[Q] Program placement - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Vista Hide Battery.exe and want to i know where to file it so that it opens automatically when I turn my phone on. Otherwise I have to do it manually. I have it in the windows/startup folder atm.

putting it in the startup folder will do this for you, though you say you already have it there.

Uninstalled/removed program but it's still there

I uninstalled/removed a program with file explorer, add/remove program in settings and also tried it with active sync. For some reason it is still showing up in my programs and I can still open it! Help!
try a soft reset after removal, that should do the trick

try freeware Remover it should resolve your problem
Where can I find and how do I use the program you are referring to?

in windows\startmenu\programs the shortcuts are located
if you look at the properties of those programs you have uninstalled you can see where the program is located and you can delete it yourself if you like
Thanks, it seemed to do the trick. By the way, I don't really know how to manage my memory. It seems to be getting used up rather quickly. Is there some way I can move certain programs to a storage card or something to free up memory but still have full function of the software? I'm new to this. Thanks
well when you install the programs it ask you if you want them to install at the default location (that is if you install them using activsync)
if you say no you get the option of installing them to your sdcard
if you want to try it with already installed programs you could try
to move them and change the target in the shortcut
just make sure you recall where you moved them from if it dont work
and you like to move them back to get them working again
After deleting the file I was having problems with from windows I now am getting an error message: Cannot execute/Windows/StartMenu/Programs/IRKeybd.exe
I deleted the file, I thought. How do I fix this. Its messing up my imate.
when do you get that error ?
because if you get it after a softreset there may be a shortcut to it in windows\startup
I get the error all the time. It will come up randomly. There are usually about 14 pop up windows notifying me of the error. I looked for a short cut but don't know if I'm looking in the right place.

[Q] Start-up editor

I have been using S740 for mainly GPS and I was wondering, is there any way to edit the applications that open up at start up?
I have Garmin Mobile XT for this phone so when ever I switch on my phone, I want this application to startup immediately.
I have searched google on how to but it couldn't help me. All I know is that I will have to play a bit with the registry in order to do that. I have Resco explorer with me so anyone can help me out?
Thanks
Application to edit startup : http://www.fewbits.com/startmgr/
You can just use any kind of file explorer and add Garmin's shortcut at the "startup" folder ( \Windows\StartUp )....
The best file explorer I can suggest you is "TotalCommander" : http://www.ghisler.com/smartphone.htm
Good luck
Thanks for the reply, sasiskas. I will try this out tomorrow and post how it performs
Great software, Startup Manager works great. I could add my program easily. Thanks again. But I am facing one problem. The SMS/MMS Window pops up after I switch on my phone. How do I remove that? And also I don't use a sim card for this phone so I also get a notification for SIM Failure at start-up. How do I remove that too?
"tmail.exe" is responsible for your sms/mms window...Try to find it using the program I told you...check everywere(when in the program press "menu"-startup/services/user notification)
As for the sim Failure I don't know...probably you will find it if you look in "menu-user notifications" in the program.
If you can't find anything there...then try downloading SKTools and go to "maintenance-windows startup"
Thanks again, sasiskas. But my ActiveSync says now failed to connect. Due to this I'm unable to install SKTools

what did you edit?
If you go to communication manager-connection there is an option that allows your device to work as a flash drive..do that and then move the sktools.cab file to your device and then from the device execute it.

HOLY CRAP annoying motorola phone portal

Whenever I plug my phone in, set it to USB mass storage, it always sets back to Motorola phone portal with a little roll back icon in the menu bar.
I need the USB mass storage to grab some files off my atrix. How do I fix this?
I was having a similar problem until I uninstalled Motorola Media Link.
close everything related to your phone. I had the same problem once and it turned out I had a cmd window open with adb commands that had been previously run on it. I'd close EVERYTHING related to your phone, restart the phone then start again.
Like someone previously mentioned about Media Link, if you right click the icon in the system tray, there is a menu in the pop-up that gives you the option of selecting what the device does by default when you connect it. By default, the option is set to Phone Portal, but you have the option of setting it to that, Mass Storage or None.
I'm not 100% certain that the second option is Mass Storage, but I know that it can be changed so that your phone won't default to Phone Portal. It should just be a matter of exiting Media Link rather than uninstalling it that or merely changing your settings in it.
I think he means the glitch where no matter what you choose on the phone itself, it will always default back to the phone portal option before it mounts the SD card as a usable USB device in Windows Explorer.
I suppose that's possible, but without being more specific, the problem could be resolved by changing the MediaLink settings. Obviously, if the problem is the one you are referring to, my suggestion would be irrelevant. =p
Anyone get PAW server working in place of Moto Phone Portal? Gawd it sucks!
1. You have to use IE or FF, which is cool because I already use FF, but when I click on File Manager it warns, "File Manager access supported on Internet Explorer only." WTF over they can't make up their minds?
2. I finally get File Manger working through IE of course and then it takes me to some DavWWWRoot web folder???
3. So I copy a couple music files - then go to the phone using Astro - find the files in my /mnt/sdcard/ folder - copy the files (won't let me cut or move) - find my "Music" folder deeper on the SD card - copy the files there - go back to the /mnt/sdcard/ folder and delete the now duplicate files.
Holy smokes is this thing awful or am I just making it awful?
Please someone help me get the much better PAW working!

Stopping Auto Run When Connecting to PC

Does anyone know how to stop the Auto-Run prompt to install drivers whenever you connect a Rezound to a PC? I've already attempted to install the drivers several times. The first time, after installing, the app said I needed to subscribe to additional VZW services, which I declined. But, I was still prompted again. Every subsequent time I allowed the install to run, the installer would hang at some point.
Down load HTC SYNC from the net to your pc and install it on your pc. After installation, uninstall HTC SYNC from the pc. The drivers will be left behind and your pc will stop asking.

I have HTC Sync on my computer now, and I use it. Won't removing it prevent me from sync'ing Outlook with my Rezound?
It is that Verizon virtual drive that pops up in addition to the HTC Storage drive (Internal phone "SD" memory) and the SD Card (External SD Card memory.)
Most every custom ROM around here deletes that thing as part of eliminating Verizon's bloatware; I would suggest deleting the files inside the virtual drive and see if that helps prevent any Autorun of the files. There is probably a tool or guide around here for removing that on the stock ROM.
Edit: Nevermind this technique, as OP said it is a disc image and files cannot be deleted as such.
Go in and rename cdrom.iso I believe it is to .bak, the problem will stop.
There are posts about it, I did it so long ago, one of the first things I did when we got root.

Because it's setup like a CD-ROM, you cannot simply delete the files, nor can you rename or edit them. I would've simple renamed or edited the Autorun.inf had it been that simple.
Where might one find that .ISO you referred to? I tried looking at the internal and external "storage" spots, but to no avail. This stuff is so irritating; if I don't dismiss that window every time, my CPU on my PC goes into overdrive, kind of like when you leave a dialog box open without answering it.

The file is located at \system\etc\cdrom.iso from root; you can't access that normally so you will need to be rooted in order to delete it manually. There was a bloatware tool that used a temp root exploit on the original firmware of the phone, but the OTA update broke that temp root method. Since the OTA, you must unlock the bootloader to obtain root access.
Assuming you may not want to root your phone just yet around here, so this may be worth a shot. It is a workaround if you are on Windows 7, culled this from a web search so I can't vouch for it, but with that said:
1. Installed the VZ Media Manager. After installation, ran the program once and cancelled all of the updates etc. that it wants to do.
As soon as you plug in the phone, it tries to start the media manager program with verizon.exe but no longer goes to the web site telling you to install the software.
2. Renamed C:\Program Files\Verizon V CAST Media Manager\verizon.exe to verizon.exx
3. Used a scripting program to create a new .exe file named verizon.exe that does nothing but a meaningless set command. ("set noverizon=") and put the .exe file in the programs folder shown above.
Now when I plug in the phone, nothing happens except the Windows run option box comes up - no prompts for anything Verizon. The verizon.exe program still runs, but it does nothing and you never see it.
You could always rename verizon.exe verizon2.exe if you really want to ever run the program.

Edit, also this:
Just tried this and it seems to be resolving my issues with the popup. However I installed the VMM (Verizon Media Manager) Mode Selector but had not installed vcast yet. Use [Windows Key] + R to invoke the Run dialog. Type in "msconfig" and hit enter. Select the Startup tab. Find the VMM Mode Selector entry and unclick it.

Option 1 sound like the smart way to go. Problem is, for me, the program does not install to begin with, so I have no such folder on my C: drive. I even checked my installed programs in Control Panel to be sure. What a PITA!
On another note, looks like I now have even bigger fish to fry. See here:

What really sucks is that I finally resolved all my multiple e-mail account issues, and everything, only to find I will now have to setup a new phone all over again!

[Q] Broken Screen Chalenge

Hello everyone! I have a LG Optimus G e977 (similar to e975) and I'm having kind of a very annoying problem. The bottom of my touch screen is broken and I'm not being able to "finish" the initial set up of CyanoGenMod 11. I was able to bypass every page by sliding to the left, but I can't do it on the very last page.
USB debugging is not activated because i haven't even got a chance to go into settings. My phone doesn't appear on "ADB" devices list. Is there anyway I can control the phone from my PC? (Windows 7).
Maybe theres a file inside the phone's internal storage indicating that the initial setup has already been donde. Could I replace it with somene else's file who already has gone through this process?
Excuse my English since it's not my mother language, but I do understand perfectly well anything written.
I really thank you for your time and patience.
On PC with an archive manager like 7zip or WinRar, open CM11 zip as archive and browse to /system/app and delete CMaccount.apk . Make sure to not unzip the rom otherwise you will need to sign the zip as well. Then install edited rom.

This almost worked. As soon as I started the phone for the first time with this new ROM, just had to choose a language and hit next, but then the "Configuration app" crashed, the screen stayed black with the battery and signal icons on top and I was unable to do anything from there.
Maybe this app saves some config files/flags inside the phone and someone can send me those in a zip file or something? So I can trick the phone as if it had already been configured.
Thanks!
Sorry. Wasn't aware that was tied to anything important at all as it is non essential to anything necessary in the phone. I never set up the CM account and always uninstall the app and have never had an problems. You might have to remove another app like Setupwizard or something along those sorts. Haven't opened up a straight CM rom zip in a bit so can't remember off the top of my head.

I finally managed to complete the setup wizard. When the Google Account config set up showed up, it was the only moment when the screen rotation worked.
1) Slide screens until the google Account set up
2) Rotate the screen
3) follow the registration wizard normally without rotating back to normal position.
4) when the "finish" button appeared at the end, i was able to click on it
Thank you very much for your attention!!
