERY use to being able to hit the Enter key in order to send a text message. The place where an Enter key would intuitively be, is replaced with a "Smiley Button". Is there any way to replace the Smiley button with an Enter key and then be able to hit Enter to send SMS messages?
I have looked into it before this question and come up with use the Handcent app, but I would rather use the stock SMS application or a variation of a keyboard download in order to get Enter to send SMS to work.
Thanks.
HTC IME
Look for HTC IME on google, it is the keyboard from htc phones, it's beautiful, you can modify many things, anddd you can use enter to send, you have to enable it under the keyboard settings. But.... you don't get the nify spell check that only comes with the moto keyboard.
From what I have found the HTC IME doesn't work on the Atrix sadly. Well at least for me....
But when I had it on my Galaxy S it was awesome!

[PLEASE STICKY] Droid Incredible 4G LTE Tips and Tricks

There are some interesting tips and tricks for this phone, and some observations I've made. This is definitely not a complete list, I just wanted to put some things that keep popping up in various threads into one central place.
TIPS:
Buy a screen protector and case! You will significantly increase the longevity of your phone.
When you're not using it, turn off Wi-Fi, 4G, and GPS. It will improve your battery life significantly.
If using the stock messaging app, you can improve load time and performance by limiting the number of messages saved in Messages -> Settings -> General -> Delete old messages.
Under Settings -> Developer options, there are several options which can improve performance on your phone, such as reducing transition time, enabling GPU rendering, and destroying background activities.
For those of you who came from Sense 1.0, you can now backup and restore your dictionary and messages to the SD card.
Messages: Messages -> 3 Dot -> Back up SMS
Dictionary: Settings -> Language and keyboard -> HTC Sense Input -> Personal dictionary -> Sync personal dictionary
TRICKS:
Disable bloatware while on stock: To disable any apps which you are forced to have on your phone but you don't use, go to Settings -> Apps, and go to each app you don't want, uninstall updates if it has any, then click Disable.
Safe mode: Restart your phone, hold volume down starting from when the screen first goes dark until the OS is loaded. If done successfully, you will see the words 'Safe mode' in the bottom of your screen.
EPST: Dial ##778 on your phone and edit developer options and programming codes. You can seriously screw up your phone if you don't know what you're doing, so proceed with caution.
Change number of home screens: Touch your home button twice. A display of all your home screens at the same time will appear.
To remove screens, long-press any screens you no longer want (you have to leave your primary screen with the small picture of the house on it), and drag it to the top to 'Remove'.
To add more panels when you have less than 7, which is the maximum, touch 'Add Panel' at the top. You can rearrange these to any order you wish.
HBOOT: To access HBOOT, turn off Fast boot in Settings -> Power, hold your power button, hit 'Restart', and when the capacitive buttons at the bottom turn off, hold the Volume Down button until it loads HBOOT.
Quickly change all sounds: You can quickly change all ringtones, notifications, and alarms by going to Settings -> Personalize -> Sound tab at the bottom.
Global phone: To enable Global phone mode, go to Settings -> Call, and change Preferred Network to Global.
OBSERVATIONS:
As with every phone model, every individual unit is not created equal. You will encounter a problem with your phone, most likely one easily rectified once we get root. You might have slow Wi-Fi, an imperfectly-fitting case, or any number of things. If it's a hardware issue, you will likely discover it before your 14 day exchange period is up. Don't be afraid to exchange it! If it's software-related, wait for root and we'll see what can be done.
Some things that were handled by the OS in previous iterations has to be done manually now, such as automatically deleting blank pictures from the Gallery app that were deleted with a file explorer or on the computer. It can be a nuisance, but without root, we can't change anything right now.
Suggestions to this list are welcome. Some things some of us take for granted are great additions to this list for the uninitiated.

There are multiple ways. I prefer adding the one-click Widget to my farthest right home screen (I reduced mine down to 3 screens, which I'm going to add to the main post how to do), accessed by long-pressing an empty location on a home screen, Widgets tab -> Settings (HTC) -> Mobile Network. You can also access the on/off switch via the pull-down tab (or via the app drawer) -> Settings -> Mobile Network on/off.
If you want to only turn off 4G and leave 3G on, you can download 4G Toggle and change the setting to 'CDMA only'. This still saves battery while allowing you access to the mobile network at slower speeds.
I updated the list again. How did these two posts get to page 4? Ridiculous.

Option to enable/disable "Mobile Data Traffic" missing

Hi, I'm a noob when it comes to smart phone setup, but saw the success of people here getting setup on t mobile with the Sonys Z5's so thought I'd give it a try (got an Z5c E5823 from HK).
Anyway, setup went smoothly, except for some reason under settings/wireless & networks/more/mobile networks/ I don't have the option to enable/disable mobile network traffic. It isn't that the row is grayed out, it isn't there at all. There are only four choices in this menu (Data Roaming, Preferred Network Type, Access Point Names, and Service Providers).
Anyone know how to get this selection available? Or, is it in a different place maybe?
Thanks!
Try Settings/"Data usage", it shall be in first row.
Wow, thanks! We are now rocking on t-mobile. No idea why I was so hung up on it being in the other menu.
You can add it to the quick settings buttons (pull down buttons)
When the buttons are shown there is a little (looks like a pencil, with some dots under it), this is the editor for the quick settings panel.
Just drag the Mobile Data button down.
