[Q]Vibrant stucked on boot after flashing with stock 2.1 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i bought this mobile on ebay cheap,it has cracked digitizer.I flashed it with stock 2.1 and tried official fw but it stucks on vibrant screen. It goes in download with no problem.Does anybody have europe fw files for odin3,pda csc and phone, also pit? Thanks people, forum rules!
flash files are from xda forum, vibant subforum, vibrant is t mobile usa,i'm from Europe
Just found that has a marked water label red on phone and battery:-(
I have put galaxy s fw on it,latest with froyo 2.2,and stucks again, now it's working bottom four buttons.
Could someone help?I have dissasembled phone and cleaned contacts...
pic where it stucks

Wouldn't recommend flashing US Vibrant to EU fw. Tried it myself yesterday, and after a lot of trouble I got it to boot. However, the home and back-key now work as one, needless to say it's very irritating (multitasking doesn't work for example). I'm flashing back to US fw as soon as I get home.

Tried with 5 different firmwares,3 were from I9000 and nothing,it just stucks on vibrant sign.Does anybody know how to change bootloader or something cuz this is driving me crazy.I know phohe hardware is ok...anybody?

Why don't you try to flash in stock TMO USA firmware. Search for T959UVJFD and s1_odin_20100512.pit
If it works then just SIM unlock it and use it that way until you find something better.
At least the phone will be usable.

Tried that,i flashed with T959UVJFD and s1_odin_20100512.pit,but phone doesn't goes any further than vibrant sign.Is there a way to change bootloader?
edit:same thing is with captivate rom,it goes till at&t picture with white background and stay's that....i'm going for smokes, can't take it anymore

The phone has 2 boot loaders.
The first one is the PBL. Some people call it primary. Samsung call it primitive. This is ok on your phone because you are able to see vibrant screen.
Second one is SBL /Second boot loader/. You can flash it using odin. All you need is to add the proper sbl.bin file to the T959UVJFD.tar file. I doubt you need to flash the SBL on your phone. The fact you can use odin to flash the device means your PBL and SBL are ok.
On your first post you mention something about water damage. You may have a real hardware problem.

I'm aware that i could have a real hardware problem, but i wanna go through all to confirm this is 100%.I can see that T959UVJFD has no sbl.bin in odin.Does somebody have maybe this file to share?
Thanks Gad13 for information!
edit:Just opened all pda's i have flashed,noone has no sbl.bin

Keep in mind this is a very dangerous operation. Don't blame me if your phone become worse.
Here is my SBL. It is TMO USA.
Unzip sbl.bin and add it to the tar file. I usually use AllZip and drag and drop.
MD5 file is for you to verify the bin file.
One more time. Do you really want to try this?

Yes,i'm aware i flashed it but now i cannot go in download mode...is there a way of some jtag approach to this unit?

Sorry to hear that.
There is a JTAG thread going on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756988
What do you see on the screen?

Restart ur phone plugs ur usb on as soon as ur computer makes a sound use adb to reboot into ur recovery
Hope this help

vibrant brick pls help

hi all, i would like to ask you for a help with my vibrant. I just purchased it and successfully made the root and unlock. I managed to do both even tho my hardware button keys does not support the recovery mode. Any holding of the buttons will not allow the phone to go to recovery mode, this is not working even with an odin. After i did the root and unlock i downloaded the rom manager, created a clockwork image and back up i tried to make the partition of my 16gb SD card using the rom manager. After this my phone restarted but after t mobile logo and galaxy s logo the phone screen stays black. Tried all thee methods to go into the recovery mode but was not able to do it. i searched this forum also but was not able to find similar case to this one. i would be very thankful for any advice.
You'll have to get T-Mo to exchange it.

thanks to this instructions i was able to use odin but this did not change the satus of my phone?????
unfortunately cant i did not buy it in the store
NEVER use rom manager to partition your SD card. Try the steps in this thread
thank you, trying to do it now
a friend of mine bricked his phone and it boot up to the "S" screen then go black after a min. i flashed it using oden and the T959UVJFD file but i got the same results when trying to boot up again. it wasn't my phone and i had already sent the guy to get a new one, but i just started flashing it with all the vibrant oden roms i could find... non of them worked. i really didnt care any more so i was just playing around with the phone and flashed a i9000 rom, of corse it didnt work but when i flashed it back with the T959UVJFD file it worked.... i dont know if it would work out for you i just wanted to share the story... good luck
thank you, unfotunatelly i am stuck with HW keys problem againm!!!!
i follow the steps from the post 4 from @Alkaloid and now from dead i am at froyo and will hang here for a while cause at least for a week dont want to flash nothing. Boy what a day, 12 hours fixing this samsung!!!
Ivuso, how did you get in to download mode? I tried everything from every single thread here that mentions how to get in to download mode..
Odin is the way to go..it saved me too

You do not have to exchange it the same thing happened to me. You just need to use odin to flash the stock rom onto it. Its really easy. Youtube it
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
if you have the hardware keys lock the only way to get to download modwe is through odin. For me worked this.
start odin, fil pit and pda
remove battery
usb in the computer
hold volume buttons
put battery in - phone is showing just the battery charging status
disconnect usb and than fast connect back
now you are able to flash froyo from the the 4th post in this thread, once finished you will be in download mode but need to reboot with adb cause hardwate "enter" button will not work
GOODLUCK

[Q] I think I bricked my phone... need confirmation.

My problem is that I had no idea that i9000 and Fascinate are complete diffrent firmwares. I flashed the 2.2 i9000 onto my Fascinate, I didn't find out this was a huge FUBAR until after the phone wasn't turning on and then I did some extensive searching. So now flashed the CWMRecovery and then the Stock-i500 files. Except for the Recovery file which fails when I try to run it on Odin... I'm completely lost. If anyone knows if it's possible to fix my phone, I would appreciate the help
its bricked. is it still under warranty? tell them it froze and wont turn on. are u stuck in a boot loop?
It was.. it would try to boot up into i9000 then the regular Samsung logo and then I'd get a blue pixelated mess... now when I hit the power buitton there's a cell phone and PC picture with a triangled exclamation mark in the center.

Sounds like it wants to be hooked back up, like it's not out of download mode. That's happened to me when I've unplugged the USB cable when it wasn't expecting me to. Dunno, there is a thread here somewhere about flashing the wrong image, then flashing an intermediary image, then the VZW image and getting things back. Not sure if it applies here, though... Good luck...
Boot in Download mode again
Dont Use Samsung MicroUSB Cable use any Good Quality MicroUSB instead
Flash the Clockwory Kernal and Recovery using ODIN
Copy ClockworkMod Recovery in update.zip format to SDCard
Boot into Recovery in Default Samsung Recovery Apply Update this will take you to clockwork
Flash any Compatible Clean ROM and you are in business,For me this Worked
You see the cable / triangle icon, it means your flash failed to take, and was incomplete. You need to re-flash, start with the kernel. I would use the CWM kernel as mentioned. If that fails let us know.
The only real thing you can do to "brick" this phone is to overwrite bml12 (modem.bin). For example, if you flashed anything with the "phone" box in odin, that will kill your modem. Other than that it will take a little work, but it's all recoverable.
Ok. For one, i have posted warnings all over the place to not do what you did.
And two, if what you flashed an Odin restore file with a modem in it, you will no longer have a working phone. We don't have a way to fix it. Sorry dude, best bet is to take it back to verizon and beg for a warranty replacement. If you are at the phone and computer icon right now, i would just leave it and take it into vzw like that.

Yeah. Problem is this isn't the first site I went to. There were no warnings in the other guides... Just said "Upgrade Galaxy S to 2.2" It never mentioned it was only for the i9000 model... I've learned my lesson tho. Luckily my buddy works at Verizon and I don't have to jump through rings of fire to get a replacement. Thanks everyone

[Q] Samsung SGH-T959 - no gsm network after FroYo upgrade

Laidies and gentlemen,
Here is a problem.
I upgraded my Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S SGH-T959 from T-Mobile USA to Android 2.2 and now I can't pick up gsm network at all.
I tried roms JP3, JP3 and JPK. On first two I simply get a crossed circle in status bar. If I pull out sim the phone will not request it at all. If I put sim in and try to search for mobile network, it will not find any.
On JPK I get black screen after S logo and random vibrations.
I even tried JP3 rom with JPK modem and still no gsm/wcdma.
I also tried both PIT 512 for JP2 and JP3 and PIT 803 for JPK.
Also to ensure Odin3 is ok I tried both v1.00 and v1.30.
I am completly pizzled here.
Just to make sure, I am not referring to WIFI or 3G/Edge. I do not have the basic gsm network to make calls.
Any suggestions??
TIA
RTQ
So, um, which froyo "upgrade" did you use? You know there's not an official one yet, right?
It would have to have been eugene or master's... Or you used one meant for another galaxy s device, which would totally explain your problem.
Sent from my vibrant using XDA App
I could totally be wrong here as it is 5 am here, but are any of the current froyo roms based off of JP3 or JPK? If I recall correctly they are all JPM or JPO based. It definitely sounds like you flashed something that wasn't for your phone, or flashed something incorrectly (seeing as I haven't read anything about JP3 or JPK).
If you can still get into download mode, here's stock JFD for the Vibrant.
And here's the stock kernel, since you probably need that too.

Did you flash the original Galaxy S ROM?
The radios are different in the original GT-i9000 and SGH-T959.
Did you try following Eugene's Froyo that does not brick and flash back to JFD route?
There is also a new ODIN in the wild 1.7 I believe, check the bible in the dev secion.
More details
Thanks everybody for your suggestions.
Here are more details and answers fot you:
1. I am currently running JP3 with modem from JPK - that I tried out of desperation, installed via Odin3 1.30. Previously I used JP2 and JP3 on PIT 512.
2. JPK blacks the screen out after S logo and gives random vibrations until I pull the battery out. So you might be right about JPK's incompatibility.
3. I already downloaded JPD but it contains no modem or CSC.
4. Would it make a difference if I rold you that on either JP2 and JP3
- my Vol+ and Vol - keys are reversed
- home button does not work
- in recovery mode OK button does not work
- Vol -/Home/Power combo never worked even on original 2.1 rom
- to get to Donload mode I had to have USB cable attached (but not connected to the PC) press Vol +/- and Power
- the only way I get to Download mode now is by adb

Seriously we doesnt know what u talking about froyo. Vibrant doesnt have any froyo yet, unless u using eugene and other rom. My suggestion is revert it back to stock and wait for update. If u have aGALAXYS INTERNATIONAL phone then u in the wrong place

This guy is all kinds of confused. Shouldn't give these people phones.
Listen: You do NOT install something on your phone that is NOT made for your phone. First problem right there. If you want Froyo on your phone, look in the DEVELOPMENT section under the VIBRANT category. VIBRANT, the phone that you have.
What you need to do is ODIN back to JFD and never touch your phone again.
Go into download mode and open up ODIN 1.7 and use the CORRECT PIT FILE for your phone and the JFD firmware. All of this can be found in the development section.
Actually, I'll be nice and show you exactly where.
Odin 1.7

You didn't answer the earlier questions--where did you get these ROMs? Are you flashing ROMs from the i9000 dev board?
There is no SGH-T959 Froyo update which is why you're having these problems.
Odin back to stock JDF then flash Eugene's Froyo if you're looking to run it. Or wait a few weeks and we'll have the update...maybe.

I had the same thing happen to me last night with my phone not detecting the gsm.
This is what I did, I not tech savvy, but I did I did not like the 2.1 OTA update for the sgh-t959, my phone was laggy everywhere. So I researched and researched about froyo for the Vibrant, and you guys are right there is no OTA update, but it was made possible through the mini kies, first in the UK, then finally the U.S. after I updated everything was great. This is after the fact that a friend of mine said I should root my phone and flash the (cynogen???) custom rom. I have rooted my phone through the super on click method, but I decided I didn't need to go beyond that and I haven't, it's still rooted. SO, I was trying to use an app while at the grocery store, and my phone froze, hasn't happened since I had 2.1. I turn it off and when I turn I off, the home screen never loads, it's completely black except for the status bar at the top. The media scanner keeps on scanning and there is the universal no symbol there. scared the **** out of me.
So I pulled the battery, took it home and plugged it in to charge, let it charge turned it on and left it alone all night without looking at the screen to see if it booted up. I woke up this morning and I was lucky it loaded fine. Can someone please advise me as to what I did?or why this might have happened?

It's broken hasn't it...

What a start to the day....
Sg2 would not turn on. Tried loads and then left it. Suddenly a few mins later
it came on but was hung on the boot screen. Now its turning on but just hangs
a frozen boot screen.
So thought I would use ODIN to wipe it and start a fresh. Odin also just hangs
at the start at NAND WRITE START cache.img and goes no futher ever.
I tried to do a restore in CWM but again hung and eventually failed with cant find file error messages.
Seems like internal memory is screwed or something any ideas?
Can you get into download mode (power/home/volume down) ?

Have you tried booting into download mode (as stated above), or using a jig? They cost a few dollars from Ebay, but they're a life saver in these such situations.
Have you tried to flash a different ROM? Maybe the cache.img is a dud or possibly corrupted?
can get into download mode but because a flash failed CWM is gone and just get "firmware update encountered an error".....just tried a different firmware download in odin..again hangs on NAND WRITE START....
read other threads with same error , not looking good
I think a JTAG repair will probably be cheaper for you than paying Samsung to fix it. Do a search on here/Google to find a JTAG repairer close to you. If you can't find one near you, there's at least one that I know of you can post your phone to, have them repair it & they'll post it back.

Since the phone already is in "has to be sent in anyways" state, I think this quallifies for the "last resort", only do this as last step before packing it in for sending to service.
Try an Odin flash with a .PIT file and "[X] Repartition" checked.
But be very carefull with that, double check and tripplecheck everything is perfectly set up (correct stock ROM for your model, USB connection could sustain an earthquake, PC will not crash or loose power.... all that stuff) because this could totally kill it when something goes wrong.
Well, once the preflight is done, hit the mighty "Start" button and start to pray.
Well tried ext option and hangs on setting partition. I'm worried the phone is actually proper broken since its not flashing or rom issues that was the original problem. Just went off, wouldnt turn on, left it a while...suddenly on but hanging on boot everytime..then the flashing attempts to realise more broken than ever! Will service fix that?, im with vodafone UK and they will be arsy if they find custom rom flashes etc? Can I send direct to samsung...? thanks for ur help peeps!

Are you using a single file when your trying to flash? I had an issue where it was stuck on the nand part, then I flashed using three files, PDA, Modem, Csc, and it was successful.
But seeing that you've tried repartition and that didn't work, you may be screwed.
Well, if it's that broken that nothing boots, nothing shows, nothing even flashes, I doubt they can see you got a custom ROM on it (Samsung could, but would very likely not bother checking).
So just tell them it failed during updating with KIES.
Since KIES is "teh craps" and everybody know that, they will likely go "oh yah, another one"
Are you using the original Samsung data/USB cable when you are trying to flash with Odin ? If not, do it.

Yeah, I tried to use a data cable that came with an HTC once. For some odd reason, it didn't work.
I've had Odin flashes go.wrong before and almost always fixed it by rebooting or restarting Odin. Maybe even try on a different PC. For me a 3 part file with pit + repartition has always done the trick.
However it does seem like your problem may be hardware related.

If they check that you might be in a bit of trouble warranty-wise. Or you might be lucky. If you can wait a few days or however long it takes to get a jig, might be worth getting one.

Regardless, please try the original cable, you have nothing to lose.
For the first few months, I was flashing ROM's fine with an el cheapo usb cable from ebay then suddenly, Odin would always hang. Reverted to original cable and everything has been fine ever since. I have also noticed that the file transfers and Kies Backups are noticeably quicker on the original cable.
Given you can access download mode, I'm crossing my fingers for you that its only a soft brick. Also, try plugging in the usb cable to a port directly on the motherboard (ie not one of those front panel extensions), also try different computers.
I thought jigs didnt work after a certain firmware or are they're new jigs available?

Depends on what version firmware you have on your phone/what you tried to flash. Do you remember either/both of those ?

They don't work the new bootloader, but if you got your ROMs from Intratech's thread, most of them have the bootloaders replaced with the old one.
You could also try to flash the old-bootloader-only .tar that is also in Intratech's thread if the jig doesn't work, maybe it at least manages to flash that one so you can reset the counter.
well it's officially knackered
tried original samsung cable - same problem
different computer - pit and 3 files plus single files , same problem
cant even flash any old bootloaders to reset the jig!
so gutted it ran my life for me schedules, to do, all sorts, oh well
goosed - thanks anyway

Vibrant Dead after firmware update Fail

Hi to everyone! Is my first thread here. I have a Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 and try to update using Odin3 v1.85. Everything go well but at end apear Fail in Odin and the phone turn off. I think the phone go to restart but never turn on again and I can't turn on now. I press power botton and no response. I try to put it in download mode or recovery mode and I can't. What is next? I order a JIG, but a friend told me that no correct my problem.
One does not update via Odin (well 99% of the time IMO) Odin is usually used to revert to stock and reset partitions.
Did you have the repartition checked?
Did you try and flash a ROM or Boot loaders?
When you hook the phone to the computer and open up Odin does it still show a yellow box? If so flash back to JFD and start over.
If you tried to flash bootloaders your only hope of unbricking it may be a JTAG service (google it).
It may be late for you now...but a warning to others - Messing with Odin is one of the quickest ways to brick your phone. I dont think Ive ever actually heard of anyone hard brick a T959 without Odin.
Unless your updating the boot loader hard brick is near impossible. Odin is not to blame, and the risk is negligible.
My vibrant died a few days ago reverting to stock to deposit a check (so GPS would work). Sounds like the phone just died. Mine is hardware dead and sounds just like yours. Wont turn on or acknowledge a current when plugged into the charger.
BTW: Unlike some other phones, if you click re-partition on the Vibrant and have the pit file. You can repartition and it not muck up the phone... well unless the repartitioning itself went AWOL.

I agree with ya Moped_Ryder about the quirks of using Odin, although Ive never had a problem with it, as long as I do or don't tick the wrong buttons or try flashing the wrong SW for the wrong application ETC ETC!!
Ironically, a half a day too late, I found out about the dangers and horrors of using the Samsung Kies update, and that was what BRICKED my phone, Its corrupted the primary and 2ndary Boot-loaders, BUT again it wasn't ODIN that did it!! Personally I use CWM to flash anything above stock JFD.
BTW I JUST INSTALLED YOUR ROM GREAT WORK, IVE NEVER SEEN FROYO ACT AND PERFORM SO WELL! WHY WOULD I REVERT BACK TO FROYO, BECAUSE IVE HAD TOO MANY WEIRD PROBLEMS WITH ALL THE ICS's and Froyo cured all the app problems I needed working and plus Ive got the loud ringtone again ETC ETC!! Only thing I miss. Is not being able to use my FFC I modded the phone with. I'm wondering if there is a way to port that part of the needed SW into your Froyo to support FFC's Sometimes Old is better, but to each their own!! Anyway great job, Thanks a ton!!
Unfortunately you have a hard brick. I know, I did the same thing. Fortunately it doesn't mean your phone is toast. Go to mobiletechvideos.com, you need a JTAG service. I also recommend the Unbrickable Mod. They can do that service for you. You can find out more about unbrickable mod, search in xda. Good luck!

Don't necessarily give up.
My phone was doing the same thing after I screwed up a flash. The screen would not light up and there was no indication of the phone powering up at all no matter what I did. Tried all sorts of tricks (researched from XDA) to get into download mode or otherwise get it to at least partially boot, aboslutely nothing worked. Out of desperation, I found a guy within driving distance of me that sold jigs, got one within a couple of hours. Popped the jig into my phone, went right into download mode, flashed stock no problem. Phone has worked fine ever since.
Don't give up. Hopefully the jig will work.
I had a similar issue with my phone after using Odin,it was completely hard bricked. As I am in Europe no possibility for Jtag but I found the Unbrickable Mod by Adam Outler. Using it you really need very good soldering skills. If you're not good with that try to find someone to do it on any electronic repairs or something, that's the way that I did,it will cost you few bucks.

You cannot brick this phone. I thought I bricked mine a couple times and panicked like hell only to have fixed the problem. Odin is reverting back to 2.1 or 2.2 if you mess up. If you are having trouble with Odin, try Heimdall. As far as turning your phone on, take out the battery, put it back in, plug in usb with odin or heimdall running, volume up and down while pressing power button. Hold this until download mode shows up. odin back to stock. After this, try re-flashing the new firmware you tried, but read the developers instructions again before doing so. I hope this helped
Even if you brick the phone hopelessly with a bad bootloader flash, it's not really lost. If you Google something like "Vibrant jtag repair" you'll find that you can get you phone fixed.
