Hello Everyone,
Earlier I tried rooting my phone with a file I downloaded that was named r2-4399-6601-streak-superboot.zip. Basically, it worked, however I'm having the problem where the Menu and Home buttons alternate flashing very fast. Also, my menu sometimes stays lit up while the other two are dark.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem? As far as I know I am still running the stock rom with the stock baseband. If it helps, I am at build number 6601, my baseband version is GAUSB1A111231-US. My OEM version matches my Baseband, except for the -US on the end. My kernel version is 2.6.29-perf and my firmware version is 1.6
Factory restore did nothing for me, that was the first thing I tried.
If anyone can help me get rid of this annoyance that would be great. I'm trying not to update my phone to O2's 2.1 rom as I am looking forward to the 2.2 update from Dell. I'll gladly unroot my phone if needed, if someone can tell me how...
hey, there is a known problem with flashing for anyone that has upgraded to dj_steves v1.2.0 & above espcially when using rebelsim as the baseband is not compatible yet. Other than that... your description sounds just like an app i got from the market called "streakLED" which flashes all different patterns on the buttons when you receive an sms text? My home button also stays lit when i have a message.
Not sure if this helps at all but i thought i would suggest it just incase

I've been to that link... But the only fix the guy had was to install 2.1. I don't feel like going through the trouble of doing that. especially since the 2.2 update is coming soon. I feel like it might just cause trouble for me.
What suxs is that at leats urs turns on a the way my just got stuck on the Dell logo an never finishes powering on an I get the flashing buttons as well..
check the stickies thread and factory reset ur phone then use "UNIVERSAL ANDROOT" you wont get the flashing lights if you root with that app.
oh and it usually takes two or sometimes three tries to acquire root
I had this problem also. It is caused by upgrading to a new ROM which is meant for a certain baseband (00 for unlocked Streaks, 21 for UK (I believe) Streaks and 31 for US Streaks) without actually upgrading the baseband as well. For me, it has been a mystery to figure out what the sequence is to get from one baseband to another and one ROM to another. I had this problem flashing lights problem with one Streak when I tried the flash it from one ROM/baseband to another in order to get 2.2 flashed properly (You can't go from AT&T 1.6 directly to DJ Steves 1.5.1). The only thing that fixed it for me was using the QDL Tool. It took my dead Streak with flashing light with God-only-knows what baseband and ROM sequence I had tried to a fully functioning, unlocked Streak with AT&T official 2.2. From there, it was an incredibly simple flash to DJ Steve's 1.5.1 using fastboot. Then I was done. Give the QDL Tool a try if you want 2.2 and it very well might take your phone from dead and worthless to something worth carrying around in your pocket.
yeah the qdl tool is by far the most simple way to get 2.2 on you streak, which you can root without any worries. i dont think theres actually a reason to still be on 1.6.
Aummmm this is what happened. A month and a week ago from this day, I got my Dell Streak 1.6 Build 7921 in black, from Rogers Communications. My location is Canada, Ottawa. But they F'd up, by they i'm speaking about Rogers. When I called in to order the Streak, the cheapest deal I worked out was $30/1G Internet/Monthly
+ $30 for Voice plan for 3 years contract. Totoal = $60+Tax/Monthly. Two days after I got the phone, ___AWESOME__ delivery...anyways. I put my rogers sim chip inside the phone, I didn't have a voice plan nor an internet data plan. I called in, and somehow managed to get a Monthly of 1G/Internet + For the first 2 month's unlimited internet. for only $35/Monthly with NO 3 year contract.
Phone price = $99. I know... I can't believe that somehow happened.
I rooted my 1.6 Build 7921 device using Android Universal app, recently the froyo 2.2 update just came out OTA, I still got it OTA despite that I was rooted. I tried installing the 2.2 Froyo on my device and I got stuck at a blank screen for an hour. My device booted up normally back to 1.6. The next thing I did was resetting my phone to factory settings from the main menu.
I than tried installing the froyo 2.2 update.pkg from the main menu option #2. Once again it got stuck at the blank screen. Now, when I boot the phone it always gets stuck on the DELL LOGO screen. Everytime I re-try installing update.pkg, from main menu it goes to a blank screen.
I since than learned how to flash a ROM and use clockworkmod. I tried flashing 309 Recovery image, and than tried installing the 2.2 Froyo update.pkg through the main menu method and clockworkmod through .zip file.
I haven't been able to find a update.pkg file for 1.6 Build 7921 Rogers phone yet...I think that might solve the problem but if someone else see's a mistake in what i've done wrong, please do help. Thanks
Im not sure since ur ota didnt go through but you could try getti rogers to replace it ...just tell em the ota update messed your phone up.. ......or you can flash clockwork recovery ....then flash o2 1.6 then upgrade to o2 2.2 ....then to dj steves

And call rogers and speak to the retention department and tell them you want the 6gb for 30$

Hi all,
first up, after having spent three days going through the forums I've come up empty on a problem I'm currently experiencing. I'm not a complete n00b on this stuff but currently I'm stuck so hopefully someone can help me.
Backstory:
Bell Atrix, with root but a locked bootloader received and successfully installed the OTA 2.3.4 update last week.
I'm in Australia so am running on the Telstra Network. (not in Canada on the Bell).
After the upgrade, I had the problem with 3G+ Data, so started to investigate.
Tried to follow the instructions given here:
(fastboot) 2.3.4 OrangeFR (Jul5: 4.5.2A-11) w/ RAM fix for Intl. unlocked
So, I tried unlocking the bootloader to flash the files mentioned (system.img). Ultimately I've now concluded that I mustn't have unlocked the bootloader successfully.
After system.img had moto-fastbooted across, when booting I currently get the 'famous':
Failed to boot 4
Starting RSD
So, off I went to RSDLite, with the latest install, the latest moto drivers, and armed with the IHOP_Bell.sbf, I thought I'd try RSD'ing that to my phone.
It gave me SUCCESS, but still no fastboot access.
So I tried intl-fix-try1.sbf [inside the IHOP_Bell.rar] with the same results.
Still Failed to Boot 4.
Now, from all the reading it sounds like I need to flash an entire sbf to my phone.
That's OK, but I can't find one that I feel safe dropping on there.
All of the talk is that flashing a Froyo SBF to a phone that has been OTA updated to 2.3.4 is Baaaaaaad (ie hard brick), and the only 2.3.4 available appears to be the ATT one.
Am I missing something incredibly obvious here?
I've been through the pudding thread, and the SBF thread at length but remain none the wiser. Until I can either unlock my bootloader, and have fastboot access, there's not much I can do.
Seems the way to do this is with a full ROM.
Any of you good people out there able to help a fella?
cheers
Sorry, I should also add that I can't seem to get to fastboot either.
When I plug in the phone to USB, green light comes on.
Then, I press power button again, green light is brighhter and it starts the moto screen.
After about 8 sec the Failed to boot 4 message comes up.
So I tried fastboot, power on with vol down button held.
Exactly the same outcome, no fastboot access it seems.
can you get into RSD lite mode by starting up the phone with the volume UP button and power held?

Thanks for the reply mate.
Whether I hold vol-up during the boot doesn't seem to make a difference - it still boots to:
Failed to Boot 4
Starting RSD Mode
From there though RSDLite (windows 7/latest version/latest moto drivers) does recognise the phone via USB.
I am able to flash that pudding IHOP sbf to the phone (but after doing so it seems to have no effect. I can't get to the next step due to a lack of fastboot access).
So I'm comfortable that I can make an RSD connection from PC to phone, but from there can't seem to make much progress.
Thanks
Just wondering if anyone's got any clues on how to fix this one? I've been quoted $180 to fix but if anyone's happy to do it for less I'll pay... I'm in Australia...
So I upgraded my Dell Streak to StreakDroid some time ago and had been updating along the way as new versions came out. At around 1.9.0 my streak started crashing every which way. So I reverted back to the old version - no luck. Then I reflashed 1.9 still no go. My streak now crashes basically whenever I try do anything useful with it. Whenever I open Maps, Market, browse a page with any pictures, watch a video, or even think about using flash my streak freezes up and then capacitive buttons flash a few times and the Streak reboots. Often times it hangs at it the Dell Logo and reboots a few times before being able to get back into android. Sometimes it never even makes it back to android and I have to pull the battery.
I recently tried Farad's Ginger Streak, it was stable for a while but now has the exact same problem! (Yes I did the amss, dsp, gps flash)
I have run all of the Engineering tests in the Fastboot mode ( I was convinced it was the internal SD card for a while) but they all turn out fine.
Something interesting: Whenever I boot into fastboot mode it says TE Failed and something else in red then it looks like it tries again and finally gets to the "Wait for SD Detect" until finally booting to fastboot mode.
I am at end of my nerves at this point! I can only use my phone as a phone! Everything else crashes it! Please Help.
Thank You.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A

Did you try the 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROM?
If nothing works then the internal SD card (2GB one) maybe faulty.
He mentioned testing the internal SD and that it reported no problems.
To the OP, has this occurred on stock ROMs as well?
I am currently running farad's 2.3.3 ginger rom.
As for the stock ROM I don't remember having the problem back in the day of stock 1.6 from dell but that was a looong time ago...
I was trying to go back to complete stock..but any instructions I find seem to be a bit shaky I tried just flashing the stock rom through streakmod recovery but it never booted(didn't really expect it to since I had to flash a new amss and dsp to get 2.3.3). I was thinking about going QDL but that doesn't flash the 1.6 if I remember correctly. I kind've want to send it in for warranty but I need to get it back to stock for that.
Thanks for taking intrest and helping.
Install the current version of your carrier's ROM on the Streak and try that rather than going all the way back to 1.6. This will allow for the following:
1. The recovery image, the baseband, and the software are all the same version.
2. Eliminates hardware as the source of your difficulties.
If the Streak functions properly under the carrier firmware you install, then you can safely eliminate hardware as the source of your problem, which means the software is the culprit. In that case, install Fards' ROM again and test it. It is possible that your Streak had a bad flash when putting GingerStreak on it.
I believe the directions given on the Dell Streak Flashing Guide on the Wiki might be helpful.
Did he factory reset at any time inbetween all those flashes?
Flashing rom after rom wont fix anything if it's the data that's the issue, custom roms dont wipe data as a general rule (they can, it's simply not scripted to on install as it's usually not required for updating the same rom but to a new version).
I didn't even think to ask that of him. Putting a stock ROM on the device does wipe everything though, so wouldn't he be at the same end point that a factory reset would be at?
A stock update will, but reading his posts i'm unsure he actually managed to get any stock update to complete as he was likely doing it wrong
If I had a penny for every time I factory reset my phone....
I can't tell you how many times I factory reset my phone between rom flashes but it didn't help any. I tried both the factory reset from the "black and white" and from within StreakMod. I have cleared the Dalvik Cache and the batter stats and the entire cache partition. I have run fix permissions out the wazoo. And it never really helped any.
Anyway I just installed the latest stock AT&T Rom (unfortunately they are only at 2.2.2) as suggested by Strephon (thanks for the wiki link by the way that place is amazing! How is it I never ran across it in all my time with the streak...)
The phone seems ok...but so did all the other ROMs when I first installed them. Any ideas on how to "stress test" the device short of installing stuff from market and trying to do everything?
Thanks for all this help by the way you guys are being awesome.
Well nevermind...that didn't take long at all. It is giving me the same problems as before. It is freezing, flashing LEDs and rebooting a few times. It made it into android for a sec while it said "checking SD card for integrity" in the status bar then rebooted again and finally booted into android.
If you're having this problem even with a stock ROM, I believe you have a hardware related problem, and that it was simply coincidence that it happened shortly after upgrading to custom ROMs.

If its not under warranty, I would look on these forums for a disassembly guide and replace the internal sd card. I replaced mine with a 4 gig just for the heck of it.
Alright I guess I will I call Dell tomorrow and see if I can't get it fixed/replaced.
According to the warranty site I should still be under warranty.
I'll post back once I contact dell. Thanks for helping out so much!
Success
Called Dell and they next-dayed me a new streak. Runs just fine. I guess it was a hardware problem after all.
Now Last time I upgraded my streak from stock I had to go through a whole bunch of hoops (QDL, then some intermediate stock roms then streakmod and finally DJ_Steve)
Is this still the recommended path to 2.3.3 or has a better way come around since?
I am new to the android platform, so please don't "grill me on the spot"
And just so you know....I read and read and read about it, but I just can't figure this one out...
I am a Symbian modder and cook, so I actually know how to do stuff like this...
but now I am stuck
Heres the problem:
My friend had problems with his Streak 5, which I believe was released with Android 2.1
His System crashed and he went to an other friend that put on Android 1.6...
He told me it worked for about 3 days and then crashed again. So know he gave it to me to fix it.
SO this s what I did:
I figured that he probably downgraded it, while putting on 1.6 and so I thought that might be the reason for the crash.
So I tried a Froyo Version 345
Still doesn't work, so I tried the latest release Version 360 & 364...
which would mean, that there is no way I downgraded on the last boots...
but 360 wouldn't be recognized by the in recovery mode - option 2
so last one I did was 364...
Anyway...the problem is that it won't boot...it always stays on the Dell logo
after I put in the 364 and pushed recovery mode it, didn't say Error, so I figure it did something....
after that the dell logo disappears shortly then comes back again...(reboot?) but won't go farther than that
Now when I turn on the dell streak all that happens, is that the three buttons on the bottom light up, but no Dell logo...
I just can't figure this one out...can anybody help me out?
how did you flash were you using streak recovery or the dell recovery option or even clockwork mod may give people more of an idea
I tried to use streakflash, and all the other windows based flashing systems, but I couldn't get the driver to load...
I was using the dell recovery option
I was not able to install clockwork, because the phone was already not working before hand.
I tried a factory reset and different updates as "update.pkg" with the "recovery.img" as stated in the xda-wiki site.
Do you think the "old" files that have been on the sdcard can make problems?
should I use a clean sdcard? and if so, which files must all be on it, to get the dell alive again?
