It seems like a lot of the time, my phone will go to sleep and never come back. Last night I charged it, and it woke up with 10% battery remaining after going into one of these states. This has been very frequent and I just got it. I have to pull the battery for a second to get the phone to reboot. The guy at the Bell store told me to update the firmware but Kies will provide no updates (says it's already the latest version). A friend tells me my firmware version is very old :\
Anyone have a solution to this problem? Is this a known issue with the firmware? Could it be an app freezing the phone?
I've been thinking of doing the registry hack to get a later version of the firmware but I'm not 100% convinced I should.

I'm having a problem with my Samsung Galaxy 551 (a.k.a. callisto i5510L). Sometimes when I RECEIVE (and so far only when receiving) a call, if the other person hungs up and the screen is still locked (from the proximity sensor since the phone is next to my head when I'm talking) it never ever unlocks again. In fact it doesn't even react to any button and I can't even turn off the phone. Only thing that works is removing and reinserting the battery and then turning on the phone again. It's a very tedious process and it happens pretty often, every couple of days or so. I took the phone to service and they replaced it with a new one but it does exactly the same so I figure is a general issue among this model.
I haven't been succesful in finding this issue on the internet so I'm assuming it has something to do with the operator's modifications of the system.
So the question is: Has anyone else had this problem? If so, has anyone found a workaround, a patch or received a proper answer from the service about how or when it wil be fixed?
Today I got from the service that it was a software problem to be corrected via update, but they didn't know what was exactly the problem or when the update will happen so I don't believe them much...
A little technical info about the phone:
As said it has stock ROM from the operator CLARO Argentina and the firmware versions, according to KIES are:
PDA:JK3 / PHONE:JK3 / CSC:JK2 (CTI)
And according to the phone about menu:
Model: GT-I5510L
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband: I5510LVCJK3
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
Compilation: FROYO.VCJK3
Try install lastest rom from samfirmware.com

Thanks for answering so soon and for the advice. I searched through their website but unfortunately they have only firmwares for the GT-I5510 and my device is GT-I5510L dunno, what's exactly the difference but even in samsung's open source website both devices have separate sections so I'm guessing there's a difference in hardware too.
I sent my phone for repair today, but perhaps I just have to wait for an official samsung update.
And I haven't found more people with this problem as often as it happens to me so perhaps I'm just really really REALLY unlucky and just got two faulty phones in a row. Maybe third time's the charm...
Now there is only 1 file diffrent, connected with the language.
hello,
Galaxy 551 is my wife's phone and she has the exact same problem.
After a call, screen turns off and the phone totally locks. Nothing can be done except taking out battery and turning the phone on again. I've noticed it happends on both outgoing and incoming calls.
Did you find other solution than flashing other rom? It's not my phone and don't want to mess with it.

No, sorry. The only solution I found was taking it to service several times until they agreed to change it for a different model. Because all GT-I5510 that they kept giving me had the same problem.
Hi, apologies because someone has probably had this before but i couldnt find it in past threads.
I had KG6 installed via odin, and this morning I tried to install KI4. After installing it from xda, I turned on the phone and it keeps coming up saying "com.android.phone" has stopped (force close). So basically everything closes, this happens repeatedly.
So then I tried to go back to KG6, and I followed the same instructions I used before, but then the phone just gets stuck on the starting up loop (samsung logo etc).
In a last bid I tried to install the frankenstein version of KI4, the same issue happened with force close as the real KI4. After playing with it for ages, if I go to processes > CSC > Clear data, then the issue goes away. But it comes back everytime I turn the phone off/on.
So really I don't what to do now :S. On the guide it says something about changing the bootloader, I tried this but being a complete novice I probably messed it up - however it made no difference!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ross

Hi
When I try to set up exchange email on my Samsung galaxy SII, after entering all the required information the phone simply freezes for some time and then Reboots
After it reboots it formats all the data and gets into factory default mode, where in I have lost all my installed Apps and need to enter everything from scratch.
During reboot I also see that it says no permission on /system/csc/ATT.
This phone is not rooted and I just got this phone couple of weeks back from ATT
Phone Details:
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband: I777UCKH7
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UCKH7
Appreciate any help on this
Thanks
Hi there, i updated my S2 to 4.03 in April with ther official Tmobile UK update via Kies.
I have read on a few sites recently about 4.04 being out and that it makes further improvements. Well yesterday i connected my phone to Kies and was informed there was an update due so i went throught he whole update process and when complete it shows my phone as still being on 4.03.
At the end of the update my phone had all my apps, contacts, pics, everything still on phone. I did not have to reinstall anything. Kies now shows that i have latest firmware but i can see no difference.
Kies reports firmware as PDA:LPD / Phone:LPB / CSC:LPD (TMU)
Anyone had anything similar and bottom line is did i get an update or not.
Thanks for any help.
LPD is quite an "old"-ish ROM, if we can say so (check here for details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487).
The Build Date is 8th May 2012.
I have found LPG to be the most stable version of 4.0.3 (Build date: 24 May 2012).
Looks like we're gonna have to wait a while longer for 4.0.4 (I meant worldwide coverage for it cause as far as I have found out this latest LPO for NEE is quite alright).
Cheers,
Mihai

There was an update for Kies (just the program you run on your computer) lately, are you sure it wasn't just that?
SNAP!!
Hi guys,
I just went throught the same update issue. I had already upgraded to 4.0.3 earlier this year - but I have been experiencing problems with the phone simply turning itself off at random times and needing to have it's battery removed and reinserted to get it going again.
I e-mail Samsung support and got advised to do a firmware upgrade via kies.
So I did - and lowe and behold it found an update and duely installed it - but I am still showing droid version as 4.0.3 and I can see no difference what at all.
I also didn't need to reinstall any apps etc - so exactly what is going on?
Have samsung realised that they made a mistake with the initial release of ICS and applied a patch?
I've got my fingers crossed that what ever it is, it will hopefully stop the phone turning itself off.
Meanwhile I have e-mailed samsung back to ask exactly what was in the update - if I get anything back I'll post it on here.
Samsungs latest firmware is on 4.0.3.
When upgrading with Kies, none of your apps and personal data is tempered with. Just the system is updated and the rest is left untouched.
So, yes, your're upgraded to the latest firmware.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Dear All,
I live in China. I recently bought SGS2 GT-I9100. The shop keeper said it is Korean version. When I brought it home, there were a few problems with it.
1). When connected with Kies, a message is displayed that Firmware upgrade is not supported with this device or something like this.
2). When I upgraded the firmware to 4.0.4 using Odin, there was no lock screen and no shut down menu.
3). Also another problem is unwanted HW information on the home screens, menu screen everywhere. However, when I flashed 4.0.3 or Gingerbread, the unwanted HW information is gone but is always there with 4.0.4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876539
I was able to solve the no lock screen and no shut down menu by fixing the "/efs/imei/keystr". However, no information was found on the other issues. Can anyone help please. Thanks
