[Q] o2 uk radio performance. 1.66 / 2.11 - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I've got a stock rom (1.72.206.3) and had the standard radio (1.66).
I've changed the radio to 2.11.50.20 to use with Android. Tried Android and not for me (thanks but no thanks).
Anyway, since changing the radio my signal quality isn't as good and so I'd like to go back to the 1.66 radio. I've searched and found the rill phone 1.66 but it comes with a warning about not using it if you're not sure as opposed to being able to flash the radio as I did to get the 2.11.
Any ideas or does anyone have the 1.66 radio in a flashable format?
Thanks

the correct radio version that is included in your rom is actually 2.09.xx and it is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787&highlight=radio+roms
But to be honest i would think about using 2.12.50.2_02. That's what i use and i'm on O2. My signal is great and the battery life is awesome.

Thanks, I'll give them a try (2.12 and 2.09).
To be honest the battery life is ok considering the specs and the screen size, its just the change in signal quality thats annoying (for example, dropped from 3 bars at home to 1 and sometimes loses signal completely).

can anyone please post radio rom 1.08

can anyone please post radio rom 1.08 please... thanks alot
Here ya go. 1.08..
thanks dude!.... i downgraded my radio to 1.08, ROM is 2.02 and EXT ROm was 1.66+remix.... worked like a charm....
it was an experiment to see if my hunches are correct..... im now off to test it ... to see if id get better signals... ( because I was sure I did get better signals as compared to the new radio roms.)
waiting for your feedback i have 1.18 & want to see if this one is better or not
greetings Rabia!..... in my opinion, 1.08 is better than the others i have used.... my device usually looses signal level whenever I'm at home.... (1.14,1.17) but not with 1.08. wherein i managed to get 1 bar, (my house is so far flung that signal level is low.

Zman is CORRECT!
Radio signal strength is stable and i also manage to gain one additional bar on my phone.
Thanks pare..
no prob dude!... enjoy the additional signal bar
thanks for the advice, any advice on how to upgrade my radio alone?
you cant upgrade the radio only.... you have to include the whole package.... just use the same o/s rom and extd rom that you are using now. goodluck!
Z-man,
What's the reason why the 1.08 performs better than the 1.18? Isn't the 1.18 a much newer build than the 1.08?
Thanks for the feedback Pare!
that I cannot answer dude, the only reason i wanted to have 1.08 again on my device is that, from my observations, it performs better that the others that i had used.... i still havent tried 1.18.
also, i read in one of the posts, "newer doesnt mean better" as the guy posted... sorry forgot the name of the poster.
maybe doing revisions in some parts, produces bugs in other parts of the radio rom....just maybe.
I leave it to you if you wanna downgrade radio rom..... do check your device and from your experiences with other radio roms which one would be best for you...
I was luck to be in a far flung area, that I was able to observe the behavior of other radio roms, in terms of signal level and performace.
gud luck dude!
would i need the password to make it work for my operator, if any please post the password for this radio version
that would be 0x20040306 or 0x20040305
thanks for the password, this is the best radio i tried so far, even better than 1.18, i live in a place with a bad signal coverage (home) its only the toilt now where i completly disconnect  well toilt is not where i live  i care less at least the rest of the house covered now
good for you dude!... enjoy the signal

Which Radio Version is the best for the X01HT...

... for battery life, reception and overall usability in Japan?
I currently have radio version 1.16.00.00 and seem to get great reception
and a full day's use while doing a lot of stuff on my X01HT and still get home
at the end of the day with anywhere from 30~50% left on the battery.
Is there one radio version that better than another for Japan's coverage
areas?
TIA

Definatly update your Radio atleast to 1.27.00.00. Radio versions below that have been pretty much invalidated by updates now.
If you Update to the latest radio, and see how that goes...you can swap between versions aslong as they use BL 107 or higher.

Thank you for the information and the link.
I was actually thinking of going to the 1.41.0.10 radio since the X01HT
would be at 1.41.1.10 if it were "locked-up" by SoftBank's 0182.exe file.
I was just not sure if that was a wise idea because I had heard some
complaining of short battery life with certain radio versions and ROM
combos.
It's odd that after installing dutty's WM6 v2 my radio version seems to have
gone done to 1.16.00.00. I just thought that was suppose to happen due to
better performance but then I know very little about radio versions.
Thanks again for the info.

I'm not sure why I keep getting a warning from the "Mega" site claiming that
I'm already downloading something when I'm not. It won't allow me to down
load the 1.41.00.10 radio until I finish downloading the "other" file. I guess
it must be the fact that I'm using a cable internet provider and the IP
address is 'shared' through their system so that it appears as though I'm
already downloading something.
Do you know of any other 'safe' locations to get that file?
Ahh, found it after a bit of searching here. Funny thing when you do a
search here on xda-developers for '1.41.00.10' you will get nothing but
when you try that on the XDA-Wiki you still get nothing until you search
again under the 'find page' page and in the FullTextSearch field.
So I did find the link to the 1.41.00.10 radio for the MegaUpload site again
but also the XDA FTP site as well.
Flashed the radio and I'm up at 1.41.00.10 now.
Thank you for the help!
Now onto trying to kill off that nagging welcome.exe that keeps showing
me the white screen requesting the SIM unlock code everytime I put my
Rogers SIM card in when I travel back to Canada.

(New Update}Radio upgrade only Radio version 1.47.51 + 1.45.00 + 1.38.00 + 1.50.00

I just extracted the radio 1.47.51.00 from the htc x7501 wm6 rom and packaged it so it only flashes the radio only. Please ensure if you want to use make sure your device is hardspl which you can find here:

I have flashed it twice now and both times without no probs only set back is that after the radio upgrade your device will hard reset and have to set up device again. I am using this radio with the latest dopod wm6 upgrade now.

I bet your club doesn't do Guinness at £1.50 a pint.
if you haven't CID unlocked already (or if you have) if this has a new radio bootloader, (0108) your CID will be stuck from now on.
then again, it might not, I'll report back in the morning

update
1st post updated with radio 1.45.00.00
I have been using the 1.47.51.00 radio and so far not much difference between them although I think radio 1.45.00.00 has got a better 3g signal and vice versal with radio 1.45.00.00 has got a better gsm signal.
Both radios has got similar battery life in my own opinion and to fairly say that both radios are really good in terms of overall use with the athena

Update radio only
Excuse me that he has only to replace the radio(1.45 -> 1.47), for me RUU with mistake 220 that is stopping ...

Question.
Before i go ahead and update (or use midgets hotly anticipated cooked ROM), does this X7501 radio ROM include the Video calling functions, or would that be the main ROM that includes that?

I have been using the x7501 radio rom thats in my sig and tested it with video call and it works, not that I have used it that much.
Cheers D.
I would assume then that the Radio ROM supports it, it may just be that the Main ROM has had those functions removed for the X7501.
I'll give it a go. Hopefully it will stop the problems I get when leaving a 3G area. Every time I do, i get no signal for around 10 seconds while it latches on to the 2G signal.
Of course, it could just be that T-mobile have crappy transmitters in my area.....

Even if you never make ROM upgrades, you need radio 1.58

See my post in the 1.58 radio thread for some interesting findings after I ran some tests on the new 1.58 radio. Even if you've decided to leave your Athena stock, you need to make this upgrade.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2447473&postcount=38
bull****.
as usuall I using 1.38.00.00
I have as 3G and H (HSDPA) where my provider have a cover in this area.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Downlink_Packet_Access
wiki your help!
You prove your ignorance.
Sure the other versions support 3G/H. Ive used 1.47, 1.50, 1.57 and now 1.58 and yes they support high-speed protocols.
If you actually read my post in the other thread you would see I said that 1.58 does high-speed much faster than the other radio versions and has much higher sensitivity thresholds.
But you were too busy being self-important... and wrong ... to do that. Enjoy your far-slower radio version.
I am using 1.58 and for the first time in my athena owner life I an having really fast UPLOAD. PLUS I have 3G coverage in the same places where I had 2G before (inside my home, inside my office and it is hard to believe they changed the cell in both places at the same time).
In some other places I have HSUPA coverage too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Uplink_Packet_Access
The overall feeling is also a fast download. I think download does not start until it receives the request of the upload. That's why I noticed it right away for surfing and mail reading. I normally download only a small portion of the mail, and if I want it I click to download the rest. With previous radio, the waiting time to get the rest was noticeably longer.
It's good having someone actually measure the improvement. Thanks techntrek.
Glad to post the numbers. I would be interested in seeing numbers from others (before and after).
New all-time best speed, yesterday. Previously my best was 983 kbps. Now it is 1169 kbps.
wow.
Hi
I get a message that the file is corrupted (#270) I came to 7%, then the device resets.
Any suggestions
Hans
Try to re-download the installer.
Hi
Did that twice. Are going to try again tomorrow
Hans
Are you fully unlocked?
Hi, Still no luck. Maybe a stupied question but what do you meen about unlocked? I can use my x7500 with any "phonecompany" that I want. I don´t have to use someone special.
Hans
Unless you have specifically run olipro's unlocking software you are only sim unlocked. His software takes away the remaining locks, such as the one that allows you to install non-factory roms (such as the radio rom). Look in the "hard-spl..." thread in this sub-forum.
I will do that, thanks for your help
Hans
Recently I flashed my radio from 1.50 to 1.58 and I must say it is a lot better! I get HSDPA at all times now where before it would occasionally swap between Edge, 3G and H now it stays solid H all the time and goes to Edge only where there is really no 3G available.
I also noticed that at home for example. I always got a very weak H signal, but after the upgrade I get two bars at all times, also tested with Skype, seems to run smoother and I don't get as many disconnected calls as before.
I suggest everybody should upgrade the radio, it is well worth it!
michyprima r4 radio 1.58
x7501 running michy's r4 with radio 1.58, can rec calls or mms, infact the speed is great when it works, but stability has gone way down, i've seen a lot of people using connex to go back to 1.2spl and then using 2.04d with r1.58. i was wondering if people could post what roms they are using that they see good stability with.
My SPL is 1.2 and the stock rom WM6. I see a huge performance differance with this radio over 1.50, no stability issuses at all.

AP4, no difference with older radios or this one - all stable.
Michi's V4 SPL 1.2 and 1.58. Coming from stock and stock WM6 there is a good performance increase in radio, typically at least 1 more bar wherever I am and no stability issues.

T-Mobile(USA) what's the best radio rom?

Just upgraded my phone to WM6.1 and enjoying it, but I heard something about the ability to upgrade the radio rom on the phone.
I've heard that some radio roms can increase reception, but also decrease battery life and cause some calls and messages to miss.
I'm using T-Mobile USA on my Wizard. Have there been a better radio rom that doesn't cause these issues, or should I just stay with my current radio rom?
if you have no problem with your current radio i would stick with it. read lots of posts on radio upgrading. some people get great results and some have problems.
from what i have red 2,19 seems to be the most stable.
you can always test it for yourself. all the radios are availible in the ftp server including the original t mobille usa radio
Hey Duke what rom are you using?
Official Tmobile rom with WM5 and radio 2.25.11 never missed any calls for me, as soon as i went with TNT's 6.1 latest rom, i started missing calls and voicemails. Flashed to 2.71.11 radio - same, now i applied the radio cab fix from here(post #6) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317331&highlight=tmobile+Radio+ROM (per advise of mmeyer) and testing currently. If that doesnt work - will flash to 2.19 that seems to work for most US MDA Tmobile people. Just hate to go to older radio that has much worse reception than even 2.25
