Bricked phone (Tryed Flashing Stock with Odin) Help Please :( - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Rooted my phone today and messed around with it a little and flashed Kingklick's Kernel, and while messing around with it I (Like an idiot) flashed JAC's Kernel right over it , But Im guessing this is what bricked it, it hung at the samsung galaxy S screen ... then I tryed flashing the Stock .tar file using Odin, but with no luck it boots up normally until after the Galaxy S boot screen and the screen goes black but the 4 touch buttons on the phone light up please help.
PS. I have been searching this forum for hours for a solution, and excuse me if this is in the wrong section I am new to XDA.

You didn't brick it. It's almost impossible to brick this phone. Just do a complete Factory flash with odin, 512 pit file, and tar file; then you should be ok

I think I did that and the same is still happening, but can you give me a link to the Complete Factory Flash, you are referring too because I tried both of the ones in the Vibrant Bible.

Try doing the Eugene's froyo that does not brick.. then install stock 2.1, you must have odin to do all this..

Follow the steps in the first post. I just did the same thing lasdt night and this fixed it.

IT WORKED THANKS !!!!
Moderators, please close this thread as it is Solved

The same thing happened to me yesterday..flashed kk kernel over JACs OV/UV voodoo and soft bricked my phone. Nothing worked until I did flashed Eugenes froyo that won't brick and then flashed back to stock 2.1.
Worked perfectly! You can find everything you need in the vibrant bible..careful about posting stuff in the dev section like this...usually go to the Q&A or the V Bible. You can get a lot of flack from people for posting in the wrong forum. Just a little FYI, hope this helps and I'm sure the fix will work....like above said its almost impossible to brick this thing...

Glad you got it working again!!

I was about to make a thread in Q&A because I'm having the same problem as the OP was having.
For the life of me I cannot get adb to recognize my Vibrant, also, when I try and put the phone into download mode I get nothing. Phone Will boot up, go through the bootanimation, and once I get to the home screen everything goes black with the capacitive keys lit up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
On a side note: I had an Epic not too long ago and had nothing but problems with the Drivers. 32 bit.
Thanks in advance.

What I do to get into download mode is connect they phone to thee computer (while it is off) and wait until the battery meter comes on. Once the battery meter comes on I hold the volume up and down key and the power key until the battery meter goes away and comes back again(keep holding the keys) but right when the battery meter goes away again let go of the power button (but still hold the volume keys) and you should bee in download mode then you can let go of thee volume keys and run odin.

dl mode
1 phone off
2 odin on
3 take out battery sim and memory card
4 plug usb in
5 hold down both volume keys down(only) while reinserting battery only
this works to get me into DL mode everytime.
Hope it works for you.

vibrant brick pls help

hi all, i would like to ask you for a help with my vibrant. I just purchased it and successfully made the root and unlock. I managed to do both even tho my hardware button keys does not support the recovery mode. Any holding of the buttons will not allow the phone to go to recovery mode, this is not working even with an odin. After i did the root and unlock i downloaded the rom manager, created a clockwork image and back up i tried to make the partition of my 16gb SD card using the rom manager. After this my phone restarted but after t mobile logo and galaxy s logo the phone screen stays black. Tried all thee methods to go into the recovery mode but was not able to do it. i searched this forum also but was not able to find similar case to this one. i would be very thankful for any advice.
You'll have to get T-Mo to exchange it.

thanks to this instructions i was able to use odin but this did not change the satus of my phone?????
unfortunately cant i did not buy it in the store
NEVER use rom manager to partition your SD card. Try the steps in this thread
thank you, trying to do it now
a friend of mine bricked his phone and it boot up to the "S" screen then go black after a min. i flashed it using oden and the T959UVJFD file but i got the same results when trying to boot up again. it wasn't my phone and i had already sent the guy to get a new one, but i just started flashing it with all the vibrant oden roms i could find... non of them worked. i really didnt care any more so i was just playing around with the phone and flashed a i9000 rom, of corse it didnt work but when i flashed it back with the T959UVJFD file it worked.... i dont know if it would work out for you i just wanted to share the story... good luck
thank you, unfotunatelly i am stuck with HW keys problem againm!!!!
i follow the steps from the post 4 from @Alkaloid and now from dead i am at froyo and will hang here for a while cause at least for a week dont want to flash nothing. Boy what a day, 12 hours fixing this samsung!!!
Ivuso, how did you get in to download mode? I tried everything from every single thread here that mentions how to get in to download mode..

how did u manage to do that
You do not have to exchange it the same thing happened to me. You just need to use odin to flash the stock rom onto it. Its really easy. Youtube it
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
if you have the hardware keys lock the only way to get to download modwe is through odin. For me worked this.
start odin, fil pit and pda
remove battery
usb in the computer
hold volume buttons
put battery in - phone is showing just the battery charging status
disconnect usb and than fast connect back
now you are able to flash froyo from the the 4th post in this thread, once finished you will be in download mode but need to reboot with adb cause hardwate "enter" button will not work
GOODLUCK

[Q] Messed up Vibrant t959 with i9000 rom. . . assistance in fixing please?

Alright.. was half asleep and put the i9000 on my t959. Used odin, re-part'd, the whole nine yards.
Obviously, i can not root it using the update.zip method. When in recovery down is up, up is down, and power button does NOT select. So i can not apply it. I am quickly learning everything i need to work on this. However, I need some pointers, maybe hints on where to proceed to get this back to at least a semblance of "working". I tried to flash back to a standard rom, and i get constant recovery-boot screen. Odin back to the i9000 and at least the phone boots fully.
I need to get this back to at least a semi-original rom so I can root and apply the correct t959 build to the phone. Sooo... help a newb out. I have spent the last day and a half downloading trying various options, going in all directions, and getting nowhere. I have attempted to apply via Odin, and borked things up pretty good, but not so much I can not recover, just need some directions. I have just rebuilt my laptop to a standard XP Pro with all updates, and patches. Updated Java JDK, the Android SDK, and Kiess. I can attach and see the phone using ADB without issue. As best I can tell, i have a "clean" kitchen setup to do what I need.
Please help a new get his feet wet without drowning this time!
Thanks guys.

go into download mode by (with the phone off) holding down vol up and down and plug in usb cable. Then flash jfd (which is found in vibrant bible) stock firmware via odin.

This, just ODIN back using this link I guess:
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
Just make sure you DO NOT select repartition and take out your SIM card... You don't need to select repartition unless you really **** your phone up.
You guys are brilliant.... and i am sure a few hours sleep and some caffiene helped a lot as well...
Back to the stock t-mobile, no issues no hicups.
Been scouring the bible, and playing around with some roms. Using the search a lot better, thanks for the patience in a moment of panic.. you all are great!
Now to get back to trying and turn this thing into a real decent phone again
Time to feed the custom rom addiction some more!
i did the same to my t959
i did the same thing but it wont let me put the t959 into download mode, even when i hold both up and down and plug in the usb. Can you guys help me please.

Dude, you are a lifesaver with the GB boot loader combo. I was ready to chuck this thing into the garbage. Thank you.

Is it bricked?

my vibrant will not do anything... how do i know if i can fix it?
Use odin to restore it back to stock firmware
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
-Pull out your battery, sd card, and sim card
-Press & hold volume up and down keys at the same time.
-While holding the volume keys, plug usb cord into your phone with other end plugged into your pc (computer).
-Still holding volume keys, now slip your battery into your phone.
-Its a little tricky but after a few attemps you should get your vibrant into download mode.

ok thanks to Doecheese i can get into download mode but i can't get past factoryfs when trying to flash it, i had the cyanogen-mod beta 3 on it before trying to flash and i have tried this like 10 times with it getting stuck every time, oh i have repartition checked to.
Which firmware are you using, jfd or ji6?
Probably ji6 if he odined back to stock. I think its the most common

I think it will help if you placed all the files on odin first and then but your phone into download mode. Sometimes it helps having all the files ready before you connect your phone to odin.
I had the same problem... (couldn't get past rfs in odin). It was my usb cord. The ones they give you with the phone don't last. I bought another one from best buy. Worked perfect.

Ok I'll walk you through this. First download vibrant tool box
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
Next pull battery. hold both volume buttons and plug in your usb cord. This should put you in download mode. once there choose flash stock in tool box and it will walk you through the steps to flash stock back on there. Once done you can use it to root your phone and flash whatever custom ROM you want.
If you need more help PM me. I'm not as big of a noob as I use to be =)
forgot a step download odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821625
Then do as I said with the battery and toolbox =)
yeah i have tried odin and it still gives me the black screen with lower buttons lite up.

u might b doing something wrong because i had the exact same problem and they told me to odin and i didnt know what was that and they guided me and its really simple..... jst open odin...... get your fone in download mode... choose the PIT file and then the PDA file and select them in the right place..... but before you do all of that check if your fone is regiterd with a yellow box on ODIN.. once the box turns yellow it means that your fone is connected then hit start once you selected the appropiate files and then it should b doing its job... thats all i do and it never fails me..... if you think you dont have the right files ill email them to you so u can download them and put them in there.....
Ok thanks. Really hope i have not taken the phrase BRICKED to a new level . LOL

[Q] I am in need of help!! Worse than a brick!

I was trying to revert my wifes phone to stock and odin would not work. I used heimdell with the wrong file. The phone now has a i9000 interface. I cant call or text because it wants a sim card which obviously is impossible. and I cant get it in download mode to put the Fascinate interface back on it. Im an idiot!

hey,
chill, user error happens. I know your wife probably can't see that right now but....
one time I did the same thing, sorta, and bricked and couldn't get into download mode. I couldn't get the phone to do anything, not even the charging animation. that is how you know its bricked.
it sat there unplugged and without a battery or sdcard for about 20 hours lifeless. I was in the process of ordering a new phone through insurance when I decided to hold my volume button down, plugged in and it was great!
once you get to this point, and you will if your phone is turning on at all its not bricked, then you will need to follow instructions for repartition like your coming off cm7mtd using a FULL BUILD like DI14 (I have a mesmerize so I'm not positive your full builds) with repartition checked using the atlas_2.2.pit file.
if that didn't work at all for you, there is a way to force download mode, using a homemade jig. google for galaxy s download mode jig if that's your only option.
good luck, and please do let us know how it goes for you. I've never used heimdall but its pretty similar to odin from what I've seen so that would probably work as well. if you're not sure if the rom you have for heimdall is a full build, open it with winrar/winzip our whatever and count how many files are inside, for me its 8 I think with full mesmerize build but we are missing one file that the fascinate build has I believe.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
perhaps if download mode is busted you could flash a fascinate rom after rooting and then boot to recovery and try flashing something a little closer to home like one of the pick n packs for the mesmerize...
but this would be one of the last things I would try, right before the homemade jig.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Are you sure you're using the right button press for i9000? Like the guy above said try Vol button down and plug in.
