automatic turn speaker on, on calls - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello
i got a problem with my hd2, when i call somebody or they call me the phone turns on speaker immediately. i have tried to install new rom and radio nothing helps.
i don't now if its have somthing to do with, the last couple of times i have installed new rom and the first time i turn it on it open navipal automatic almost like it think it is in car kit mode

I have the same issue. Still no fix. What i think is the pgone thinks it´s plugged in to the AC.
try this. When unplugged play with the dim sliders for the backlight. if it changes with the "on ac power" slide, then we have the same issue.
The only temporary solution for me is plugging back the AC and unplugging a few times until it comes back to normal.... for a while.

just happened to me today,, started when i unplugged earphones whilst dialing out.
fm radio was playing, i hit send, selected number, dial, unplugged phones, canceled fm radio no aerial error, person answered and speaker came on.
been like it ever since, and yes, the external power brightness slider changes brightness even though nothing is plugged in.
soft reset doesn't help, gonna play with the power and if not hard reset.
update - home button now stopped working, hard reset, stock flash, nothing helps. Oh wellm back to o2 tomorrow.

this is because some error in the proximity sensor ! first see that u r not wearing on the head ..if u r wearing then the sensor detects it as a solid part and not skin thats why the phone vibrates and automatically turns into the speakerphone mode ! ...try readjusting the phone when it is near your ears ..maybe it will solve the problem ! cheers

no, its not that, there are a raft of other problems, such as when hard resetting, all the setup screens are in landscape so impossible to hit 'next', , ,the PC wont recognise it, but it will charge, when you pre4ss 'send' to open phone screen it auto jumps to landscape, opera auto jumps to landscape, the backlight sliders think the phone is on external power... and on and on.
Thanks for responding tho!

have u tried a task29 format and then installing any good custom rom ?

i task 29 around 5 times a week, usually every 5 or so flashes.
besides, i know its not that, i did extensive testing last night (much to the gf's disgust), flashed several roms, task29 (well, mtty, i dont use task29), stock roms, all kinds of things.
Wiggling the usb connector twice fixed it for around 5 minutes. Its deffinately hardware.
Anyway, it went back to O2 today, so im stuck using my htc elf for the next few weeks, , , and HOW small is teh screen?????

You can wipe the phone all you want It wont fix it.
It's more than likely a short between the pins (I forget which pin) but the navi program auto launches when a pin in the usb gets grounded. The phone will also act as navigation mode so it auto speakerphones it.
The navi software also disables data connections as it should only be charging and no data should be passing thru it. Even if you disabled the navi program, the phone still thinks its in car mode.
Boot loader still works normally for data. If you are in windows/normal have fun holding the cable at the right angle to "un-short it"
I firmly believe its the micro usb connector on the hd2.
I hated the micro usb connector design as it looks so flimsy to break/corrode.
I just got my replacement phone today (been back ordered 1.5 weeks)

that was exactly my exact same problem. It just started last night and I also hard reset the phone but no fix. I thought it was in some sort of short circuit because of the strange behavior.
Anyways I found this thread and yanked the micro USB cable and it's working back to normal so far. Hope it stays that way cause I can't afford sending it back for repair. I bought it from amazon
HTC phones have always been kind of "delicate" ... this is my 4th HTC phone. 2 different ones died with so little. Not like the motorola phones those are really troopers.

i have same issue here, my speaker is always turning on and well, i`m not happy with it, also when i flashed my HD with some new ROMs, in first boot it started navipanel, also usb connection is not working well, so i guess its this issue ... will be good to know where problem is or i`ll go to O2 to send phone to repair

some people have had success cleaning out the usb port with a toothbrush.

i have a same problem
can you explain the toothbrush that you success, how did you clean out the usb port

I had the exact same problem. Couldn't test it in android because it wouldn't boot. One night it connected so I took the chance and did a full android installation from NAND. After that it worked like new for almost 3 months. Last saturday it went back to no-working. Haven't figure out what to do yet.

I had the same happen after phone got a bit wet lol, Speaker came on during call and nav panel etc, It went back to HTC and luckily they didn't charge me, All been fine since they replaced main board.

Phone won't boot up

I have a Cingular 3125, working fine for weeks, happened that two days ago, I was charging the phone and transferring files to my computer via Bluetooth, nothing unusual, then it just got frozen, nothing responding, so I just took out the battery to manual reset the device and reinserted it, then tried to turn on the device, but it refuses to boot, no lights at all, also when I attach the phone charger, it doesnt show the usual orange led when charging, but I can feel that the phone gets warmer because the charger is attached and then after a while it gets a bit cooler, just like when it finishes charging, the usual behavior, but again, no lights at all trying to boot it or even attaching the charger, I've tried taking the battery off for hours and nothing also, and I wasnt overclocking the phone... would you say it just died? or maybe someone had same issues and solved it someway? thanks.
try this
OK, I don't remember where I read this, or the exact procedure, but give this a try.
remove the battery, press and hold the red call end key (power key) for 30-45 seconds. insert battery and do a hard reset, IE.. power on holding the 2 top soft keys while powering on the phone.
this method is supposed to clear any mother board issues and reset the phone. It has been a couple of years since I read the procedure so I am not sure if this is the correct way, if it does not work, try the same thing, only try taking the battery out, then put it back in and press and hold the power key for 30 - 45 seconds.
may or may not work, but can't hurt to try.
i had the same problem with startrek which i had bought from eBay
one more advice - try to hold record (notes) and camera buttons and insert an USB cable to your PC, it should enter to Bootloader mode
well, I have dissasembled the whole thing, I havent reached anything, even disconnected the backup battery, nothing, have checked battery with a multimeter and is full loaded... in short, someway the cell phone seems has just died, Erofich, to enter bootloader mode, the phone must turn on, it just doesnt want to start at all, no lights when connecting charger or USB cable... I'm sad because it was working fine with no problems for three months and more sad because it's the end for me to windows cellphones for a long time, I've invested a lot in this phone, accesories, unlocking, and even the same day it died also bought more memory and a neat skin cover and I'm not in mood to invest more in a cell phone so I'll use a spare crappy feature phone.
Thanks for your support.
one last effort
You could try one last thing, this has worked for me with a couple of startreks,
take the phone apart, and take the motherboard out, use a hair dryer to heat the motherboard, don't get crazy with it, but using the hair dryer on the high setting for about 30 to 45 seconds at about 3-5 inches, might revive the phone. (don't heat the battery, just the motherboard)
Put the phone back together while it is still hot (but not so hot that it will burn your fingers) and try to fire it up.
This has worker for me in 3 cases (phones that I bought off eBay that had the same symptoms as you have described)
good luck
big problem!!!!!!!!
I have been struggling to flash (again) the great pro V2 rom, but I always used my VMWare based XP windows version on my Vista laptop. Today I could use a genuine XP Laptop and I could make a connection and start the upgrade!
Sounds good? That's what I thought too, until the upgrade stopped at 70% (and I didn't touch anything), because of a connection error. I followed the text on my PC screen and I finally it started flashing again for a few seconds and then my startrek suddenly restarted, but it stops at the first splash screen! I tried to get my device back to bootloader mode (push 2 soft buttons and start), but no bootloader mode, only the 1st splash.
I solved the problem.

[Q] Xperia X10 won't turn on.

Hi. The phone application was not functioning well and the F/C dialog showed up. I powered off the phone and from that point, the phone won't turn on.
The battery was fully charged before this happened.
When I press the power button, the phone vibrates for half a second, the screen brightens up but does not show anything but a black screen.
I removed SIM and SD cards, removed the battery and performed the above steps but nothing happened.
I also tried to put on the charger to see what's going on. Once I plug the charger, the phone's screen brightens but shows only blank (even without pressing the power button)
When connected to the charger, the green light for charging is on for some minutes, then goes off automatically.
I tried to connect it to the PC, and PC Companion finds the device as usually. It even shows the dialog on the pc screen to mount the device.
I tried a hard reset, but does not work
On some point, the sony logo appeared and then a dialog saying: "sorry process system is not responding". The first time I pressed Force Close and the phone turned off. Immediately after that, the phone turned on and showed the exact message. I pressed "Wait" but nothing happened in the next 15 minutes.
I called Sony's support center and they suggested a software update. Did the process exactly as it should, but again, even after the software update the screen shows nothing but black. It is all the time brightened for some reason.
I tried to turn off the phone for some time by removing the battery, but as soon as I put the battery back on, the phone's screen brightens and stays that way forever.
The phone was functioning perfectly up until this issue. The only application I had installed apart from some games, was AWDLauncher. On the screen I had only a TASK widget and a battery status widget.
The phone is 3 months old and has been always in perfect condition.
ANY help would be appreciated!!!!
Many Thanks
Try to format phone with this method hope it should work as it seems the issue is with OS only ..

I tried the steps found in the link you gave me, but I couldn't go any further after step no (5) from the tutorial, as it would require to enable Debugging mode and I cannot access the OS (since the device won't turn on).
Is there a way to format all the contents of the device and have them replaced by running SEUS (as it always says that my device is up to date now)?
Was it this:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup.../detailed/updateservice/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en
That Sony Ericsson told you to do?
If not, use that.
Download it, follow the steps when it says you have the latest version, press "Install Anyway".
Hope this works.
Hi itTim. thanks for the response
this is what i did but no improvement at all ((
Sounds like you broke your LCD screen somehow.
That would suck because I broke mine and it cost me $200 to fix.
Hi Hypercore.
Yes that could be the problem. The thing is that I always took rally good care of the phone, always carried in a leather pouch and never droped it. How sensitive is this lcd anyway?? Did you notice any cracks on your lcd or was the problem simillar to mine?
Thanks
When you turn on the phone does the lcd backlight turn on?
If so, look for any faint lines of color (usually a hairline size). If you see any of those then your screen is cracked.
the backlight is on, but there are no lines of colour on the lcd screen.
another weird thing is that the green light on the top blinks one or two times every time i put on the battery. even if the phone is off, once I insert the battery turns on automatically after a couple of seconds.
If all else fails you could try to flash back to your original fw with the tools here:

I had almost the same issue. Nothing worked. But, when I removed the battery and left it for a day (24h) without it, it just started working again. Still working without issues..
Good luck!

Phones are very wierd pieces of technology. I once bricked my k610i and that's a phone that's supposed to be impossible to un-brick, but out of nowhere a month or so later i picked it up, hit power and it turned on perfectly. Made no sense at all, but it worked.
Taking the battery out for a long time probably took all the electrical charges from it (kind of like how a computer power supply / monitor can hold power charges) and reset your handset.

Indeed. It could be a frozen chip, memory fault, power-regulator and so on.

if you have done this and did not worked , then it is the LCD.
send it to workshop and check it there.
Guys i Really need the solve of this problem , my xperia has blank screen now without backlight and the phone completely doesn't work . when i put the battery and prees the switch botton it gives me 3 red signals , i've updated and hard reset but it didn't work , and btw the LCD is fine , any idea. did removing the battery worked???? . please answer
After a looooot of time since my latest post, finally my Xperia came back to life. There was a battery failure which means the phone was ok all the time. Weird thing is that the led light showed that the battery was charging ok. I removed the battery and after a lot of time it is working ok again. This was really really odd.
FYI for anyone else that gets this issue.
I just had this for the past hour after trying to change my baseband....could not get it back for anything.
What I did finally try was run another baseband via flash tool, connected to usb and it started flashing....after flash phone powered on again...yeah I agree with everyone, that is freaking scary when it happens.

[Q] Bad charger and Galaxy S2 detects USB connection with nothing connected!

Too bad that last thursday I used the charger from a kit similar to this (link found in the forum 3 months ago).
(h**p://w*w.befr.ebay.be/itm/Dock-Sync-Cradle-USB-Charger-For-Samsung-I9100-Galaxy-S2-II-Plug-/260876977248?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3cbd7ac460), directly (without the cradle)
It was the first time I use the power adapter directly to recharge my phone.
And since thursday my phone detects unexpectedly usb connection (and says I ave to close all aplications to use with Kies etc...).
I suppose it is no coincidence and that this fu***** charger damaged a capacitor or another electronic component of this kind inside my phone!?
What do you think ?
What can I do? Send it using warranty? Disable USB detection (how?)?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
Edit: Now the phone is not recognized when I connect it to computer (usb) or it starts the car mode!!!
A lot of people have this. Try brushing the usb connector on the bottom of your phone using a CLEAN and DRY toothbrush.
I had this problem, this fixed it for me ever since. Also bending the connector a TINY bit to the middle of the hole may help. But watch out, as it's horribly thin.
Two connectors are bent because of your new charger, or dust is causing the problem.
Thanks for this first answer! But...
Three others things (I've cleaned the connector as you said to):
The screen lights up by itself, too! And 9 times out of 5 when I press the power button (in order to lock and switch off screen) the phone just freeze and the only way to get it back again is to remove/replace battery!
By the way the battery drains faster than usual!
Do you still think it's only a matter of dust/connector (just asking but strange coincidence...)!?
Hello I have exactly the same problem since 2 days first it started thinking its connected to the USB, second thing is it wakes up soon after you have put it down and if you press the power button it freezes I have tried it more than 50 times and it freezes every time (when its connected to the charger only froze once) and today when i try to connect it to the USB nothing happens.I have tried Hard Reset , restore to a stable setup with CWM but it wont help. This happened when I got home after I was 2 hours outside working and it was very cold and moist but I only had the phone outside my pocket for 1 - 2 minutes to make a call and some very tiny drops got on the screen.I regret taking it with me if I only knew that was going to happen. One other thing I had an App to track the battery state and now when the phone thinks its connected yo USB but its not the program says my battery is over voltaged. What happened with your phone . Can someone help

[Q] Evo 3D won't charge, only buttons light up - dead?

Hi there, XDA folks!
Mario here with some phone problems..
I have a CDMA Evo 3D running on the stock ROM.
The phone's charging cable was shorting out ever since I bought it (got it 2nd hand). I had to wiggle it in order to get the phone charging.
I gave it to my girlfriend to use it for taking pictures n whatnot while outside of town. She returned it kinda Rambo-ish; the front of the phone basically fell apart.. the front metal grill surrounding it, at least.
Phone worked fine, except for the cable shorting out even more. My laptop shut down every time that happened, so I'm quite sure that's not what caused the problem I'll be explaining later on in this thread.
So let's get to the point, shall we?
My phone was really low on battery, something within the range of 2-5%. I tried charging it, but the wires shorted out again and the laptop died on me.. again, and again, and again..
I couldn't really bother with fiddling around with it until it starts, so I just unplugged it and left it that way.
The phone sat for a few days, my (main) laptop broke, so I decided to give the good ol' Facebook Messenger a go.. sadly, the phone would not turn on or start charging.
I removed the shrink-like wrap around the wires of the USB cable, cut the bad parts and twisted the color-matching wires in order. Sadly, the phone would still not charge.
I tried with another (self-made) USB cable... no luck whatsoever. Just to clarify; the blue wire on the one the phone comes with is ground, right? If not that could of caused the problem, since I connected the blue wire on the mini-usb to the black one on a standard USB plug.
I tried juicing the phone up a tad bit by running 5V on the battery for 15 minutes or so.. didn't really bother going for more, since it's kinda hard to keep 2 wires pressed against the battery for more than that. The phone powered up, but the display did not. There was the low battery sound, volume keys were functional, vibrating feedback was okay.. hell, the phone even took a screenshot when I pressed power button + volume down!
Sadly, that didn't solve anything.. even turned on, it would not charge. The 15-minute charge is good for a minute of red blinking light and fancy glowing buttons, nothing more.
Is the phone dead, or should I give it a hour charge directly and see how that goes?
Thanks in advance to everyone who replies!
i think it'll be good if you buy a universal battery charger for phone. so you can charge your battery without plugged to the phone

I am looking for more opinions before I spend cash I don't have on chargers that may not work.
If you or someone else is positive about the display not working because of not enough battery juice, then I'll manually charge the battery for an hour, even though it's uncomfortable as hell to hold 2 wires on the pins for that long.
What's bugging me is that it's not charging once it has just enough juice to power up everything, no display either. I'd like to know if it's doing that, because the battery is too dead to actually start charging up via the phone and whether the display just doesn't work or there's not enough juice for it.
Edit; I bought a chinese charger that charges the battery directly (2pins). The display still does not work and the phone will still not charge via the cable. Could it be a bad cable (and a dead display..)? It seems like the phone itself is responsive - I unlock it, press the "search" button and when I type on the keyboard (that I don't see), it vibrates with every pressed key.
Also, I can hear it taking a screenshot and the volume down/up buttons seem to be working fine.

this is exactly what's been going on with my phone as of a few days ago.
checked the time while it was plugged in, unplugged it...screen froze.
hasn't turned back on since.
the buttons on bottom light up, though.
i can take calls, use my unlock pattern (it takes me a few tries now that i can't see anything) and press the search key for google now.
for all intents and purposes...phone's fully functional...except i can't see anything going on.
i brought my phone into a sprint corp store, they changed the top housing for me screen and all for free.
it was really nice.
but, that didn't change anything.
screen still doesn't change anything.
they said the board probably shorted on screen lead.
have you figured anything out?

Nope, I'm still in the same situation.
Does yours charge?
My phone isn't recognized by my laptop at all, so I'm guessing something is indeed fried. I don't have the appropriate screwdrivers to open it up and inspect the board, otherwise I'd open it up and check it out.
If you have Torx T5 & T3 screwdrivers you should give it a go - post some decent-res pics over here and I'll at least visually inspect it.
I genuinely don't feel like spending more money for tools n whatnot for a phone that may be permanently dead.. planning on getting a second-hand S4 anyways. Waiting on a student loan and smashing this phone to pieces as soon as I get the cash for a new one. Can try and help out for yours if you manage to open it, though. Could be something as simple as a dead resistor that shouldn't be too hard to replace.
I tried the hillbilly method and hit my phone a few times against a wooden bench, that didn't seem to fix it. Pretty positive something's fried, but I'm also guessing it isn't a viable component, having in mind the phone functions normally, even though the display & usb port don't work.. hell, my phone woke me up at 3AM today, 'cause the alarm went off, lol!

Dual screen suddenly stopped working and battery drain

It just stopped turning on and everytime I tried, I got a toast that said to try again after reattaching the dual screen. This only temporarily fixed it and after a few times of reattaching it the phone doesn't even recognize the case anymore.
The magnetic charging still works.
Anybody encounter this or know how to fix?
Something else. I've had massive battery drain since my dual screen stopped working. At a rate of 6-7% an hour without usage. I have to recharge it twice a day once in the morning and once at night to keep it from dying on me (again without even using the phone). The battery usage only shows system as using battery.
Things I've tried.
1. Rebooting
2. Factory reset (retore with drive)
3. Factory reset (setting up from scratch)
4. Deleting LG message and installing textra. Deleting LG contacts and installing google contacts. Installing and using Google phone as default over LG.
None of these has worked. I'm wondering if it was due to the latest T-mobile update which i took a couple of weeks ago and only noticed it later.
Anybody on T-mobile having battery problem? Any suggestions?
I've had this too. Only thing I haven't tried is a hard reset (vol down + power button) but not sure if will work or not. It's annoying.
Have tried a a hard reset and it‘s still happening. I think mine is a loose connection somewhere. It will stay on and play a movie all the way through if it’s left on the table but if I’m holding the phone while using it it will turn off. No idea if it’s fixable though?

So your problem didn't start after taking the latest T-mobile update then? Turning off while holding sounds bad i hope you can get it figured out.
Now I'm convinced mine had something to do with the dual screen case. It started right after my dual screen case stopped working. I'm guessing it loosened the usb connector or maybe something from the magnet charging adapter itself.

I'm in the UK. My problems started after I upgraded to android 10. It worked flawlessly up until then. I then updated to android 11 hoping that might solve the problem but it didn't. I'm now thinking it's a fault with the screen after it played the whole of the eternals film without turning off as it was sat on the table and not touched. As soon as I try and do something with it while holding it, it turns off, but there's no specific time limit. Sometimes it's on for 20 minutes before it turns off, sometimes it's 20 seconds.
