I rooted the MT3G with ease. And the flashing of Roms and stuff is easy for Mt3g. But it seems hard for the Vibrant. I don't use abd or anything cause frankly. I don't know how. Can you guys maybe give me suggestions?

Read, understand, experiment. Ppl only get their troubles or "panic" because they dont have anything setup & dont know how to get them selves out it. If you dont want to learn our try to use the tools that are available then just wait till the one-click ROMS or CM comes out.
If you want to take the time to learn then I would suggest to head over to the vibrant "bible".
Easiest way is just to down load one click lag fix from market there is a root option there. Or it really was easy this oas my first android phone. Download the update filter put it in the internal sd and rebooted using hold vol + vol- and power. And installed from there no problem.
Just check out the stickied thread about vibrant tips and tricks

There is also a "One Click Lag Fix" that you can download here, it takes like 20 seconds to root this phone, you shouldn't be scared

I wondered about rooting too at first, but as it turns out it's very easy. I've read several comments on how easy it is to root the Vibrant compared to Android phones back in the olden days.
And if you want to flash a neat ROM, go check out Bionix.

I just got this phone 2 days ago (my first smartphone ever!) and I've flashed it probably 6 or 7 times now...
Important advice: Right now, once you've installed Clockwork ROM Manager, make a backup of your ROM! I really wish I'd done this, just a near-stock, untouched backup (yes every thread post starts with "make a backup!" but I was stupid)
Now for some encouragement: If I, with zero knowledge of Android/rooting/ROMs/build.prop files/Clockwork/adb/Odin before Sunday at 4 pm, managed to F with this phone as much as I have and not even come close to bricking it, you'll be *golden* just flashing it with a well-known ROM.
Flashing ROMs is super easy with Clockwork. It's like... 3 or 4 clicks easy.
Right now I'm running Bionix and really enjoying it. You might check it out while we all wait for Cyanogenmod to come out for Vibrant.
TL;DR: I've been pushing files, flashing broken ROMs, all sorts of fun stuff and my phone is still pluggin' away. I wouldn't worry too much about bricking. Just read the threads, search the Googles, and ask for help if you get really stuck. And backup.
Make sure you check out Eugene323's stuff as well. He puts out some incredible work.

I had more problems with my MT3G than I did with this phone. It took a day to root and rom the MT3G since I have the one with the head phone jack (stupid gold card crap).
Do what everyone has suggested. DL the One Click Lag Fix and touch the option to root. I'm running the Bionix 1.3 and it's good.
Let me preface this with: I appreciate the work that Devs do and I'm not ungrateful for anything that has been done. I'm just trying to get some justification.
I'm having doubts about keeping VooDoo mainly because when you create a Nandroid it doesn't backup the Data.
-I used SpareParts before to make screen transitions and animations faster
-I don't really see a huge speed boost from VooDoo
-I feel like my recovery isn't complete right now
-I don't really care about quadrant scores/linpack results because my phone runs fast based on performance NOT based on some numbers.
Thanks for your help
If you don't want it and can't tell the diffrence then get rid of it. Why do you need convincing? Seems like you'd be much happier without it, and like you said recovery doesn't work all the way.

Since jumping to voodoo my fascinate is working like I want it.no FC's and great speed.

I'm very grateful for the devs too.
Anyhow, I think voodoo does have better phone performance. I do think the phone is much snappier (compared to before...).
Regarding nandroid, yeah I understand that issue. I totally agree too. I also think "most" of the times of playing around with the phone, I would have voodoo disabled, so that doing something that would crash my phone and would require a nandroid would still be viable. Granted, thats if I made a nandroid backup beforehand (disable VD, nandroid, re-enable VD)
Why do people keep saying "nandroid"? What is that? When I made a backup I just went into clockwork and clicked on create backup. I didn't see anything mention nandroid.

Well I'm trying to get some reasons to keep it that I may be missing. Cause it seems like its a pain to remove voodoo. If I remove it, I'm going to completely remove it, not just the remove voodoo file thing.

The backups are called nandroid backups, because the backup your nand, or memory. For some people it doesn't work correctly with voodoo for whatever reason.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You can make nandroid backups, you just remove voodoo, make the backup, reinstall voodoo.
To remove, you create your disable_lagfix file and reboot. Wait for the uninstall process. Once you're back to normal, make your backup. Then remove the disable_lagfix file, and reboot once more, and wait for the reinstall process.
It might take you an extra 15 minutes, but it sure beats the 2 days it takes to get the phone back to "just how you had it".
As far as convincing you, I have better things to do with my time.. Like the guy said, if it's not what you want, don't use it.

It shouldn't be that much of a pain. From what i understand, voodoo is really only to fix the "lag" of all galaxy variants using a slower ext cache or filesystem by moving the system to a faster partition. I coul be wrong on that. Its supposedly to speed up the phone and reduce lag. If you haven't noticed a diffrence, maybe try an overclock kernal.

Tried that, and no go. Idk what was going on, but I decided to go ahead back to the stock kernel. I'll probably end of flashing back but here is what made me go back:
-I couldn't format my phone easily
-My recovery just didn't feel complete
-Didn't see much of an improvement (could of been that I wasn't on an overclock kernel)

so i tried to flash the full rooted ruu rom via hboot, i had it sitting on my table with the batt door off and knocked it on the floor ( accident ofcourse ) and the batt came out halfway during the process so now it goes into the htc screen then blank htc screen then blank and i cant get into cwr so my question is can i salvage it or am i f**ked?
Have you tried hbooting to recovery? Volume up and power down when the phone boots up.
cant keep it in cwr long enough to do anything, keeps rebooting and when it does go into cwr it says something like cant mount cache i think

+1. That's exactly what would have worked. I know it's too late for the lad now, but for future users...
If you're ever stuck in a boot-loop and can't hboot into recovery, you'll need to copy and past the PGIMG05.ZIP file onto the root of your SD Card. This will be about a 200-400 meg file and would usually be a stock rooted RUU or stock signature RUU. After it's on the root of your SD, make sure it's the only PGIMG05.zip file on there! Then start the phone by holding down power + volume up. This will force the phone to hboot the PGIMG05 file which will get you past the boot-loop.
For some it's a good idea to have insurance too.
You can get a replacement minus the deductible if you "lose" your phone.
Just make certain you call VZW as soon as you lose it.
I don't suggest selling the phone for parts and saying it's lost, but I'm sure others have done this to cover their deductible.
Those without insurance...I have heard people have had great success with warranty replacement when using over the phone support when the phone doesn't boot or bootloops.
Since you send the phone back to VZW by mail, their replacement standards are much lower than dealing with their retail and face to face support.

I'm new to this, just rooted my thunderbolt the week before last (have rooted a total of 4 phones though since and created my own bootimage with sound and everything! lol!), and that's what came to mind when I read the original post but I didn't "know" for sure. Thanks for confirming it. This stuff is fascinating to me. I like to understand what is going on. I'd like to someday write my own rom. Putting the stock Rom on took the root off of it but didn't fix my boot loop. So I returned it and got a free thunderbolt.

So...
Rooted phone, downloaded ROM Manager, wanted to try out ROMs and was informed that I needed CWM Recovery to do so.
So, I select to install it and am prompted to pick my device from the list. It isn't there so I select "huwai pulse". Installation successful etc...
I attempt to backup my current ROM and immediately after selecting it, the screen goes black. Nothing happens. The power keys don't work, I can't boot into recovery, nothing happens when I plug it in, it is as good as a dummy display phone.
Can anyone help me rectify this?
Please don't question what I've done. I'm not after a lecture. I'm just interested in fixing my phone.

So I rooted this phone a few months ago and it originally had Eclair 2.1. I did some research on here and found a guide to root and first installed CM7 and then ICS Passion. Last night I had some issue with my Firefox browser. And I had to reboot it. Then it just shut down down on me and got stuck in a boot loop. I did a quick back up and tried to reboot it from recovery and it's still stuck in the loop. I then did a system restore from that back up, nothing. I did notice that it won't mount the /emmc or /data says it can't mount /emmc. When I try to go to restore anything from the internal SD card it Says there is some kind of error. Now when I try to boot it, it just shows "android" logo and is stuck in a boot loop there. Yeah I'm pretty new at this but I don't know what else I can do. Please help. Thanks in advance
Update: so I was able to revert back to factory settings and still kept ICS on it. The only major thing that I had changed before this incident was I downloaded Beats Audio Driver Root from the Google play store. I should've backed up, I know, bad NooB.
But can anyone tell me about the /emmc and /data folders or whatever not wanting to mount or read? Is that because of the driver?

I've got to tell you that you dodged a huge bullet here. What was about to happen to you is the dreaded Encryption Unsuccessful bug that has been plaguing the Vibrant, Captivate and a slew of other devices. It is totally fixable. There is a workaround using your External SD but as for a cure, there is none. Some people have miraculously come out of it, but no one knows why and it is not reproducible.
Here is my guide for installing ICS from Éclair. Read the whole thread from start to finish. It is only 19 pages and there is a crap-ton of information in there. From Bootloaders, to ROMs, to the EU bug.
You can also go into my Repo thread or N00B_IN_N33D's Bible for any files that you may need.
I see you are in Cincinnati. If you ever need some hands on help, shoot me a PM and I might be around to help. When I first got into Android, I had a Motorola and joined XDA. Had a few guys hand-hold me threw some things but there were about 4 guys that were local in the boards. So that was a bit reassuring.
Skinzy98 - I took your advice on upgrading to JellyBean and it's pretty groovey. I appreciate the advice on that. Of course I did some dumb stuff first: I got all the files on my external SD card and forgot to put them on my internal SD card and then proceeded to do my wipe for factory reset, cache, and the delvik cache. Genius I know right?
Luckily I did a backup first but I got stuck in the boot loop. And as luck would have I still had the zip files from I originally rooted this phone from eclair to cm to ICS. So I tried the ICS zip... Boot loop again... Then I tried the cm9 zip and by George I got somewhere with it lol. And am now sending this with jellybean 4.2.1. I believe I am now an expert on how not to do this lol.
I did experience some initial difficulty with installing jellybean tho. The first time there was some error. The second time it got stuck on the a sung Vibrant load screen. And third time's a charm and bit worked out wonderfully.

I haven't needed to use the GPS. Come to think of it, it didn't come with the AngryGPS app that I had on ICS Passion. I had no problems with gps with that app. The only time I have used the GPS since upgrading to JB is while I was using the GasBuddy app which uses my GPS location to find nearby gas stations and show me the pricing. What can I say? I'm a penny pincher. It seemed to follow me alright, but I can neither confirm nor deny without using an actual GPS app. Anyone know where I can get and how upload a copy of AngryGPS? I'm all ears.
Update:
Nevermind I found one a really good one. It's dead on where I'm at. Only took a couple of seconds to locate me. I am currently having no issues. I can test it out tomorrow on my way to work and so forth.
The GPS worked great the whole time. The only issue j experienced was trying to wake it up. It just wouldn't pull up my lock screen when it the power button. Not sure if that's an issue j can fix or not.
