Hi everyone. I have a Samung Vibrant, which for some reason T-Mobile doesn't allow to use their Data-Only plan. It's rooted but not unlocked. My question is: Can I make the device report that it's a different device to T-Mobile? For example, can I make T-Mobile think that my phone is an HTC HD2 (which is allowed to use the data-only plan)?
No one? Nothing?

Hi all. I have searched and cant find an answer to my specific Q.
I am thinking of getting an unbranded/unlocked SGS2 To use with my ATT sim, which has an unlimited data plan for $10....old grandfathered one.
I am presently using an HTC HD2, which is a smartphone that ATT never sold, therefore the non smartphone data rate.
If I were to buy an unbranded SGS2, would ATT be able, through the registering of the phones IMEI on their network, to change my data plan to the more expensive data plan? I guess the question boils down to, in addition to all the IMEI's that ATT has for the SGS2's that they sell and have a record of, would they also have a record of unbraded IMEI's?
Isn't this the reason there is an AT&T SGS2 because the International one doesn't fully support AT&T? Maybe ask the question in the AT&T SGS2 forums?
Didnt know that there was an ATT forum! Thanks. And, the International SGS2 supports ATTs 3G network on the 850 band. That is why I want one....fully international on 3G...850/900 and 2100.
Found my answer on the ATT thread....I think. Looks like ATT will not know the international SGS2 is a smartphone as they wont have the IMEI's, I think!
Thanks.
[Q] Is i9100 unlocked international version can be detected by network service AT&T?
Hi,
I am a Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250m (unlocked) user and I've been using the AT&T unlimited data plan for non-smartphone because it is cheaper than regular smartphone.
Before this phone, I have user international unlocked version of different android phones and never had any problem. Recently I got a call from AT&t saying that they have upgraded my data plan from $10 to $30 because according to their system, I am using a smartphone.
I know if I use data (other than wifi), they can know that I am using a smartphone but I never had any problem before (even when I had i9100 international version before this phone).
Now I am thinking to switch back to i9100 international unlocked and need your advise. Do you think that buying international unlocked version can help and might not get detected by network service provided sim card if its a smartphone ?
Based on my knowledge what I think is that network service will see the phone as long as its a US based phone and I think I never had this problem before because I was using international versions and now that I got google nexus unlocked directly from Google, it is a unlocked but still a US based phone (which is only available in US) and I think that's why network service provided is able to see it.
please advise ? Do you think buying a i9100 UK version or Canadian version or German etc will help ?
For my phone listed in title, am I able to work this onto a wireless carrier such as Wind Mobile? I'm not sure if the phone itself will work on their AWS network. Wind says they use 1700/2100. I'm trying to unlock my phone and see if this will be a useful move.
Link (for my phone specs AFAIK): gsmarena.com/samsung_vibrant-3416.php
Note: I know it's the vibrant model, but in Canada they renamed it differently for no reason.
Hi all. Soon (as soon as I end my mega carrier contract) I will be purchasing an unlocked HTC One M8 direct from HTC. I will use a nano simm from the new Cricket Wireless.
I believe this unlocked version is same as ATT&T sku. Buying unlocked, I can freely change carriers, and avoid a lot of bloat ware.
My question is, Is this the correct forum for that phone / carrier combination? I ask because I am sure I will be rooting, experimenting, etc.
Thank you all in advance!
It is and you'll find more in the international forums here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8
Roms on that forum will state whether they're safe to use on the AT&T version.
Anyone know what the deal is? I just started looking at these. I’m an AT&T user. It looks like ATT only has 128mb versions .... is this true? Can I get an “unlocked” 512mb S7+ device that I can use on ATT?
Let me ask another way .... have any of you that have cellular (not WiFi ) devices been able to use another carrier ? Are they locked to a particular carrier??

I haven't been able to find an unlocked US version, and my T-Mobile version is locked. I bought it directly from Samsung, though, so I should be able to request an unlock code from T-Mobile.
