I am curious: Do nandroid backup and restore kernel and radio? I tried to search for my answer but found inconclusive results.
i am specifically talking about backups made by ROM Manager.

No it does not.
A nandroid does not restore a kernel.
You should search before making so many threads man, this was very clear when I searched.

clockwork backs up your rom so if you restore that it'll just restore whatever rom you did the back up on
you need to use titanium backup or a similar app to backup and restore apps

You could restore this way, but you very well could have a lot of bugs and issues from this.

Okay, so on my SGS2, I have CWM 4.0.1.4. The no longer seems to be a nandroid backup/restore option, just a generic "backup/restore" option. Is this the same as nandroid?
Secondly, is a CWM/nandroid backup a COMPLETE backup? i.e Is it like an image which will restore everything on the phone back to the state the backup was taken? Specifically, the kernel, radio/modem, etc?
Anyone have an answer?

Hello all,
I am kind of new to rooting. I've owned my S3 for like 4 months but only just now did I decide to root it... I've already installed a custom rom and i couldn't be happier, it's Wanamlite 5.3.
Now I would like to try different roms, such as UltimaRom, as it has a far better Aroma installer with much more customization.
But I've got a question... ¿Do i need to wipe all my data in order to flash the other rom on top of Wanamlite?
Cheers.
You might get lucky and be just fine flashing it on top, but there's a very good chance you'll get a lot of problems. In fact, it probably won't boot at all. So it's always good to do a wipe before switching ROMs. Backup your data and apps in Titanium

Yeah... I'll most likely end up doing that.
Anyway, I was reading the instructions in the UltimaRom post and they mention that you should make a NANDroid Backup using CWM. What is the purpose of this backup? I mean, with Titatanium you can restore your apps, but what kind of data does NANDroid Backup save and restore?
Cheers.

Nandroid backup if i am right is like a boot image of your phone when you do the backup, so if things go wrong it will restore the phone with everything you had at the point of backup

Learned that from my wii flashing days lol
Cool guys, thanks for your help )
I have seen members saying that nandroid backup is like the first thing to do before flashing/rooting etc.
I want to ask, how important is nandroid backup for our device? I read somewhere that its nearly impossible to brick your rezound as long as its S-ON, so is nandroid backup still important?
Thing is, my memory card slot is not working and there isn't a way to backup nandroid. Was thinking of flashing some ROMs.
Nandroid are like restore points, if you mess something up you can always go back. It's a must for frequent rom flashing unless you like losing all your data every time you mess something up and end up running an RUU to get it back to working order. Idk if it's possible to maybe have the nandroid save on your internal storage.
Also look on the play store, I remember seeing someone make an app that will do a nandroid backup to cloud.. While the device is booted.

If I make a backup with TWRP, can I restore it if needed using AmonRa?
Thanks for the replies.

I don't know about TWRP and AmonRa, but I do know that TWRP and CWM didn't like each other the last time I tried, which was a couple months ago for a friend. I had to do a different backup using TWRP because it would not read the previous backup properly, which was made with CWM.
EDIT: I did find that Amon Ra can restore CWM backups.

I really have no idea... I haven't used anything but TWRP for several months.
Why doesn't the latest version of Titanium Backup work with my TWRP backups? Why can't it extract anything from them? Version 6.0.3.1 doesn't have this problem. What's wrong with the latest version?

I have already tried that. I tried several weeks ago and never got a response. It seems I might be stuck with version 6.0.3.1 for good if this doesn't get fixed.
Do you have an answer? I have got this problem with Titanium Backup 6.1.1, too.
Is it possible to install the latest version of Titanium Backup that works with the Nandroid Backup?
Best regards
Dirk

Just for the sake of record for whomever searches about this problem in google:
The solution is to use "Nandroid Backup" - the free version is enough . more info in the official thread.
To restore a specific app - ( if your nandroid is compressed then ) decompress your backup ->restore Data tab->Restore Apps+Data-> follow the onscreen guide.
I had that problem with T.B on my N7, and using N.B helped getting around it.

Thanks! This saved me a lot of work. It's slow as hell but gets the job done which is the most important thing.
