My battery gets drained - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Even when my phone is in stand by mode and the screen is off my battery gets killed what can i do?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Two questions
1: What update are you running / rom... stock JFD, stock JI6, Vibrant9, Bionix, Master Rom?
2: What does your phone say is using the batter... sorry if that seems odd but... go to Settings > About Phone > Battery Use. And post the percentages.

Even though your phone is in stand by mode, there are several apps that try to use data services in background. As the previous post suggested look at your phone status to understand what is using most of the battery and might be try killing that task and give it a try.

My phone is going crazy

Ok so my Fascinate is obviously rooted and I have the Frost theme on here and that's all I've done. I had SetCPU on here running the minimal setting recommend. I decided to take SetCPU off and when I did my screen shut off but the bottom buttons would still light up. I pulled the battery a few times and that seemed to fix it... or so I thought.
Every now and then the screen will randomly black out or the media scanner thing will be running in the notification bar, once I pull the battery it seems to fix it. I'm kinda lost on what to do, any ideas guys?

Do you have a backup made? What kernal do you have installed. If its an overclpcked one flash the stock kernal. Then go from there.

Weren't you the one that posted the "How to fix SETCPU death" thread? You posted pretty much the same thing and said you had fixed it??

I was gonna say this too. I thought you mentioned needing to keep it in conservative mode to stop this from happening. Or to boot it up kill the process and try uninstalling it that way. It makes sense that you couldnt uninstall something like that while it is running without some issues.
i have the same problem and have no set cpu installed i had jt's kernal and set cpu but flashed the stalk kernal through odin back on and deleted set cpu any would help be great
Ugh I had my first fascinate do this. After much trial and error I decided that it wasn't any certain mod. It was just the phone its self. If its doing this I would recommended taking it back. Use Odin to flash back to stock. Hide the superuser app. Get a new phone while in ur 30 days and start all ovwr

well i just did wipe data/cache so maybe
Ya I was the one that posted it. It fixed it but then last night it started all over again :-( I went through Rom manger and fixed permissions. Will see what happens

Charge phone to 100% keep plugged into charger reboot in to cwr under advanced wipe battery stats and then reboot then unplug charger drain battery until it turns off this might help. Also if you are not using the stock kernel that could give you bad battery life

battery conditioning isnt gonna extend battery life as most people think.. all it does is give more accurate battery % reading.
battery depends on how much you use your phone, brightness settings, what/ how many widgets and apps you have and how often do you use them.
im running axura 2.1 just checked 17hrs 34mins unplugged with 32% left
my brightness is at 60% about 2hours total calls, checked ESPNscore about 5 times, roughly 100 or so txt messages, checked Yahoomail and FBook more or less 8-10times each. NO WIDGETS RUNNING, not auto synching with GMail.
** i always odin to stock, then after flashing a new ROM in CWM, i always wipe cache partition, dalvik cache, and battery stats before rebooting**
well hope this helps
Thanks

[Q] Lights on Vibrant

Is there anyway to disable the 4 lights on the bottom? I'm assuming this would increase battery performance as the lights are always on when I'm using the phone.

Nope there is not. For better battery life you can recondition your battery.{wipe batterystats.bin} on a full charge. My battery life sucked and what helps a lot is shutting off the data when you are not using it. Your battery life will almost double. Depending on how much data you use.
Where can I find the .bin file?

Dont need to find it.. When your battery is at 100% boot into recovery mode, go to advanced then wipe battery stats. Or you can get battery calibration app in market. Both work good
That's odd that you can't turn off the home row lights as they were off on previous Froyo ROMs. It it a Gingerbread or a Cyanogen thing? They seem to go off every now and then.
Are they on all the time, could be BLN, or LED Notify.

[Q] Help with phone being awake almost 100% of the time

As the title says, my p500 is awake almost 100% of the time. Even with the screen off (please look at the attached image).
The only apps running at startup (used Startup Manager app to check it) are Go weather, Maps, Market, Minimalistic text and Quick System Info Pro. On my home screen (Go Launcher EX) I use Go Weather, minimalistic text and Winamp widget, nothing else.
Is there somewhere I can look at or maybe some app I can install to see what is causing it?
I'm using Mik's CM7 6.5.5 and franco.kernel v16.1 bfs (this one gives me almost 30% more battery life than the newer versions) and running at 729/245mhz Smartass.
Uninstall maps and you'll be back in action
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
I can try that but I've always used Maps and it never happened before. Sure it eats some resources but I dont remember it causing the phone to be awake.
Uninstalled maps and phone is still awake.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Reflash the kernel. And I agree with you.I found the V16.1 better than the later updates

PROBLEM SOLVED
I was planing on sending the phone to repair on monday, but at the time and with the phone here i didn't want to give up so i thought of rooting it and reinstalling the firmware, but nothing worked and the phone didn't recognize that it was connected to a computer. So i kept search other ways to reinstall the firmware and came across a website that talked about a "secret menu" code for the phones and i remembered that this phones must had one and that from there i could do something, i did. From there i did a factory reset and, unlike the ones i did before by going to settings-privacy, when the phone rebooted it told me right way that it was connected to the computer. I also tested the problem with the screen light and so far, so good.
So, if anyone else has this problem(sannielyk reportedly had) what i did was entering the "secret menu" code : 3845#*500# and did the factory reset from there.
Apparently it was a software problem or something that wasn't installed right by the lg service. But so far everything is good, and i hope it keeps that away.
Thanks for the help

I think I've found the villain. I started manual proccess of uninstalling apps and letting the phone sleep for an hour or so to check awake times. After I removed Live Holdem Pro the phone finnaly slept through an entire hour.
Still have to test through a complete battery cicle tho.

after i uninstalled it, my phone is a new phone
So why do you need help?

Yes, I have tried it. It helps when you do not use 3G/HSDPA. As soon as u enable internet and browse the net and after that disable the internet, the Fast Dormancy process starts to drain the battery again and again. Disabling the Fast Dormancy does not always work.
I swhitched to 2G and then it stopped draining the battery, but it is not the solution, as I can't live without 3G/HSDPA... Don't know what to do

[Q] Tricks for longer battery life?

Hi All,
Coming from a iPhone4, I noticed that even overnight when the phone is in standby the % drop in the battery is greater on the SGS3.
I am currently running the Omega V25 ROM and the battery drain when in standby is about 10-13% over 7hrs in standby whilst I am sleeping. I read a few days back on the Omega forum (cannot find it again) one of the users saying how great the battery life was for them...something like 1% drop over a few hours in standby....do you know if there is some trick to get such good performance?
I have used good programs like Juice Defender which brings it back to on par with the iPhone4, but does get a bit annoying sometimes waiting for the network connections to restart. Sometimes it even refuses to restart the network which is VERY annoying. I was wondering if there was something I am missing that can get great battery life (IN STANDBY) without 3 party programs like Juice Defender etc....
Thanks,
Ray
Its really all about multiple things
Make sure you got a good kernel. ..I recommend siyah
Imo juice defender hurts more than helps
Check your background apps running and close often
If your going to sleep turn off Mobile data unless you got stuff going on ...dl's dropbox ext...

Go offline on Gtalk, Turn off Wifi/mobile data while not in use. Other thing I do is Download CPUspy on Google Play to verify the Cpu Usage.
With power saving mode enabled I loose only 1-2% of battery juice over night. (Mobile data disabled, gsm only mode).
i9.0.1.3k galaxy imperator
First thing you do is turn off the WIFI or 3G(Mobile data) if you are not using it.
Siyah Kernel

What siyah did you flash? You must flash the kernel for jb leak which is 1.6 and not 1.5.3 because it is for ICS rom. Did you perform wipe cache / wipe dalvik cache?

Hi!
I gotta advise you that juicedefender/other battery defending apps hurt more than it should actually help. Think of it this way, juicedefender is also an app. App=RAM consumption, High RAM consumption=High battery consumption.
Also, flashing a custom kernel can help out. There are tweaks which you can do with custom kernels.
E.G. *Undervolting [if you are a total noob on this, then you might read thoroughly how to do this]
You can have manual settings to low screen brightness, not go to vibrate mode, led notif off, etc. And more importantly, CLOSE APPS THAT RUN IN BACKGROUND Such as: Facebook
You can never really rely that let's say, Person1 is having awesome battery life with KernelX because it depends mainly on your SETTINGS and STANDARD USAGE
I hope this will help you out

Well, I think it happened cause I put 1.5.2 siyah which located at Omega Kitchen...So I need to find siyah 1.6? then go Recovery > wipe cache > wipe dalvik cache? Is that so??

That's the reason why. Yes you can try that. Try to wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing siyah 1.6. If it does not help then the only option you can make is to full wipe and flash again the rom

Here are some tips:
1. Put wi-fi policy to never. It's in wi-fi settings.
2. Disable unnecessary sync (FB, google, email etc)
3. Install custom kernel, like others said.
4. Install better battery stats and find what's causing your phone awake (wake locks)

Whether Juice defender helps or not depends on your usage scenario and the app configuration (it literally has tons of options)
High ram usage equalling high battery coumption is bollocks. Each and every single operating system out there will try to fill the whole ram because it actually SAVES power and makes the device FASTER.

^^Was gonna post this myself.
Ram uses the same amount of power whether it is full or empty.
Having it filled with apps saves CPU cycles and therefore battery.
