I tried to flash back to stock from running ji6 using odin. Phone was not rooted. For some reason it didn't work correctly. After many trials I was able to flash ji2 and get the phone working.
My problem now is I can no longer reach download mode the way I previously could. Use to be able to have the phone off, hold down both volume keys, and plug in the usb cord and it would enter download mode. Now the only way that it works is to hold down the down volume key and the power button while the usb is not plugged in. There is also a message that displays at the top of the download mode screen now, "KeyPressed, 164". I reflashed the stock firmware and still have these issues.
Anybody seen this message and know of a way to flash the phone so these problems are back to normal.

So I was trying to get one of the simply honey roms onto my phone and long story short I accidentally formatted the internal storage of my phone with my computer therefore deleting ALL the files and folders of the android operating system! When I plug my phone into my computer i see the charging battery but non of the button combinations will allow me to get into download mode to flash it back to normal with odin. Just seeing if my phone is a lost cause or if there is a way to get the phone into download mode.
Take out battery, plug back into computer, plug back into phone, hold volume up and volume down at same time, place battery back into phone, make sure odin is up and waiting, try until it works.

tried that as well and no luck. just keeps going to the battery charging screen. When i try and turn my phone on normally it just shows Samsung Galaxy S i9000 not Vibrant and just sits there till it dies. could that be the problem?
did you try the steps while holding down just the volume down & the power button?
Just tried that same thing. Is download mode something that any android phone should go to no matter what or do the system files for th phone have to be there?
Should...how about recovery..can you get there??
unplug usb cable ..power off the phone.. hold all three buttons down...Vibrant screen will pop up & go off...then it will pop up again..release only the power button..keep both volume keys down and it should go into recovery.
you might be able to factory reset from there.
ok, got it to go into downloading mode. forgot that my phone thinks its an i9000, the volume up and down buttons are reversed! thanks so much for the help though!
So I was odin'ing back to stock from bionix (forget which) and it failed. I've done this flash more times than i can count from various ROMs, kernels, etc... and never had a problem. However this time it failed, and I can't get back to download mode.
I've found that the best way to get to download mode for my phone is to hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB. This doesn't work, I just get the " phone ! computer " screen every time. power button and bottom volume gets the same, as does power and both up and down. Power and volume up goes to the "POWER RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE" screen.
So, does anyone have any ideas aside from picking up a JIG? it's shipping tomorrow probably.
Take your phone into a T-Mobile store and tell them you flashed your phone to a custom rom and now it won't boot up. Then ask them to exchange your phone for a new one; see if that works.
Well, at least you bothered to type it out instead of copying and pasting from the other thread xP
use the search button.
If your getting the phone ! computer screen. your not bricked at all, just us Odin to flash back to stock. the Screen your seeing is just another form of download mode. but if you really want to get back into download mode, pull everything from the phone.
Sim, mem, battery.
make sure the USB is plugged into the PC with Odin open.
plug the USB into the phone.
put the battery in while holding the volume rocker and it should boot into DL right away.
I got stuck on this screen before and this saved me

I just updated to Android 2.3 but I don't like it. So I decided to flash back to 2.2 via ROM Manager. I tried to root the phone with Super One Click v1.9.1. But it got stalled at running psnueter and later gave an error message. I tried a few other tricks but nothing was working. So I decided to do the manual flash with Odin. When I tried to boot into download mode, the phone jut booted as normal. I tried by turning the phone off, plugging in the USB cable and then booting it while holding the volume buttons. I tried again using the similar method but with the battery pulled then reinserted. Again, it booted as normal. I then tried using my jtag dongle which I made a long time ago, and the phone still booted as normal. After some playing with the phone, I have found the phone doesn't seem to be entering debugging mode (when I plug in the cable with debugging mode activated, I just see a USB symbol and I can open the notifications menu and select it where it allows me to connect to phone to the computer as if in mass storage mode.) I am stuck and have no idea how to fix this. Anyone out there have any ideas?
I found out, with Gingerbread 2.3 you only hold the volume down button. Hope this helps others!
Did you perhaps also install a different bootloader? They change the shortcuts used to get into download or recovery mode sometimes, so try booting holding down just one volume up or down button.

Actually it is like this: recovery= volume down+ power and download mode= volune up+ power.

I tried rooting the phone by flashing an insecure kernel. Now I can't get the phone into download mode. Odin/Kies recognizes the phone in MTP, and windows recognized the phone under debugging/file transfer mode... but Odin won't see the phone under debug. Also, my home key now operates as the back key with no key working as home. I flashed the XWKDD insecure kernel as directed by one of the walk throughs.
Before I flashed anything I couldn't get the phone into download mode using the three button combo, but I was able to do it simply by having the phone in download mode and plugging in the USB cable.
How should I proceed? I assume I need to flash to stock and try again with another kernel, but I can't find that as an option. Is there another way to go into download mode? Please help. I still have the same captivate that I bought on release date and I would love to have a fully functional phone for the first time in over a year!
Thanks in advance!

Download mode, this has ALWAYS worked for me:
Pull battery
Reinsert battery
DO NOT HIT POWER
Hold VolUp + VolDn
Insert USB cable into phone
Phone should power up right into download mode.
Edit: Stock kernel was posted 5-10 minutes ago in dev section BTW.
Thanks! Now I'm able to get into download mode consistently... but I'm getting an error in Odin... "Can't open the serial(COM) port.". Going to try resetting the computer and phone. Unfortunately I'm just enough of a noob at this to know how to get myself into interesting predicaments haha. I had all kinds of fun playing with issues with Cognition before I finally switched over to cm7.
*edit*
I'm back to stock now, thanks again! I don't know why I didn't think to do that, that's how I used to get into download mode on my cappy. Now if only I could get the drivers to work with my phone in debugging mode...
I tried to Unroot my Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE last night and think I may have bricked my tablet. I used the instructions here on the XDA forum which had a link to all the Stock ROM's in one place. I got the most recent one and the only one for USA but it said it was for the model 7510. I didn't think that would be a problem since the USB drivers I installed on my PC were also labeled as being for the 7510 and they worked.
This tablet is the SCH-I905. Now I can't get it to boot at all. Gets stuck in a boot loop. Shows the Samsung logo, then resets and does it again. I can't get it in recovery mode either. Goes to a black screen and hangs.
Using the normal process to get to Download mode doesn't work. Holding Power and Volume Up, then letting go of the Power button, then pressing Volume Down and then Up. That's one weird thing. I can get to the option screen that shows the Download and Recovery mode options. Normally I would hit the Volume Down button to select Download mode and on the screen it says to press Volume Up to continue or Volume Down to cancel. If I press Volume Up it goes to a black screen and hangs. If I press Volume Down I get the Odin Download screen that says Waiting on USB cable.
That screen doesn't look the same as what I normally see but I'm not sure what's different. I didn't memorize each line of text. I just know there's not as much text there as there usually is. My PC will not recognize the tablet no matter which USB port I try to use and the tablet doesn't recognize that the USB cable is plugged in. I had no problem with the USB connection before I flashed the 7510 stock ROM.
So, if I cannot get to recovery mode and I can't get Download mode to work so I can use Odin to flash a different rom then is this thing bricked or is there something else I can try? I am about to try using my laptop and its USB ports but I don't think that's going to make any difference.
BTW, I have since found the correct 'stock recovery rom' at droidbasement.com and downloaded it to my PC. I just need to get on the tablet somehow.
Many people have your problem. I have my Lte verizon bricked as yours. The problem is demaged bootloader, only nvflash can fix it but actually our bootloader is locked and we need a hex key called sbk. At least we have to wait that somebody hack our tab from the basement. For now we can only search and share result.
