In Case of Emergency - Vibrant Themes and Apps

Here is an app everyone should have on you phone in the unfortunate
event that you are unable to express yourself at a hospital or clinic.
Since nowadays we most always have our cell phones with us at
all times, its a good thing to have all your vital non secure information
in a single location.
Doctors nurses and medical staff have heard of ICE and do look for
it on our phones.
Take the time to put as much or as little as you want on the app.

Guys, theres a movement in the community to get rid of this site which sells access to pirated paid apps. Now, this isnt to promote the site, this is to get rid of it. Please go here and sign the petition. All the information is there. Support app developers who work hard to make our phones better by helping to get rid of these pirates.
http://bit.ly/bkKwaZ
Support your community!
Also, if you follow this link: http://twitter.com/Mini_Lee/status/20682622042 it will take you to the tweet i put out with the petition link directly in it. So if you're one of those people with thousands of followers on twitter, send it out!
Done, and tweeting it.
Signed - thank you to whoever started this petition!
Been following this on Twitter today. Retweeted protests, and just signed this. I'll be honest, I pirate a lot of stuff, but I wouldn't pirate from a hard working Android dev. If pirating Android apps grew, devs might be less inclined to develop good apps for Android.
OP updated with link to RT'able tweet link.
Kusotare, what do you intend to do with the results of the petition?
I checked, their domain is registered through GoDaddy and hidden by DomainsByProxy. I sent an e-mail to DomainsByProxy to see whether they actually respond to information about illegal activity. It has been my experience that such complaints to GoDaddy will go unanswered but e-mail is cheap so I hit them up too.
But in all honesty, this will be a minor hiccup, if it gets them taken down at all. The overall IP block is owned by Worldstream out of the Netherlands (according to the RIPE branch of IANA), although some tools report the actual location as Portugal. If you run a reverse IP lookup (try a good one like YouGetSignal), the web server at the same IP is also host to a bunch of Iranian spam and piracy blogs under the vatanblog.com domain, so my guess is whomever owns the server (which isn't going to be the same as those running the network where the IP block is managed) isn't going to be too worried about the results of a petition.
But I suppose it can't hurt to hit up Worldstream, so I've e-mailed them as well.
P.S. Phromik, speaking as a software developer who has been victimized by piracy, you're a hypocritical tool.

Really no need for him to roll in here and brag about his piracy, is there?
Fighting piracy is and will always be a losing battle, but when people are actually out there profiting from other people's hard work something needs to be done.
Signed and tweeted and facebooked. I will also follow suit and send emails to godaddy and Domainsbyproxy.
Except he's not bragging... he's being honest.

GoDaddy are the domain registrant. The actual website is hosted on a dedicated server provided by worldstream.nl so you want to be contacting [email protected] as well as the Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN at [email protected]
It's interesting to note that the same dedicated server is being used to host several other warez sites including some pornography forums. I'm pretty sure neither the server provider or BREIN would be happy about these.
It's interesting to note that within the last 12 hours androidplayground has been taken offline. However I suspect this was done by the owner rather than any takedown notice. He has already set his twitter account to private and one of the last tweets he sent was about having a new server ready.
To Bad google isn't jumping on this. I mean you see his lame comment on nearly every app that comes out in the market.
What confuses me is why would somebody send him money to become a member knowing he/she is a thief in the first place.
The results of the petition will be sent to the domain registrar, the host and paypal in a three way attack. If all goes well, they'll lose their domain, hosting and ability to charge people through paypal simultaneously. I have already emailed all three of the companies to let them know about the petition.
So yes, while it may be a losing battle in the long run to fight piracy, at least we can do what we can. Signing a petition or firing off an email takes the same amount of time it does to write a post here, so why not help out?
Response from Worldstream:

Whatever....
Without defending what I consider to be a low-life, who spams every review on the Market, most pirates wouldn't really buy most products they steal, just as most people don't normally pirate stuff they genuinely want and like.
There are a ton of pirate sources for the iPhone, yet good developers do pretty well in the App store.
The only developers whining are the ones who have a crappy product and blame the nebulous evil of "piracy" for their lack of success.
This is outrageous!! Piracy should be free.
I mean that completely tongue-in-cheek, as I spend a LOT of money on android software. I admit I don't hate piracy in general, as a sort of try-before-you-buy system, but charging money for stolen goods is evil. These people are scum.
Former AndroidPlayground.net user
I used to use this site because I just assumed that they had an agreement with the developers. I couldn't even imagine the audacity it would take to charge people for pirated software.
One thing I do wonder, why do Android apps cost more than iPhone apps? This might be part of the reason people feel like they are being ripped off by the android developers and say, "screw you then".
NOT trying to justify it, but it is something to consider.

I'm just guessing, but so far all data indicates that iPhone users seem to be significantly more willing to pay for apps. I'm hoping this changes as the Android becomes more mainstream.

internet censorship petition.

This is off topic but please do this and share it with as many people as you can.

Today, Congress holds hearings on the first American Internet censorship system.
This bill can pass. If it does the Internet and free speech will never be the same.
Join all of us to stop this bill.
Dude, change your title, this is not at all irrelevant or off topic. Every member of xda that enjoys the freedom to obtain information, exchange information, and use information freely needs to know about the things our governments, plural, are trying to censor. Yes you can find information on the internet on how to build a bomb, but that same information can be used for little Johnny and his science project. The internet is what it is today because the networks that makeup the internet self manage and police themselves.
I have obtained education from my university to know how to synthesize drugs, build bombs, etc. that information also has the power to help or save lives. Should my education be censored too, because I know how to efficiently kill people???

When did these petitions ever work? I can appreciate the effort, but you all realize it's not going to do jack ****. The site simply said "Thanks for sending the letter to your representative". Did it really send that? Where did it send it to?
I think most effective way would be to directly contact your representative's offices and express your concerns, instead of generating an automated email with identical text.
I just hope that we have enough people in congress with more than one functional brain cell to see that this bill is a pure nightmare and wreak all kinds of havoc. And I am sure it will be veto'd by Obama. But still, letting your representative know about it directly (without computer-generated letter) should be something that everyone does.
You can start here to get contact information: https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml
Directly contacted one of the reps in my area (Denver, Mike Coffman for anyone who questions me) as well as signed the petition.
Less government = more freedom. **** anything that would hinder my ability to know less than I should.

Google was voicing their opinion even in hearing. But what sucks is that out of 6 parties invited to the hearing, only 1 opposed the bill. Basically, bill sponsors paraded people whom they knew would support it, and threw in Google to make it look more kosher.
Facebook and twitter from what i have read are against it

Internet Censorship (SOPA) - Round two! Let's act quick!

Hey guys, we did a great job the first time around (thanks ckoadyin!!!) But sources say this could be voted on as early as next week! http://americancensorship.org/ for more info and to sign the petition again! I believe if you provide information to where you live when signing that it will automatically send email to your local congressmen, but on top of that we want as many emails and calls as possible. Worst case scenario for a filibuster to be initiated. We have a little more time this time around, so sign, call, spread the word to every social network possible, and to every forum here on xda. I can't tell you how important this is, specially considering this is being advertised as an anti piracy measure (which is total crap!), it gives law makers and large corporations tons of power to censor the internet!
Thanks for reading guys, act fast, power to the people!
I'm surprised there hasn't been any reply to this, this is so scary. I don't want my freedom to obtain or distribute information taken away

Dude, the 3 major internet giants (Google, yahoo, Bing) are all AGAINST the bill, trust me, after a couple of friends and ke kinda compared the conditions of this bill to the bill of rights in the constitution alone, it would spit all over it! By shutting down Google, you shut down blogger (freedom of speech, press, religion, peaceful assembly cut) Google ads (pretty much all rights since Google Taylor's ads to what type of site u use), and by doing that, you will probably shutdown the android project, because all major funding for Google and its servers are gone! (Freedom of expression infringed) and various other things! This bill wouldn't stand a chance!!!!!!

Although the bill won't pass, here's a more accurate depiction:
1 - They shut down thepiratebay and other torrent sites
2 - Reddit, 4chan, etc. get extremely angry
3 - they shut down 4chan
4 - users of 4chan hack government websites, start riots, god knows what they are capable of...
But the SOPA bill is probably there to make the Protect-IP thing sound reasonable even though it is still crazy.

I'm strangely aroused.
While there is opposition from large companies there is also major support from large companies too. There are over 30 senators just sponsoring the damn thing, and many more supporting it. So you will have to excuse my pessimism, I believe it has a very good chance of passing despite huge opposition from the masses. The companies that are supporting the bill are dumping a lot of money into the pockets of the very senators voting to pass it, therefore it really doesn't matter that it is unpopular.
We have to send the message that if you vote in support you will be trading your political career for it. The only way we do that is by sending emails and calling BEFORE the vote.
So please sign the petition again! If possible call your state representatives too, but at very least sign the petition!!

Thanks for your reply. I have to agree, and it is a potentially scary thought. It is written, and so is the protect IP bill, under the guise that it combats piracy. Except it gives so much power to large companies and the government that it would not be impossible to censor unrelated material! I think Americans like their freedom to obtain information via internet like they like their second amendment rights, which is deal with the consequences of not having that right controlled, rather than lose the freedom altogether. I think it is the responsibility of individual companies to protect their intellectual property themselves, not rely on the government to do it, and in the mean time censor information we have access to.
Am I right?

I find this whole blackout thing to be completely ridiculous.
I'm no fan of SOPA and I ditched GoDaddy on the few domains I own, but I find blackouts like this to be counterproductive.
I'm not fond at all of companies/websites intentionally and purposefully sabotaging their uptime and access. It serves to piss off their visitors like me. Most XDA visitors (and redditors etc.) already know about SOPA. A blackout serves no purpose.

This isn't a petition per se, the point is to get people to personally call in and lodge formal complaints with the specific senators/representatives of your state and get your voices heard.
I believe that would be much more efficient than simply typing your name in a petition.

We don't have a right to steal the IP of others. While I do not want more government in my life, the problem of piracy is very real and one that is getting worse with each generation. The ease with which we can do it has caused whole generations of kids to grow up with no respect for the property of others. All they understand is that if they can download it, they can do with it as they please. They have almost no concept of what IP and copyright are. Something has to be done not just to protect companies from unscrupulous Americans with entitlement attitudes, but from countries like China that are stealing billions from us with no controls whatsoever. Piracy costs us all in some way.

THIS^^^ Just because they did some proper services such as file hosting, they should not be allowed to pirate. One thing has nothing to do with the other. Sharing free information is one thing selling stolen info is quite the other
I dont think there will ever be a way to stop piracy. Sure they may make it harder but dont think it will ever stop. Just my 2 cents.
There is a difference between stopping piracy and giving our government the ability to police the internet in this fashion. If you give them an inch they're gonna take a mile. This is not communist China, it's the FREE USA. Do not give our government this power.
I have no quims about shutting it down if they are guilty. My thing is if they can do this without sopa, and they can, what is the need for sopa? It's just for the government to have more power as they see fit. F*ing lobbyist! More reason to fight sopa.

Have you guys ever noticed that all the devs on the i9100 section here use MegaUpload? That **** used to piss me off. Why use such a crappy service when you can easily host it on Dropbox for free and much more easily.

Very true!
MegaUpload, like other filesharing websites, had no control over what users upload. They also complied with DMCA takedown notices.
So, the actual story behind the Megaupload thing had to do with the Megaupload song they posted, sang by people like Will.I.Am, Kanye West, and some others. What ended up happening was the record company that owned some of these singers, Universal Music Group or w/e, was pissed off and demanded the song be removed off Youtube and it was just going back and forth for a while. In the end, they really took action against Megaupload and now that's why they're currently down. The real war isn't between the artists and people downloading music, it's between the record companies who are apparently being retarded and abusing their power or w/e.

if people stopped putting out bad movies, music, and games then I wouldn't pirate so much. who protects my money when I don't like what I paid for? I buy records of music I like and have over 600. I keep a long list of movies I like for a future shelf filled with 100s of them. I'm in school and making 12k per year. I pirate everything. we don't have imax, arthouse theaters, or good music here. I have to drive 6 hours out then back for a good time. if some rich person can't afford to keep their planes, boats, second and onward homes, and lot of cars - I will not lose sleep. we don't need anti piracy. we need quality control and bigger paychecks.
