I won't pretend I know about how the lag fix increases the performance of my phone. I greatly appreciate the work Developers put into these releases, so this not meant to bash either.
I been using the one click from the market for a while (newer version doesn't work on my Fascinate), the phone is snappier and my quadrant scores are around 2500+ with my noticing it has something to do with I/O being very high with the default setting of about 680MB when installed. I also follow the other defaults loading on boot.
I never tried the older lag fix on the forum...
I'm running Voodoo .02 now and even though I know it's running EXT4 instead of EXT2 on Ryanza's, I notice quadrant scores of 1700+ and not that snappy feel (could be imagined). I do notice that Voodoo uses much less space.
Will the Voodoo fix increase in time with OC kernels or other fixes I'm ignorant of?
Will there be a fix for the 56FPS limit? (not that it's important)
Thanks in advance for the responses. I've always thought the Galaxy S line devices were the fastest, just wondering how to measure or take advantage of this.
Ryan's is ****.
Sorry, but that was mean. There is literally no comparison. Voodoo is miles better than the old lagfix. There is absolutely no doubt in anyone's mind that Ryan's was a temporary fix before Voodoo.
yeah, i was told that the OCLF was a loopabck command or something along those lines, therefore your quadrant scores are completly inflated, where as voodoo is actually closer to the real filesystems that other phones use or what sould have actually been implemented in the phone in the first place, so in reality the OCLF is jsut inflating your benchmarks, and voodoo is more along the lines of what the phone is actually capapble of. i think voodoo is much smoother and can tell a huge difference, i ran the OCLF for one day and got rid of it, also its pretty inpressive that with a real lafix(voodoo) this blows away all other phones that are out, even then ones on Froyo.

Could you be any douchier? Why apologize for something you say in a post when you can just delete what you say before posting it. If you really were sorry you wouldn't have posted that part. It's fine to say that you think one is better than the other, but to call something ****, then apologize right after....on a message board is the beyond doucheness.

Sometimes our instincts can get the better of us.
I really don't know what you're getting at. I've seriously been a pretty nice guy about stuff lately and this is one instance where I've said something douchy. I do believe that Ryan's fix was a ****ty quick fix. It's better than stock but terrible because it inflates scores and uses terrible loops.

Maybe I'm just being overly analytical, one of my pet peeves is someone apologizing for something they say on a message board, right after posting what they are apologizing for.
I mean, imagine how it would have looked had I just left "Ryan's is ****" or I had deleted it but the edit was still viewable by clikcing the "Edit by Gitykins" thing. I would have looked like even more of a dickhead.

ANYWAY, back to what we were talking about...
Yes, Ryan's OCLF was a great interim fix, but unless I am completely mistaken, even he wasn't thinking of it as the permant solution...
Voodoo, on the other hand, is the real deal, the ACTUAL fix.
Agreed, got mine and looking for a 2.2 rom now.

First I need to apologize for making this thread in the first place since most of my question was answered in the Original Voodoo thread (I shouldnt have scanned it)
Thank you for the answers, it did give me the information that I needed.
So curious. Anyone been monkeying with honeycomb on the GTab?
tnerb123,
Read the STICKY from the moderator in either General or Developer -- I forget
which.
Basically so many people asked -- and there is no answer right now -- that they
closed the threads on Honeycomb. I think there still are a few.
Basically, Honeycomb is not in development here right now.
Rev
Nope. All the devs have decided that they are keeping honeycomb for themselves.
Not yet - can't wait.

as an owner of both a cracked out gingerbread g-tab and a xoom wifi. I can honestly say ... your not missing out on much..
(though the USA today app just recently released is what I use to showcase the abilities of honeycomb..... OMG it is sweet )
other than that not much to worry about... It will get here when it gets here
x2 on HC (Xoom user) -- it's "meh". For example, not microSD support is one major blunder, and performance is lacking in certain areas. Nenamark scores are in the 20's versus the 40's in newer mods here. It's got some bugs to be worked out. The raw CPU speed seems to be faster, though.
There are some very good things, like some of the apps included, and being released. But it's going to take time to get up to speed. I'm actually a little annoyed that we haven't seen a major Xoom update, yet.
I wasnt asking when or where it is. I just wanted to know preformance wise what it looked like compared to what we currently have. Roebeet, pretty much answered what I was trying to get out of this thread. Thank you sir!
Are we all waiting on the GB fix? It is nice to have a phone and not have it flashed every other day but it makes me sad that we are at a standstill. Thank you devs for everything that you have done thus far and I look forward to trying out new things when everyone comes back! I just really wanted to say that I miss you all!
... There was an update on a GB rom today... I mean a new Kernel was just released and the radio was just posted yesturday... I am not sure what you are talking about I feel the devs are quite alive here still tickin'. I feel like this post is going to get flamed.
I know what he means, it just feels dead in here. There probably is more behind the scenes, but for us common folk it seems dead.
Yea. I feel ya man. It feels dead. I felt the same way but the radio and some rom update seems Alive bbut I only want the new and still waiting for bamf.. but finally saw pr3 so gonna jump on that boat.
sent from my........(rebooting)..... thunderbolt.
I'm seeing lots of new ROMs and some with accompanying radios. Yesterday I installed the Chingy MR2 radio and Gingeritis IX, and all works great, no reboots.
Right now I'm downloading Th3ory of Ginger and and Th3ory3.0CandyV3, and those came with an MR2 radio, so it looks like things are all clear now? I gotta get my flash fix !
Feel free to start learning how to write and hack code, otherwise wait patiently and quit posting threads asking even if it's in a way that tries to be polite .
Unless you've had experience in writing code, it's hard to understand why things take so long so just imagine you're given a huge pile of parts and only half the directions to put it together (given the half from android and missing the half from htc, which htc was also nice enough to put in a format you cant easily read without translating). Your family keeps asking you "are you done yet??? You say no, it'll be done when it's done. So yeah. Working on a sense based android phone is sort of like that in the best way I can give a metaphor in non technical terms.

It's okay to wonder, sure. However, dont you think someone would post something if there was something new in the developers forum? Developers might hate being asked when something will be out, but the one thing developers like to tell the world about is something new and shiny they just made.
Just from my experience, the only people that can really pester a developer about when something should be done are paying clients. Even those get annoying, because developers sort of have a pet peeve against giving a set deadline since things generally don't go according to plan, especially when you cant estimate the project scope for something like android.
Might not agree with me and I'm relatively new to developing on android and haven't coded/hacked anything impressive enough to show yet, but I have linux development experience on other platforms and can just say how developers feel from my own experience of working with clients and free advice/work I've given elsewhere.

Wondering is fine but you might not have posted this if you read the dev forums. Plenty is going on so just your perception is at a stand still.
I just bought my Thunderbolt yesterday...and I'm coming from the Samsung Mesmerize. The difference in dev support is like night and day. Dev support was half the reason I bought the Thunderbolt. Keep up the good work guys.

I think its time to change the theme of this post, as the original question has been answered.
New Topic-What do we need from Samsung to create the closest to perfect rom for this phone?
PM me if you want Samsung to give us what we need, so we can show them that its wanted.
Also you can hit my thanks button just because : )
and i quote

oh man
Do we have anyone over 3 in here?
im actually 4.
Hey Bro
Well we need to promote creating a perfect 2.2.1 rom, because only then can we improve on GB and ICS!

...No that makes NO sense at all.
How would improving a 2.2 help with anything on GB or ICS?
Also no ROM can ever be perfect since our GPS is screwed and it works for some doesn't work for others.
Some ROMS 911 doesn't work.
There are issues that the developers just cannot fix without a bit of help from Samsung.

I agree...we also need Microsoft to create a perfect win98 before of giving us win7.
Theory
Listen the theory is to stabilize areas there where we already have degrees of stability will help us more easily figure out other problems. Its like playing minesweeper, you eventually get good and are able to beat the harder levels. Nothing is impossible even without the help of samsung. Have some faith in the skill of our developers here bros.
Although I see where you're coming from, but just know there's major updates in the way things work from 2.2(.1) -> 2.3 -> 4.0.
Honestly, devs have gotten really far with the bits and pieces we have.
We'll never have a perfect 2.2.1 or 2.3 or 4.0, why? Because devs can't pull correct drivers out of thin air, if Samsung or T-Mobile actually supported us, it'd be a hell of a lot easier.
So, honestly.. I dun know why you're saying we should perfect 2.2.1, it's outdated, it's old.. it's a completely different base than ICS, so that comparison doesn't work.
we never had a perfect donut rom either.....

You bring out very valid points. Here is what I believe about that, the vibrant itself runs best on 2.2.1, and while the others are fun they will always be laggy. I'm not says the devs are not doing good, these are very intelligent people. I just believe that we need to get the rom working at 100‰ and if we can't 99 ‰ not including the GPS. The GPS we can overlook but force closes and other things shouldn't be a part of it. I think that moving on without completion will create a bad habit. Its like not finishing building a house and moving to build the bigger one. I don't mean to argue, I just like healthy discussion. : )

Yeah, and I completely agree, I dun think devs should release a million different ROMs with the same bugs. So, on that end, I agree with you. I'd rather have a million updates of one ROM than have a million half-ass working ROMs. But, I don't think we should leave it to only 2.2.1 ROMs, some are working on 2.2.1, others on 2.3, and others on 4.0.
I can agree with that, I think we need to find a way to get the devs to collaborate on all the levels so that we can get some sweet custom roms flowing through the forums.... and I think I have an idea.... : )

Completely disagree with you there. "Others are fun they will always be laggy."
I honestly don't know if you've ever tried any GB or ICS rom.
NONE of them are "laggy" sure they have their moments when you're running 50 apps and they lag, no ****, so does Froyo. Do you realize that a ICS rom (passion) has gotten GPS to work for nearly everyone? Froyo roms aren't even CLOSE to that. No one thats tech-savvy wants to stay on Froyo, froyo is last years OS, we all want ICS and thats what the devs like. They like challenges, and we like the outcome.
What I'M trying to say is.. why stay on a old-os when we have a new one thats available and we've already accomplished so much on it in such a short time (ex. GPS)
Well I have used them all my friend, and they are laggy no much how we deny it. So lets build this Tom house!

I suspect your phone has **** inside it.
Please open the cover and remove the battery and check for any signs of ****.
You must be in the denial stage of the whole thing.
ICS has absolute no lag when doing normal things and when it does lag, its because well.. this ics wasn't built from a vibrant source like froyo is.
Ask anyone.
You certainly have not tried ics passion.
If you did, make sure there's no **** in your phone.
Everyone who tried ics says its fast, and if they do leave its because of 911 issue or the phone mute unmute issue.

Ics has less lag than any froyo rom.
Well I guess well agree to disagree. There is no need to come up with some smart allic response with no real reasoning behind it just because you have a mouth. I'm just saying with this phone ics yes even ics passion lags, maybe not on the galaxy s 2, but with the vibrant it does. Maybe your right, that it wont lag when we get a vibrant build of ics. But for now, those are the facts. Thank you for your contribution though. : )

[APK] Seeder entropy generator to provide significant lag reduction
Sorry if this isn't the right section, but since I hadn't seen anyone talking about this in the OG subforum, I thought I'd share what is being posted in other subforums. It's a simple to install way to eliminate lag on nearly any android device. I've installed it on my OG and it doesn't seem to impact battery life much (that I can tell), but I also never noticed any lag, so I'm not sure it's necessary in the first place. Maybe you uber users can run some logs and benchmarks and whatnot. Just thought some of you might be interested. I did notice a big difference on my Nexus 7.

Which basically says the jury's still out and they're removing their official endorsement until the benefit can be explained. The link you posted also gives this link where multiple users/devs confirm it improves the speed on multiple devices (more noticable on slower devices of course), but they haven't been able to pin down exactly how yet.

As I stated in my OP, I've never experienced any lag on my OG either. Doesn't mean it'll never happen, or that it wouldn't be an interesting thing for the geekier among us to play with. That's all this thread was for. To share knowledge with OG users who might find it useful if they have another device in their arsenal, or just want to learn more about the inner working of our OS.
If it doesn't apply to you, or you don't care or don't find it useful, fine. I don't know why anyone would bother to post and state that fact when you can more easily not post and leave the thread to those who might actually care about this.
I like how everyone assumes that this cutting edge phone will be fast forever. Like apps and the OS won't get bigger and more complex over time. This tweak works with all versions of Android so far, and can be applied to nearly every device.
