I've had many WM phones in recent years. The HD2 is good in every respect except it still runs WM6.5. Its time to look at Andriod where (alegedly) everything works as it should.
Problem is I am a tech numpty compared to most on here.
So I'm after some advice:
I need a reliable phone, with sat nav, which can manage my diary, pick up push mail from my work MS Exchange account, and take photos etc. WM 6.5 with CoPilot does all of these things unreliably.
So I want to laod an Android ROM and Google Nav Beta
So far I've downloaded HSPL3 and loaded it successfully onto my phone, I have a Sprite Backup of the WM6.5 instance running today, and I have a standard Voda Leo WM 6.5 ROM.
So booting my device since loading HSPL3 makes no difference, and if I press and hold the vol down button to get to the bootstrapper I get the stripy screen whihc niow shows SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
What I do not undertsand is how I point this to the ROM I want to load - can someone give me some simple acroymn free instructions on this?
I presume the ROM's need to be on my storage card. Can they go in any directory or must they be in the root?
I have not yet downloaded an Android ROM and I would like to gety one which is more corporate themed than scifi if you know what I mean... I've been running CoOkies home tab which makes usability better as its a bit more Iphone like as an indication of what I like. Any Recommendations please??
Android does not require bootloaded (stripes screen) , it boots from windows mobile itself , meanwhile Android cannot be booted from the Nand ( phone internal memory) , you have to copy the " Android " folder to your sd card and run clrcad.exe then haret.exe from within Windows Mobile file explorer. hope that is what you mean, if not reply back
And for the Android build, there is a thread which lists you the most fancy and stable builds so u can choose from hope this helped
Some people can't boot Android from 16 GB cards. Just in case you have one.
OK, Thanks for your replies.
One final question before I bite the bullet - I'm really nervous about "Bricking" my HD2. If I load Android and hate it, how do I reload the original WM6.5 ROM?

By installing/using Android you don't remove/over wright Windows Mobile.
Android runs from your SD card not internal memory
This means concretely you don't need to worry you.
PS, I don't know if it is mention before but you need minimum radio version 2.08 but preferable is using radio 2.12.50 ore even the latest one 2.15.50 !

and to add to what kurt said, to get back from android simply turn your phone off and on (assuming you don't have a dual boot program that will push you into android) and you will be back to windows mobile. tis easy.
Hmm, So I need to keep the 1.5Gb Android folder on my SD card permanently??
I havenot been able to get it to boot anyway.
If I run the haret.exe, I get a botting from Linux progress bar then a blank screen with an inital few lines of very small text which fade after about 15 secs, the screen goes blank and nothing happens. What can I be doing wrong??
Ive tried with haret.exe and all the files from the Android forlder are in the root of the SD card and with teh Android folder in the root. Neither works.
Help!
Hi I had the same problem; after updating my HD2 with the new official ROM I got the new radio (with .50) and now I have Darkstone 3.2 Froyo running on my HD2 My HD2 thinks he is a Desire HD now hehehe; I'm writing you this running Android.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
after updating my HD2 with the new official ROM I got the new radio (with .50) and now I have Darkstone 3.2 Froyo running on my HD2 "
Sorry Murat you may as well have written that in Dutch for all I understood.
Bottom line is I cannot get Android to boot. I see the Linux bootstrapper text then just a blank screen.
Also are all Andoriod roms IRO 1.5Gb???
Any ideas?
Also is there a simple way to make the phone boot natively into Android - i.e. no need for WM at all?
you need to wait at least 20 mins for the first boot, screen might be blank but its creating your data.img file.. .
start fresh and give it time....
and no, you need winmo......
Want to load Android but
I have been doing some research on loading my HTC HD2 with Andriod. The information I have found says my SPL should be:
SPL 1.42.0000
SPL 1.62.0000
SPL 1.66.0000
SPL 2.07.0000
SPL 2.08.0000
SPL 2.10.0000
My SPL is 3.03.0000 XE.
I note the documentation on the software I down loaded was Jun 10, so was kinda wondering if it is out of date. Could someone point me to some later version software?
Thanks

they've made an android program that can run directly from your nand and you wont have the wm 6.5 os anymore

To have android you must have SPL 2.08 HSPL.
For SD Android, you need to boot into winmo.
To have NAND Android, you need MAGLDR 1.11 above (latest is v.1.13)
You have firstly to downgrade your SPL.

Apologies for the new thread.
I bought a HD2 off ebay a few months ago and have a had numerious problems using it as a phone, goes from 4 bars to none every couple of mins cuts off mid call, basically doesnt work inside the house. I called HTC support & they took the serial number then told me it was a "demo" phone and unsupported, I went to the website to see if I could download a ROM update but my serial number was not accepted trying to download any of the roms.
It was running 1.66.405.2 ROM
So, using a serial number off here I downloaded the 3 roms off the HTC website and tried to install them everytime getting the "Invalid Vendor ID" error. I then installed HSPL3 then tried to install one of the 3.14 ROMS using the SD card route, it got to about 2% then rebooted with the error "Software update failed, please try again" and when i go to Bootloader it shows "SPL-3.03.0000"
Anyting I can try to get this back up? even if its just to give to the kids for playing music / videos!
Is it worth going down the goldcard route?
Regards
Paul
its just possible that you may be stuck, with goldcard the only option.
You made two mistakes.
firstly, using hspl to run a 3.14 rom leads to instability and memory problems. You cant do it that way with 3.14.
secondly, flashing the 3.14 rom from sd card was a double bad move, because 1 - its not for your device, and 2 - the fact that hspl is there lets it skip the warning initially and update the spl to 3.03.0000, which wouldn't have happened if hspl wasn't there.
You now need to find the correct stock rom for your device to downgrade spl 3.03.0000. Normally i would say find a 1.42 or 1.66 rom, (for the correct carrier if rom locked, or for HTC if not)
You didnt say which 3.14 rom you used (noob omission, lose a point ) se we cant yet rule an area out. for example, if it was the wwe htc 3.14, then we know the phone is branded (pretty likely if its a demo)
ALternative to trying every 1.66 rom you can find, is goldcard. That will allow the 3.14 rom of your choice (or indeed any stock rom) to flash no problems, hspl not required.
Yeah you learn by your mistakes!
Think I eventually got sick of the thing cutting off it was about as much use as a brick as it was! & HTC support were about as much help as hammer! Told me it was an old model & I should consider upgrading!
I've tried 1.43, 1.48, 1.66 all off the HTC website, went through all the other carriers as well entering my serial number in with no luck. The ROM i used was
RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship this is what was on it before I ran the update.
Os Version - 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.81)
Manila Version - 2.5.19211619.0
ROM V - 1.66.405.2
Rom Date - 1.11.10
Radio Version - 2.07.51.22.2
Is there anyway to find out who the carrier would be from the serial no?
only by trying to download every rom for every carrier for every region, and theyre not all on teh website,,,,
goldcard would be your best bet.
Is there any way to create a goldcard when you can only get access to the bootloader on the HD2?
The steps outilined in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642486
3:Get the SD card's Serial number & Make the Gold Card
--a: Unplug your HD from the PC and Plug it back in select ACTIVESYNC on your LEO
--b: Run PSAS, Calculators/Generators > Generate HTC GoldCard >
--c: Select LEO from the Drop-down box
--dress "Get SD Card Serial from WINCE Device"
--eSAS should see all the drives on your HTC Leo/HD2. Make certain the correct size disk is sellected. For example, I inserted a 512MB SD card so - Beneath the (CID) box you should see something like " Disk Nr.: 04 - Disksize 512 MB"
--f: Now that the correct disk is selected, press "Save Goldcard Image to WINCE SD"
--e: you should see "Done writing SD Card to WINCE Device.
I get the error message "could not open connection, device connected?"
When I turn on the phone all I get is the bootloader menu page!
Resolved
Ok its now sorted,
I bought PSAS and made a goldcard using my old HTC touch. I then installed the 1.66 rom before updating to 3.14
I still have the same phone reception problem, would it be worth trying a different radio to see if that would fix the reception problems?
Thanks for all the help and advice.
Paul
you can't change the radio when running 3.x, because there is no hspl to allow it, sspl can't flash radios and goldcard is for stock roms.
So I'd need to goldcard it back to 1.66 or such then try a few radio roms to see if it will fix the reception problems? Whats the chances a new radio would resolve it?
whats upp guyzz,,
long story short...
my htc hd 2 crashes like every 5min, after an accident (screen was also broken)....
my insurance fixed after 1 month my screen and I just picked up my hd2,
when I run android, from my sd card, (Froyo hd 4.4) every things works normally for like 5minutes, then i get a screen freeze...
Not only with android but also with a custom windows mobile rom,
before the accident, i never had trouble with frozen screens ectt...
I think the accident didnt only broke my entire screen, but also some hardware inside my hd2...??! that's possible right??
anywayz,
before i send my htc hd2 to my insurance back, I want everything to be default...
Otherwise they can come to conclusion, and tell me ''i focked it up'' by installing some other software that isn't from the htc makers..
like the basic rom, the ugly one....
i downloaded it from the htc website ''rom upgrade''
but could there be any complications?? i mean, I installed other HSPL and changed the ''default'' one (which i dont know what HSPL the default one is)
and the radio? i installed radio 2.12
i hope u guyz got some suggestions or some ideas,,,
Ltrr!

If you already have a higher Stock SPL than 1.42 on your device then you can flash a stock rom using the goldcard method (if you have a goldcard that is) to downgrade your SPL as long as its not 2 or above.
If you have SPL2 or above then you are stuck and cant downgrade to anything.

I have SPL 2.08, now i cant downgrade it?
i installed the ''orignale rom'' for my device, it still gets stuck...
Even on the original rom, which confirms that there is something wrong with the hardware.
if i dont downgrade it, and neither Radio 2.15
does it have any effect on the device for getting stuck?
thnx for the link, but I don't know, is it al right wont it be any problem to bring my phone to the insurance (they bring it to a repairer )with SPL 2.08 and Radio 2.15?
you didnt say regular hd2 or tmous hd2.
regular hd2
-------------
run hspl2
choose 1.66.hspl
install wwe 1.66 stock rom as normal over usb
(if you have/know your correct stock rom, O2, orange, whatever, use that instead, but chances are 1.66 wwe will be fine for returns, its the spl/hspl thats important.)
run hspl2 again
choose 1.66.0000
done
tmous hd2
-------------
run hspl3
choose 2.08.0000
flash any tmous stock rom over usb. 2.10.0, 2.13 or 3.14.
done
Well
does SPL 2.08 effect the basic rom? like stuttering or make screen freezes?
if it doesn't then why should I change the SPL to default, I didn't cause the freezing first place.
my screen never froze before the accident, so suddenly after the accident it gets frozen for like every 5min.
Sometimes my htc doesn't even start, it freezes at the ''white htc screen'' and sometimes it shows like ''negative, black/white'' and I had once... it was stuck I pulled out the battery, and put it back in.. then hit the power button, it vibrates 5times short ( like buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz) WTF?
Ok, so I used to actually mess about with my phone a while back and I can't remember what I did and don't know any of the new stuff so am hoping you lot can help out a bit.
What I have:
os version: 5.2.21895
manila: 2.5.20142924.3
rom: LEON v3.0 WWE
Rom date: 22/06/2010
Radio: 2.12.50.02.2
Protocol version 15.40.50.07U
Phone Facts: T8585, virgin mobile (uk).
What I want:
Regular rom, or a decent one to let android run. I won't be using this windows rom.
Android, either on the SD or on the RAM(?). Hopefully on the RAM.
I'm not looking to constantly play around with it again, but this rom is killing the battery for some reason so I want to get rid and want to put on Android. Oh ye I currently have android on the sd but I can't call, it has a weird sound, I put on HSPL 2.08 or whatever but didn't help.
So basically I'd like to ask for help to remove the current leon rom and to put on Android. Any links will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
So what are you trying to do :
''Remove the Leo rom and put ANdroid'' means to flash android, that also means no more Windows.
If you want to change to HSPL you have to be on SPL .2.10 or lower.
So it would be good to know: SPL version, or HSPL (you did not specify), you want to have winmo+android or just android.
Didn't realise I could just put android on by itself till a bit ago, I've decided to just put android on which will remove the windows component anyway
following a tutorial now so ok with it. Thanks for the response.
Hi all
I've had a search through the re-developed ROM's and to be perfectly open, I don't understand much about them.
I recently had a plain HTC HD2 and very happy with it for what I use it for, I don't need any fancy add on's and bits etc, just my Co-pilot and keeping my contacts and notes upto date.
That handset was lost and the insurance didn't have any HD2 replacements in stock. The Desire they sent instead has been sold, and I've purchased a T Mobile version of another HD2.
Is it a simple case of downloading and installing the official HTC ROM for the handset and doing a ROM update?
Apologies if this is a simple query etc!
Cheers, Dennis!
no, no no nonono.
assuming you mean a tmobile us model (1024 rom, green send key) then no, if you flash a non tmous stock rom (any stock rom that isn't for the tmous) onto that phone it will die. brick. dead, because of the ..51.. radio they include.
You may get some cooked roms that are on a base of lower than 2.x, but have been tweaked for the 576ram , and they will work on your phone, but its a very risky game to play.
Far better to follow the two rules..,
only ever flash tmous stock roms,
and
cooked roms that SPECIFICALLY say tmous compatible in the title and post 1 of that roms thread..
Hiya
Samsamuel, thanks for the info there. I'll update with more information! I'm technical, but not with smartphones to the level some of you guys here!
I'm in the UK, and it's a UK TMobile handset that I bought. I've already had the handset 'unlocked' so that I can use my O2 SIM, which is working etc.
From the handset
OS Version - 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
Manila Version - 2.5.20121429.0
ROM version - 1.72.110.4 (86525) WWE
ROM date - 04/02/10
Radio Version - 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol version - 15.32.50.07U
So, would it be ok to update to the normal HTC ROM?
Cheers, Dennis!
Ah ok in that case there is no need to mention that it is a t mobile phone, just confuses the issue.
Yes the regular update will work fine once happy is applied.
Thanks once again SamSamuel,
However, what's meant by 'once happy is applied' ?
Is that one of these hacks or special ROM things?
When I do a search, so many results come back containing the word 'happy' I have no idea where or what to look for!
Is there a thread which explains how to apply 'happy'?
Apologies for the vagueness!!
Cheers, Dennis!
lol, thats the android spell correction and me not proof reading before i post. should be HSPL
Hiya
To me, anything that's typed up 'could' potentially be what I need to do! I wouldn't know the difference!!
So, I've had a search for HSPL - I see it mentioned, but alas, I have no clue what it is, where to get it from, what to do with it when I get it!
Is there any straightforward points on what and where to get this HSPL, how to use it ?
I know I can download the HTC official ROM from their website, so that part I think I know what to do as I upgraded my last HD2.
Cheers, Dennis!
ok, hspl. Get HSPL2_RUN.zip from HERE, (you can follow instructions that say hspl or hspl3, theyre all the same, except for what phones they support, , hspl2 is teh most usefull for regular hd2 owners)
phone into bootloader and connect usb, (when you read 'get an active sync connection', , forget that, it doesnt mean actual active sync, just a usb connection)
get hspl2, run it, in the dropdown is a list of spl and hspl versions. if it ends .0000 its stock, if it ends .hspl its,,,,,, hspl.
choose 2.08.hspl, follow the prompts. if it doesnt work, run the hspl prog again, if it still doesnt work (timeout/connection errors) change usb ports and try again. no need to touch teh phone, just leave it in bootloader all the time.
once bootloader says spl 2.08.hspl you are good to go.
BUT
if you are planning to flash the 3.14 rom, , , you can't do it this way.
3.14 wont work on any spl/hspl except 3.03.0000 and there is no way to get 3.03.0000 except goldcard.
Hiya
Samsamuel - seems you're the only one willing to help me here! so I really appreciate it !
I know i've got to do 'things' from what you've said there, but I have no idea on how to do it! - give me some financial IT related stuff I'm good! ask me to do bootloaders and potential goldcard and run files and connect - I'm lost! I don't want to try things in case I 'brick' the handset!
The ROM I want is listed on the HTC downloads section for the HD2. It's dated 25th January 2010
Details are
ROM Version:
Norway:1.66.409.1, Spain :1.66.412.1, Denmark:1.66.403.1, France :1.66.406.1,
Sweden:1.66.413.2, Italy:1.66.408.1, WWE:1.66.405.2, France Bouygues: 1.66.483.0
So, if I somehow manage to do this HSPL thing, will I not be able to install the HTC ROM? I have no idea where or what the '3.14' ROM is?
Apologies for sounding really vague - I've never got into all the modified ROM's and stuff for smartphones. I've only ever needed to switch on, use the phone, install my GPS software and keep my contacts and notes syncronised. I'm just used to the HD2 I had as it was a case of straightforward use. This T mobile version is 'different'!
Anyone else able to help alongside everything SamSamuel has kindly provided so far? please?!!
Cheers, Dennis!
warning
Its best for you if you do not try to update your phone. Either get used to it or just sell it. There are rom update tutorials on this site. Just search for rom update tutorial, if you must try. The official htc software is not for this phone, if you install it, your phone will no longer work, and you wont be able to fix it.
No, its ok so long as you have a regular hd2 locked to t mobile as discussed in earlier posts.
Just to double confirm, if your phone has green send key, then STOP DANGER
But I think we're dealing with white send key, so normal hd2, and the target Tom isn't 3.14
So,,,
assuming white end key.
Phone backed up and off
Press hold keep holding volume down
Tap and release power keep holding volume down
When striped coloured screen appears
Plug in USB
On PC run hspl2
In dropdown choose 2.08.hspl
When it completes and phone starts to reboot immediately hold volume down again to return to stripey screen (bootloader)
When says USB at the bottom and split at top says 2.08.hspl run the .exe you downloaded from HTC
If you get connection errors, timeouts, leave the phone and just swap USB ports. When running hspl.exe right click it and "run as administrator"
(That's the last time I'm gonna write those out in full, there must be 500 identical step by steps and half as many YouTube vids. )
If your send key is green DO NOT DO THIS
Hi,
I am working on getting my HD2 ready for WP7 + Android dual boot. I read that in order to make sure the Darkstone RAM SD build works properly with WP7 you need an already configured version of it. The current version I have is broken so i'm trying to get back to windows 6.5 so I can configure a new Darkstone build and upgrade everything back to WP7 + Android again.
Anyways, I'm stuck at the downgrading. I've downloaded both originals roms from the forum here and from htc.com and tried to run the from the bootloader (not the magldr but the red/green/blue thingie)
I keep getting the error about incorrect ROM versions. I tried to downgrade my radio to 15.26.50 but doing so resulted in the same error. My current radio version is 2.15.50.14
The HTC ROM i downloaded is named: RUU_Leo_S_Vodafone_NL_3.14.172.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship so my guess is that should work fine with my current Radio version.
Now i did read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14182187&postcount=3 and it sounds like a very possible solution but I can't quite figure out what i should do on the phone. The bootloader doesn't give any instructions, but perhaps he meant magicldr?
I'm quite lost here and I think i would have already bricked my phone twices if the HSPL3 didn't had a good check (From what i've read on the forum)
Did you really follow all the steps from the link you posted?
Especially if you get the "wrong ROM" message, did you use your serial in order to find out which ROM is the correct one for you?
Another question: What SD card do you use? If it´s bigger than 2GB, it tends to make problems. Try a smaller one.
I've managed to follow the steps after all using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681317 (Was searching in magldr at first). At one moment the screen turned black for a quick second with a warning sign and started over again? Now it seems to be finished. Guess stupid me made a post too fast after all.
I was using a 4GB class 2 SD and i figured the HTC rom is based on my serial because i had to insert it before downloading.
Windows mobile 6.5 seems to be running smooth now so I can continue with my evil dual boot!
