Ever since I updated to the JI6 update via the thread with the "all in one download" (the one with the stock image and the JI6 image and the ODIN program) I can't connect my computer to my phone's internet via KIES or Barnacle or wifi-tether, Any ideas or threads I should read?

Ditto. Tethering via kies and the apps on the market haven't worked since the ji2 update I think...
I realized there were two versions of barnacle, the "normal" versiona and the "legacy" version, The legacy version of barnacle does in fact work perfectly fine

I say go with MobileAP. Just flashed it today and confirmed working with a co-worker's laptop.
Would pre8 work for y'all?

I've read on pre9, but it seems to have some issues. No need to flash, just install apk. Alot of coders worked on this project and it works really well for those who try it.

I rooted my Vibrant, flashed JI4 via Odin 1.0.
Now, I want to upgrade to JI6 via Samsung kies.
But, not allowed.
It showing ""This device's version cannot be updated."
Someone can upgrade Vibrant to JI6 via Kies mini.
I can not update via Kies(not mini version). Anyone know why?
Thanks a lot
Another question please?
Any way to stop recharging the battery when connecting to Computer?
Thanks
Why would you want to do it via Kies?
Use Odin, look in the bible sticky for how to use it and files and the JI6 upgrade,
Also as long as usb is connected its charging, I don't think there is any way around it.
And next time Put this in Q and A, this is not development related.

If I use kies to update, I don't need to set up the phone from default
settings, right? Correct me if I'm wrong.

you may be able to odin without using the pit file. and i don't think JI6 OTA wipes anything. i know its possible to upgrade from JFD and JI5, not sure about JI4 -- i would search the forum a little to double-check.
Oh, and I upgraded my wife's phone from JI5 to JI6, no PIT, and all settings/files were intact and she has no issues at all.

Lucky for you the official JI6 update that was leaked to samfirmwares.com is a no wipe update, even in odin, so everything should still be there.
Thanks a lot, guys.
Do I have to unboot before using Kies(or mini Kies) ?
Is there a way to root the Fascinate and install Clockworkmod solely using only a MAC?? If so, HOW??.... Thanks in advance!

Really? It's that easy on EA28? I was under the impression you needed the clockworkmod kernel flashed first. Anyone else have any insight on this?
Just tried flashing via ROM Manager and it's a no go. I need to flash custom kernel and the link that is in this thread is broken

Anyone else that can help me figure out how to flash clockworkmod kernel using a MAC with no ODIN (and no I am not going to run bootcamp)

From what I've read, Heimdall (or whatever the name is) doesn't work for our phones, so Odin is the only way to flash it. Setting up a VirtualMachine and using USB-passthrough probably would work, but otherwise you'd need to find a computer that can run Odin (you'd also need to use Odin whenever you change the modem used).

Heimdall works fine with the fascinate. I haven't used odin in months, and use heimdall daily to flash test kernels and such. Not sure it works with mac though.

There has got to be another way. When using ODIN how is it flashing it to your phone? Is it possible to use ADB commands through MAC to accomplish the same thing? Also there is a way to flash the clockworkmod kernel using a MAC, instructions are posted on the previous post (link) but the link within that thread is broken, anyone have the file??

Wait? You flashed clockwork mod, followed by rebooting and then selecting the update.zip and it didn't work?

Rom Manager can only install part of CWM. The rest needs to be flashed via Download mode, such as with Odin (or that other one, apparently).

I never used Odin until my eb01 flash...fyi
I cant even get my mac to recognize my phone. I searched 3 sites yesterday and still cant get it to connect. It says the disc is not readable.
I haven't been able to find samsung drivers for MAC. I can dual boot on my mac so everything for my phone I have to switch to Windows.
Here is all you need for using your Mac to push files to your SD (when the computer won't recognize), root, flash CWM... Only thing not possible yet is flashing the radio. So if you plan to upgrade to froyo you need to at least have the DL09 radio already.
Tried the one click root and it wouldnt work...said permission denied. Tried it about 5 different ways and never got past the first step where I was supposed to drag and drop files into terminal to be pushed to sdcard. Allows denied permission...i assume I was dragging the right files into the terminal.
You need to use the manual adb rooting method when rooting in OS X. Also to flash custom kernel and recovery, you need to flash them with redbend_ua.

Just curious if anyone knows the possibility of rooting stock ka6(wifes vibrant) with my rooted vibrant running custom rom(latest Axura)? I am able to transfer busybox and superuser, neither fully installing.
Download it and place on the internal sd card..... And No, i ve never heard of anyone downloading a rom onto a phone via Bluetooth, but could be possible.
The reason for the??? Is b/c my pc had a meltdown. So odin and heim. are out of the pic.
You could use dropbox as well.

Is there a flashable version of stock eclair via the stock recovery?
If so, you could do that.... then using the phone download the update.zip to root.
THEN you could flash CWR and flash a custom ROM.
All of this could be done from the phone browser... I've never looked to see if a stock eclair was out there you could flash via stock recovery though. Check the DEV BIBLE.

How do I do this? People just say use odin. But do I need to make sure what i exactly need to do I dont want to brick my phone. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Have Odin ready.
Get the jfd file and pit from JACs thread it is in the Bible in the sticky on the development section. Once you go back to stock you will be able to root and go to a custom rom or upgrade it through kies mini

So I dont need nexus S usb drivers?
If you've never connected the device to your PC and your PC doesn't recognize your device then yes you will need them.
I run Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and I didn't have to download them for some reason, PC recognized my phone and downloaded drivers on it's own. Can't say the same for other versions though.
Just in case here is the link to drivers.

You need a working USB connection to use Odin.
You could install the Samba app or something similar on your phone, copy the ROM to it via wifi, reboot into CWM an install from there (you'll need a rom in CWM zip format).
Alternatively, given USB worked at some point (as you installed a ROM) you could try uninstalling and reinstalling Samsung Kies and the Samsung USB drivers (they install wit Kies).

Multiupload and megaupload were forced to close some time ago by the US Department of Justice and the FBI. Any links pointing at those domains will not work and it has been known for quite some time.
You can try to find stock firmwares that are still linked to those two domains with CheckFUS or at samfirmware.com.
