I am sure that this question has been asked, but... by running these Android OS's aren't we simply running "virtual machines"?
Please don't get upset with me... I just had to ask!
no, it's not like a virtual machine because wm is only used to run haret and then it shuts down leaving android on it's own...after that android sustains itself...i believe, because the device wouldn't be able to run them both at the same time
also,a proof that it shuts down is that wm needs to boot when you shut down android (it doesn't come back to wm screen)

Thank you for answering...I had only asked because it seemed like it was a "virtual machine".

Hi all,
I've got a problem with my hermes phone which I can't solve by my own I think :
My device gets stucked while booting. It just shows a "htc smart mobility" screen and displays the various red numbers on the bottom for some seconds (as usual I think). But it's not going any further (waited for about 20 minutes).
I flashed the "Hermes.DarkVisions.v5.17.23017.Manila" rom over my exisisting "Schap's 4.22" rom a few hours before. The rom was running good. Then I executed the "kill em all" app by mistake, which can be found in the accessory folder as far as I can remember. Then the phone began to work very slowly so I decided to restart it. And now its not really working any more.
By connecting the phone with my pc and trying to flash a new rom, I get the RUU Error "200 INVALID UPDATE TOOL" - what does this mean? The auto detection of the current bootloader obviously doesn't work due to no running windows mobile.
Is there any chance to flash the phone without a running windows mobile? Or what else can I do to get the current rom "Dark Visions" running again?
Thanks a lot for your help,
Michael
Press The Power, The ok button (usually found on the left side) and The reset button using your pen until this rainbow coloured thing comes up.
Plug it into your USB and then reflash your ROM, also don't forget to upgrade your radio as you will need it to stabilize your custom ROM which you will find under wiki part of this forum. Just search "Hermes Radio" and click the first thing you see.
Now your device should be back to life again.
OK, so I've been reading the Common Upgrade Problems on the wiki, and I saw this:
Important : Windows VISTA users need to make a change to their system to successfully use many ROM packages. See Mr. Vanx's guide here.

Since Mr.Vanx's website was taken down, I ask you what are the changes i need to perform and if I need to apply them to Windows 7.
Best wishes!
Any help in here?
Please, i have the same trouble. I didn't work with Windows 7. Does Anyone know a solution?

Try this:
You seem to have WinMo and a compatible radio.
1. Format your SDCard with FAT32 (backup your data first) (what kind of card do you use? (size and class))
2. Copy your android to your SD card (read the installation guide of the chef, not all Android Builds runs from /Storage Card/Android)
3. Run CLRCAD.exe (or something like this) and then Haret.exe.
4. Be patient, it will take a few minutes at the first boot.
5. if you complete the setup process reboot and then you can do what ever you want
tried that same thing.
just repeats the same 5 lines or something over and over
i have a small question, i successfully booted to android, question is when i need to reboot my phone i cannot lunch android again , can you help me ?

Ok... We try some other things
What HD2 do you have?! 512MB or 1024MB?
Which Radio do you use?
Which Android ROM?
Radio 2.12.50 has a better current cosumption for me. Maybe you try this radio, too
What you need to realise is that when we say "wait a few minutes" we mean up to and including 15... It can seem that the HD2 has frozen but wait long enough and it will boot into android, 1st it has to set up your card the way it likes with a (generally) 1Gb image file. This takes a little while to do.
Patience grasshopper......
Sorry for this not being directly related but it seems like a resonable place to ask my question. So ive flashed tons of winmo roms but just now starting to try android. I flashed nrgz's bare bones rom for android. and the only android that I can get to load is the one that nrgz posted himself a month or to ago. I have tried 3-4 different builds after and it starts linux but only for a second than either goes to an htc screen frozen. or a bright blue screen frozen. Ive tried everything that ive read about. I have reformatted my sd card twice. ive tried 3 different sd cards. ive tried a different roms. Nothing works. I like nrgz andoid ROM that he has with a froyostone build of android but it is VERY unstable and I cant get it to run for more than 10 minutes without freezing and want to try something alittle more stable. ANYBODY know what else i can try. thanks.
sorry i just figured it out. Im AN IDIOT> i thought that i had to see linux run all the way through like with nrgz. but apparently the htc screen is good. MY BAD>

Follow my guide and never have to use winmo again.....

If you need to boot back into android you need to launch haret.exe. If you press on it and it does nothing then press and hold on it to get some options. If open is not in the options you can either download total commander to open the file or download EBL 2.1 and install it. Both of these apps are winmo apps. I found them online.
it turned out that it was due to the files been in the android folder and not direct onto the sd card which was a bit annoying cos thats originally how i had it before i read somewhere people put it in an android folder so did this to keep it organised.
still have a few errors tho and sleeping and dying so was gonna try the froyostone 3.2. this seriously wont but tho. blue screen straight onto black with green htc and left for ages with no luck. any tips on that one?
also im using rom version 1.66.405.2 if that would cause any issue?
tried froyostone 3.1 and got that to boot but still a bit hit and miss. also when it sleeps for long periods overnight its dies. is this normal or is there anyway to fix it?

Thank you very much , i will try this...
different builds seem to just not work for some people....
its all about trial and error.......
i went through about 6 different builds before finding one that 90% stable.....
its this one.....
Through the forums I've read that many people use Android on their device for daily use instead of winmo. I'd love to replace winmo myself my i have some questions:
-I have tried Android, but when i run it, it takes more or less 5 minutes to load. Is that how it's supposed to be or I'm doing something wrong. (i've read everywhere that the first time it takes 15mins or so, but havent found anywhere how long does it normally take). If it does take 5mins to load, what happens when you just have to soft reset the device? Isn't it annoying to wait 5 minutes just for one soft-reset? (it really annoying in winmo that it takes 1~ minute. cant image how its on android )
-Is Android that much customizable like winmo? i mean can u change the taskbar or softkeys, icons for the apps and stuff? i love customizations!
-How long can u run Android on your phone without recharging?
-Is there ANYTHING that you miss from winmo and you cant find it on android?
thanks in advance
hi there i cant answer all of your questions but some of them i can
I installed yesterday andriod on my phone (first i had to install hspl and then flash radio from 2.07 to 2.12) on radio 2.07 android wodnt boot i waited for like 30min notihng but with the 2.12 android boots for like a 1min or max 2 (froyostone sense 3.2.7 from htc desire) linux ubuntu too it boots the same time like android but i was disapinted in android because you can only install aplications from market and you dont have a sd card exloprer thats realy stupid my nokia 6300 could do that other than that android is amaizing beter then winmo (if htc did put android for os on the htc hd2 the pfone woud be more popular but with winmo they "killed" hd2's specs)
Hey guys I hope that you can help me.
My HTC Sense is DEAD! it tries to load, but it restarts before graphics could appear... so I see just loading indefinitely.
I installed Android on SD (BOYPPC GINGER 2.3.3 V7)... during a boot (not the first one) Android has frozen so I had to remove the battery... and after reboot manila didn't works anymore.
What's happened??? What does Windows mobile if I was starting Android?
Could I Flash just a new Manila?
I don't want to hard reset my mobile
Ive seen this before in relation to sd android (saw it a few times on my own device too, more than once, with different winmo roms and android roms and radios, and eventually gave up on sd android) where after running sd android winmo refuses to boot, and all I could do was hard reset.
Sorry I have no other advice for you.

Just a suggestion here but if you run into a problem like this again don't do a battery pull. Take the battery cover off and press the little red. yellow,. or green reset button close to the SD card slot.
This might keep you from having this kind of problem again.
Install CHT scheduler in winmo and do a complete sense backup.
If it happens again you should be able to completely restore Manila.
I also make a point of disabling sense before I boot into android. Improves battery life and you have less chance of a random reboot. IMO
Hope that helps.
Sent from my fingers to your face...
Sorry for posting here, but there is no WinMo6.1 section for HD2. Maybe transfer the thread to WinMo6.1 subforum?
Also sorry, if I was maybe to stupid to pick the right keywords for search. Maybe I searched to complicated or noone was so stupid to want what I want.
Hi everyone. I made some stupid mistakes, and now my HD2's OS isn't booting anymore.
Preconditions
A HTC HD2 with open bootloader and installed Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM CrossbowHD2. There are some minor regedits for displaying japanese but those were no problem. Everything stable for half a year now.
What did happen?
Just wanted to install some software.
Japanese Advanced IME
Well, didn't saw the 'Raphael&Diamond' but there was no error while installing. After the installation it demanded a restart (no problem right), and since it doesn't boot beyond the white screen with the green HTC.
Guess it screwed up the registry.
BUT - and that's something good, isn't it? - the bootloadermenu is still working
What I want to achieve?
At best, full recovery without dataloss (no, don't have backups. Know myself it's stupid. Thanks). Maybe through reverting the regedits from the installation as can be found in the cab file?
Second best: Datarecovery via the bootloader through a tool or just flashing the original registry for backup (also the software won't work anymore) or some similar method.
Third: Memory dump? Is there a toll for converting the resulting binfile to something usefull?
Actually I just care about some of the note files, calender entries and pdfs. The pictures and similar may be lost if there's no other way.
Numbers:
Red booting numbers:
Code:
R 2.07.51.22_2
G 15.32.50.07W
D 3.14.04666 8G
Yellow bootloader numbers:
Code:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x40
So, am I crazy, or is there a way?
I guess I'm asking for the impossible?
So other suggestions for solutions or another subforum to post this in?
Or, for a change, is there a android version which looks and feels like mobile 6.1?
Try booting you device and connect it to the computer if actvesync can recognize it you might have a chance if not i dont know any other way.
As for the android part try a gingerbread rom since it is the most stable and equal to wm6.1 speed wise but graphic wise waaaay different.Although jellybean 4.2.2 seem fast they tend to slow down after a while. You could always dual boot win mobile and android native-sd.
Well, thats the problem. It doesnt even come this far as to connect to active sync
Actually, after 5 minutes or so I get a black screen which states, that the device is unable to boot because turned off incorrectly or a installation from a "untrusted source" and to press volume up to factory reset or anything else to cancel.
I thought, if you can flash/write a rom there maybe also is a way to read from there
I dont like android from desktop to setting fiddling but, well, most software nowadays...
Is there like the bootmanager for linux and windows on the desktop something for windows and android for pdas?
maybe there is something like a "lightweight android" (like feather linux) to use just for 3, 4 programs ^^
Well i do not know any other way to recovery your data you could just reflash the rom by going into bootloader ( remove the battery put it back in hold vol down and power on) and flashing a rom.
As for Android rom you can run it with wm but there is no true bootmanager as such. You need to load wm then android there are plenty of apps that can act like a boot manager but they stiill require wm to load then once loaded give you a choice to run wm or go to android.
For a light android rom go with and CM7 rom personally i would go with Sundawg's rom it was the most stable cm7 rom and is pretty light
