[Q] Captivate ROM on a Vibrant? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I install a Captivate ROM on a Vibrant and get AT&T's 850MHz 3G? Or is it more hardware related?
I just like the look of the vibrant over the captivate...

High there. I have both the Captivate and a unlocked Vibrant on AT&T...I hate to say it but I believe the problem is hardware related.

Vibrant 3g vs Epic 4g

First off sorry if this has been both asked and answered already, but has anyone noticed that the Epic 4g software (2.1 firmware) seems to be lag free and runs a million times smoother than the Vibrant software out of the box? I'm even on stock 2.2 jk6 and still the Epic runs smoother on the stock 2.1 rom. Isn't the Epic 4g a Galaxy S phone? If so, why would the Epic 4g run smoother if the software and hardware (minus vga front camera, keyboard and led flash) are the same? Once again thanks and sorry if this has been answered in the past.

I hope no one is offended, upset, etc. hopefully someone has an answer/theory as to why the Epic's rom is faster than the Vibrant's.

No it will not work. We will never have true 4g on the vibrant. We are hardware limited and not software limited for 4g.

No, 4G radio does not work on the Vibrant. And as of now the 4G kernel will not allow data to work.
I think the OP is asking if the hardware could be swapped.
The answer is the same, though - not bloody likely.

Yep, but I hope someone eventually tries, if its even possible.
Now, could I flash a Vibrant 4G modem and get the 3G bands it supports? I am desperate trying to find a way to make the Vibrant work on 900Mhz or should there be no way, on 850Mhz(and switch carriers). I know the 4G supports 3G at 900Mhz... Is there any way to have either frequency running on this phone? What modem would I need?
Thanks!

Vibrant 4g modem

Couldn't a dev just pull the vibrant 4g modem and put it on the vibrant? And have the 4g speeds? The 4g is the EXACT same as the sys except 4g speeds and few others

Cannot... modem on our phones cannot support that.
They've already tried. It doesn't work.

It's not the Modem.bin, it's the hardware that prevents us from getting those speeds.
Bionix Frost
Dragon Kernel v5 Test4
maybe, just maybe...
yup, hardware not software issue. but question, can the modem in our vibrant be upgraded/removed and replaced with the galaxy s 4g's modem? has anyone considered this yet? also, has anyone tried to see if the galaxy s 4 g's battery will fit in our vibrant?
our modem is an SMD component (surface mount device). it's soldered onto the circuit board, unlike the ffc camera mod. it's not possible.

Pretty sure the battery is compatible. There are a few posts about it in accessories forum.

[Q] AOSP ROM for Vibrant 4G with Wifi Calling... Does it exist????

Hi guys, my poor mom has been sticking it out with the original MyTouch 3G ever since it came out in the summer of 09 and its time for her to upgrade.
I'm strongly considering the vibrant for her as it can be had for around $250, however I have noticed that the Vibrand 4G goes for nearly the same amount. Also every since the stupid ip0wn facetime came out she keeps telling me she want a front camera, not like shes ever gonna use it but hey, it my mum. So the Vibrant 4G makes the most sense. BTW, if your suggesting, neither one of us likes the Mytouch 4G..
Anyways, shes very used to the AOSP Froyo on her original MyTouch 3G and I dont want her to have to relearn crappy ass touchwiz. Is there an AOSP Rom out there, could be either Froyo or Gingerbread, doesnt matter, that includes wifi calling that is ported to the Vibrant 4G?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Im pretty sure there's almost nothing for the vibrant 4g but you can check their forum for sure.

you could try the g2 it comes stock android / aosp.
Edit : didn't read the op about ffc
EDIT2: There's a rom with no touchwiz with a gingerbread launcher.

Aosp + wifi calling + any form of the vibrant = nonexistent. There's no way around it.

[Q] Vibrant 4g?

Is there a rom that gives the Samsung vibrant 4g? I currently have my friends on 2.3.4 RevolutionRom. Thanks for input.
No, that is impossible due to the lack of a radio capable of 4g speeds
