Need suggestions/help. - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a hardware locked phone and was wondering if anyone could answer this question. Is there a way to flash back to stock with Clockwork like I did with Bionix 1.x? The mistake I made was not making a stock back up before flashing Bionix's roms. Also, I wasn't able to get into download mode to flash back with odin. Basically I'm looking for the easiest and safest way to get back, before I screw something up, to stock so I can return my phone for non locked one. I'm new to all this (the terminology is confusing) so if there is a way already posted a point in the right direction or a little how to would be great. Thanks.

Tiger Direct return policy????

Good evening folks. WOuld anyone mind sharing any success or failure returning a gtab to tiger direct? I just ordered it on 4-6. The other question is that I put the new kernel etc and new image on it. Is that something that is a no no?
I would like to consider getting something else but im hoping it can be returned. any advice?
I don't know about their return policy, but if US Merchants keeps their word the OTA Updater will be fixed by tomorrow - you should update the firmware right away, imo. I heard that the TD models are very old firmware.
ive already updated it to TNT etc. it works fine. I am just not using it at all, so id like to send it back. my main question is about the fact that its not the stock rom. will tiger take it back even though i modified it? or will they only accept a stock rom back
thanks
I would run with the assumption that you will have to get your unit back to a stock ROM before you send it back. Do you really want to risk them denying your return because you didn't take the time to flash it back to stock?
yeah, good point.
i havent seen many threads on getting it back to stock. if anyone has a link id love one. ill try to search as well.
so i would need to get the stock rom on, as well as the stock kernel etc too right?
There are a few ways to get it back to stock. You can just flash a stock ROM -- for example, one of these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842000
hey roebeet. i want to thank you for all your contributions. very much appreciated.
so if i use nvflash, will it get rid of CWM, the kernel i installed , etc?
i want to get it back to Out of box mode.
thanks
nvflash (the 1105 one) one will make it completely 2967 stock, even recovery. The only other things you'd want to do is 1) a factory reset (to wipe data) and 2) remove anything you left on /sdcard.

[Q] Stock ROM question

Sorry all for the noob question but I just wanted to be sure before I do anything more to my phone. I did a titanium backup on my phone before I started flashing ROM's but did not do a NAND back up. I have now done a NAND back up on my current ROM(that's working well). But I'm worried that because I didn't make an original NAND I may regret it. Is the best way to go back to a stock ROM, without losing S-OFF and ROOT, by flashing a stock ROM from here on XDA? Just want to make sure I can somehow go back to stock without losing S-OFF and ROOT. I promise this will be me first and last newbie question for me. Thanks all.

if you want to go back to 100% stock, i.e. to return to a sprint store, you can use the RUU and that will flash most partitions on the phone and return it to full stock (probably an extra step to turn s-off to s-on, but maybe not).
if you wish to return the /system and the kernel to stock w/o losing root or s-off, using a nandroid of when you were on stock or yes, loading a stock ROM with a stock kernel would accomplish the same thing.
hope that makes sense. feel free to search around the forum for answers and feel free to ask questions. we're all here to help!
Yeah that makes sense. Unfortunately I don't have a nandroid of my orginial setup before root/s-off, all I have is a nandroid of my current ROM, but didn't know if the stock ROM's on the forums here were basically the same as original stock. I know I'd have to set my phone back up again but that's okay. Just want something to fall back on in case my flash habits(now basically an addiction) somehow does me wrong.
I thought you needed root to backup the nand? correct me if im wrong
you cannot nandroid before you root. you usually nand right after you root, and that would have the stock os and s-off
Yeah wish i had done that after i rooted. Was too excited ha! Anyhow as long as i have something stock to fall back on then i feel better.

Returning the phone to stock without odin?

Hey guys, I know it isn't possible to bring your phone to being entirely stock without odin but the big question is:
Can I flash the stock Rogers rom without ODIN? My phone is no longer detectible by any computer because it won't fully connect properly.
I know I can't get rid of CMW but am I able to flash the stock modem and then use the .zip from this link to go back to the stock Rogers rom? I am having two issues with my phone and the guys at the store said if I can at the very least get the phone to look like it is stock from the settings menu then I'm good to get another one haha.

[Q] Getting back to stock

I was wondering a few things if anyone could help. I have the metro version
of the mega. Id like to know if it is possible to get back to complete stock. I flashed
twrp, which is awesome. Also I bought a sd card reader from Walmart so
I can add and remove files to the sd if I ever brick the phone. I have
tried cm11 wasn't for me. I have rooted the phone etc. I'm trying
to get back to the state of when I first got the phone. Currently I flashed
bnb's clean twrp files and am back to stock. I want to get rid
of twrp and go back to thr original bootloader if theres
a way. From what I know the bootlaoder is locked up.
Im thinking about taking the phone back to the store as the
owner knows exactly what I'm talking about when I start grilling
him with questions about different roms and such. Do you
think at the store they may be able to reflash it? I've
tried via odin, but can only flash the twrp and then from there
I am able to flash the clean backup. I totally want to go back
to original. If you guys have any tips, questions or comments
please and thank you.

Camera seems like it's stuck in macro focus

Hey guys, has anyone had this issue where your camera refuses to focus on anything further away than say about 6 inches? It can focus just fine close up, but beyond that it's garbage. It goes through the 'animation' of focusing, turns red like i can't focus, and doesn't actually adjust the focus at all. It started in about October and has persisted through 3 or 4 ROMs and various camera APKs.
Has anyone replaced their camera before? I doubt verizon would trade me for a new phone seeing as I've rooted it and flashed a lot of ROMs on it. What should I do? What have you done if this has happened to you? This thread outlines exactly the same thing I'm experiencing and seems as they've concluded it's hardware failure.
Thoughts?
Bump in hopes of someone's experience or advice.

I think you're right on the hardware issue. You could always use ODIN to restore the phone back to stock and turn it in for replacement. Verizon can't tell the difference as long as you restore it with the proper factory image. Bad thing is, replacement will probably come locked down with the currently unlockable 4.3 bootloader. At the very least you can restore it with ODIN just to see if it helps the focus issue.

Yeah, i think I might try going back to stock. I wanted to a little while ago just to remember what it was like having a stock system, but I can't find all the files I need. Wasn't there a sticky with Odin and all the right files in one thread? Thought it was stickied, but either I'm blind, or I'm not finding it.
Edit:
Nvm, I'm an idiot

Yeah sometimes I go back to stock for a day or two just to remind myself why crack flashing is so worth it. But sometimes it's just needed to iron out some bugs. I was having radio issues not too long ago, tried different roms and radios and couldn't fix it. Flashed back to stock, worked like a charm. Haven't had an issue since.

Alright, so I remember having some problems when I was first rooting/modifying/Custom recovery-ing...
Couple questions.
1. I use TWRP as my recovery of choice. Can I backup my current ROM as is and store it through there like I normally would when going to a new ROM in case I want to after I go back to stock? Or will going back to stock completely erase all saved ROM images?
If I go back to stock, can I boot into TWRP again like I do now, or is there some process I'll need to follow again to be able to flash my current ROM image? Should I flash the Root66 stock VRALJB 4.1.1 (12/2/12) in the previously linked thread so I can still use custom recovery?
What else should I know? I've become quite good and confident in flashing ROMs, but I'm nervous going back to stock since it seems easier to brick it/lock it down. I remember when I first downloaded and tried installing TWRP, it showed that infamous Yellow Triangle saying the device found unauthorized software and to take it to Verizon, and I remember spending hours trying to flash things to get past that, I don't want to have to deal with that again.

Yes, backup your current ROM, if you use the root66 Odin image it should not erase anything you have stored. But to be safe, I would copy your TWRP backup to either an external SD or to your computer for safe keeping. TWRP should survive, as long as you use root66, the others will overwrite recovery and lock the bootloader.
The only reason you should ever get the "Yellow Triangle", or trip any sort of security is if you attempt to install a custom recovery or ROM while the bootloader remains locked, or, you attempted to install the recovery via ODIN.
The most important thing here is, whatever you do, under any circumstance, DO NOT accept any OTA updates. As long as you don't accept the 4.3 OTA, you should be able to keep your TWRP.
You may want to try this flashable version of the stock VRAMC3 before you resort to ODIN http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261478

Thanks. I tried the last link there, and am back to relatively stock and still have the camera issue.
I'm excited for the 4.3 update to be hacked since I would really, really like multi-window and SNote capabilities on my 4.3 ROM, but who knows when that might happen.
Thanks for you help man!
