[Q] Unlagfix eugene_373's rom? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Must I unlagfix eugene_373's Franklin Twiz rom before flashing another rom? if so how? he has directions in his OP on how to install, but not to revert.
Thanks
defcon

I have applied that lagfix many times and I would just flash another ROM on top of it. It would undo the lagfix when I flashed the new rom. Quadrant benchmarks were back to ~800. And SD Card capacity was back to normal.

really unhappy with ji6... downgrade question

I am unhappy with ji6, my gps and compass no longer work and i've had nothing but problems since the update. also the call waiting dial screen lag sucks. I would like to go back to my previous rom which was basically stock rooted with ji2 gps fix and accurate battery mod. I have this saved as a backup, but I am afraid to flash it. When I flashed the new ota update it bricked my phone. I was unble to load my previous backup through clockwork recovery. I had to completely wipe my data and start over. any advice on the safety of trying to flash back to my backup rom, will it conflict with the ji6 framework?
Thanks
There should be no issues at all. I assume you still have the stock kernel too... if you had an oc kernel I would go back to stock first.
just go to rom manager and click on restore, then select your old backup... should take you to cwr and reboot when done.
My first thought was to download a custom rom. I just flashed bionix 1.7 and it seems much better than stock JI6.
I would really urge doing that...
yeah, maybe i'll try bionix first, It's just that I was really happy with the way it ran before this stupid update.
I also was fond of my setup before the update. Bionix made it better again. Hope you like it, worst case go back to stock.
I will say I would make sure you can revert to stock from bionix. I have seen a number of posts with issues, but that may be from people who had the oc kernel? I can't say with certainty.
Same here, i flashed bionix (first time using bionix) I flashed bionic 1.7 w ji2 modem oc/uv no voodoo and this thing flies! Gps is fine, navigation is usable.

I tried flashing back to my backup...(stock, rooted with bat mod and ji2 gps fix) and it got stuck in the vibrant startup screen, same as when I ran the ota. I guess my previous setup is no longer an option. Before I try another rom and have to redo all of settings and apps again, I would like to try to at least get the gps working on the ota ji6. Any advice on how to do that would be appreciated. So far I have tried all of the things I was able to find in other threads...deleted gps data, made sure lbstest settings are stock, turned off wireless, etc. I still get no locks at all.
Is bionix really that good? I'm considering it. I'm on my stock rom, stock kernel.
I think i'm going to try it out.

Want to try other Roms

Hello guys. I currently have Eugene Gingerbread Clone R2 Rom with JL4 Voodoo Lag Fix on my Vibrant.
I want to try other roms for fun. I have some apps and my contacts and stuff backed up and also the entire rom itself. i also have the Stock (Rooted) Backed up as well. My question is how do i go about going back to the "Stock Rooted" safely without using the odin program.

Well, assuming you have ALL of your apps and data and contacts and such backed up with Titanium Pro (make sure, you don't want to lose this stuff!), just reboot into clockwork recovery.
NEXT DISABLE VOODOO OR DIE.
I'm also assuming you made a backup of your "stock rooted rom" with Clockwork Mod Recovery? Now, just reboot into that green clockwork recovery and go to nandroid or backup and restore and click RESTORE.
Yes i have my stock rooted backed up and also my gingerbread rom backed up as well and also some of the important apps and my contacts backed up.
I will give it a try now.
I don't think it worked lol. Screen shows "Searching"
Sweep screen to unlock but screen is black and i cannot do anything.
cannot seem to get back to recovery either
Bob forgot a very important step, flashing a 2.1 kernal...
Best way out is to just flash another Froyo rom through clockwork since you don't want to mess with Odin.
I recommend Axura 2.2.5.7 as well as Nero V3. Go get those and see what you think.
*Edit* just saw your post 1min before mine. You may be using Odin after all.
Ok Thx. Makes sense lol
Nah i only use Rom Manager.
Ok i'm back to my Gingerclone.. I'm going to find Eclair 2.1 kernel, i assume thats the one i need to get and yes i will make sure to disable voodoo before i flash the 2.1 kernel .
Thx.

If you just want to flash other roms, you don't have to return to 2.1 IMO.
Just backup everything (Titanium/Nand/Launcher Pro if used), then clear data and cache in clockwork. After that go to install zip from SD and select the new Rom which should be sitting on your internal 16g memory and let it do it's thing.
Ok well i tried other roms. I tried Nero V3, That one was bad, internet was uber slow and Gps doesn't work.
I tried Axura 2.2.5.7, Worked very well except Gps also does not work.
Right now i'm going to stick with my Gingerbread R2 as for everything works extremely well.

How to Install AOSP ROMS?

I have tried for the past 4 hours to install the AOSP MIUI ROM. I have tried a newer recovery, a mtd kernel. No luck. I install the rom in CWM 2.5, but it boot loops at that point and states that the sd card can not be mounted. It then counts down to 20 and resets over and over. Can anyone shed light and provide steps?
Well the first thing I would do for yourself is to Odin back to stock using the 2.2 pit file as well as odining the stock 2.2 ROM. Make sure you repartition as well so that everything is formatted!!! This will solve SO many issues and give prospective forum members a place to start with your problems you are having.
2.2 Pit file - http://download180.mediafire.com/09z...atlas_v2.2.pit
2.2 stock froyo - http://www1279.megaupload.com/files/...EL.tar.md5.tar
I am going to assume you have odin and not link a download simply for the fact that if you have read ANYTHING pertaining to CM7 or MIUI in our forums you should be well aware of how to use it.
After wiping you will need to flash the modem you want via odin. They are located in the sticky in the dev thread.
After this you will need to flash the CWM that is located in the CM7 or MIUI threads themselves.
here is a link : cwm3_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar
Use odin to flash it, then simply flash the AOSP package of your choice from the their respective threads here in the forums.

Also worth noting that I missed in the first post. You mentioned CWM 2.5....sadly this will not work nor will it work with any other CWM floating around. The ONLY way currently to flash it is with the CWM I linked above. These are from JT and fixed to work with the AOSP ROMs.
from JT himself
*** The recoveries attached below are ONLY to be flashed on a BML ROM, ie: touchwiz based ROM or earlier, non-MTD CMx ROM. DO NOT FLASH THEM IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ON CM7 OR MIUI MTD ROMS! ***

Thank you, I tried to use the new recovery provided by JT, alas it did not work for MIUI, I will try again tomorrow when spirits are higher, I usually start from DL09 and OTA my way back to ED04, Do i have to stay on EB01 or can i use ED04, and yes i am familiar with odin. Thanks again my friend.

Don't quote me.... It shouldn't matter (EB01, ED01, ED04...etc) All that is needed is the updated recovery to run the package install. The package will format your filesystem so your version should not matter. If you are referring to the modem... its your preference. I am on EC01 but last time I was on like ED04 or something...
Might also try flashing CM7 first, booting in, then flashing MIUI since they use the same BML format.
Still no dice, I'm sick of trying this, I have Odined back to 2.2 around 10 times already. A good write-up is definitely necessary.
What kernal are you loading with ED04, etc.. before trying CM7?
Stock as i think i read that the rom includes a kernel, should i try a MTD kernel and then flash CM7/MIUI?
No, I was just making sure you weren't loading any voodoo kernals.
When I had issues loading MIUI, I went all the way back to the DI01 all in one rom (odin) then DL09, then CWM Fix all (3.x), then MIUI. Load the rom before you load the MIUI cwr.
I'm having major problems too. I've tried about every method to get onto CM7, but I either end up with boot loops or get stuck on the GalaxyS/CM7 boot screen for a long time (over 30 minutes).
I've started from almost every platform (stock back to DI01, comrom, evil, ....)
Used JT's cwm and still no go. I've rebuild my partitions in both odin and heimdall, I don't know what else to try myself.
I've gotten to the same place with the Galaxy S and Cyanogen screen, help is appreciated.

Need help going from CommRom 2.1 to TSM Resurrection 1.2

Hi,
My wife's phone is a fascinate. I want to confirm I'm doing the right steps to go from Commrom 2.1 to the latest TSM.
The phone has recovery version 3.0.?.? and I think commrom uses voodoo lagfix.
Do these steps sound right?
Take a nandroid backup.
Do a Titanium backup.
Download Resurrection V1.0 Ei20 (full rom) and save to SD card
Download Resurrection V1.2 patch and save to SD card
Download GeeWiz 2.1 kernel
Boot to recovery and turn off Voodoo lagfix
wipe cache/davlik cache
select install from sdcard for V1.0 Ei20
Let phone boot
wipe cache/davlik cache
select install from sdcard for V1.2 patch
Let phone boot
Reboot and install GeeWiz 2.1 kernel from recovery
Let phone boot
Restore apps using Titanium
See smile on Wife's face!

that should work, but i think your wife will complain about the random reboots that tsm res has. I would look up the awsome sauce rom on rootzwiki or superclean3!
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10490-romawesome-sauce-eh09-fasc-touchwiz/
I did a quick glance at the instructions for the ROM you recommended Awesome Sauce and was wondering... why do some ROM's require flashing back to stock and others need Odin and others can just flash from the sd card thru recovery?
Also, I think the random reboot issue you mention is solved in the latest TSM 1.2 patch.

Read thru the tsm res thread... folks are still getting reboots. Its a common problem on eh09/ei20. I would probably go with superclean if it was my wifes phone. Some roms are .tar files wich can only be odined, some roms are zip files that are flashed in cwm.... pretty much up to the dev. Fwiw It's always best to odin a stock package first before upgrading to any rom. Just insures a clean install. Your method should work, but odining back to stock eh03 first, then odin cwm and flash tsm res or superclean would be better. Directions can be had in section 2 of my guide in general section. Imo that method will pretty much eliminate any chance of issues.
Thanks. I'll take a look.
To be honest, my head is mush with too many choices. Just to help me get an understanding, aside from the random reboots for TSM, why would one pick superclean over tsm res 1.2 or vice versa?

Just because its more stable since its based off of leaked verizon gingerbread(eh03), instead of ported gingerbread eh09/ei20. I think nitsuj is going to rework tsm res and base it off of eh09 soon tho.
We went with Superclean3 as suggested and I think we'll stay there.
I'm getting familiar with the different launchers.
My wife didn't like the default launcher that SC has, so she had me put the stock launcher back. Unfortunately, the widgets disappear on boot with that launcher. We're now onto Touchwiz4. We'll see how it goes.
Can the apps at the bottom of the screen be customized?
I should probably start a new thread on that.

Go into app launcher, select View Type from menu and choose Customizable grid. Then hit menu again and choose Edit. You can now drag/drop app shortcuts to the bottom drawer.
I am coming off of CommRom 2.1 also been about six months since I've been on xda real busy so first go around was pretty shoddy had to flash some stuff twice. switched to CM7 just to try it out. Ultimately went to TSM Resurrection 1.2. I did have some battery problems right away, not wanting to recognize my aftermarket. All it took was the KGB-I500-1202 kernel from comradesven, thanks to nitsuj17 for putting it in the FAQ. Runs like a champ now!
I was wondering where would be a good place to start for some performance apps? Clueless on whats been working really good for people lately. I'm at the point where my headache feels like its going to split me in half.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Passion 10.6 to Bionix Nextgen2

Hello,
I'm new to rooting hence I'm asking this question just to be safe.
I had Installed passion 10.6 through this route. Stock-2.1>CM7 Gingerbread>10.6. Every time I just wiped cached and installed the ROM form the zip.
What I want to know is if I changed my kernel?
I was reading on the instructions to install bionix and it was mentioned that one would have to disable the lag fix etc or disable vodoo. Do I need to worry about this or should I just flash bionix rom using the zip?
I'm not even sure my question makes sense. Thanks.
If you're thinking of going from passion to bionix then you should odin back to stock just be safe. If you odin back to stock you shouldn't have worry about the lagfix.
You can check what kernel you have by going to settings->About phone->Kernel Version. (i.e. mine is 3.0.1.5-ICUP ICS-Streamline #1). But if you odin to stock, this won't make a difference as flashing bionix will also flash the new kernel they have with the ROM.
Hope I helped a little.
You have to odin to jfd with re partion checked coming from ics, miui, or cm7. The partions are different on non touch whiz roms

Thanks so much. Learning something new everyday.
Can't help but wonder, why are you flashing back to 2.2?
I so wish I did not have to. My battery wouldn't last on passion 10.6 and GPS wouldn't work. So for the time being I'm trying something else. Will try passion again next week(now that I'm hooked ) but I need a working phone in the next week
