Loose chrome? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So the chrome on my samsung vibrant seems to (have become?) be quite loose in 2 different spots and thus makes plasticky creaks whenever I hold the phone. I was wondering if this was a common issue but more importantly, how people are resolving the issue. I was considering clear taping the edge under the battery cover but that would probably be even more distracting to me quite honestly. All serious suggestions are welcome.

Never had that problem. Id just look into a return.

Yeah had mine since launch day and mine has been loose since then I made a post a while ago people say that you have to use a jewelers screw driver and tighten the screws under the battery cover I tried it it got a little better try looking for my post "loose trim"

Alright thanks, I'll be sure to pick up one of those jewelers screwdriver sets on the way home. But just in case that doesn't help, do you think they will let me exchange my vibrant for a new one? This is already my second vibrant and I think I'm well outside the original's return period.

Dust Under Screen?!

I dont know why it is with these newer model phones, but just from the suggestion posts that came up when i entered the title of this thread, but My LGOT and i guess even the G2 have an issue where dusts starts to build up under the sceen....
Ive only had my phone for a little over 2 weeks, but even after the first couple days, i noticed that there were already a few trickles of dirt right around the middle of my screen.
I guess my main question is, is there anything i can do about this, has anyone had the same troubles, and what can we do to prevent this from happening?
In Thailand this is general problem of LG Optimus One
you should contact LG Customer support
they'll open your phone and blow dust out
if dust cause touchscreen malfunction they'll change new one for you
some people guess that dust already in the phone due to assembly process from factory
some guess maybe dust go through usb port
I have my phone since 2 days and i already have a dust spot in the lower right corner. This is annoying! If this spot is growing i will contact the costumer support.

I am working on dusty area, but no dust under screen. Phone is 1 month old.
Me I have not this problem, but remains me the same issue with the iPhone 2/3 (google iphone dust screen).
I think it's a common problem with capacitive screen, but no "easy" solutions to fix it...
poor construction quality, imho.

this is one of those instances where a really cheap phone shows its faults. the phone is free on contract and little of $200 without. with it being so incredibly cheap, there is going to be something wrong that causes concern.
Im okay with it happening as long as it gets fixed and the problem is acknowledged by both LG and the phone carriers. it seems like many people are having this problem at the moment and T-Mobile is willing to exchange it in store, so good on them for being considerate.
i have the same issue. Don't know how to prevent that

No dust here either. I have a silicon case, I don't think it helps very much.
just disassemble it. There is no warranty seal. You'll find the dust inbetween the lcd screen and the capacitive overlay.

Hi! please tell us how to do it!
I too have this problem Can any one please let us know how to get rid of it.
I have the same problem with my Optimus One, dust is starting to gather on the right bottom corner and it seems to have increased since the first time I saw it. I've thought about buying a can of compressed air and trying to blow it near the edge of the screen but maybe that will just make it spread even further.
I've also thought about unscrewing the screws on the back panel of the phone and clean it but I'm afraid that it will affect the capacitive screen in some way making it less responsive and that after I assemble it back together it'll become even less air tight and thus accumulate even more dust.
Maybe I'll reclaim my warranty but I'll have to un-root my phone and wipe it clean before leaving it at the store and it's going to be a pain in the ass to reinstall everything when it returns.
Will they replace the mobile for this problem?
You can back up everything by titanium backup and copy the titanium backup folder from sd to your pc or pen drive. In your newly replaced phone you can copy back this folder to sd card and after installing titanium backup application you can restore everything.

[Q] Strange screen problem

Hello everyone!
I'm new here, and don't normally post on forums about technical issues (too nervous!) but something very odd came up on my Galaxy s2 today and my google-fu has failed me so far in finding anything similar.
I got it at the beginning of September this year, keep it in one of those leather wallet cases to protect it (and a screen protector), and during the day it mainly just sits on my desk at work. For some reason however, today, this just appeared (see attachments).
It's a small, lilac-purple smudge in the lower right hand corner. It doesn't move when the screen moves, and the touchscreen still works just fine. You can also still see images below it, it just tints them purple. It's less visible when the screen is brighter, but still kind of there.
I have turned it off an on again, turned it off and removed the battery, and left it off for a while to cool down. It was still there when I turned the phone back on.
As far as I know there is no water damage, and I don't believe it has been in contact with any magnets (apart from the mini one that clasps the case shut). I'm completely baffled! Is it a defect, or something I've somehow managed to cause? I've tried to be very careful, as I know what a klutz I am! The phone is also not rooted or hacked in any way.
If anyone has any thoughts or advice, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you very much
I think is magnet

I wondered the same thing, but I left it on a table next to my bed overnight and it seems to have gotten worse - the purple has spread further on to the screen.

to which is why never used a case with magnet.
OP:
It will get progressively worse even if magnet is no where near now.
The purple tint on the entire screen is definitely a defect... get it changed from the Samsung Service Centre! Even I had this problem and my phone atm is at the Service Centre...
There are lot of quality control issues with the SGS2 display...
Never a Samsung again!

"TXTING AND DRIVING - - - IT CAN WAIT" permanent imprint on my screen.

I was so happy with my Note. Great battery life, fast response, minimal/no black crush... and then something caught my eye when I loaded up the Google Play app. For a split second while the background was changing, I noticed the faint imprint of the "Texting and driving it can wait" sticker that comes affixed to the phone when I first bought it. I thought I was seeing things.
Then I loaded up the S-Memo app where it has a tan background and is easy to see screen damage. I deleted my s-memos to get a clear picture of the screen, and sure enough I clearly see the entire imprint of the sticker that comes affixed to the phone. I tried cleaning it, rubbing it, yelling at it, and nothing made it go away, It's permanent. I don't even drive!
What the hell?! Has anyone else noticed this? Try it -- go into your S-memo app and delete enough of your picture memos so the tan background is showing. Anyone else have screen damage?
I apologize for the tone of my first post -- this is already my first replacement Note as the first had a dead/hot pixel cluster that was instantly visible upon powering up the phone.
Off to Best Buy tomorrow to get a replacement.
Edited to include a photo of the issue.

you can get a new one though. do it up man. this phone is GREAT.

How does that even happen?
It's not residue on the screen is it?
Guess they were trying to get there point across lol. I would try Goo Gone before returning it.
Goo gone is sone amazing stuff, but I personally try to not use chemicals on any electronics anymore... too many companies are using exotic films on the glass these days. If your return wont be that hard, i'd just do that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
wtf? How would that even happen? It's just a vinyl sticker!
Naw man, that's whack - go exchange it. I can't even imagine what that phone went through to get a permanent imprint from the sticker on it.
Er.... have you removed the sticker..???

You know your note is a really Smart phone if its trying to tell you something. On a serious note, hope you got an exchange from BB.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
How could this possibly happen? Because it's not like it's stencil letters, it comes on one vinyl strip
Only way I could see this happening is if you left the sticker on and set it outside in the sun for days
Exchange it!
Or try Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser
I would just replace it. Using any form of chemical or magic eraser could potentially cause damage, which could void your warranty. My experience with Best Buy exchanges, they are really good about it, as long as there is no damage to the device. It's not worth the risk. It sucks that this happned to you, but you have to admit, of all the possible flaws on a phone, you got the king of them all.

After seeing this thread I had to check mine (doesn't appear on mine).. That is one freakish issue and definitely should be exchanged.
Keep us informed on how you make out.
No way would I even attempt to clean it, just return it.
To answer some questions: Yes, I took the sticker off, but only after using it with it on for a couple days until my screen protector arrived. I was very careful about using it and, this may not show in the picture, but the ENTIRE protector is imprinted on the screen INCLUDING the border.
I truly have no idea what caused this, my only guess is a manufacturing defect. Off to Best Buy now. I'll report back with my non-cursed Note *knocks on wood*
Also, thanks to you all for the many lulz this thread has provided me in my "fist-world sorrow."

You're joking right? You used the phone with it on there for a couple of days and are wondering why the image is burned into your phone?? Even going as far as saying your not is cursed?
My guess: You left the TXT & Drive sticker on there while using it, and the heat generated from the phone on the screen made it rub off. (like iron on graphics on a shirt). To make it worse, you put a screen protector on it further locking in the imprint for several more uses.
Mystery solved?

Is this normal for SAMOLED screen?

Hi guys,
I would really appreciate some expert advise on my screen.
It has some horizontal lines/banding running through it, near the bottom of the screen is worse, and it's worse at lowest brightness setting but is still there at 100% brightness.
Hopefully you can see them in the picture although they don't actualy look as bad in the photo as they do in real life!
I took it into the place I purchased it from and one guy told me it was my fault because I have it in my pocket all day and where I sit down and my jeans go tight it has damaged/bent the screen. I find this crazy as I don't even were tight jeans, I skateboard to and from work and actually wear quite loose clothing. Anyway where else am I supposed to keep my phone?
And another guy in the same store told me that it isn't covered under warranty because this is just something that happens with SAMOLED screens and it's something you have to live with.
I know 2 people with S2's and their screens are perfect........
Does anyone else have this issue on their screen?
Is it a normal characteristic of SAMOLED screens?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers guys
I dont know but I dont have that-my screens perfect.
From what I see its a faulty screen and Id send it to Samsung to honour their warranty.
The screen shold be faultless for the duration of the warranty period ie the last day the screen should be like the first day.
And Id have given that repair guy a slap.
It's not normal. You should send it in.

Thanks for the response guys. I guess I'll just have to persist and not take no for an answer.
The only thing that concerns me is the terrible QC on devises these days.....what on earth is going on?
If I send this back for a repair there is nothing to say I won't get a new screen with another defect, maybe a yellowish tint or some dead pixels.
I have been reading about other issues on I9100 screens and there are several.
I think it's terrible that today when we are buying a device we have to come to a site like this and research possible defects before we buy....surely this isn't right!
I was wanting to buy a Nexus 7 but after the screen issues I've read about I don't think I will.
I was also looking at buying an i9300, same thing, there are so many defects that you could come across.
When spending this sort of money on a device I really don't think this is acceptable, yet companies are getting away with it.
I'm not sure what can be done but I hope something changes and QC improves.
Right now I'm stuck with an S2 with a defective screen and I'm weighing up weather this defect is more bearable than maybe getting a new screen with a different defect.
Come on Samsung........,Sort your S**T out!

I'd just like to ask about what screen issues? I'm fairly sure all of those quality issues with the screen have been sorted out by now, regarding lift etc. Someone in my family owns a Nexus 7 and it is the smoothest performing Android tablet that I've ever seen, even more so than my TF300 that I'm typing this on (although I now have a custom ROM on it that works very quickly). The screen density is great, no lift that I can notice, and overall it is a powerhouse of a tablet!
As for the rest of the build...I'm shocked by the quality. Its extremely solid for a plastic-backed device. It almost feels like metal its so tough, although it is still soft-to-the touch (absolutely no flex, though. Zero. Zip. Just soft to the touch as said)

I was just over at the nexus 7 thread and the first 2 stickies in the general section are dedicated to problems, kinda put me off.
By the sounds of it your family member got lucky with their N7.
Just go to the N7 forum and have a read, the problems still aren't fixed in the latest batch.
Anyway this is kinda off topic so best to discuss in the N7 forum.

Theyll probably just load stock 4.0.4 onto it-that was their attempt to fix my wifes overheating/freezing s2.
I would email samsung directly and put it back. And dont settle for any half arsed repair, make sure your satisfied.Only downside is the time the phone is away from you cos its an inconvenience.
They also like to get out of warranty with the usual "water damaged" excuse.
On a side note, they locked horns with me-and lost.Bought a phone from a catalogue company(the overheating one),wasnt happy so bought a note, complained and the £450 for the s2 was refunded, and the girl told me "to destroy the phone" rather than sending it back.
Loaded rootbox/dk and its perfect.Gave it to my son just to use for shooting videos.
Yeah that's what I thought they might do, I don't care what firmware they put on it I'll just restore my CWM back up when I get it back.
I hope they don't leave that diagnostics box thing on the screen though, that sounds like right mission to have to remove.
In fact the guy in the shop I bought it from said a factory reset would fix it, the muppet, It is clearly a faulty screen.
Mine was having some overheating issues too when I first bought it and I took it in a week after purchase and he said there's nothing I could do because I had installed a custom ROM, I hadn't, it was Go Launcher I installed. Just goes to show how much this guy knows!
I actually bought this phone on 14th March with ICS installed straight out of the box, which was weird, it was obviously a very early release (LP2) and was why the phone was over heating.
Overheating is normally a kernel/ROM issue so your very lucky you got to keep your S2. Score!
Hopefully if I return it they'll realise it IS a faulty screen and just replace it, like I said though it's a bit of a gamble with S2 screens it seems.
I just don't think issues like these should be this common on expensive, high end devices.

I keep my eye on most hardware problems and Ive seen a lot more successes (screens)than failures....prob 85% happy.
Make sure no traces of rooting etc is on your phone when sending it back.
Good luck!
I'd say it's faulty screen. Mine has no such artefacts...
Oh, and I carry my SGS2 in trouser pocket, often bundled with companys Blackberry...
Pretty sure there are no characteristics of SAMOLED to deteriorate over time. I use mine lowest brightness all the time and car in pockets etc and screen is a clean white with no visible lines.
I think I'll bite the bullet and part with my S2 for 2 weeks while it's repaired
If I'm wanting to remove all traces of root etc I was planning to:
Boot in recovery and then format cache, system, data and internal storage. Then flash my countries latest stock firmware package.
Is that all I need to do?

My S2 and my wife's S2 have absolutely flawless screens. Not a single thing wrong with it. Id say take it back and don't take no for an answer because the screen has to be perfect.

Dont know abou you guys, but from what i've read Super AMOLEDs do get burn-ins.
I played poker on my sgs2 really long, and now the cards are burnt into the screen. I have yellow tint in the middle of the screen, looking like 5 playing cards. Also the place where the statusbar is, shows blue tint on completly white background.
Do you have any app that matches your screen faulty pixels? Maybe keyboard or something? I have an app called Super Manager and with that i can make the whole screen white, grey, black, and RGB, so you could further inspect it.
Let us know if warranty will cover the burn ins, or if there's some problems... good luck with unrooting, oh and dont forget to reset the custom rom/kernel counter with triangle away.

I'm sorry to say this...
Well, regrding the screen issues on the SGS2...
AMOLED's and derivates from it (SAMOLED, etc...) do suffer from the burn-in effect commonly found on older PLASMA screen TV's and displays.
When I first bought this phone, I only saw it's benefits regarding to it's brightness, colors etc...
But after few months have passed I've noticed that when I have full white (or bright) page open on my phone's browser, I see ghost from an android keyboard and at about half of the screen I could see shadows of widgets that I normally use!
So I ran the *#00#* test and, indeed, there were alot of artefacts on the screen. As of today, I'm reconsidering my purchase of this, otherwise excellent phone, and thinking of switching it for some of the competitors in the line of existence.
Really, it is very dissapointing fact that device like this, which should be top of the line product, suffers from a issue like this!
Currently I'm browsing the adds in search for somethin similar that will replace my SGS2 and with much hope without, ghosts on the screen... :crying::crying::crying:

Just bought one and already had to exchange

Today I went to best buy to buy this because they price matched letstalk to 199$. The woman I delt with sighed and ughed the whole time. Really rude. I ended up adding a line. Burning a sim. And moving the phone to my main line to get the upgrade.
Now I noticed this when I got home but im disappointed in build quality. I dont know if it was me snapping the back cover back on. But the top of my screen was loose. And the bottom leaked light from the leds because well..the glue holding the screen clearly was not that good. I immediately called back and was upset and went to exchange and now im all fine.
But now im paranoid about snapping back in my back cover. How cheaply made is this thing? Anyone run into hardware issues yet? Best buy has a 30 day exchange policy. Thank god.

I can assure you that this is NOT a normal issue with this phone... But, if you don't think something is right about it then you have every right to exchange! It's YOUR money and if your not happy then exchange away...

Samsung's thin battery covers are reasonably robust regarding battery removal and handling. Even improperly installed, the plastic has given and snapped into place. I owned a Charge and Galaxy Nexus with similar battery covers and I have never broken a tab.
I have (3) batteries for my Note 2 and swap every other day without worry of breaking anything. Samsung knows removable covers...
