My phone is doing something really strange. It's a little hard to explain, but I'll try:
When I touch the screen to i.e. open an app, the phone "touches" somewhere else on the screen (mostly to the left of where I'm touching, I think) and opens something else. It also keeps doing stuff by itself, so if I am trying to type an "a" in a text message, it will write 7-8 other letters, followed by 5 spaces or something. Once in a while I am able to hit whatever button I am aiming for.
This makes my phone impossible to use.
Some background:
I've had the phone for a little over a month.
I rooted it less than two weeks ago with the exploid method described in this forum. I installed titanium backup and used it to erase the pre-installed game demos. Didn't touch anything else.
I tried to change some wifi settings after rooting, but unplugged usb cable at the wrong time, so my phone died. After one hour of charging it booted again and seemed fine.
I updated it last week and lost root. Other than that, the phone seemed fine.
Today it started behaving as described above. I have not made any changes to it recently. It started doing this when I took it out of my pocket to answer a call. I tried SEUS repair. It didn't fix it...
So. What should I do now?
That sounds as if the screen's registering multiple touches (you get that sort of behaviour if you're accidentally touching the edge of the screen when you use it) - have you tried thoroughly cleaning the screen, in case dirt is upsetting it.
Otherwise, I'd do a SEUS repair back to factory default, and take it back to the shop you bought it from, asking for a replacement

I did a SEUS repair earlier today. Is it impossible to tell that the phone has been rooted after you do a repair?
Also, yes, I have tried cleaning the screen, lol
I'm sending it tomorrow. Can anyone answer this:
Do I have to do anything to hide the rooting of the phone? I have done the repair process with SEUS. Is it possible to see that the phone has been tinkered with?
Regards,
don`t worry .....after repair is not possible identify if phone was root or not ....
Ok. Thank you!

I noticed earlier today my phone kept freezing.
the phone HAS been freezing on me recently, at least once an hour
but now every 3 minutes it freezes or resets itself. I have missed a LOT of calls and ttext messages etc.
today has been a disaster. i havent even synced my numbers and contacts. what should I do?
if you haven't installed anything new or tweaked just before the problem started:
as usual - backup and hard reset...
There is a free program called "pim backup" that will backup all your contacts, messages and call log. Then you can do a hard reset.
my phone freezes before I can even back up anything. its the worst
now it seems like if my phone is plugged in and charging, it gives no problem, but as soon as I unplug it, frozen.
im going to try to find PIM backup to see what that can do
wow now I have a bigger problem now. my phone fell and the transcriber cracked so only part of the screen works with touch BUT that was before I hard reset the phone and now the screen align is appearing but I cant touch all of the targets
is there a way to bypass this?
When its at the align screen you can plug it into computer and connect with active sync. Delete the Welcome shortcut from Windows/startup and soft reset. That should skip the alignment. Sorry to hear about the phone. I have a couple moguls if interested PM me about it.
I am having the same issue he was before he cracked his screen up.
I get freezing whenever the phone goes into standby and it will only restart with 2 hits of the reset button. Also it is a coinflip as to whether it will actually start up fully or just keep soft reseting for an extended period without ever loading up fully.
Anyone have any incite or ideas. I am running a ppckitchen vs of windows mobile 6.5 now. It is a kitchen version with few added programs. However I also experienced something similar to this issue with Titan Reloaded 1.3.4 as well but it stopped so I never bothered looking into it. Now this problem occurs about 10-15 times per day and it is frustrating. I am out of warranty and cant send my phone in because I replaced the housing myself.
Thanks
Dave
Also, I have US Cellular if you need to know that.
Thanks
Dave
I had the same problem kind of. Out of nowhere mine would lockup or freeze randomly. Usually after being in my pocket, after hitting all the buttons or squeezing it, it would work again (sometimes but usually after numerou reboots) but then lockup shortly after or flipping the case open and closed. Finally took the case off my phone and blew inside it today put it back together and havent had a lock up all day (1st time since i started havin the problem). It wasnt rom related as i had the same rom for a while, tried reflashing to different kinds of roms and radios but same random lockups. Somethin musta been loose
Well, I went to take my phone apart, probably the 8th or 9th time that I've done it and I ended up ripping the cable for the screen right off. So no more HTC for me for awhile. Unless of coarse someone wants to mail me a cable for free (im broke in college and my rent is due soon.) By judging by how easily the cable ripped I would bet the crease I found right by the rip had already had a slight tear in it.
Thanks for your help.
Dave
I did search before posting so please forgive me if I've overlooked anything...
So my screen keeps getting stuck sideways. I'll turn it sideways to type on the bigger keyboard, view a site, or view photos, and it will not turn back after. I can shake it like crazy and it sometimes goes back, but not always. It's also quite embarrassing to do this in public... So my solution for now is to go to the home screen, which usually sets it back upright. However this is also quite annoying to keep going back to the home screen.
This is actually my second Eris to do this. It first happened on the stock 1.5 firmware, so I returned the phone and it was replaced. I was told they have never seen this problem, but it happened again, after thirty days. I'm not sure I can return it as I declined insurance. I decided to try the 2.1 leak, and the problem is still there. Now I'm worried about taking it in because I have a leaked rom on it, and don't want to get in any trouble.
Oh, I also tried the G-Sensor calibration tool, but it seems to just switch which way my orientation is stuck. The phone is set to switch automatically when rotating, so that isn't the issue.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?
Did you try disabling and re-enabling the 'Automatic Screen Orientation' (or whatever it is...)?
I've tried that countless times. Doesn't do anything for me.. I called Verizon and their response was bring it in and they'll replace it. I'm still hesitant to try with a leaked rom though. I guess my only option is to wait for the official update at this point? Thanks for trying to help though.
you should still be covered under manufacturers warranty. EVEN IF THE PHONE GETS BRICKED YOU SHOULD STILL BE COVERED. you can try and do an update to the 2.1 official update and when u go to apply that follow the prompts. when it gets to where it starts installing, you will see what it says"
system - updating
at the bottom it will say "do not turn off phone" MAKE SURE YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THAT. and let it do the update. also when you reboot the phone after that, let it do a normal update BUT DO NOT PULL OUT AND PUT BACK IN THE SD CARD while it is rebooting. that could be bad as well and end up bricking the phone.
Thank you for the instructions. I'll be sure to try this when the official update arrives. Hopefully it doesn't take too much longer..
Edit: I decided to go ahead and take my phone to Verizon to see if I could get it replaced. The guy didn't say anything about 2.1 or didn't notice. They didn't have any in the store, so I'll have to wait 2 to 3 days, then send the old phone back with the package.
Screen orientation stuck ?
This happened to me after jail braking my Eris Driod. Was not sure how to fix it. But I stumbled on to a fix that worked for me. Here it is. In display options using the G-Sensor calibration. I always did this holding my Driod upright on a level surface. It worked just fine. Then I started having problems and no matter how many time I did the calibration – My screen still would get stuck. Then I tried doing the calibration with lying my Driod flat on a level surface and that did it. Not sure why but I really don’t care – it just works. Good luck !
Hi,
I've just joined after getting linked to this site. Seems like a huge site with plenty of info but unfortunately after a few searches I haven't been able to figure out my problem.
I recently followed a guide on here for replacing the digitizer on my xperia x10 and I followed it to the letter. After re-assembling the phone it refuses to switch on and there is no response when I connect the charger.
A little history.....
The problem started when I dropped the phone in water. I know I have been told that it would never be right again etc etc but I did everything I could to dry the phone and for a couple of months after the incident the phone would switch on and display perfectly and the buttons would work fine also. The only problem was that the touch wouldn't work rendering the phone useless as I couldn't even unlock the screen.
Anyway, every now and again I would switch the phone on again to cHeck if it had made a miraculous recovery but no joy. After asking some questions I decided to replace the screen/digitizer. I remember the last time I tried switching the phone on a few days before taking it apart it wouldn't switch on. It simply gave out a few flashes from the LED. I put this down to the battery being dead and carried on replacing the digitizer.
The only response I get from the phone now is when the charger is connected to my laptop and I remove the battery, the LED gives out a red flash every 2-3 seconds. Although this doesn't happen all the time. Most of the time I get nothing at all. I must add that I did charge the phone at least once or twice successfully after the water incedent so something else must be causing this.
I have heard of issue with these phones not charging but I don't see why this would happen to mine if it wasn't even being used. The phone was only a month or two old when damaged.
Sorry for the long winded introduction and if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate hearing them.
Thanks,
Gav.
anyone had any similar problems to this before?
I know this is an old thread, BUT my X10 won't switch on either now :/ not dropped it ever and ive never got it wet, i turned it off due to it being laggy and unresponsive and now it won't turn on :/ no ROM's not rooted just stock anyone have a fix ? and no i have tried putting it in the computer for the SEUS to fix it but nothing unresponsive
Greetings, I would like to beg your pardon as English is not my native language, however, I will try to describe my problem as best as I could. Also, I already browse previous postings without avail to find my specific problem.
Background
My XZU is c6802 version with Lollipop, updated via PC Companion the day after the official announcement. There were no significant problem after the update, aside the battery that I felt drained faster than prior, barely noticeable though.
The Problem
That was until today. This morning I was using Chrome to do some online banking transaction when suddenly it froze, although from the beginning of my transaction I felt that the browser acting strange, namely it took longer time than usual to process.
After it froze I restart the device using the power button. The screen went blank as per usual restart process, but it never went on again.
At first I thought the battery was empty so I connect my magnetic charger, nothing happens. Unplug it and charge it via the micro usb plug, still nothing happens. I leave it for a while before I tried to switch it on again, but still, nothing happens.
(I'm aware curiouso9 posted about the bug on his stock Lollipop resulting similar problem as mine. However in my case, my phone stayed off without any response even when I try to call it)
I covered the whole screen with both hands and try to take a peek and I'm quite sure I could see a faint light emitted from the edges of the screen (vertical sides when in landscape orientation).
Afterward I try to connect it to my PC and it gave "USB not recognized" message.
Could anyone be kind enough to help me in this problem? I'm a bit reluctant to go to the local Sony Center as it means handing them my device for god knows how long without any guarantee that the problem will be solved.
I would like to thank you in advance for anyone who could spend a bit of their time to respond to this request.

Your battery is dead, you must go to Sony Centre, no other way to recover your phone
Your battery have overloaded your Motherboard, Sony must replace motherboard with new one
Have you guarantee?
Play stupid on Sony support and they will repair your Z Ultra

Really? Wow, never thought of that seeing people in here have their XZU for quite a while without meaningful problem. I guess I still have the warranty (not quite sure thought, it should be expired around this time).
Thanks the-cortana-project, guess I'll have to go to the local Center then.
Got a unique issue with my G5. Have had it in a Lifeproof case for awhile now.
Last night, it spent most of the time riding in my back jeans pocket where it always does. I've had zero issues with sitting in the car, and whatnot....as I'm not a hipster that wears tight jeans that could possibly damage the device. Anywho, I got out of the car, dropped the phone into my pocket, and went about my evening at work - which involved ZERO sitting.
I go to pull out the device to make a call, verify my fingerprint, and nothing. Well, almost nothing. Its as if half of my screen is "disconnected", and the other half is out of sync. I've attached a youtube video to see what I'm talking about. ( https://youtu.be/357GcnV2-9Y ) My first thought was the ribbon cable became partially dislodged from its plug on the motherboard. I first tried flexing the phone, to see if it magically worked, or changed. Nada.
This am, brought it to the VZW store, expecting a quick fix, but since it shows no damage at all I got nothing but a warranty replacement request, and a promise it would be delivered within 3 days. Thats not good enough, as I use this thing for work. So I looked at alternatives...
I've browsed the teardown on ifixit, and was surprised at its simplicity. I pulled it apart, and re-seated the display ribbon cable, to no avail. Still apparently toast.
I've managed to get through the boot up pattern security I set up, and the phone is active. I just cant get it into MTP mode to copy my crap as I'm guessing I need to pull down and click on the notification to switch it.....which, of course, I cannot see. Basically, I just want to get my crap out of the internal storage before I ship this one back. Obviously I'm going to wipe it with the Android Device Manager before I deactivate, but still would like to salvage something.
Anybody have any thoughts? Or maybe is there a second ribbon cable somewhere that wasnt mentioned in the teardown?

I have no advice as to how to get your files off, I'm sorry about that.
But I wanted to confirm that this isn't an isolated occurrence and it happened to me! I also babied my phone and never dropped it and it was always in a case.
I don't know what to blame as the cause, I'm hoping just bad quality control. I was hoping it's not due to flexing because it's not as sturdy due to the bottom of the phone not being physically attached.
Photos of the same thing on mine: https://imgur.com/a/eEAmA
This happened 15 days after I bought it and Best Buy returned it for a new one which three weeks later started bootlooping which was a whole fiasco to get repaired and took over a month. LG's quality control is horrible.
+1 as I am having this issue on a Sprint G5, sent to LG for repair after Sprint was no help. 29 days after purchase.
Hello. A few quick searches on my part found a thread here on the forums for controlling your device from your PC. It also includes a script to run when your phone is in recovery to enable USB Debugging. Try it out ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395 ). Hopefully I have helped. If you want to just salvage files, you can enable USB Debugging and pull everything through the USB. However, if you want to still use your apps, or harvest app data, or even use titanium backup or the like to make a complete backup to transfer to the new device, enable USB Debugging, then control your phone. Follow the above thread's instructions to do so.
Thank you for your time,
Xzanah
