[Q] PRoblem Flashing ROMS - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So excuse me in advanced and I've been searching pretty extensively to no avail.
I have an HD2 and a samsung vibrant, I've rooted the vibrant using one click root. I put on ROM manager and downloaded eugenes eclair build, put the vibrant9.zip on the micro SD card and went into rom manager to install it, it then says "no such file or directory" and then eventually does nothing. I've tried flashing other builds and also tried flashing the stock kernel, all with the same results.
I know I'm just missing something stupid, and apologize if its painfully obvious. I just need a couple you genuises to help me fix it
tl;dr rooted phone wont flash rom "no such file or directory..." ?

You need to put the file on the phones internal storage not the sdcard.

[Q] Update.zip

I recently rooted my eris with the 1 click root app. No problem, everything went great. I was able to flash a rom and my phone works perfectly. But, I went to partition the SD card, and found that I must have deleted the update.zip file. Is there any way to replace\recreate this? I am running GSB 3.0

i would like to ask what the update.zip is for im pretty sure you only get them with clockworkmod recovery which i dont use but whats`the update.zip about is it a backup? haha im sorry i cant answer your question but firgured id threw this question in the mix casue i was wondering what it is
The upgrade.zip was created when I rooted my phone. I erased it , thinking that I didn't need it. When I tried to partition my SD card, I got an error telling me that it couldn't find my upgrade.zip file.

If you rooted with 1-click, I think that you are talking about rootme.zip. You only need to flash that if you root and continue to run the stock Eris build - it adds the Superuser app and a few other little things that are included with any custom ROM that you would install.
You can get it back if you really want it by running 1-click again, I would think. But if you are installing a custom ROM, you do not need it.

[Q] Internal Storage Problems after Stock Reset

Hi all,
I used Heimdall this morning to try and put the CyanogenMod ROM on my Fascinate. I think I must have tried flashing with insufficient files, because the next thing I know my phone is back to factory with everything gone D: I tried to use Heimdall again, this time explicitly with the files from the ED05 FROYO tar going around. Using both the default recovery and the ClockworkMod recovery, I can get to the screen that asks you to wipe/load update.zip and all, but when I try to wipe I get access errors and the inability to mount various directories. The end result is that the phone tells me it has no internal storage space available, I cannot install apps, and I keep getting errors in twlauncher.
If anyone can help or point me in the direction I need to go to remedy this, I would be most appreciative. I can walk you through the steps I've taken since flashing with the ED05 kernel and all, but I cannot find where exactly I messed up in the first place. Thanks.

Can't Flash Roms or zip files in CWM...Need help

The problem started when after I flashed the recovery with Odin. When I booted into the recovery and tried to install the superuser zip file I keep getting this message: "E:cant copy META-INF/google/android/update-binary". I get this message when I try to flash a Rom: "E:Can't open /sdcard/update-unamed-1.3.1-full.zip". I've been trying to flash the CM7 nightlies and the "Unamed" Rom. Any help with this will be much appreciated.
Also, I ended up having to install superuser via SuperOneClick
Honestly, I stopped trying after the phone kept confusing me with SD Card, External Card, and Internal Card/External SD Card BS it was giving me.
I just left my phone rooted, lol.
Sometimes, this tends to happen if you rooted your phone with an anti-virus software running on your PC which can hinder the rooting process. (always the case with my HTC Inspire 4G). So turning it off could allow you to re-download Odin, and run the program again to root it again so it can install the proper files.
Once you get it re-rooted, get into CWM, do a backup, and Clear your Cache, Data and reinstall the ROM from your Internal Card or External Card (which ever you used to place the ROM in).
Good luck.

CWM and root are not even related....
root is root access to your OS /system and its functions. it has nothing to do with RECOVERY or anything outside of a RUNNING OS. i wish everyone would understand that.
as long as CWM is there, AND WORKING PROPERLY, rooting has nothing to do with it. you can flash a new rom from bone stock OS, as long as you have the CWM kernel.
@OP, you have these files (roms) located on the INTERNAL SD right?
I think that's why @homescrub said:
"and run the program again to root it again so it can install the proper files."
Proper files being cwm. As of yet I don't know of a way to install cwm without root on this phone. I know the captivate previously allowed an update to be flashed using stock recovery to get cwm.

Are you clearing your cache before trying to flash zip from sd card? I know I got a similar problem when I didn't clear cache.

how do you flash CWM?
through ODIN
that does NOT require root. you dont flash it via ROM manager....so whats the need for root to add CWM?
and what is this 'proper files' crap? you either have CWM or you dont, its not half-assed
nah its cool. im done here. i will let the misinformation fly. let the noobs run in circles. this website is going to **** so fast these days.
No man ....you should help these guys....just lighten up...and I apologize for coming off like that.....and one place I CAN understand is seeing what's going on in the forums....it is chaos sometimes.....I am just tired of seeing noobs who need help get ripped up.....just as much as I am tired seeing noobs posting +1 and Great Job, in the Dev forums. I just think this is the place to help them get a good understanding so there is not another new thread with this same question.

[Q] Need advice on rooting

Hello guys,
I have always played around with ROMs until today an OTA updater bricked my phone. Didn't even go into recovery. I am not an expert but I am not a noob either. After researching and following plenty of instructions, I have got to a point where I have stock ICS 4.0.4 on the XXLQ6 baseband. I was looking for instructions on how to get back my root so I can go back to my original ROM and I came across this helpful thread: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794)
However, when I am asked to flash certain file, the stock Android recovery for this stock Samsung ROM says that "sdcard" cannot be mounted because such directory does not exist. I have never had an external SD card installed ever so I don't think that should be a limiting factor. I went into my file explorer and I can see 'sdcard' no problem with all my old stuff in it (internal storage).
So my question is -- how can I get around to installing root back into my SGS2 i9100 in these circumstances? Thank you guys, I simply hit a dead end.
Edit: Kernel is: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPU-CL975203 and Build Number IMM76D.XWLPU
If you're talking about method 1 of that thread, you NEED an external SD card. It's states so right in the post. Just get a cheap one. You can probably find a small one for a few bucks.

Try this ROOT method: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Note:
-You are running ICS 4.0.4 Firmware which is known to have the SUPER BRICK BUG on it's stock kernel.
-Please flash a custom kernel immediately, e.g Siyah, speedmod, dream or Dorimanx kernel.
-Do not try any wipe or nandroid backup in CWM recovery before flashing a custom kernel
- It's better to be safe than sorry
You have been warned
Swyped from my Galaxy SII
Thank you, guys. I have done both of the things you said. A friend gave me an SD card and I could move it there and flash it. Now I will try Siyah. Cheers.

[Q] Plz help, i think my internal memory got corrupted

Hi, i'm new at the forums, but this have been my first option for android related solutions and info for a long time ago, but i finally decided to join it.
Well, this is embarrasing, but my first post it's about a problem in my pretty new SGS3 GT-i9300 i got a couple of weeks ago.
The problem is..., well, i've been testing some roms as 2nd roms with the help of the Siyah kernel. I've done the basics things..., root my phone, install my first kernel (siyah...), killed the stock rom so i learned how to flash a new stock rom for my country without all the operator's junk, then i overclocked (just a bit only), then i started with the 2nd roms....
My first try was UltimaROM, pretty good but i wanted to test MIUI, no problem, i worked but i didn't like it completely since it deleted all the samsung goodies, so i tried to flash ihackers, no luck..., it wouldn't just boot. So i tried with FoxHound, the same thing. So just dissapointed, i came back to UltimaROM and installed it again as 2nd rom (all in just 2 days). Well, it worked ok but then i noticed a serious problem...
Since the last time, when i flashed UltimaROM with the 2nd Rom Utils from Siyah, i came back to the stock rom (1st rom) because i wanted to record the fireworks outside my home (because of new year ), but, the camera said "Error al grabar" and just closed..., then i remember a couple of random massages saying that i was running out of space in the internal memory, so i dicided to temporarily delete the 2nd rom (i've been so gross these two days...), and..., according to the 2nd rom utils from siyah, the 2nd rom was succesfely removed, but just to be sure, i fixed permissions (i did this everytime i tried to flash a new 2nd rom).
Now back to the stock rom, the camera problem not being able to record to the internal memory still there, but now, i looked into the internal memory with root explorer and there is a big folder named "ADM" with a...¡¿copy?! of the UltimaROM zip, which weights 1.5Gb, and i can't delete it, EVEN WORSE!, now a lot of random files and folders in the internal memory are "locked", i can't delete any of these, or even change permissions (my DCIM folder for example). I then tried the CWM option to "fix permissions", on the main CWM recovery as well as in the siyah 2nd rom utils recovery..., but all the same
Thinking that the internal memory file system got corrupted, i though that my best option was to flash the stock rom from samsung again, but this time with the option "Re-partition" checked. I tried it in Odin but...damn it..., it won't make it!, however, i can soft-flash the stock rom without "re-partition" check..., but this doesn't fix the internal memory...
In short, i CAN boot into my main stock rom, i can FLASH the stock rom trough Odin but i can't if i check the Re-partition option, and until i get i fix for the internal memory, i'll have to use my 2Gb External SD Card.....
So..., what can i do? Is there anything i can do to safely format the internal emmc completely and then flash the stock rom again? Or maybe do i have to...assume...that the locked internal memory problem...is a hardware problem? That's what i'm afraid of...
Anyway, i'll leave the details here.
OS: Stock Rom Samsung JB 4.1.2 (I9300UBEMH2_I9300UVOEMH1_ARO)
Kernel: Siyah Kernel 1.9.1
Recovery: CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4 CF-v1.5
I would leave a dump file of the failing Odin process now, but i don't know if that is possible and neither how to do it. But he most i can give is a screenshot attached.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks JellyYogurt, Yeah, i tried it as one of my first options, even with root permissions
Now, i'm really REALLY consufed...maybe, can Android get stuck for periods and lock access to some files? because after a while, i came back to take a screenshot in windows showing me a "Read-Only" mode error when trying to delete those damn files, at least, that's what said to me before, because now i connected in MTP as usual and the things i tried to delete with error earlier are...gone? I don't get it yet, and i'm hope it won't happen again, maybe tomorrow i'll try reflashing again
If the problem happens to vanish, i'll let you know so u can delete this post, just give a couple of days, i want to make sure i can make a full reflash with repartitioning in case of future emergencies
Thanks again! Really
Well, it looks like the MTP lied to me, i checked inside /sdcard/ again and the locked files still there and locked :/, i tried again mounting as R/W with no luck. When i try to take a screenshot with power + home, it says that the usb storage could be ON...this is weird, i double check my usb mass storage app and swtich to usb mass storage mode and then back to mtp (i know it's only for the extSdCard...but i don't know what else can i do)
Any ideas plz? Thanks again

Have u tried a factory reset? Copy paste all ur pics and data to the computer first as u seem to be able to do so.
Well, i tried and tried and let me say this an awful way to begin the year :crying:
I tried using doing the factory reset from within CWM and apparently all was succesful, but again in android, the internal /sdcard/ still the same, it didn't delete anything that my settings!
Now i can't avoid being a bit desperate, is there any way to format the internal /sdcard/ (or /sdcard0/, whatever) so i can start from scratch again? In fact i don't have anything useful in there, 'cause i made a full backup 4 days ago before this problem even appeared. Now i would just be fine if i could format the internal /sdcard/, just that..., i tried the "format /sdcard" option from within CWM...but it formatted the external sdcard, what a mess
I'll be waiting, thanks again!
Use philz recovery instead, format internal sd card, wipe for new rom.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
You are just a master! I tried flashing a Philz recovery via Odin and, like you told me, i formatted the internal /sdcard/, then without exitting the recovery, i check inside the sdcard with the "install zip" option, and it says "No files found", i would never have imagined how beautiful would those words look .
Now, just to make sure, i would like to repartition with odin, and (at least for now) come back to my stock rom, but the problem i mentioned earlier about "can't open file" when i tried to repartition, was because i missed the .pit file hehe
So i searched for the .pit file for the S3 16GB edition and i found it, in the corresponding forum, they said that the .pit file ending in 329 worked good for all of them.
Now with all in hand, i powered on in Download mode, opened Odin v3 once more, selected Re-partition, choosed the .pit file (ending in 329) and the stock rom .md5, flashed, waited 10min and..., no errors, until i saw the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" problem, so i flashed again the Philz Touch recovery over the stock one (because when i tried to access the stock recovery the error always appeared), so fine! I booted into Philz and wiped cache, data and...it's so beautiful...:crying:, Android finally started! As if it were just when i bought the S3
So, i fixed it finally! I think the only thing that remains is to reset the counter with TriangleAway and get back my last backup
Thank you so much friend! At the end, i'll stay with Philz Recovery, i didn't know it before but is far better than CWM. Thanks again!
P.D.: now that i know how to unbrick completely, i'll tell my journey to my friend Dany
