JI6 GPS Files? Update.zip - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So as I am sure everyone else knows, the JI6 sucks. The lockscreen needs to be pushed all the way out of view just to unlock the screen and a few other things such as adding theme update.zips. The only good thing is the GPS files, those do work, at least better.
Is there an update.zip file out there for these, or somewhere where I can get these to try to make one. Help will be appreciated, thanks.

I'd recommend just using bionix 1.7 with the stock kernel

I might be the only one here that doesnt like Bionix. I honestly like the stock ROM better. To the OP: JI6 GPS files dont seem to work any better than JI2 so it may just be better to use the JI2 update.zip floating around.

I agree, Oddly enough I was getting great GPS locks with stock JFD now I can't lock anything with JI6. Anyone know if it's safe to downgrade back to JFD through ODIN?

Yes I agree. Bionix is pretty sweet, but it had a few bugs and was a bit laggy. I prefer the stock rom myself. I guess I will give JI2 a shot, though I still think JI6 gps runs great.

Id rather have the ji6 modem and the ji2 gps.

If someone can get the correct files for the JI6 modem. I will try too compile a update.zip with the JI2 GPS files and JI6 modem files.

JI6 modem bin
Thanks to XIPHER_ZERO fro this.

I personally have not tried to flash this. And whenever I do flash a modem I still use the 512 PIT as well. If you need that file let me know. This file is zipped so unzip it before anyone flashes it. Flash at your own risk, BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Great, thanks! I won't be able too do much with it tonight. Got a huge accounting exam to study for by tomorrow. I will crack it open after that. The JI2 gps files actually work pretty good , so hopefully I can get this all in afl flashable zip. Then try creating custom roms

You are not the only one. Since 1.4 which worked great, too many requests found it's way into the newer builds. It also seems that the stock builds act differently from phone to phone. JI5 and JI6 worked best for me. 9 sats out of 11 within a few seconds. Nothing beats that

I don't really like Bionix either. There's too much going on with that ROM. I was on JFD Deodexed for a while, and now I'm on JI6 waiting for a Deodexed version of it. There's just something about how simple the stock builds are.

After using JI2 GPS files all day long, I would have to say that JI6 was better. JI2 does work, but after a few minutes. JI6 was much faster.
What app are you using to see how many sats and how fast?

GPS Test from the Market

Thanks! Will grab that a try with the stock gps files, then JI2. Just to see how bad stock really is.

So does anyone have the JI6 gps files, or know where I can locate them inside the update? Thanks

Anyone help me identify my rom?

I got my vibrant running 2.2 in early December unfortunately I don't know what rom I am running. I have been wanting to install black froyo theme but it says not compatible with Jk6 I really am hesitant about flashing a rom so on figure I start with a theme and get comfortable but i really don't know what rom is on this phone. I know it was flashed before I got the phone and if i do get any rom I need wifi calling and all i know is this runs it decently stable so I am happy with it since I need it.
This is what it says under about
Firmware 2.2
Baseband T959UVJK6
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build number FROYO. UVJK6
So I really don't know of I am compatible with black froyo that is the one for non Nero listed under themes
On the sd it seems there are multiple zip files with rom names so this makes it even more difficult here is what's on the sd
ObsidianV5.Zip
Fusion12_stock.Zip
StockJK6_v2.zip
That seems to be it. Yes i am rooted and I did titanium back up last night I feel like I am getting a little more audacious to finally do this and maybe sometime soon flash a new rom I just do. That's want to lose my wifi calling and is there way to get the phone exactly the way it is now if I screwed up? I been reading up 2 noob guides and it doesn't seem hard at all but i figure I start small. Thanks for any help in advance

Just upgrade your modem. I know you are hesitant but it's relatively easy and there are better modems out from the JK6.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9737728
pick one and go to town. I can personally verify it working on JL1,4,and 5.
why not just DL Nero v3? Then you know its compatible..
Nero3 does not have wifi calling. I absolutely need that on my rom.
Blizzard you can confirm that blackfroyo is working on your JI5 or you mean wifi calling on JI5? sorry my eyes are crossing here.
I am still trying to get a handle on what has what effect. Id flash Nero3 in a heartbeat if I knew wifi calling worked on it. Same with Axura but it doesnt look like its offered on either one

Wifi Calling. Am I stuck on the same Rom forever?

Long Story short I would have to walk down the block to use my phone at work. Wifi calling is a necessity. When I got my phone it was already flashed to a ROM that to this day I have no clue what it is. I know it is some version of JK6. Anyways Wifi calling is decently stable though I am having some minor issues with wifi connection and my battery is awful. If I flash a new modem would this interfere with the wifi calling's stability?
And having that in mind is there a list of what ROMS include wifi calling? (or can it be installed on any ROM, because I would really like to try Axura or Nero) but I can not go without it on my phone.
Thanks!

I'm sure it can work with axura, I've tried it, not sure about nero, but it should work.
The devs removed wifi calling from roms because its a HUGE battery hog, but I'm sure you can find a .apk on xda, or 4 shared.
I'm running Nero V3 and Wificalling works fine. It even seems to work better then my old JK2 based ROM. I'm using the .apk linked from the slightly better gingerbread theme found here in the vibrant themes section.
Flash a new rom and if the rom does not have the .apk just d/load it... no issues at all with the new roms.
Thanks guys I wasnt sure if the program was ROM Specific or required certain files/settings blah blah blah. But if it should work with any newer Rom I guess I should just get over this fear of flashing and pull the trigger. monkey1911 Ill give that a search right now so at least I can put it in my arsenal. Ill let y'all know my results. Thanks for the help!
I finally took the leap tonight and flashed nero 4.1 (maybe ill do 5 eventually but I like this for my first flash.)
I installed wifi calling and it works great. Had a struggle restoring my contacts because what's on google contacts is not correct and it wants to override what I restored using titanium which is correct so I had to shut it off and re restore the contacts after.
Only issue I am having is my camera advises me the firmware is not current and says continue yes or no. Any fix for this? Thanks for the help guys I am finally glad I got the audacity to flash

[Q] Vibrant on AT&T Qs

Hello everyone! I am brand new to the world of custom roms. Please laugh, but be helpful!
I am an AT&T customer, I received my Vibrant on Friday and have been learning plenty thanks to this site since then. I still have a lot to learn though, and if anyone could answer a few questions I would be very grateful.
I installed my first custom rom today. Bionix 1.3.1. So far it's great. It doesn't have all the Tmo bloatware that came on the stock eclair. I installed this rom because everyone said the GPS was great, it is very stable, good performance and good battery life.
So far, I have not been able to get the GPS working. Is this because I have an ATT Sim in the Vibrant? I am a total noob with this stuff, please don't laugh! I am not sure if the satellites are branded to certain companies or what (fill me in!). I have read that there are apps you can download that can help your GPS, but I am wary until I figure out if the Vibrant is incompatible with ATT satellites.
Can someone please explain in laymens terms what a Kernel is? Bionix came with Voodoo installed. To my understanding, Voodoo helps with audio and video display. But when I try to open the Voodoo app, it says that it is incompatible with my Kernel. How do I get a kernel that will work well with Bionix? (Again, sorry for the noobtalk.)
I'm sure I will have more questions in the coming weeks. Thanks in advance to being such a helpful community (you guys really are from what I have seen here!)
Anyone have some advice
I'd be happy to assist you. All you need to do on your phone is do some GPS fixes. I forgot which ones got my GPS working for my phone but Bionix GPS did not work out of the box. I remember I had to either download a GPSfix or do this
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/07/samsung-vibrant-suffering-gps-issues-quick-fix-available/
I remember the GPS was working great on the Bionix until I switched to different ROMs. You can load any ROM you want but be cautious of what you want out of your phone. Something that looks really nice and productive may give you horrible battery life and GPS.
That's a pretty old article. My phone was made in June 2011. Bionix is supposed to having a working GPS outright. Are you sure this isn't the case?
I remember using it and it worked. But I forgot what I did to the GPS because it was so long ago since I've used Bionix. You can look around for GPS fixes.
Hmm ok. Any advice as far as the Kernel/Voodoo is concerned?
Bali, Bullet, and Overstock are good for battery life and smoothness.
People say Bali is the best but I find that my phone overheats a lot and at times becomes unresponsive. Again, each vibrant is different in how it handles kernels. You have to try some of these yourself to see which one is best for your vibrant.
Has anyone been able to get GPS to work using a Vibrant on ATT's network?

I have a Vibrant on AT&T and other than the GPS sucking I can use it. Any way try this code.
*#*#3214789650#*#*
I tried that and it worked. Will test and get back
How do you find out what modem you are using? I can find the Kernel in About phone but the modem is not there.

Happy to help
I don't know about Bionix, I'm using Project V, Bali 1.8.8 kernel, KB5 modem with no issues.
I decided to try Bali 1.8.8 Kernel with KB5 modem.
I am trying to flash these using Odin. I think the KB5 goes in the Phone slot, and Bali goes in the PDA slot? When I click PDA and try to select the Bali ZIP it doesn't show up, it looks like the only file extensions available are .tar .md5 and .smd
What is a .pit, why do I need it? Where can I find one?
I'm trying to use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7152078&postcount=2 but I'm not having much success.
I like to use the thanks button
Managed to flash them using SGS flasher. Still not sure what some of this stuff means. It's fun toying though
In the future, just use Clockworks in ROM Manager to flash your kernels. I find it easier to just install from zip (zip name of your kernel). You will still have the same ROM just a different kernel.
That's exactly what I ended up doing. Battery life is terrible. But I guess I should expect it.
I have a question about voodoo. From their site it says you can get a better image, (less blue screen, not as sharp of a resolution so no halo around text, etc). Do I need to use a specific kernel for this? I thought it was an app but couldnt find it in the app store.

what is the best of the best

i was wondering what everybody was running? Im still on evil fascinate, ed04 (which sucks), with a standard volt kernel running overclocked at 1.24 or it gets all glitchy and force closes. Im wondering what rom, kernel, radio combo works the best these days. Ive been reading all sorts of stuff and am just not oo sure what to go with. I use my phone alot for web surfing, a few games, music, etc. I also wondered if my aftermarket extended battery will work. any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all the devs that make this possibel cause without them this phone really sucks ass.
I have been searching for a great daily and after trying the cm7.1 Rom I thought it was great, the only deal breaker for me was the sound issues with speakerphone. So i tried powerwashed and think is great, very stable and reliable.
Hope that helps, try it see what you think.

honestly im not sure how you could consider the speakerphone echo a deal breaker on cm7.1... thats a very minimal issue at best imo, but to each is own. I do agree pwbg is a great rom aswell.
After constantly bouncing around ROMs, this is honestly the best setup I have had thus far: PWGB ROM with the Adrenaline Shot, fixpermissions.zip, EC09 radio, and the GeeWiz 2.1 kernel (very basic kernel, flashed to remove hotspot monitoring). I have tried the custom kernels but they remove a lot of stability for me. Also check out the sweet honeycomb theme for it!
do i just odin the eho9 radio? i have ed04 and i have trouble with having 3g or any signal for that matter. would eh09 be better? will it work with cm7, miui, or powerwsahed?
Yes Odin the ec09 modem...much better than ed04 IMO. Getting 1.3mb down on speakeasy.
I'm still running EC01, even with PWGB. Never had a data/call problem, ever.
I use my speakerphone a lot, so for me it is a deal breaker, it's a great Rom nonetheless
For powerwashed i restored back to original since i had to use the pit file to repatriation, think is great so far.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
And here is why you have to try all the roms yourself. i was on powerwashed GB rom and i hated it. Very glitchy and the touchscreen would freeze. Tried everything to try and cure it, adrenaline shot, turning off the 100mhz setting. To make matters worse something in that rom borked my connection to a PC, I couldnt get it to recognize my phone. I tried for 3 days finally got a connection and i dumped that pile. CM7.1 and been pretty good so far tho all roms have glitches you just have to try out what works best for you.
BTW best data connection I ever got was on the EB01 radio, I was getting 1.5 meg down. EC09 was horrible I got around 200k down. I'm on ED05 now will see how it does.
Im set up on powerwashed now and my screen freezes and im constantly takeing screenshots. I think im gonna give espresso a try. Thanks to everyone whos giveing their two cents on this. Greatly appreciated but I guess its trial and error. I do like to see everbodys feedback tho.

Well what I have seen here lately is that their are multiple ways to root. But on top of that all the roms have different glitches. So I'm still stuck with debating and fixing my phone constantly. I'm running an old miui and can't really see a way to try the new 1.10.14.

once the glitch kernel implements Jt's GPS fix, cm7.1 and glitch will be the best and fastest! It's the most overclock and also You can under-volt more than another kernel.

Glitch already is imo... I just use gps booster from market until the fix is implemented. Getting the same gps results as jt's kernal this way.

Is it worth going to a gingerbread rom?

So I am on Superclean 2.9.2 with a voodoo kernel, and radio is EB01
I have not upgraded in at least 6 months+
So far my phone has been pretty stable, only big thing I would love is to find a rom that has much better battery life, but I doubt i will find that, just the way smartphones are.
What are the real advantages of going to some of these new GB roms? I see cm has some issues with Flashcard, and not sure if it will even work with mine since still using stock that came with phone, and data dropping out.
Thanks
GB tends to be faster. Miui is the only one that I've used that data never drops out. I'd say battery life is similar for me between TW (2.2) and GB.
I'm on miui and glitch and I average at least 14 hours which I'm happy with, I very seldom half to plug it in other than during the night.

fwiw i run dh12 with the stock kernel and am very happy

I read in one post EC09 can corrupt SDcard? so best to stay way from that one? and stick to EH09 and EI20?

dh12 was a joke (it was our launch rom last september)
you cannot use eh09 or ei20 modem on the vzw fascinate...ec09 is *usually* the best modem to use on gb (aosp or tw) but some people have better results with eb01 or ec01

OK but now I am even more confused...i see here for example
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274561
Says Ei20?
Is this rom not for fascinate?
Ok I went with MUI and followed the detailed directions so I am on EC09 modem. I think I messed up the terminology when I asked that last question.
About to install the glitch kernel now..i feel like I have a new phone now...totally different..LOL
My battery actually improved with gb
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I think the PowerWashed GB (it is from the mesmerize, and is NOT an SDcard risk) is a great rom. Better battery life, 0 force closes, and the radio is amazingly consistent(data or calls are VERY rarely dropped. The speed of my fascinate also improved.
My only caveat with this rom is 3 fold... There is a charge bug, where it tells you your battery is 100% when it's 95% or 87%. Second, there is no verizon network recognition (the market doesn't have verizon apps, essentially. Everything else network based works perfectly though). Lastly... After being created and made nearly perfect... Development has stalled out on it. The battery charge issue is one of the only things I'd like to see developed, but I'm not sure that will happen.
In short... Try gingerbread, i don't think you'll regret it.
