Hi Guys,
I have recently successfully flashed my Nike to the NIKI_ROM_MARY_v0.3.3. It was working fine for the past 3 days apart from the odd frozen screen coming out of sleep mode (i think that had to do with some sleep/lock setting)
Then out of the blue I notice it power was off.
- I tried pressing and holding down the power button
- Removing the SIM, micro SD and battery and replacing with another battery
- Connecting to PC
- Charging
All to no avail...
Has anyone have any other suggestions before I return for warranty?
This worked for me; take the battery out leave the sim and memorycard inside the phone, attach the powercord wich is connected to the wallsocket ofcourse and switch the phone on, and then insert the battery........
2nd post cannot delete it?
i'm not sure but i dont think they will repair under warranty as you have changed the software
Same issue
I have the same issue with Mary's v4.0, if i reset or switch off the phone, it just dies, whatever I do it will not switch on.
I managed after 2 days, the keep trying to plug in ac power, with no battery, got a red charge light and then insert the battery, then hold down the power button, finally it booted, now i dare not switch off or soft reset.

if this does not work, then hold the on button and keep trying to insert, then remove and insert the battery until it starts (hopefully).
Just flashed another ROM, so doubt its ROM related, my suggestion is do the above, flash back to your original ROM and SPL, then send it back under warranty, this will be my 4th NIKI under warranty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This worked for me. Seems to be a problem with the HTC Touch Dual. Several people I know have had the phone shut down for no reason. After the above, I did a soft reset.. No problems since... Touch wood!

Hmm, okay I know it's an old thread but I have the same issue but it happened with the original rom, I finally bring the phone back to life unfortenally not with my own sim-card.
For now I'm scared to do a sofreset because I think I lost my phone again just wondering what I can do, maybe someone on this forum have a solution for this.
Regards
I had exactly the same problem... may anyone be more specific?

Hi teorouge, sometimes I got my phone back, what I did was:
1. Remove battery
2. Pressing softreset button about 10 times.
3. Insert battery and keep pressing the powerbutton until the phone reacts.
It's not a fix, the only thing you can do is use the phone but if you do a softreset the problem is back.
Personally I think the powercircuit is broken, I had to buy myself another Niki.

Thanks for the answer, I gave the Niki back to his owner... it's a corporate phone so he shouldn't personally pay any money (and me neither, that's for sure!) to get it repaired. Thou I hope for him they'll change it to a newer (and feature-rich) device!
Hi all,
I need an advice from you guys please:
My Topaz is not turning on, it simply does not do anything.
Last time I wanted to change the language but my battery was not fully charged, so in the process it suddenly turned off and since that time I am not able to turn it on, does not display nothing on screen when I press the on button it just vibrates continuously and not stop, and that´s it...
The charging light was on the 1st time I tried, but not the second time.
It is SIM unlocked but not hardspl´ed
Any advice would be great!
Thanks in advance
UPDATE 13-Mar-10
Today, I connected Topaz to wall charger, amber led turned for about 10 sec, then turns of, then vibrates, then nothing again.
I tried to do hard reset, nothing happened, then after some minutes the device is short vibrating every 1 min aprox, no led on, still can´t do nothing more.
EDIT: After 15 min of short vibrating every 1 min, now it´s completely dead again........
Thanks for reading,
Can you put it in bootloader? Is a hardreset possible?
Try to turn the phone off, remove battery, and insert it again. Then hold vol down and press power. Do you get red/green/blue (or whatever) colors?
If you do. let it boot until it says USB (perhaps need to connect usb to PC for it to change from serial to usb) and after that just run the topaz ruu and it should flash.
If you dont get it to start to 3 color screen try and hold up+down and press power.
yes, Vol down and powerbutton. should boot to serial/usb flash screen.
Thanks guys for your reply
Soon as I get home I´ll try and report back
Cheers,
Flash a stock ROM

Hi
Just check that if you try to reflash the ROM whether you should use a stock ROM vs modified ROM as you wrote that you do not have HardSPL on your Topaz.
Once you have successfully reflashed using stock ROM do a hard reset and then install HardSPL 1.83.
Good luck

Still need help!!
Ok guys,
Let me explain you what happened:
None of the instructions above worked...
Can´t put on bootloader, hard reset nothing happens
When connected to wall charger amber led is on, if I press power button led turns off and vibrates, then led turns on again but nothing else happens.
Pressed down vol and power = Nothing happens
Pressed up/down vol and power = nothing happens
EDIT: Connected to PC and automatuically installed a qualcomm driver not detected also by WMDC
Disconnected from PC then connected again to wall charger and now amber led not turns on....
Please help!!
Any other advice please!
I really don´t know what else to do
Thanks in advance for taking your time on this thread
Per your PM, I'll certainly help you if I can.
Do you happen to know what caused it to brick? This will help determine how to bring it back. Did you attempt to flash a custom ROM w/o HSPL?
I am not an expert on this but have seen some chefs claim they can bring back a bricked device.
There is a program called MTTY that can usually get your phone to connect to your PC and there are functions to run in that program that can get it to a flashable state so you can reflash your shipped ROM.
Also search the Wiki for restoring bricked device, regardless of the model, it should be the same process. I think I have seen this in the Tilt(Kaiser) forum and maybe in the Fuze (Raphael) forum.
I haven't used this program in a while so I forget the commands but you should be able to find them in a search.
In the meantime I'll do a little research too and see what I can find out.
The main thing we need to accomplish is getting you back into bootloader mode.
1. Here is a link for recovering a Hermes and it has info on mtty.
Thanks a lot Bruce,
I have the original ROM and my Topaz is the unbranded model.
I was just trying to change language but battery was too low, then it turned of and you know the rest of the story.
I have it SIM unlocked but not hardspl´ed and I was not doing any ROM upgrade or so...
I´ll try to use MTTY and find about your recommendations, later report back.
I appreciate a lot your reply!
Cheers,
EDIT: Tested MTTY but in some point says "power on the unit " but that is what I can´t do, nothing happens
Will continue testing and searching...
This is from the Wiki. It may help. Says to use PUTTY instead of MTTY... with instructions.
Another thread on recovering device.

Thanks Bruce,
I went through both links but nothing...
The main prob is that I can´t even make it turn on...
Now when wall charger is plugged I do not have the charging led on, so I am really lost...
I do not have another battery to test but I don´t think is that because Topaz is almost new!
But Now I think it´s not charging the battery...
Hope any other idea can save me
If it is almost new try to send it to warranty!if it has the original hspl no prob then!is better then trying to reapair youself, with the cost of loosing warranty!
Good luck with that!!!
Thanks, but I do not have that option
I have high hopes with all the great team of XDA!
first thing first, you have to have power in your phone.....borrow the battery from someone or recharge your battery in somebody else's phone.......then try to go in to bootloader mode (volume button down and power button)..........

Yep!
I ordered today another battery
Soon as I get it will report back.
Thanks,
Maybe this will help
It happened to me once. Nothing seemed to work. What did work, I left the phone charging for a day. First take ou the battery for at least a minute. Put it back on. Then connect the wall charger to the phone and let it charge. Hope this will help.
When it happened to me the LED wasn't working either, just connect the charger and let it charge.
Thanks,
I done that yesterday and left it all night but nothing...
I really hope is a battery problem, I´ll find out soon as I receive my new one
wrong place
Exactly samething happened to me.. the only difference was that I was using google maps and connected to my car charger. It somehow didn't charge and ran out of power and kept restarting whenever I tried to charge from a wall-socket.
This is what i did... worked for me.
Take out the battery from the back
Hold down the power button for at least 30 seconds to drain out the static charge.
Take out the sim
Plug in the USB to the phone (without the battery and without the sim)
With the phone connected, press the Red button at the back (soft reset)
Unplug the phone from the charger
Put the battery back in
Connect the USB to charge
Cross your fingers and say a lil prayer
Wait for 30 minutes
Turn it back on.
Lemme know how that goes 4 u
Thanks
I done all your procedure but after this point: [*]Connect the USB to charge
Led charging light did not turned on...
By now my only chance is to test with a new battery (which I will receive on thursday), but I do not have too many hopes as the device is almost new
I´ll report back on friday.
Thanks to all and I will be happy to receive any other suggestion
So I've gotten the hard reset bug, and I'm working on fixing it up myself. (RM-821 Telstra AU)
I've got nokia care suite all setup and ready to go, but the phone WON'T FLASH.
When it comes up asking me to hold down the buttons etc etc etc I hold power and volume down, press the retry button, wait for the vibration, take my fingers off power and volume down and put my finger on volume up.
By my phone just goes back into the lightning bolt/gear mode thing.
One thing I've noticed is that after the vibration my computer does the dundundun USB connection sound that usually means the USB device inserted isn't understood, instead of the dunDUN one that usually means success. (weird explanation but I think it works)
Thanks for any help, guys. I really need to get this thing going again.
Edit:
One extra piece of information would be that if I try to let it boot normally now, it shows the unsufficient battery icon after the carrier symbol. If I leave it there while chargin though, it eventually goes as far as the black NOKIA screen and won't charge.
Update; Rangercaptain and 440bro suggested the power switch or the usb port may be the problem.
I dismantled the phone and got my ohm-meter, the power button's circuit is opening and closing as it should between pressed and depressed.
Furthermore I tested the usb port for conductivity at each pin, from the side of the usb cable that would normally connect to the pc all the way through the 'charging flex ribbon' to the phones PCB. all connections are good.
Editing this post as I try new things i find or the things i try that people suggest.
Currently my Note will not boot into recovery or it's ROM, I was running a version of Slimbean.
I can get it to go into download mode via the volume down + power key but I can not for life of me get any pc to recognize it via usb.
I have tried Odin, Adb, and Heimdall with five or six different versions of Samsung USB drivers, Version #'s 1.5.14.0, 1.4.6.0, as well as the drivers listed in the Note 'Super thread' ATT I717 v1_3_2200_0 and two other sets of drivers that did not have version numbers listed, but came from other XDA USB problem posts. I have also tried the Google drivers from the Android SDK.
I have done all this on two different pc's and different usb cables. I've read other problem threads about this and tried most of those suggestions I.E. Uninstall old drivers, reboot, install new ones, reboot, turn off internet, plug in phone. Nada, no sign of the device being recognized at all.
I've tried the 'adb devices' command while the device was in download mode, the command returns nothing.
the USB port still works so far as i can tell, if you plug it in to a charger or the pc the phone will try to boot like it usually does if it's powered off and you plug it in and the phone had been charging fine before this issue, so i've no reason to suspect a bad port.
I have however encountered this USB problem before even while the note was stock and functioning with it not being recognizable over USB, I eventually gave up and it's what caused me to install a ROM on it in the first place because i couldn't get the official android updates with Kies (they require a usb connection).
Would a USB jig be of any benefit in this situation? After searching through XDA forums and the like that's the only thing that seems like it may work but i haven't tried. I'm unclear if it will be of any benefit because the device can already access the ODIN downloading screen.
All in all I've been working on this for about 12 hours so far, so it's possible i may have forgotten something I've tried but i'll update if i remember anything significant.
Finally I'm aware there are two similar threads currently running on the XDA note troubleshooting forums,"Is my note bricked?" and "can't enter download mode" I am also watching them and trying anything that looks relevant but elected to make a new post as my problem is slightly different in that I can access the download screen. If you posted anything there that you think may have applied here, you don't have to re-post. I'll have tried it.

Thanks, I should clarify that the reboot cycle is not indefinite though. it'll give the boot vibration 6-8 times with a few seconds in between each vibration and then stop trying to boot. It also doesn't cycle every time, just occasionally. The other times it will give the vibration only once and then do nothing till you hold the power button down again as if you were trying to turn it on.
It will also stay in the downloading mode until i manually hold the power button down, so the power button is functioning correctly.

If you say so.
Take out the sim and sd card.
I have tried removing the SD card and SIM card as well. Makes no noticeable difference.
I can also add that the USB port still works so far as i can tell, if you plug it in to a charger or the pc the phone will try to boot like it usually does if it's powered off and you plug it in.
I can dismantle the phone and check the power button if you're fairly convinced that's what it is but it really responds exactly like you would expect. The press and return feels fine and the way the device responds to it also feels fine.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a stuck power button. If the phone is off and you plug in usb, or charger it should NOT startup by itself. If it does it's most definitely a stuck power button. So I'm guessing your phone is no longer covered by warranty?
Before you go tearing apart the phone try this first. Take off the battery cover and where the power button is you'll see a lil outline. Flick this area with your finger a few times. Flick it hard enough to mildly hurt your finger but not the phone. I had to do this for a while till I got a new note. If that doesn't help take it apart at your own risk.

It has always started up on its own when you plug it in, at least if it's out of charge. Of that I'm certain. I've had the phone a year and a half or so now. It may not boot up on it's own if you just manually shut it off and plug in a charger though. I don't recall ever trying that scenario directly. It could also be a functionality Slimbean added if stock phones don't do it.
I did just try your flick trick though, thanks. No change.
Just as another example on the power button, I can take the battery out and put it back in and the phone will do nothing until i hold the power button down a few seconds, only then does it do the the "i'm trying to boot" vibration.
Damn I was really hoping the flick trick worked for you like it did me. If you decide to take the back of the phone off, try flicking again anyways before you completely disassemble it. Once you disassemble it, there really isn't much you can do power button wise other than replace it. I'll attach a pic of the power button area for ya. I have one already torn down.
If it's not your power button, I wonder if it's your usb charger port on the phone.... That's an easier part to replace if it is.
I do feel like the USB port is a possibility, even despite my saying it appears to work. is it possible for the port to be damaged in such a way that it still allows the phone to be charged but not establish a data connection? When the phone went brick yesterday It had pretty much just finished fully charging. I had disconnected it from the charger used it a little bit, set it down when it still at about 98% battery life. Around 10 minutes later I got a text message, it made the god awful slimbean text tone (i hate that tone) I went to check it, turned on the display it then repeated the incoming text message tone about five more times in quick succession, locked up, and then died never to return.
I have had the phone apart before because i'm a curious cat, and didn't really mind voiding a warranty.
The only things that would make me skeptical of it being a usb port problem is. 1: It was charging fine and 2: the symptoms at least of the reboot problem itself are leaning towards a software issue the Slimbean install has never really worked great, and would crash and reboot probably twice a day.
Just because the button works doesn't mean it isn't stuck. I've only saved about ten phones by helping the owner to understand the cause of the reboots.
The fact that you already opened the phone increases the chance its the button. Because you said it rebooted on stock or custom ROMs eliminated software. Because your phone charges normally and is recognized by a pc shows its not the usb port.
But hey, what do I know. . .

He has more than one problem. He can NOT get a pc to recognize it. I missed it first too and had to re-read it a few times. So it could be the port, or the power button.
I think your options are....
-Find a repair center nearby
-Send it in for repair
-Find out which part is cheaper and replace that yourself first.
Sounds good. The usb port is cheap and easy and while the bezel is off you can verify the power button isn't stuck in its hole in the bezel.
Because he flashed a custom ROM from a stock ROM I took that to mean he had to connect to a pc through the usb port, either to Odin flash a recovery or Odin flash Slimbean. And he can still charge it. And data cables go bad, removing drivers doesn't take them out of memory, etc. So usb port isn't 100% bad for sure, but you're right, its a cheap, easy repair.

If the button is 'stuck' it implies that the it's either stuck engaged or disengaged correct?
If that were true and lets say it were stuck engaged, the power button should be acting as if it is pressed. Which at first would make sense when i say it reboot cycles. It however does not make sense that i can get into download mode and the phone never shuts off until I hit the power button.
It also does not make sense that if i pull the battery out and put it back in the phone does nothing. until i hit the power button. If it were stuck engaged the phone would immediately try to boot when i put the battery back in.
The rom has also been on it for awhile now, 6 months? So i don't exactly remember the processes i went through but i know i never got kies or odin to recognize it. And Yeah, pc wont recognize it now even tryin two different pcs, one of which has never had a samsung device connected to it.
That said I wont rule the power button out either, Is there a good way to check the power button with a multimeter?
I should also say I have the phone apart now so i could at least do external checks of the power button since you both thought it was a possibility, externally it looks fine the actual button inside the case (the little white button the big silver one hits) acts fine but the circuit inside could still be screwed i suppose, which is why i ask about a meter test.
Ultimately I think you're both right though, I'm just going to have order a replacement button and port. Start with the port since it's easier, and if that doesn't enable me to connect it to the pc to flash it try the button too.
Since you mention the ROM, it is possible to have a bad download, flash the ROM, and get into a bootloop. The usual cure for that is a re-download of the ROM, wipe caches, wipe system, and flash fresh ROM.
The sticking power button is a common fault of Samsung phones. Its not broken, but it just gets a little out of alignment in its hole in the bezel. If you already wiggled and snapped, you would have noticed a difference in the phone's behavior, unless there's lint under it.
I think you have your plan -- replace the usb port, and check the button while the phone is without the bezel.
The usb port is on ebay and there is a Youtube video for the process. Everything is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28247335
Good luck.
Thanks for the Help Ranger and 440.

I'm going to try the phone tonight on a friends PC. Who doesn't have another note but at least has a Samsung Gs2 and 3 that connect to Kies and see if i can get it to establish a connection.
If anybody else has any ideas on troubleshooting the connection between the device and a PC i'm all ears.
Good luck!

Well interestingly, when i hooked it up to the friends pc (using one of the same usb cables i already had) not only did his pc recognize it, the phone also booted up immediately. with 15% battery life remaining.
Strange strange.
Hello everyone, I am having a strange problem with my HTC Droid DNA. I searched around and cannot find this problem anywhere else. Last night I noticed my phone was off and figured it had lost all charge so I plugged it in to charge, left it there for a few minutes and turned it on again. When I turned it on, it displayed the white htc boot screen, then turned off again and rebooted again to the white htc screen (this goes on and on). The strange thing is that this happens only when connected to the wall power outlet. When I connect it to my PC it powers on and works fine until I disconnect it (it turns off again when I do that). The other problem I notice is that even when the phone is on and connected to the PC, it does not reproduce any sound at all (no ringtone, music, does not play videos, etc..). Also, my phone is STOCK and has never had any mods on it at all. It has android 4.1.1, software version 2.04.605.271ORD, KERNEL 3.4.10-GA02D2C6 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT, BASEBAND 1.01.01.01 10
Has anyone ever had this problem or know how to fix this? I would be forever grateful if you guys could help me with this...

Troubleshooting the Phone : I Understand that you are not Rooted, locked, and s-on .
1- Call vzw tech support and ask for a replacement. But Do first before call VZW a Reset Phone*. ( setting>back up & Reset>reset phone )
2- are you with Verizon Wireless, if so you should be notified for a new OTA Update available (you are outdated with software 2.04 )
however it should not prevent the phone to run well.
3- Are you using the original usb cable when connect the phone to the power wall outlet ( have you check the outlet power supply if it is good)
4- are you able to charge your phone on your Computer through usb cable. (try different USB port)

You could always try this:
adb reboot bootloader > bootloader> factory reset
That might clear anything that messed up. seeing as youve never done anything to it, it just might work.

Hello and thank you for all for your help. Just so you guys know, the phone does charge when plugged in to my computer, I am using the original usb cable and power outlet, I am not with Verizon or in USA ( I bought the phone through ebay and unlocked). I tried every solution that has been posted by everyone so far and nothing. I do not have such advanced levels of adb, but I followed the guide to installing adb and reseting back to factory did not work. The phone has 100% battery level but once I remove it from the computer, the phone screen goes black, I can tell the screen is still on but everything goes black, then the htc white boot screen appears, it goes black again and it loops between the htc white boot screen and black screen on and on. Is this a software issue? Or is it possible it might be hardware (since no audio is able to be played either)?

Could be a hardware problem, hard to tell, perform a Factory reset*
copy your media files to the computer before Reset phone
From a Home screen, select Apps ( Apps icon located at the bottom).
Select Settings.
Note If the app icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
Select Backup & reset.
Select Reset phone.
Note If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
Select Reset phone.
Select OK.
Note Allow up to 10 minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.

Done all that and no success
I believe it's a hardware problem and the phone is probably under warranty so I would call htc tell them what's going on and see if they can help you out. It shouldn't be an issue.

Like I said before, I dont think I could get help if it were under warranty since i bought it used off ebay and have no receipt for it. Which part of the hardware do you think might be causing this problem? Maybe i could take a look and see the internals for my self...
..............................................
turn phone off and connect to a wall outlet then press and hold the power button while holding volume up and down and the same time for two minutes or until phone powers on htc says this can fix a magnitude of issues worth a try
I'll try that and will reply soon
thanks
it didn't work
Try this you guys. Turn off your phone completely and then just plug it into the wall charger. The orange charging led should turn on. Let it sit for about 2 hours or until it turns green. Then while keeping it connected turn on the phone.

I already did with no luck
how long have you had the device ? possible you bought a bad device unless over time these devices cant take the heat of the processor as this phone is beast and can easily die for heat or anything really a hard bump or fall can cause hardware issues
