My Sprint Photon 4G's screen starting going weird for no apparent reason. It started with random flashing colors and eventually started to just look like an old tv that could not tune in a station (the touch screen still worked as it registered feedback and I was able to hook it up to my tv via hdmi).
Anyways I brought it in the Sprint repair today thinking it might be a loose cable. They stated that they tried to replace the touch screen and it did not help and chalked it up to a bad motherboard. I thought that was a bit odd to be looking at the touch screen, but figured they knew more than I. They ordered a replacement to be sent to my home address.
Anyways, I started to look closer at the phone they gave me back and I realize it is not the phone that I brought in. First off the kickstand on this new phone is perfect where my had scratches. The MEID, HEX and other ID numbers are all different from my Sprint Photon 4G's box. I find it weird that they would give me another non-working phone and not mention the swap. Is this a common practice. Granted they are to send me a replacement phone via the mail, I still find the situation odd. Any feedback would be great.
By the way, I fired up the new defective phone and the screen works great, the touch screen not at all.... Total reverse of my original problem.
I think I'd be more concerned about where my original phone with all my info is.
But no that isn't common practice.

yes it is most of the third party shops don't fix anything. They order you refurb units and swap. the issue being that the refurb units are almost never properly inspected.

Here is your problem! You could have gotten a kid at the local middle school to tell you this!
Asurion isn't the best co to insure with I think. If phone still has issues you gave a few days to report and send back. I think when I got my replacement photon it was worse than the one I sent back...

AT&T warranty replacement phones. Good or bad? I paid full price for my galaxy note. Had it for a month and a half. Still having problems connecting to internet on 4 g it freezes up. Now ATT wants to send me a replacement phone. I told them I do not want a refurbished phone through Assurion. This is not an insurance claim. It's a defective phone. What are the odds of my replacement phone actuay working good or bad? I paid full price for my note though getting a replacement. I am pissed off they will not give me a new phone. Anybody have experience with att replacement phones? They said the phone will not cone from assurion insurance. I'll believe it when I get the box.

I had similar issues with my Skyrocket. Went through 2 in a matter of 2 weeks and it was the update that was being pushed. Refused to take a referb phone because it was not my issue. Not the same as your situation, but still same philosophy. This phone is bad out of the box, and they need to replace it with a new item. This isn't your problem that it's defective, and why take someone else's defective garbage? Just keep talking (calmly) to support and get the local/regional managers involved if necessary. Sometimes, local/regional managers are more accepting and accommodating than corporate phone-jockeys. After the second skyrocket, I was offered any phone (except iPhone) and took the note. Also told NOT to send back skyrocket. So I have 2 great phones that once ICS is done for the skyrocket, it'll be a great unit again.
just my $0.02 worth for what it is.

So should I call back and ask for the head of the warranty dept? Or should I go into a corporate store and let them call and speak to a manager? I really don't want someone else's piece of crap that was already broken and fixed.

Be careful what you ask for. You might just get "old" new one that's been laying around.
On my warrantied Samsung Infuse...it was refurbished..same as new...and it ran MUCH better than my prior Infuse. And it was PERFECT condition and I assume newer parts?
I've been there and could not even tell the difference. My "refurbished" Infuse was perfect and ran better than my original "NEW".
Nothing to sweat over.
I just got mine and it looks brand new but it did say it was seed stock on my invoice

Is it a Note you got? And if so, how is it working. If you don't mind me asking what was wrong with the previous phone?

yes it was a white note..My old one's power button was no longer clicking and the bottom half would stick...the new one is great seems just as good as the old one and I'm running FJ's base ICS..I got a 3420 quadrant score
I just got a note replacement yesterday. My old note was a month and a half old and it was having problems charging. I got a refurbished one and it seems to run a lot better than my old one. It was in perfect condition and had the "don't text while driving" screen protector and everything. Even came with the stylus. Now I have two styluses.

You also have to remember that refurbished doesn't always mean something was wrong with it. It could be that the person returned the phone because they didn't like it and att can't sell as new anymore.
My sister only buys refurbished to save money, and she has had no issues. I had issues with my brand new note and with my atrix last year. It's just a matter of luck. And asurion is not involved with warranty unless the warranty period is over and you have to file an insurance claim.
Edit: like lildoggs said, they also seem to send a stylus. I kept it and they never charged me anything

When people return their phones within the 30 day period and pay the restocking fee...those phones end up being sold as "refurbished" also. So you might get one that is berely used...or "like" new. My brother did that with his sony xperia and it ended up being pretty much brand new condition one. But it says refurbished. Dont quote me on this but most of the time...AT&T sends out great condition refurbished phones. 9 out of 10 people cant tell a refurb from a new phone
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke

Did you have to use your original back cover and battery and sim card erc with your phone.
Or did the replacement phone come with everything? The lady told me I would have to re use everything on my phone except for the front

Assurion is a really good company. Returned is not bad, in fact a lot of times it can be better than new.
Is 4g and WiFi connection an issue with the note? Thats one of the reasons I am more than likely returning my hoxl.
Are the notes probed to connectivity issues or is this just a typical defective issue?
Sorry for so many questions. I been playing with the note recently and love it.

My replacement is not coming from a assurion. It's a warranty replacement. They handle it different. I'm the only 1 with the conectivity issues. It must be a bad batch of phones.

My sd card slot was defective after 2 months and I was told I could only get a refurb replacement. I called a bunch of times, no luck getting a new one. I decided to just send it back to Samsung for them to repair since the phone was perfect other than the sd slot.
yeah mine had the text and driving sticker too and i kept the "spare" spen
I'm so sorry to hear people got defective unit's not good at all
I've had my Note for almost 2 months so far so good no issues as of yet...
I do have ATT Warrinity if I lose it or Drop my device they will replace my device for me I do not know if it will be additional charge...
I know this phone reached its etl a few months ago. I was wondering what Sprints insurance would replace a broken photon with?
Last time I checked a few weeks ago they were still replacing them
I was just wondering the same thing. I cracked the glass over the camera. Now the camera is acting funky every once in a while.

yep
Had mine replaced last week, got a fresh refurb (locked bootloader on 2.3.5 of course)
I had my nexus s replaced with this pos phone. It was this or some old pos Samsung that was still on froyo.

All it was going to take was someone saying they got an LTE phone in exchange for a dozen photons to suddenly have terrible unfortunate accidents.
Just switched from Verizon to T-Mobile, and got an HTC One.This phone is amazing in every way and I fully intend to keep it for a very long time.
Mine does have a few of the issues affecting many models. Notably, there is a slight ledge where the glass meets the metal near my top speaker, which is felt every time I pull down the notification bar. Additionally, I have a small gap (very small, hardly noticeable) on the top and bottom speaker plates. Finally, I have one stuck pixel (read: always on) near the top of the display; I tried the various pixel-fix apps, but they were all unsuccessful at fixing the pixel.
Most of these are very minor complaints, but still, they are there. I bought the phone online from T-Mobile.com, got it brand new in the box a few days ago. What is the best route to have this replaced with another One? Should I call T-Mobile, call HTC, or go to a T-Mobile store? Also, are all replacements refurbished?
P.S. I have not rooted, s-off'd, or flashed any recoveries/ROMs (haven't felt the need so far on this phone!)
Just call Tmo if you got the insurance bindle you will get it in one business day. Great system if you did not then you will get it in 3-7 business days. Not all replacements are refurbished

Just an update for those who may be going through the same process as me: I am currently on my second replacement unit. The first one they sent was a refurbished model, when I was told I'd be getting a new unit. The second, and the one I am on now also has a stuck pixel, and gap issues. I am contemplating getting a third replacement, but am starting to wonder if this is the best course of action. Will I get some kind of red flag on my account for so many calls/replacements? I will follow up with pictures for those interested.

Hey MC.. I have the same exact issues you do except my stuck pixel is in the bottom left right above the back arrow. I have called in for a replacement and if you are within your remorse period you should be getting a brand new sealed retail packaged phone.. I have been sent 2 refurb phones already and am finally getting a brand new one sent out to me.. if they are processing you replacement thru warranty then you will def get a refurb.. gotta make sure the place a order for the phone as an upgrade.. you will be charged for the new phone unless you send the original back within a week.
I am now on my fourth HTC One, and this one appears to be (almost) perfect. The only very small issue with this unit is that the power button is very stiff. I think I can finally enjoy this seriously amazing device.

I just received an insurance replacement Evo LTE. It seems alright physically, but the screen seems so cheap. There are blantant gradient lines when the screen is supposed to be solid black, and terrible viewing angles. I'm not very happy with this

I have a replacement that came with a green hue in the bottom right that takes up 1/7th of my phone. Took it to Sprint and the techs couldn't see it so they claim, probably due to all the lighting they have to make things look better than they actually are. Still working on getting them to fix this issue or I might just have to leave after all these years. I have paid insurance and repair fees for years without ever using it and have paid for this phone multiple times. There is no way they should be unwilling to give me a NEW or at least acceptable condition phone. Being that this is a lingering issue they seem to not want to resolve, they might be losing a lifelong customer. I refuse to be treated in such manner.

I also got a insurance replacement with a subpar screen, notice the horizontal lines a lot more than I did on my old phone. Oh well..

Ha, I had my phone replaced last year for electrical issues with the motherboard. Well, when I dropped it, and broke the screen (the replacement), I took it in to pay my deductible and get another replacement...
They told me the phone was flagged as stolen! Wtf?! So, you replaced my first phone with a stolen phone? Lol
I just loved getting the cops called on me for something Sprint did... I did get a free replacement for my troubles, and a free month after I had already been slapped in metal bracelets and sat in the back of the cop car...
And you thought you had issues with replacements, lol...

I have gone through 3 replacements so far. I broke my original with water damage. First replacement only got 1x data. I had to force the tech to admit that i was right by doing a speed test with him back to back. and then going in to the hidden diagnostic and showing him it said 1x even though sprint showed 3g on the toolbar. I told him it was sprints way of trying to trick the customer in to thinking they had a better connection than what was available. This pissed him off, but I won. got a replacement sent.
The second replacement had the screen being lifted. You can visibly see the screen coming up, and at times the screen would stop working if i "moved" it in the right direction.
Third replacement could get no data type of data to another. Like 4g to 3g. the data would turn off. the radio was on, but said disconnected. rebooting sometimes fixed it. but it got worst and worst. To the point where I was rebooting 5x just to connect. I complained to no end non stop untill they replaced the phone. I had to show the tech and they said "well.. its rooted" and I said. well.. i flashed it back to stock and look, its happening still.
Fourth replacement, The compass does not work. No matter what I am doing, google maps and compass apps point to the north. Smart Tools also doesnt show me rotating the phone, but G-Sensor does detect the rotation and so does the camera app. But you know what. I ****ign give up.
I am going to take it in to the store just to ***** about it again and hope I get placed on the HTC One or something. But I think they just dont care. The phone is old and they will run it in to the ground until they are out of stock.
