Last evening we transported a 17 month old child to the hospital in great distress - with a high fever and flu-like symptoms. In an effort to distract her, I whipped out my handy Moto Droid and selected the movie "Ice Age" to keep our patient attentive throughout the half hour ambulance trip to the hospital in Burlington. Once the patient was offloaded, I began my tasks of disinfecting the rig and all equipment used and or touched by our feverish patient... including my Droid. I spritzed a palm full of hospital grade antimicrobial foam into my palm, and promptly took to wiping it across the surface of the Droid, including the screen (but making sure not to get any of the foam into the ear bud port). Just as soon as the foaming agent came in contact with the screen - it went bonkers... causing the screen to act all on its own - texting gibberish in one long strand - as if being operated by a ghost. I didn't catch-on fast enough... and just thought it was a software issue. So much so, I re-rooted the device, clearing the cashe and system memory, and installed a clean Froyo FRG01B ROM. Even AFTER the clean install, it kept throwing gibberish and duplicate text. Very annoying. It wasn't until the second rebooting and installation that I figured it out... seems the antibiotic foam leaves an odd surface film that causes the signals to and from the screen to go haywire. It all stopped immediately after I wiped the screen with an alcohol wipe. Amazing! I wonder how many other people have experienced similar problematic results that just (for me...) required a simple cleaning.
Feel free to pass along this handy bit of information... in the hops it helps some other truly frustrated Droidite.
Sincerely,
Sandy Korda,

This happens to my Desire too when I use antibacterial gel.. But normally it goes away when it vaporizes..

Well it fell out of my pocket into a puddle yesterday, It was still in the leather case so it didn't completely soak. The first thing i did was take out the battery. It was still on after it fell in the water and seemed ok, but i was still in panic mode and took the battery out right away. I didn't have a torx 6 so i took a blowdryer to it, on cool!
Well got the torx 6 today and took the whole thing apart and its under a desk lamp drying up whatever is left.
while i was still panicing i did do a test and put the battery back in when i thought it was dry, and it would turn on and reset itself once it got to the windows push to talk green screen. Dumbest thing i could have done but im past that.
Is there anything else i should do? i was thinking of buying one of those air duster cans and try to blow out any water that might be hideing under the components that could cause shorts.
Any other ideas to get this thing working properly would be awsome. I definatly can't afford another one, i only paid $99 for this one, refurb on cingular.com when they had a mistype.
I dropped my wife's Blackberry pearl in water once, I had the same immediate steps that you did. The only thing differently I did was left it in front of a space heater for a few "good" hours haha. Worked fine after that. Good luck
leave it in a car in all day if its still warm where you live. fixed mine when it fell in the sink and mine still works just fine.
Ok everything went ok when i put everything back together. everything turned on properly and went well till i tested the keyboard.
Now most keys work and a slight few dont. Typing "r" results in "rh" coming on the screen.
Would this be due to the keyboard being ruined, or is it internal circuitry of the pda?
Also something that I experienced with the blackberry. For me I disconnected everything again and let it heat for a couple more hours and it worked just fine. Prob. due to the ability to conduct electrical currents/signals on waters part, just a guess though.
they keyboard area is like sealed i believe the contacts area, i would assume there is water still there or corrosion build up... you can fix that by taking the sticky thing off very very carefully and cleaning the contacts... that is the easy part... aligning it all back and making sure it works would be the hard part... leaving just they keyboard to dry out in some good heat for a while could solve your problem as well... might want to try that first
read the wiki and other areas about taking apart or fixing stuck keys its what i was talking about..
My 2yr old daughter dropped the mobile from a height of around 2 feet yesterday.
Initially everything seemed to work fine.I thanked the back case for saving it but After a few minutes, there was a strong pink spot near the top of the display, And then slowly it turned into blue and it spread towards the entire display. Now currenly mobile is completely black..
I can see that its turned on but i could not see anything.
So changing the display is the only way out?
I had a lot of phones before, right from N70 to 5800.All these phones took lot of abuse and still working fine. The hype about Gorilla glass made me assume that it would be much much stronger than any other phones i had used so far.But completely disappointed.
My brother recently replaced his SGS1's display after it fell from a 3ft table.Gorilla glass broke.I could not believe it.
Gorilla glass has nothing to do with anything. The display has obviously been damaged. You'll need to either return it to Samsung or have a go at replacing the screen yourself (plenty of how to's online).

Gorilla glass is scratch-resistant. It's not scratch-proof, uncrackable or unbreakable.
Still surprises me that people are surprised that bad things can happen to a phone when you drop it.. If I dropped you horizontally from a height of 3 feet, you'd feel it - worse if it was head first
Easier said than done, but keep your little girl away from your S2. I gave my boy an old Nokia with stickers and glitter all over it - can't get him off it now
Damn, you got pretty unlucky and got one of those ****ty units, it happens more often than we can think.. :/
My first SGS2 didn't even last a night : when I got it and got home, I plugged it into the mains after having almost completely discharged the 40% or so that was left in the stock battery provided with it, turned off the display so it wouldn't take the whole night to charge (I wanted to toy around with it some more, what else ? ) and when I checked back on it I couldn't even touch it, it was so damn hot that it burned my fingertips and I had to drop it back down on the desk..
I quickly unplugged it, got my infrared thermometer, and in the 5-10 minutes it took me to find this thermometer it had gotten back down to a mere (!) 86°C (measure taken on the camera lens, that's the spot that gets the hottest usually. It has not taken me more than an hour after first unpacking it to notice how hot this unit can get at times, and soon noticed that the camera lens was the weak spot. Not hard to figure out that the CPU was very near to it, and the service manual confirmed that when I got ahold of it), so it had to be at least 100°C when I unplugged it.. :/
And of course when it had cooled back down enough I tried it, but it wouldn't power up, ever again... Luckily, Orange replaced it for free and under 24hrs -but it was some luck that it was completely and irreparably fried (at this time I didn't yet have a jig), because otherwise they'd have seen that I had already rooted it -in the few hours that I had it I had found the time to do this, at the office when I was bored...
The replacement unit I got instead never overheated that much (though it too can get pretty hot at times, but that's usually a sign of something going on inside the system, and tells me to check the logcat asap to see what's going on), even though it's a chinese-made unit like the first one, but in the 5 months I've owned it it got its fair share of unvoluntary drop-downs (on a hard tiling floor and usually from 2.5-3ft high, the height of my desk). So far it has survived at least a good 10 falls 'and it's probably closer to 15-20 actually) but it's holding fast, no trouble to mention (except those that I myself cause.. lol Can't count the times I've had to reflash a ROM anymore, just because I fiddled with the wrong setting in root mode And of course, Murphy's law helping, that always happens at 2-5AM when I'm fiddling with it before going to sleep, and I have to get downstairs again to get my jig and my flashing gear hooked to the computer and find a suitable stock ROM to start over, sometimes even having to repartition the whole damn contraption, and wasting away the precious few hours of sleep I could've had if I had given up earlier... But "****up and error" has always been my usual way of learning )...
This seems to be more of a software issue than a hardware issue. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the kernel as well but I'm not sure...
Anyway the touchscreen on my rooted Evo 3D with hboot 1.50 is acting up. Sometimes it completely freezes up, and other times when I try and press different parts of the screen, like the the app drawer it just doesn't register. When it freezes up it also affects the soft buttons at the bottom of the phone.
I've tried wiping it several times, and I've also tried this across several different roms, even nandroids, and it is still causing problems.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Try calibrating your screen threw settings to see if that helps.

I had that thought too but it still didn't work. I should also mention that the only way to "fix" the screen temporarily is to hit the power button and then hit it again to wake it back up. It usually does the trick... for a little bit. Also sometimes it just goes berserk and start pressing things without me even touching the screen
Are you running any kind of lockscreen program such as widgetlocker? I had similar problems when doing so, all issues stopped when I uninstalled.

I wish I was so I could fix it but I'm not.
Sorry man, was stabbin in the dark. good luck.
Think it's the Digitizer...
I have the same problem with an Evo3D hboot 1.5 also. It is rooted (ship s-on) I've had the phone for about 4 months, taken good care of it, and thus thought this bug was a software issue as well...
This is what I've tried:
-Factory Data Reset
-Restore Backup partition to original ROM
-Tried different ROMs (sense3.0, olympian xe, sicksense vX)
-Deleted and reformatted SD card
-Leaving SD card unmounted
It seems to be a popular issue, and after searching the CDMA Development forums I have found at least two other threads on the same topic here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398048
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383707
I don't have insurance, and rooting hboot1.5 is not reversible, for it is permanently recorded on the bootloader, so I'm assuming that my local Sprint representative will be of little help in the matter. From what I can find it would seem that our options are limited to:
A.) Replacing the Digitizer/LCD assembly. Looks like this runs between $70-$120. Here is a solid video on YouTube demonstrating how to remove and replace the Digitizer/LCD:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suS34kNNuLo
B.) Replace the Digitizer only. From what I've gathered this is a risky maneuver which is best left to professionals with the *right* equipment, however is a much cheaper option, Digitizers are around $20.
I left a message with a local cell repair shop asking if they could replace the digitizer without a new LCD, and expect a response tomorrow probably.
Unless anybody has found an alternate cause/solution to this problem, which I would be eternally grateful for, looks like hardware replacement is the only solution.
2 questions one are you guys using screen protectors some of them will cause issues crazy ones from random clicking to unresponsive screen . Also are you using your phone out in the cold weather or really humid out ? A cold screen and hot hands will also wig it out.
I have a Zagg screen protector, which Radioshack carries for numerous phones; however it was installed when I bought the phone, four months ago, therefore I cannot imagine it would suddenly be the problem.
Also, the screen glitches at room temperature, at the most unfortunate times.
I just flashed Timat Kernels, with no results....

I have a zagg on mine I put on no issues for me. How do you carry your phone ? Do you tote it around in your back pocket? Just curious. Some folks have squished there phone sitting on them and messed up the screens. Not sayin you did that . Also folks carry in pocket on hot summer days and sweat gets inside the unit and messes with it.
Also is your phone brand new or a refurbished unit?
The phone is a new unit and I try to be conscious of high-moisture situations, so hopefully that is not to blame. If anything, excessive pressure may have been the cause, from a vacuum-sealed Drycase; but I'm hoping HTC's build quality would withstand such force, which should be minimal compared to being sat on.
Others are experiencing issues with the E3D digitizer, and I'm 90% sure my phone is not misbehaving from physical/moisture damage.
Is there a moisture damage indicator that can confirm/dismiss that theory?
Thanks for the suggestions

Check the battery it has a sticker that will turn a solid color if it seen some water or high humidity. Also I think there is one inside the phone.
I have in the pass seen evo's that were refurbs or new units that were sat on the refurbs glass wasn't glued well and moisture got under the glass and screwed the screen up with random issues. New phones can have the same issues I guess if you really put pressure to it tho there sealed pretty well.
If the Digitizer was going bad from pressure your screen would have faint black lines going down it kinda like graph paper.
I have my phone in a trident kraken case it's been doing good so far.
After hours of research, countless nandroid wipes, and even a few ROMs, I have determined this to be a hardware issue! (at least in my case)
Much thanks to Landon4444 for providing a way to test for a lame digitizer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20791773&postcount=40Here's how to check if this issue is result of a faulty/worn digitizer:
In the phone dial exactly *#*#3424#*#* to access the HTC diagnostic menu.
Choose line test from available options, screen will turn black.
Draw small test squiggle.
Hold phone by corners with fingers/thumbs (landscape).
Gently, twist phone torsional-ly. *GENTLY!*
In my case, certain slight torque creates a false contact in the upper-middle of my screen. Fortunately twisting slightly in the opposite direction HAS RESOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR NOW. (that was easy) However, I would not expect this tactic to work for long, and am looking into getting the digitizer replaced at the cell shop.
Evo 3d help guys!!
Okay so I just got a raise and an Evo 3D part of my boss's incentive package. (I know I have a great boss!!) but anyway its been less than a month and I haven't purchased any of the screen protector stuff or case. It is now 17 degrees in New York and I'll just drop the phone in my pocket while walking but yesterday at the beginning of a date the parking meter wouldn't take my money and upon trying to use my phone it started dialing it's own numbers and wouldn't let me enter any of the numbers for my code (to unlock). *Mind you my date kept telling me all night "Its a sign that you need the iphone" and I totally like the HTC 3D.I tried calibrating **BY THE WAY IT'S NOT ROOTED YETTT* but the only options your given is the GSensor Calibration. I've noticed that after I enter a warm area the phone starts working fine again. I've never had a smartphone and I think, upon finally getting one, that's it's totally ridiculous that the phone stops working because of the weather. At this point I think I have a faulty phone and am gonna return it to only get another 3D,but has anyone heard of this issue and if so how can I fix it. I mean like what if I had a car accident or an emergency and my "smartphone" starts acting up because of the weather???
Hey guys...I put this post up a few days ago and still haven't received a response. my timing to retunr the phone is running short so I NEED SOMEONE TO HELP PLEASE!!...Is this a normal circumstance that my phone is going through? if not I'll return it and get another one.
Its some grounding issue occuring due to maybe screen touching the main board. Its occurs on my phone very frequently and when normal occurs only if i press hard on screen
my phone also freezes up sometimes and goes crazy and it takes it some time for it to start working....
I ended up replacing the unit.it was faulty. Funny thing is I was trying to tell the guy the problem and when he grabbed it he saw it was broken.the problem worsened to the point the the phone was dialing on its own and going haywire.

So, a few days ago I accidentally spilled some brandy on top of my phone and some went in from the speaker. Since then, my display shows some erratic behavior, sometimes it would freeze till I turn it off and immediately back on and fixes itself. The very right hand side is completely not responding. My problem is that I had to leave the US so it is no longer covered by the Asurion protection plan. Is there a way to repair it?
you should be able to find some other cellphone repair place.. but if its alcohol that spilled on it, id say wait a few days or so to let it completely dry out and avoid using it so there's no long term damage.. once upon a time i spilled Bacardi on my wireless keyboard.. and it stopped working... few days later i decided to test it out and it was back up and kicking like nothing happened.. well of course it was kinda sticky from the alcohol so i just had to wipe it off
The brandy will leave sugar crystals and cause dendritic growth.. A good cell shop should be able to clean it with special board cleaners..
Dendritic growth is micro crystals causing interference fields between the pads on high density surface mount bga's etc..
Basically the high frequency signals need that tiny space so the field their electricity generates doesn't jump or overlap the other feet causing interference / resistance etc

My daughter's stock Verizon LG G3 just started having this problem. 5.0.1. It was bought new from Verizon around Christmas time.
The phone had gotten wet at the bottom several months back - I immediately removed it from the SupCase (Beetle Unicorn, which keeps out water fairly well on its own), removed the battery, dried it with a hair dryer, etc. It worked just fine after that, for at least a month or two.
Then yesterday she said people couldn't hear her. I assumed it was delayed damage from the water exposure, but after reading here and elsewhere about people with similar problems, I'm not so sure. Some additional info:
Works fine with Speakerphone.
Google Now on any screen was not checked. I turned off the regular one as well.
Booted into Safe Mode.
Uninstalled Google App updates.
Pulled battery, SIM card, blew aggressively into the opening.
Cleared Cache Partition.
None of these worked.
If I talk/yell directly into the microphone opening, it sometimes gets through, but sporadically.
One interesting piece of information that puzzles me:
There is an 'echo' of what is spoken into the microphone coming from the earpiece, with a split second delay, even if the other party isn't hearing anything. Where is this coming from, and does it imply that the microphone is actually working, but some software glitch is preventing it from being transmitted to the person you're speaking to??
Any ideas/suggestions appreciated. Haven't tried a Factory Reset yet, but that might be next.
A big question for me is if Verizon will screw me over saying this is water damage, while it might really be an original hardware problem, or some Lollipop update artifact. The problem didn't appear for at least a month, possibly 2, after the brief water exposure.
