Deleting ROM files? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have 2.08 hspl and tried to delete the blockbuster app and all that spam crap but it says that I can not delete ROM files..? Is there a way around this with out building my own ROM?

nope; if it is part of a rom it stays. instead of building your own, you could install someone elses, i guess.

So WM is nothing like Android in the sense that you can delete system files from Android but not able to in WM?

When you say 'delete', do you mean 'uninstall'?

Indeed, I want to go in and make the WM system as lean as possible. Uninstalling or removing everything unnecessary or the programs/services I find unnecessary for myself.

correct (granted i know nothing about android; but your statement of WM is what i have seen as true). once it is cooked into the rom, it stays. the only way to remove it is to install a different rom. i believe you can delete things, though this is likely to cause problems and leading to a hard reboot.

there are many "lean" roms out there; some completely custom and some as close to stock minus bloatware. again, you are allowed only to uninstall things you have installed (not that are installed in the rom.) i would check 'em out.

if youre going to complain about the issue, id suggest to go here to the actual post and post it there

That error message usually means it cannot install because certain files that it wants to install are currently running and cannot be unloaded. Best thing to do is close any conflicting programs first and re-attempt the installation again.
What are you trying to install?
Also as XERO_Racer has said, you should keep all posts relevant to one ROM in the same thread!

BackUp TG01

Hi, I just would like to ask how you guys doing your BackUps of ypur TG01. I can see lots of as is traing different cooked rooms and i cnow how to restore my ow personal data like phone book, sms, email or so but how i can restore installed applications, software and all staff i had on my phone installed before i change the Room but with home screen or UI from the new Room.
I du not believe all of you is installing all applications aver again and again after you change the room with different UI like SPB or HTC Sence.
Thanks
Roman
Good question! I've always had the same curiosity, because as I have a lot of apps installed on my device and I need it for my private and professional life, I had never tested any ROM, not for the PIM dates (easy to recover from Pimbackup or the useful Microsoft MyPhone) but to avoid installing all the apps again!
Recently and to avoid this problem, I've bought a cheap screen scratched TG01 , just for testing roms!
But coming back to your question, I'm interested in the answer as well!

I will say the answer is VERY simple!!!
You just need a bit of help from cooks! It's tricky job but works mostly!
XDA_UC
This is an app that can be cooked within the ROM. Before you flash a new ROM, all you need to do is check if the ROM has XDA_UC or not. If your new ROM has XDA_UC, then simply create a folder in your SD card as "XDA_UC", without the inverted commas. In this folder add ALL your cabs. Once flash finishes, XDA_UC will autoinstall all cabs for you while you sit back, relax and enjoy your tea!
Now, I know you will want to be greedy like I do - 'What about my apps from marketplace?' - no luck there friends! But in market place you can choose to 'install all apps' once you log in - so it's not that time consuming either!
In my future ROMs you will definitely see XDA_UC. Also I am right now working on cooking XDA_UC in DruROM1, DruROM2, DruROM3: So look out for an edit soon

Not bad, thanks for the trick, nevertheless, most of the apps need a register operation, and I'm afraid that this must be always "hand made"....

Guys, I have updated all 4 druROMs with AUTOCAB install now. You can add all your registry tweaks, your PIM back up files and your cabs that you wish to install (both those that need you to press something while installinga and those that dont!) in a single folder on your storage card and once you flashing my rom you can install all of it just by 3 clicks! (yes literally 3 - not counting scrolls)

[Q] dialer/contacts screwed up in ICS?

I remember the dialer before i upgraded to ICS had a tab at the top for contacts, i could click that and find the contact i wanted, hell i could even send a SMS from there by swyping the contact name to the side...
The new dialer for ICS has contacts listed under the menu button, meaning its one more keypress to get there. It just doesnt "flow" as well, if that makes sense.
Im wondering, has anyone else noticed this? how can i get back the old dialer? Are there any good tweaked ICS roms that have this (and other) improvements? Im sorry but search didnt come up with anything and this place is crazy (two android development sections!?!) i couldnt find anything when i searched that met what im looking for.
Im currently running XXLPQ stock
hey there, i am using resurrection remix 1.4 w/ siyahkernel3.1rc6, and the dialler app for ics has contacts at the top of the dialler if thats what your looking for? its got 3 tabs, dialler, recent calls, contacts
That's exactly what inn looking for, any chance you can post the dialer apk for me?
i will do a titanium backup and see if i can get hold of my apk
EDIT: the two files i attached, put it in sd card, titanium backup... i THINK this will work, i would to a nandroid backup just to be sure, then try restoring the apps (search for phone in titanium)
pm me if i dnt reply to this thread
No go on the titanium backup, didn't wanna show up in my list, i cleared my titanium folder so there was nothing else, put the files in, restarted, start TB, no backups found for the dialer.
Try using root explorer and finding your dialer apk and post that? I can manually replace the file
thats the thing its not called dialler lol, its called phone, and seems to be fragmented into two parts =S lol let me see if i can find someting else
EDIT: try un g zipping the file so it shows an APK file and try pushing it to the system maybe? or installing it
EDIT 2: i managed to extract these apk's from the resurrection remix rom:
contacts, contactsprovider, phone, phonesky
hope it helps
Perhaps both Phone.apk (and .odex if applicable) and Contacts.apk (and .odex if applicable)?
my bad let me find .odex
EDIT: cant find .odex but try push the above found in system (on the rom.zip)

You don't have Phone.odex and Contacts.odex? That means YOU'RE on a deodexed ROM... But IF the other guy who is requesting the files is on an odexed ROM, he will have an extra step of removing the applicable .odex files. But he may already know that. (and it's always recommended to back anything up that you may end up needing again if you remove it)

I had that problem with "Resurrection rom 1.1" and believe me you better re-flash the ROM than s***ing with .apk-s... Didn't work for me so if you don't want to flash again you may use exDialer from the market, it's a good app, has the "swipe" functions and ICS themes, I used it for a week before switching to RR 1.4.
Ya def need one with an odex file...

No... you don't.
Back up the .apk file you intend to replace, along with their corresponding .odex file. Then REMOVE the .odex file and replace the .apk.
For example, if he gives you Phone.apk, and you have Phone.apk and Phone.odex, then COPY your original copies of Phone.apk and Phone.odex to a safe place, then delete Phone.odex, and replace your existing Phone.apk.
I've done this before, and used a deodexed Phone app on my odexed firmware.
Tried that but it didn't seem to work, after restart i lost service and couldn't dual out and had several other services complain on me, perhaps it's not comparable with my system?

If his version of Android is different than yours, then his apps probably wouldn't work for you.
Going back to read the thread, he said he is on Resurrection Remix 1.4. Looking at the thread for that ROM, it is AOKP based, with elements from CM9. What firmware are you on? You said you're on ICS, but you never mention specifically what ROM. Are you on stock? Then yeah, his apps probably won't work for you.
damn a shame it wouldnt work, try out go dialler tho if you want quick contacts access, from the dialler you just have to swipe to change to contacts... i used to use it but the themes arent as good as the ones we have lol
That would explain it I'm running LPQ stock...

I've not seen any mods for stock ICS to have this. A quick google search also turns up nothing for stock ICS.
So if you absolutely want this in ICS, you will need to flash a custom ROM.
EDIT to add: I should rephrase; you also have the option of using a third party dialer that has contacts integrated. But if you want to have the dialer that is included in the ICS ROM to have the contacts tab, you'll need to flash a custom ROM.

Do you have the zip file of the ROM that you put on your phone? If so, you can edit the zip file using 7zip (find the apps folder) and flash that, making sure that the signature verify is turned off. This is how I used to do it on my phone, but have recently updated to using 4Ext and still finding my way around this app, but it's got app removal built in (I think).
Hope this helps :good:

Not at all, we all have to start somewhere. I'm not particularly technical myself so I will try and help as much as I can.
When you say you have rooted your phone, have you also install a custom ROM on your phone as well? To do this, you should have had a zip file that you used to flash the ROM to the phone.
I would create a copy of the ZIP file, in case you go wrong. Open up the ZIP file using 7zip (or something similar, I suggested this one as I know you can delete files from the zip file, but some other programs won't do this).
You show see two folders, click on system and then click on the app folder. You need to be careful in what you delete as it might force the phone to crash out (hence make a copy of the ZIP file, and have both of them on your phone). Simply delete the apps you don't want and then save and flash the ROM on your phone (you will need to turn off signature verify for it to work, but I'm not sure where there will be in your menu's as I don't know what recovery you are using, it's normally under "other").
Does this make anything more clearer?
If not, please explain exactly what you have done in terms of rooting and flashing a ROM.

In order to understand what it is that you want to archive, could you please tell me why you rooted your phone?
I ask as, unless you have a copy of the stock ROM, once you have flashed a ROM, you won't be able to go back to the original ROM. If you are happy to go ahead, I suggest you look around for ROM's that will work on your phone. Depending on what you want from a ROM (small size, quick loading or lots of gadgets and tweaks), you should be able to find one already working to how you would like. Some ROM's do not have any Google apps or YouTube and only have basic apps to run the phone (I had a ROM call Redux that was like this), other ROM's have many features (I've had a ROM called MIUI that was like this). If you find a ROM you like, it is better to leave the apps as they are.
I can try and help you with how to flash the ROM if you get stuck, but I did not use the superoneclick way.
As I said first, why do you want to remove apps?

Hmmmmmm, there are other things you could try if you are having issues with your phone.
I have an app called Autostarts and you can stop apps from booting when the phone is restarted or when other things happen (like a change in signal).
I also have another app called Battery Mix which is very good at finding out what apps are running and draining the battery or taking up CPU usage.
I also have another app called Quick System Info which you can set up so that when you click end tasks, it only ends tasks that you've selected (you put them on a supervise list), which is very handy if you have things like 3G monitoring or clocks that might crash if you kill them.
Maybe you need to root the phone in a different way. Try reading this

I know someone who has tried a method similar to yours and had issues, whereas I've rooted and even s-off (I have a HTC desire and s-off (sense off) is a security feature on that.
You could try this

Or this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767975 (this might not be Gingerbread but the features between each one aren't that noticable, but this ROM might make your phone run faster, as I said before, you need to think about what you want from the phone, speed or gadgets)

Stock Android Rom with no bloatware!!!

I have the HTC Desire 816 (Virgin Mobile version).
I was wondering if there was a way to get a "stock" bare version of android for it. When you get this phone it comes preloaded with a lot of junk!!! It comes with some kidsafe software a whole bunch of Virgin mobile junk and all this amazon/twiter/facebook junk.
I've rooted the phone and tried uninstalling it, but it just breaks the phone.
I've tried CM for this phone and it works great but it may not be a daily driver.
I'm curious if anybody knew of ways to effectively remove this software without affecting the operating system and/or there was a minimized version of android for this phone.

Sorry to say, I believe the only way to use this phone as stock would be CM. As you obviously know, it isn't 100% functional or even close.

It seems like there has to be a way. I remember I was rooting my wife's LG volt. In her volt the rooting process was very complex but involved downloading a LG firmware installer then downloading a LG ROM from somewhere and I flashed it to a basic (bare bones) version of android. Everything worked and it was rooted.
I guess my understanding is false, but could you get a "baseline" android OS with no drivers nothing, install it and extract the drivers from a full version. Place these drivers in your custom ROM and install it on the phone?
In M8 section there is an app called Rom Cleaner maybe its compatible with desire 816. Or use Titanium backup to remove bloatware.
The insert coin rom allows you to remove a lot of apps prior to flashing. After flashing I had 2 gig's of space free.
Sent from my 710C using XDA Free mobile app
I had the same problem because I love stock. I tried almost all the rooted apps (titanium, root uninstaller, rom toolbox) but couldn't seem to delete the system apps. But I found a way to do so.
There's a recovery application called "Aroma file manager" - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108
Flash this in recovery and delete all the system apks you want to. Make sure to mount system first before flashing
Cheers.

Cheers.

You couldn't delete the system applications because of the HTC's daft decision to add write protection to the /system partition which (in our case) can only be bypassed by paying 25$ for a Sunshine S-OFF exploit. Aroma file manager is also an option but managing the system from the system itself is way more comfy

Sorry to say, I believe the only way to use this phone as stock would be CM. As you obviously know, it isn't 100% functional or even close.
I believe you posted this in the wrong forum also.

Could you please expand on this? I am intensively considering CM12 as my main ROM and I'd love to hear what kind of problems have you experienced with it.

I apologize, I couldn't honestly tell you because it has been a long time ago since I tried CM12. It was different things with each release. I would check the thread thoroughly and ask to see what bugs are present in the latest release. I remember little things like the battery not reading correctly or data not working. I'm the type of person that needs something that is 100% functional. Esp. for my job. That's the closest you're going to get for a stock Android (aosp) rom though. I don't even use the HTC Desire 816 anymore. I ended up giving it to my daughter and I ended up getting the One M9. Good Luck.

I understand, me too - last time I used CM12 everything seemed to work pretty well but I reverted back because of the lack of slow-motion feature (Really a minor thing but I love it).
It's free after all so I'll just wait around until (and if) things get ironed out. Sense isn't half bad at all, I just prefer stock Android.
