Android 3.0 for Vibrant? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hate to ask this right now because Android 2.2 hasn't come out officially on the Vibrant yet, but I was wondering will the Vibrant get Android 3.0 update in the future?

no its skipping 3.0 to get 4.58876 codename ICECREAM

Wouldn't it be awesome if samsung surprised everyone and released android 3.0 for the galaxy s? Yeah.pipe dream.

Hey you should work for Google since you apparently also have the ability to make crazy codenames that have nothing much to do with anything.

Wow, I really wish that was the case...Now, I feel like a computer geek because the thought of that dream made me so happy lol.

half of me says lets wait to get froyo before we start talking about gingerbread, but the smarter half says no way...
Either way, i doubt it.

The hardware is compliant with 3.0.
If Samsung doesn't upgrade to 3.0, it will piss off a lot of people. I know I'd never buy another Samsung.

Seriously, why do you think Gingerbread is "all that". We haven't even seen a working version of it?

Why even bother talking about 3.0? Lets worry about 2.2 first.

by the time 3.0 rolls out this phone will be out of rotation, happens to all phones, might get one update then they are pushing another better phone.
and names that have nothing to do with anything? you havent been following the names have you?
"Cupcake”
"Donut”
"Eclair”
"Froyo”
"Gingerbread”
see a pattern?

Android 3.5 is Code Name "Honeycomb"

Given that Samsung expects this to be a 2 year phone, one would HOPE they keep it updated but there is no way to know.

The Galaxy S is most certainly Samsung's flagship device, they have announced they expect to sell 10 million units. One would HOPE they would keep the software current.

I wouldn't go that far. The original Omnia and its successor were one of the nicer WinMo phones before the HD2 came out. Last time I check, the Omnia II is still getting updates even though it's been out for nearly a year. Shame on Samsung for not keeping their promise of getting the Behold II to Eclair, but they're not screwing over all of their phones.
I highly doubt Samsung will ditch the Galaxy S, there's way too much of these phones out there. If they dare to do so, they'll pretty much commit suicide in the mobile phone market.

Agree with the post above

[Q] WILL HD2, GET GINGERBREAD V3.0 ? (October release)

Whem HD2 gets NAND port Android, will be easy to make a port to Android v3.0 Called Gingerbread? That Coming in October for the Nexus and One Desire, by rumors on the web.
I think in matter of Hardware it's possible.
What are the biggest difficulties that the Devs shall go find?
Or now that we have almost complete Android Tree, everything will be much simpler....

class 6 sd cards are faster than nand and give you more internal storage , may be the android 3.0 needs more than 512 internal to work so sd class 6 is a better choice

where is the proof, what I have seen on the thread of storage card, is the performance due to the class, is still very debatable.
but if this is true, it would be great.
I'm still with the original Storage card class 2, therefore, not whether there is enough class, 4 or 6 or 10.

Let’s not get into an argument about NAND versus SD card. (FYI, let us not forget SD card consumes more power than NAND).
Yes, HD2 will get Gingerbread. Why? Because this is frickin XDA. N1, Desire, and probably even the G1 (for some reason) will get Gingerbread…just because this is XDA and they do the “impossible”.
i think also that desire or nexus one or galaxy s willnot get the 3.0..
But if it goes for example in the new desire hd that will come in the next months mayb we can have it on our hd2 !!!!!!

I cant believe some of you are saying you dont believe the Nexus One wont get it.
It meets all the minium specs for ginger bread, some of gingerbread was demoed on it already at google i/o, and the main reason it will get it is because its the Google Dev phone!! its the phone they are testing it out on as we speak!

+1 - Google itself has stated that the Nexus One will get all future updates - BEFORE any other phones. This is not to say that other phones wont concurrently get the updates, but only that it will be pushed to the N1 first.
If HD2 comunity won't have in Developing house the Master devs that have at moment, I wouldn't believe in this stuffs port, but how they work for us, I'm very optimist they port the gingerbread.
But realistically speaking, if they give us, a froyo 2.2 stock build, like HD2 was a original Android device, for me is enough, and will be forever gratified for the Devs....
If ginger comes better, if not, no problem.
WM dies for me, in the day MS make the statement, that will not give the WM7 upade.....horse for them.....minus one WM7 embassador.......better for Android SO win a new crasy and devote fan.....( I know iPhone SO, Palm Pre, because have one of wichother in the house).

Yes they will. The Nexus is one of the first phones to get it.
The nexus one will get gingerbread for sure, no doubt at all. Meets all requirements and is the official google dev phone. Other phones with similar specs may get it as well (desire, etc). Regardless of who else gets it, I'm sure HD2 will get is, this is friggin XDA. The devs here are known to be able to do just about anything.

Yep, remember people said that froyo couldn't be done on the g1 and look what happened.
Our HD2s meet all the requirements for gingerbread anyway, our hardware is very similar if not nearly identical to some of the other phones which will run gingerbread. I can't imagine it being that hard for the devs.

If you really want Sense that bad, maybe you should go with the HTC Sensation..? It's just as good as the SGS2 (Spec wise)
i am about to buy a new phone and am stuck on this very question
is the s2 going to get a sense ROM???
the original galaxy s still doesnt have a fully functional sense ROM
I have to purchase my phone within the week and the sensation will not be available before mid june
Sure it's possible but I'd imagine it would be a fair bit of work. Hopefully once this phone hits more markets we'll get a few more devs to work on projects like these

I'm not sure why you'd purchase a GSII if you want Sense. To answer your question, the only way to KNOW the GSII is going to get the ROM is to make it yourself. None of us on here can tell you it will happen, or won't happen, with any certainty. It seems extremely unlikely to me though, as most seem to either be satisfied with TouchWiz 4.0 or are interested in something more AOSP-y.
Why can't you wait an extra week or 2 for the Sensation? That seems a much better option for you.

You can make the phone look like sense... With launcher pro plus and a sense mod you can find on this forum. Launcher pro plus has the same look for the widgets, like friendstream.
The sense mod had the sense themes, the dock and so on...
With widgetlocker you can get the sense lockscreen.

It is, but some people seem to forget that. They also can't think beyond two feet in front of them either, so you will have to remember that when you listen to/read what others have to say.

I'm not doubting that. But remember how much work it is to port something like Sense, and that work needs to be coupled with a desire to do it by someone with a lot of talent. The SGSII may get a stable Sense port, it's entirely possible. But look at the progress made on the original SGS. Last time I looked it was alpha stuff that really wasn't all there yet, and that device has been out a year now. No one should be making any kind of decision on the SGSII with the hope that Sense will be ported.

True, but one can always ask right? Or if you have the tools and knowledge, you can chip in and help to find a solution if it exists. I didn't buy my SGSII in hopes of getting a sense port, but wondering if it was possible shouldn't get me or anyone else flamed for asking either.

You're not getting flamed. There's just an inordinate number of threads asking about Sense on the GSII, and the answer is pretty easy. It's definitely possible, why wouldn't it be, when it's one Android build to another? The real question to answer is...is how difficult will it be and is it likely to happen. I gave you my opinion. If you disagree or don't like it that's fine, it's just my opinion

I'm glad you presented it as your opinion, and you're right in that I can agree or disagree with it. But you aren't the type of person I was referring to. I can respect anyone that presents their case in a clear and concise manner, but I have no respect for people that do nothing but interject with nothing pertinent to add to the discussion. All they do is spout off their opinion like it's gospel and you should agree with them, and if you don't, then you're an idiot.

ICS On Samsung Galaxy S2?

There are a fair few good deals on the S2 now that the Nexus is out with Android ICS, but how good is the ICS port over to the S2? Any bugs or flaws?
I am contemplating getting this phone for my girlfriend who isn't very tech savvy hence ICS would need to work flawlessly on the device .
Ics is not ready yet for this device there only at the alpha stage try again in 4months for a stable one or use the ics theme from the market

Samsung has said "official" ICS firmware for SGS2 will be released "some time in Q1 2012". So far as other roms go, you should start seeing ICS ports over the next few weeks.
So far as functionality goes, I'd be surprised if these don't go thru the normal "teething problems" roms & kernels tend to go thru, and given your girlfriend isn't "tech savvy" and the device would need to work "flawlessly", I'd recommend you wait until Samsung releases official firmware rather than use a custom ICS port.
Unless you want to spend a lot of time playing tech support ?

If it's a phone for your non-tech girl I would not worry about Gingerbread or ICS, I would worry about Touchwiz, Sense or whatever skin is out there and select your phone accordingly.
Getting into buggy beta ICS or non compatible apps or widgets that act weird is the killer, it just has to work and look nice. Gingerbread is good for that.

No one will be able to answer this with any certainty, as it depends on what lot the phone was manufactured in and gotten ready for sale. If it came to the retailer with GB preinstalled, it will get sold with GB installed. If it came with ICS preinstalled, it will get sold with ICS installed.
It's not like retailers open up boxes they already have and upgrade the handset to ICS.
Are there any phones being sold at the moment with anything less than ics?

If he could create a script or program that could take an IPSW (Firmware file) and make it "android ready" for lack of a better term, he would be completely safe. As the user would be downloading the IPSW and supplying it not him. Also the IPSW are available freely on Apple's site so they couldn't come after the users at that point at all. He just has to find a way to do that (not going to be easy).
Also iOS source is available on apple's dev site for anyone to look at it. It's just mostly copywrited (besides the BSD portions). I'm not sure if all of it's there but I have looked at some of it in the past for hints to exploits for jailbreaking.

I have some development background, and from my knowledge of iOS and ARM Devices this would be quite a task if this is what he is doing.
I really want to believe this is real but I just found a link from github by someone called Peter42 who freshly uploaded a "BootDroid" code.
Last update to his blog dated 24 March is the same date the files were uploaded.
I have a Motorola Xoom and believe I can't test them.
Could anyone (for God's sake!) confirm whether they were real or not?
If possible, I already downloaded the files and would upload them for you in case original was removed.
this should be awesome, running ios in the powerfull SII... just for shutup the izombies xP
Even better, the upcoming Galaxy SIII!
But for real, can anyone try that?
I just ran the installation process on my Motorola Xoom and didn't notice any difference like a new app nor by or through restarting.
I'm kinda hyped up on this and would love to brag about how Android is superior to iOS if it was true

I don't really know if this was the link to the program or not though it's called the same.
But as I said before, these files were uploaded the day he last updated his post.
You can download it from there.
I don't really know how this should work since it doesn't even have iOS firmware files but I figured someone with a supported device could try and see for himself.
Nothing appeared on my Xoom at all which is not supported!
And, you can uninstall it from the same installation wizard.
Hi everybody !
Sorry for my english, I'm french.
I am really interested on this application, so I wonder if somebody has already succed in make it working ?
I' ve downloaded the Zip package on the website shared on the link below, but I don't understand how to instal it...
I think that even if it's possible to run iOs and Adroid on a Iphone, it woould be difficult to do the same on a androphone beacause iOs in not an open source system ...

[Q] Evo 3D to the official android 4.1, is it possible?

Is HTC Android 4.1 update will do for your device? It seems to me that this company is very neglected futuristic, I would like to know if you do something on the other phones than the ones that now sell ..... Does anyone have knowledge about this? because the manufacturer's support page gives me the answer "Unfortunately I do not have such information, but I can still help you?" I thought the pile instead of lg or htc smsunga this case will look different, but it turns out that the Korean company is on track to attract users, feels neglected by HTC, and the very next box while I wonder. Sorry for my english: (
Officially? Maybe. Blood, sweat and tears by fellow XDAins, absolutely.
Officially? NO!

Huh? I believe you are talking about the carriers updating their newer phones first, which is exactly what they do. There is no point in spending
money to update an old phone that isn't even sold anymore.
Its not official but I doubt it will happen
Yeah, it's not looking good for our phone for an official release.
But its not SO hopeless, because we already have really good cm10, aokp, PA roms with android jb and they dont have very much bugs, we also have android 4.2 roms(buggy, but still), AND some devs are veery close to booting sense 4+ , the only thing that wont be inside is 3D cam and some 3D features.(I hope to be proven wrong about 3D)
Sent from my shooteru using xda premium
When it out may be i already change my phone to htc butterfly
