It is now in the app market. I am still looking for a developer to make the process more automated. Also working on a version 2.0 which will be a free update to existing users though my top priority to is to find a developer to help make this as easy of an install as possible... Looking to further optimize performance and increase user friendliness.
Tested and confirmed working on:
Acer iconia a 500
Dell Streak
Motorola Xoom
Atrix
Incite
Galaxy Tab
Galaxy S (At&T)
Asus transformer
(Thank you to my secret buddy at my favorite electronic store for letting me root, test and install on some of your display models hehehehehehe)
how long is it supposed to take to boot ubuntu.img?
ive been sitting for 10 minutes on the blue screen with it saying "this can take some time..."
but how much??

It is probably already booted. If you are still seeing a blue screen you have missed a key step (but your doing great if you are this far!)...You need to open AndroidVNC viewer (or your favorite vnc viewer) and configure it as directed in the directions. Address is Localhost, port is 5900, password is ubuntu. Then select the connect button and you will be off to the races! Did you install busy box yet? Just make sure to read the directions, I got hung up there in the beginning also until I went back and read it again.
So in the terminal after typing:
su
cd /sdcard/ubuntu
sh ubuntu.sh
Now press the home button and open and configure the VNC viewer. You only need to configure it once. After that it will remember everything and you can just open it and press connect.
yeah it had booted even though it said "this can take some time..."
thanks its all working now
i never overclocked as my streak wont work with setcpu
but gimp still opens up quite fast
thanks again

No problem. You can change the screen resolution to fit perfect to your streak if you open the file manager in ubuntu and go to root/init.sh and open that with leafpad or gedit and change the resolution to 800x480. Overclocking it makes it insanely quick. I can open openoffice in under 5 seconds. Also if you run the update manager you can update to 11.04 no problems though it takes about 8 hours lol.

Yes, I should have been more clear.
800x480 is better but i could not use it all the time but its ok to mess about with

I agree but it is blast. I wish I could TV out to a TV or monitor and use the phone screen as a mouse pad. I will keep dreaming though
officially impressed. As soon as I gather some spare time I must try this.
Can you elaborate on the Terminal Emulator? Suggest a good free one perhaps?
For the rest of you tightwads (like me) OverclockWidget seems to be working okay for me.

Yes gladly, the best one in my opinion is free from the market. It is called "Android Terminal Emulator" made by Jack Palevich. If you search Terminal Emulator with the search function in the market it is in the first few results.
Impressive,
I was using Ubuntu for a while and now im very impressed with the work of bringing ubuntu to mu Mighty Streak. But there something i'd like to be clear before i go ahead.
1. As far as i know, this Ubuntu will be run on Vnc environment under Android OS, am i correct?
2. If 1 is a Yes, that means that i can back to Android at anytime to make fone call, text, ect...
3. If 1 is a No, so how Ubuntu works? And how can i do 2?
4. How long did the battery last?
Thi is it. Will ask you more if any.
Thanks buddy.

1. Yes it is.
2. Yes, you can toggle between the two. If you get a call it will overtake your ubuntu session, sort of like when you are browsing the web or really in any app and get a call.
4. I leave my ubuntu session up and running all the time, phone overclocked to 1.27 ghz and with heavy I mean HEAVY use I get about 10-12 hours of use. If I am being a normal person and not face palanted in my phone it lasts a whole day. With setcpu you can do quite a few neat things like underclock the phone when the screen is off and of course if you are using wireless rather than 3g that always helps almost double the battery life for data usage is concerned.
Also to help with battery I am using a solid black wallpaper. Not sure if it helps a bunch but it takes less to keep the screen lit, in Ubuntu and on my phone.
If you have any more questions I will do my best to answer. If you get stuck at any point and need help feel free to pm me and I will do my best to help.

I have toasted one computer trying to run ubuntu, so I really want to do this right.

No problem.
1. Download all of the files (you need all of the files in order to extract the first one, otherwise it wont work)
2. Make sure you have 7zip or alzip or really any zip tool installed on your computer
3. The first ubuntu zip (ubuntu.zip.001) is the one you need to extract. So right click the file and choose the option "extract to /ubuntu" under 7-zip or which ever tool you are using to extract. It will create a folder with all of the files you need called Ubuntu. You just move that folder to your sd card. The file is broken into 4 parts which I am guessing is due to a file size restriction with the file hosting company used. So once you extract the first ubuntu zip you have everything you need, it's just confusing because it seems like you need to extract all four. I hope that helps.

Sadly no... sorry.
Okay, I have the files extracted and placed on the SD card.
New problem.
I am running 1.2 of the new superclean version.
I have done the factory reset and cleared the dalvik cache.
I even went as far as to format the SD card prior to installing the new OS.
There are perhaps 12 programs in my downloaded apps list and half of those are actually updates of previously installed apps.
In Application Manager there are zero applications listed under the SDcard tab.
I'm getting a message that I need to move some of my apps off of the SD card because there are too many to establish a "loop" for Ubuntu to run in.
Any ideas?
Could you write something about performance of ubuntu? its take long time to load system and apps , freezes? and how to comeback from ubuntu to android? restart phone?
I'm mainly wanting the Honeycomb Gmail layout and hopefully a similar layout for reader and Docs (which docs doesnt work at all right now). So my guess is we need to make the app think that we have Honeycomb installed. So is there any way to do this? It would be kind of like a user agent option that browsers have.
It's much more complicated than that, unfortunately. When you spoof the API level, the apps will still call the Honeycomb API's. When it can't find the API's or if it calls an API that has changed, it will force close.
So would there be any easy way to get the Gmail and Reader Honeycomb versions running on the Touchpad?

So in every operating system there are API/Librarys however you want to term it. What they are is a common set of functions or ways of doing something that programs can use so the developer of said program does not have the recreate the wheel EVERY time they make a program. Thats how we have so many apps in the market.
Now Honeycomb and Gingerbread have very different API/Library's from each other. So what that means is if you were to install the gmail app form honeycomb and "trick" it into actually running what will happen is the program will ask the OS "Okay i need this set of instructions so i can execute" and the OS will reply "WHAT THE **** ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT HOMEBOY YOU BE STRAIGHT TRIPPIN BOO" and will promptly shoot that app in the face and will result in a force close.
So the only way to fix that would be to have all the honeycomb api/librarys. We don't actually have a good way of making that into the tablet because the sorce has not been released. All we have is and SDK which helps us make honeycomb apps but not run them on other devices.
hope that helps... i may be a little wrong in explaining but it should be roughly accurate

Trying to run an app made for honeycomb on gingerbread is like asking if you can use the calculator app made for windows 7 in windows xp (or the paint app).
So,what your saying is,if you trick it I to running, sometimes it works, sometimes it crashes, and sometimes its flakey ....
Actually, I'm sure that's NOT what you were trying to say. you were saying it would not work at all, ever, which honestly,I find very hard to believe. In windows, unless your talking windows 16 bit vs 32bit vs 64 bit binaries, your results are dependant on the app. Some programs runfine if you trick them, some don't run at all.
what MAY be the case here though is that there might be something going on with the libraries they are compiled against. However, all I hear are people repeating what they read elsewhere. I agree with the OP,I would like to be able to force the issue. I don't need the OS, OR some guy on the internet telling me that it wont run. If I want to fruit,I'd prefer the OS to do what I tell it an run it,even if it crashes the whole deviceand requires a reboot.

don't get me wrong,I dont think that you can magically make HC apps run on GB by flipping a few bits in an executable. however, experience on other platforms tell me that there my well be some allocations that really are GB apps, with minor tablet optimizations, but marked as HC apps, because a developer just used the GB stuff he was used to instead of anything specific to HC. Wheter or not this is possible on android,I don't know, but its.certainly seen on other platforms. As such,I'd like the ability to try to force an app to run. honestly, who cares if hangs or force closes. its no big deal. I understand why a developer does not want that to happen,as a gracefully warning and refusal to run does not give his app a bad Rep. I however will not be confused. If it hangs, force closes,or even corrupts data,I will understand why it did it. I first. with nanny android telling me its a bad idea to run it,but if.I dont believe her she should step aside and let me grab the hot pan.handle on-the-job stove.

Its true that other apps may run. But we are not talking about other appswe were talking about the gmail app specifically. Which in android is dependant on many of the other Google apps. So no, in that case even if you could trick the app into thinking it was on HC it would immediately close because it willtry to call the contacts app and so on. So then we get into making a majority of the HC gapps run on gingerbread. No Dev would waste their time on this knowing ICS is only a few months away.
So while many third party apps are ports from GB anyway and would run the first party gapps will not period

Hi I have an old tablet with froyo running Facebook in tablet mode. How can i get fb to show the navigation bar on our touchpad? Fyi, I installed the same apk on my tp that was installed on my old tablet and it will not show the navigation pane on my tp.
Hi guys, ive looked all around the web trying to find a solution but i cant say i found something yet so here it is.
I have a Nokia N900 right now and as much as i like it, its getting old, so im slowly looking for a new phone.
I feel like i might have been spoiled by the N900 multitasking and i want to know if my requirement for my new are possible to have.
So here it is: Is it possible to multitask with multiple instances of some applications? Really its only for email and sms, so i can for example copy text from one email, paste it in another one that is also open at the same time and can switch back and forth between them. In other words, can i have multiple sms/email conversations opened at the same time (one conversation with bob, one with jack, one with dave...) i often have more than 10-15 of them open at the same time on my n900 and if there would be only one reason for me to keep my phone it would be that.
I looked for multitasking apps with grid view hoping it would do that but from what i see you can only have one of those apps running at once anyway and it might seem crazy but for the number of time I switch between conversations on my n900, like i would using WLM for example, this could be a major dealbreaker for me if its not possible.
I'm sorry if it looks like a stupid question or something but ive completely missed the bus regarding android/ios/bb developpement as i used wm6.5 then switched directly to maemo5 2 years ago.
no one, really?
I don't think it works this way on Android, though you just might be able to find an app that does this.
thanks for the input
Sup Neo! I too went from the N900 to a GSII and I find myself not regretting it at all. There is no TRUE multitasking like the N900, at all from what I have found.
I'm not sure if any apps have been made available for such multi tasking, but I don't think anyone here who doesn't have N900 experience will understand what we mean.
Now it just needs an N900 writer to make something happen for android. Otherwise, I do NOT regret switching over, I absolutely love the speed and freedom of my new phone. The N900 was killing me on simple tasks like sending and receiving MMS, or connecting to the internet without destroying my battery life. No regrets.

Yo. Most Android apps can support multitask on its own UNLESS the developer has puposely disable it.
iOS and Android don't run in Windows style, ie, you can open 2 Mozilla Firefox windows at the same time. Copy and paste work the same as the pc.
So I guess you would have problems in the multiple email opening thing, most phones cannot.
So my suggestion is to keep your N900 as a email phone and change to android or iPhone as your main phone.

Having two phones would suck, and I'm sure he would get over the whole multi tasking issue after a week of using the SII
But I have to say, nothing is as impressive as bouncing around from different windows, and different text messages, and different apps as much as you want.
You just can't substitute for it

Ok OK so Android does have "True" multi-tasking
I would like to see it have Multiple Visible applications running at once and accessible between each other. Maybe that's what we should say when we want to see "Real" multitasking, and not just "true" multitasking.
Once again, still satisfied, but we have a craving that we want to fill as well sometimes.
I would like to see android implement this. Webos(palm/hp) had "card style" applications windows and it was epic. That's said, I'm back to android. Just sayin

Hmm, depends what kind of multitasking you like, the one that actually let's you fully quits apps or one that is fully automated, meaning that you just use it without doing anything and still feel the multitasking, ie you press the home button and it still runs, however you may not notice it, until u use the same app again. However, this means you have to restart every night, to really close the apps, otherwise android will manage for you.
So it means that apps run indefinitely, and when you reopen the app, it will revert to what you did before, you can complete task like scanning eg those with a progress bar and you will see it filling the bar until completion even in the homescreen or other apps, and as I said, unless the developer wants to close the app when you are not using it.

That's Androids Multitasking in a Nutshell, completely understand how it works and it does work well I might add. But it's just the extra step of being able to visually locate the running apps and access them. If you look at your Task Killer for example, you see the running tasks correct? But in order to use them, you have to navigate to the app and click it, no matter where it is on your system.
What I would love to see would be more of a Click and Open option to viewing your running tasks. Sort of like a back screen when you Zoom Out of your desktop on android. The same way you can see all of your desktops, you would be able to see all of your running apps and select which one to open, or to close.

That looks very interesting, is that for ICS? Even if it were for only one instance of each app, it would be more than we have now.
I just hate going from one app, to sending a text, to opening that app again. But I am not dying without it, that's for sure

I suppose this is your first android phone? We're having a discussion here no worries. Yeah but if android were to use the window thing, there would be 10-20 Windows everytime. That's where the homescreen comes, just drag all your frequently used apps there and done, the so called window is done

Andriod multitasks. You can have a ton of apps open at the same time and switch between them. However you can not have more then one instance of the same app running. So while you cant open say gmail and open multiple mails in seperate frames you can still switch between say a web page and mail.
There might be so great mail apps out there that handle mail seperatly, im just not sure which would do it. Bottom line,x the android OS is more then capable of doing what you want. Someone just needs to make or find the app for your needs.

That's just it, that would be the thing I KNOW android doesn't have yet wish it did. We all know we can't have more than one instance of the same app running at once, that much is clear. But having it would be the part I crave, and I'm sure others as well.
Imagine being able to reference to a previous text with someone else whenever you want to while working on another text with someone different.
Like I said, I UNDERSTAND YOU CAN'T DO IT, I just wish you could!
and I wish people would stop explaining it to me lol, I KNOW, and I'm not asking for anyone to tell me how it works. I'm just saying, it would be nice, this is all!
also, being able to bounce from Xterm to open notepads or texts to anything, now that is how you process info on a phone. We'll never be satisfied, but for now I am.
Thanks for the replies fellas.

This would be my first android phone yes, and I think I came into the android world on a great phone as well. Home screen works but like I said, it's just the ability of having multiple things going on at once, as I will repeat in my reply to this post below vvvvvv

Chill man, ease on the caps
It is supposed to be released today on all mobile devices at $4.99 US. The photon is one of the supported devices. When it shows up for purchase I will be getting it

Running great on my MoPho and I/O gtab. You can go to the market on you computer and send it to your MoPho , that's what worked for me
photon with cm7
The game started up and downloaded the extra files but now it wont display anything then force closes. I'm running cm7 with the new 1.4 oc kernel. Any ideas?
So i uninstaled and reinstalled the game and works perfect now. I remember the first time downloading the extra files there was an error of some kind. No error on second try tho and works great.
I first had a problem where my internal storage was full but instead of saying so while trying to download the extra files, it just says no internet connection could be found. After clearing up that issue, the extra files downloaded but I am met with a black screen upon running the app. If I press the back button a message appears on the screen asking me press back once more to quit. I restarted my phone and it did not help. I cleared the app data and I'm currently downloading the files again.
Unrooted Stock Photon with all updates.
*Edit* Someone in the below thread said their issues were resolved by installing over wifi instead of 3G, which is what I have been trying. I will try installing over wifi tonight.

looks surprisingly well, controls are pretty good, although when driving the car the left and right steer are really sensitive but i didnt really mess around with the settings yet but looks 10 times better than it did on my ps2 when it came out. a classic
The game runs great for me, running rooted/unlocked CM7, but I'm having issues with the sound - not getting any at all. Anyone else have that issue?
anyone know what to use for wiimote controls?
i get this message...does anyone get this message ?

I just installed it on my Transformer and pulled the apk, runs fine.
Has anyone made a sixaxis work for controls?

Did it show up in the market when you manually typed it into your photon after you pulled the APK?
I'm wondering something....

Nope, used a link to get to the app page in the market and it gives me the same incompatible message.
For whatever it's potentially worth for other problems, I solved my sound issue by simply uninstalling, re-downloading, and reinstalling the game. I assume some file containing the audio quietly failed to get properly downloaded.
if you are using jokers skinnyrev2test2, you wont be able to see it on the market however once you change rom's ( to lets say cm7 ) the market will see it just fine..
Hi all, already searched and found a few old threads but none with a working apk or zip. Anyone get Teamviewer remote working with the Galaxy S5, either with stock rom or running CM11? I'm currently running CM11 but can't seem to find any modified apks or zips working with Teamviewer remote control. The rest of Teamviewer works great, can see the screen, remove apps/processes, etc. Just no remote. If this one isn't working anyone else get any of the VNC remotes working so I can see/control my phone from a computer?
Regards,
F

I've used VNC hundreds of times before without any issues. Its paid so i can't give you the apk but here is the playstore link. There are other free versions but they require root (this version uses a root method also which i use) but i don't know if you have root or not.

Hmm, that's too bad. I tried it, the server refuses to start on the phone, even though the PC app see's the phone just fine and issues commands for it to start. Phone is rooted, CM11 Unified ROM, server just won't start. Strange.

Just search VNC server in play store and you should get a bunch of other ones to try.

Agreed, there are a ton of them. Tried about 8 of them, almost all completely fail, closest I got was one that would open a window on my PC of the phone screen, but it was all fuzzy, looked like how the cable company would scramble stations years ago. Tried a few different resolutions and orientations, at a bit of a loss at this point. Got TeamViewer to show the screen but cant interact with it. Grrr!

Hmm, very strange. I use the one I mentioned on my tablet. but i connect my phone to the VNC server so i can pause videos when the tablet is plugged into the TV.
I wonder if something itsn't right in CM11? Have you tried it on a TouchWiz ROM?
Just use Samsung sync. You can control the phone over wifi or via therering. Works really well.

Samsung sync does work well, but it is not lightweight. Has anyone been able to get a VNC server working on the S5? I have tried a bunch of apps with no luck.
