Trouble Installing Froyo (rootfs) - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I'm new here and need some help.
I've spent the past couple nights burning the midnight oil, reading through pages of the forum for something that will explain how to fix my problem.
I recently bought the HTC HD2, ditching my unlocked 2G iphone. So far, I'm not thrilled with Windows Mobile 6.5.
I really want to try Android on it. My wife has a myTouch, and I really like the interface. I did some reading around, and felt brave enough to tackle it.
Here's my issue:
I downloaded "HD2Froyo_V2.1", and extracted the contents to the desktop of my PC.
As explained in many places, I placed the Android folder that the zip file created onto the root of my SD card on the HD2. I first run CLRCAD, and then haret.
No matter how many times I run the haret.exe on the phone, I consistently get an error that says it can't locate the "rootfs".
I've tried deleting the Android folder and just placing all the files directly on the root drive, but it still fails to find rootfs.
The only hack I've done so far was to install HardSPL.
Other than that, I've not done anything else.
Any ideas what's preventing Android from installing?

Okay, I figured it out.
Android is up and running just fine.
I am, however, getting the robot voice.
Could someone recommend a solution? I'm assuming I need to try a custom ROM or radio, but I'm not sure which.
Thanks!

It's the radio. I'd recommend the latest one, 2.15. You already HSPL'd it so you're half way there.

Black Dual & Error 270 Image file corrupted

I spent last night reading up on how to upgrade, and this evening trying to do it. So please bear with me if I have missed something obvious <smile>
I have an X7500 on which I have installed the HTC WM6 upgrade. PC is running (the horrid) Vista.
I ran step 1 of the unlocker and then ran RomUpdateUtility. This gave me a Image File corrupt error. So I deleted all the download files and re-downloaded every thing, and then repeated all the steps with the same results.
I have also tried running step 2 of the unlocker which also gave me the image file corrupted message.
A general Google on this Forum leaves me to think that the step 1 unlocker is not working? but it is giving every indication that it is.
Despite every thing i have been throwing at it the X7500 is still working!.
I must be missing something basic but I'm b******d if I can find it.
help / suggestions would be gratefully received.
OK answering my own question.
This morning I downloaded all the files (for the 3rd time) and it has worked like clockwork. The only difference (that i was aware of) is that this time i ran the programs from where I had downloaded them - before i had moved them all to an "athena Upgarde" directory. can't see what differnce that makes but still..
MANY thanks for everyone's work here, at first glance it looks prettty special
You know I've had problems doing rom updates in the past, not necessarily Athena specific when the rru was not in the root of the My Documents folder. When I saved it in a folder a couple of files down it would not run. May have been what you were seeing.

Card Trouble

I am having some trouble with my 4gb card in my XV6800. I have had it since January and been happily adding things to it and deleting them at will. Now I am having a problem with it however. I can add things to it through My Computer etc on windows and it shows up fine. But after a few hours when I go back into it on File Explorer on the phone any changes I have made are not in effect.
This includes both things that I added that are not there, and things that I have deleted that re-appear. Any ideas? It is not helping my wanting to flash new ROMS any as you can imagine.
I know that they are transferring at some point because I m,anaged to install a cab from there last night, this morning, the original cab and folder is gone.
This thread should have been created in the Titan thread, not Titan Upgrading.
Also, you cannot use a 4gb card to flash anything. It's posted all over the place here.
Apologies, I will repost it there.
Ok, that makes sense as to why I wouldn't be able to flash I guess but still not about the cabs and files disappearing. Hopefully someone over there will know.
Thanks for helping me with the first part - I will pop out and get a smaller card (1gb)

tomtom7 installation hangs

HI everyone I am having a major problem with the tomtom7 install it simply hangs right from the start as it displays the progress bar which never moves it just hangs there. I have been working with another user in detail to help he has given me his exact process and files from his working setup but it only gets to the exact same spot
I have tried on two separate sd cards one a lexar 4g card the other a sandisk 16G. I put a raster folder and a voices folder to the root of the storage card and I also place the cab TTN7.450.9028 and then execute the cab from ctotal commander or file explorer. I have tried installing to both the card and the phone with the exact same result I have tried with an RRE ROM and now with EnergyROM3.0 under windows Mobile 6.5 professional I saw a posting elsewhere on XDA about the same thing but it simply said install from a working platform and then it said it was resolved but never mentioned anything about how it was resolved.
I am a noob so I may have missed something basic
currently I don;t think my gps is enabled on my account I wanted to get TT7 installed and then turn it on I have already gone through my 30 day trial but that shouldn't affect the install my radio version is 1.11.25.01 but again I do not know if this would affect the install
Any ideas would be helpful at this point
Check you PM
Just keep waiting for it. TT7 takes forever to install or show some initial progress. I usually plug power in so the phone will stay on, otherwise you just have to keep the screen on for it to install.

Is anyone making an android .NBH file for use with NAND on the titan?

just curious. with the sd card haret method, i got myns warm donut working on mine so far (just cant figure out all of the button mapping).
i have ryans low mem 23518 6.5 installed in the background, but wouldn't it be so nice to NAND android? i think the only thing stopping it is a working NBH file.
Asking the same question.
Care to post a step-by-step for how you got the vogue's donut to work? Would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
basically, from myns warm donut topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619980
-i downloaded the sqsh file folder
-formatted my sd card in my computer with a program called SDformatter 2.0
-i went here http://magister.ipsys.net/?page_id=69&lang=en
i downloaded the file from here and donwloaded the file at the bottom of the page. i ONLY used the default.txt file
-extract myns sqsh folder, and it should give you an android folder with a bunch of stuff on it
-put the android folder on your sd card
-put the default mogul txt file into the android folder and overwrite the existing one in there
-run haret and wait like 5 mins
the android sign while loading is cut across the screen weird, and i cant figure out all of the buttons yet
hey, thanks for the info staticchmbr, but im having a slight problem, when i get into the install screen it asks if you want to install when you press the center button but i cant figure out for the life of me how to get the answer over to no.. its making me feel stupid >.<
EDIT: nevermind, i got it like 20 seconds after i posted this...
yea, just make sure that you download the classic sqsh folder, not the norootfs ones. this has worked with multiple android builds.
im having troubles with the market though,. i can go in and start downloading, but the progress bar doesnt move.
ALSO, on myns, once the screen locks, i cant unlock it. i guess the buttons are mapped differently on that. i have used some kaiser/vogue builds as well
im honestly suprised no one has gone through and mapped the keys for the titan, i dont know if its that simple (i honestly doubt it is) to make it fully compatable with the titan, or im my case, mogul (PPC6800, same exact phone as the titan)
does anyone know if this build will enable wifi or bluetooth for the sprint mogul? Thanks.

[Q] How can I have both WinMo 6.5 + Android?

Hi guys, I'm new on XDA and a new HTC HD2 user.
I got my HTC HD2 two days ago and first of all I must say I have no experience in installing and flashing yet.
I have Windows 6.5 on it. It seems I have my HTC with EnergyROM installed.
In my tools folder I have a Launch Android app. My SD card is empty (just bought it).
I want to have both WinMo 6.5 and Android 2.3.* installed at the same time and choose being able to choose which one to run (the android should be installed on the sd card) . Can someone point me towards the right direction on how to do this?
What are the risks of doing this?
ps1. I'd like to use the Launch Android app provided with EnergyROM to do this if possible.
ps2. I know it might have been asked already, but I feel much safer if the answer is given to me.
Have a look here.
Find an android build you would like to use.
Follow the instructions in the thread.
The Launch Android app on the energy rom is basically just a shortcut to allow you to launch android with one click.
There are two files you need to run in order to boot Android and this app does that for you.
This will make sense after some time reading through the forum I linked you to above.
Dont worry too much as running an SD card build cant damage your phone in any way. You will always have WinMo there as a backup.
Hope that helps.

Click to collapse
That's exactly what I wanted to know! Thank you very much!
Do you have any advice? Which build is smoother and faster from your experience?
Its been a long time since I used an SD version of android.
A lot of it is personal taste.
The good thing about the SD versions is that you can just swap between the by copying different folders from your pc to your sd card. All your settings will still be there intact.
In fact you can keep multiple builds on your card and just rename the folders.
"Android"
"Android1"
etc... The folder titled "Android" is the one that will boot if your using an app to launch it so just rename them as needed.
As for suggestions, I dont like HTC Sense for Android so I always used the CyanogenMod or AOSP Roms. Try a sense ROM and a standard android to see what you prefer.
AmericanDroid is a good one. (No HTC Sense)
@conantroutman,
does running android from sdcard drain the battery faster and does android run slow if ran from sdcard ?... reason am asking because I intend to use android only from sdcard and just retain Win6.5 as primary OS.
EDIT: btw which one do u suggest froyo or gingerbread ?
To answer quickly.
Yes and yes.
However, its worth it to have 2 os's
If you spend some time setting up android you can get good battery life and a good build will only be a little slower than normal.
I'd recommend GB but try both and see what suits you best.
