[Q] Problem with full RAM!!! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a weird problem.Since i flashed new official ROM 3.14 yesterday my phone reports that its RAM is full(Duttys Task Manager reports 80% usage all the time).
Before,on my old ROM 1.66....Duttys TM reported 50% usage in worst cases and while playing games.
I don know what is the problem.I cant even surf because phone doesnt have enough RAM to run Opera!
Before installing new ROM i did Task 29.The phone reports that it has 576mb of RAM.
I did a Hard reset but no luck.
Help me please.

as mentioned, ,, everywhere, , , if you dont have spl 3.03 (i.e if you have hspl installed) with 3.14 rom then your ram goes missing.

Hmm..I didnt know that.
Thanks!
So,where do i get and how do i install spl3.03?

1) Tearn back on your previous stock ROM.
2) use HSPL2_RUN.exe to install SPL 1.66
3) Install stock ROM 3.14 over ActiveSync.
4) use SSPL to install custom ROM.

you shouldnt need to flash your old rom first, just run hspl.exe and remove hspl (choose 1.66.0000), then run the 3.14 flash again.

Im quite new to all this.
Just to make it clear:I download HSPL2_RUN.exe and i install it and during installation i choose to install 1.66.0000.
Didnt i installed HSPL2_RUN.exe to have hspl 2.08 in the first place?

If you have choose to install SPL 1.66.0000 than it's okay.
Yes with HSPL2_RUN you can install SPL also install HSPL
Now you need only to install stock ROM 3.14 again.

Ok,i just have two more questions:
Can i use Android on my phone given the fact that now i have SPL3.03 and ROM 3.14?
Is there any way to install some other HSPL that dont cause memory conflicts with ROM 3.14?

no. Use sspl if you want to flash other roms.

I am running HSPL 2.08 and rom 3.14 and I have full ram and everything I can even make a youtube video and show you if you want me 2

Thanks guys. You have helped me a lot!
@samsamuel, Ok,just to be sure:Its ok for me to start Android from my SD card even if i use spl3.03?Wont that brick my phone?
@rascall97, please show me what you did.I had memory problem with HSPL2.08

no idea, i dont run android, but it should be fine.
@rascall,
settings - about phone - hardware info - RAM size says 576 meg for you right?
go to settings - menu - all settings - system - memory
what are th three figures under "program memory"? something like 200 total and 60 free would be my guess.

memory specs
total program 458.74
used program 172.95
free program 285.79

then you're on the tmous rom? (or a cooked rom, that doesn;t use a full 3.14 base?)
EDIT - oh wait, dallas, t mobile symbol, , you have a tmous phone, with 576 ram.

Issue with ROM Update Utility

Hi,
I am trying to Update the ROM . I have copied the RUU_signed.nbh file to ROMUpdateUtility folder and starting my gene in Boot loader mode. When I run the ROM Update Utility , the utility is not showing the current Image version and after clicking on Update it shows the To Image version as 1.0.0.0.
Have I missed anything?
The version of SPL is 1.07.Oref
This is the problem in the ROMs and not in RUU
no need to worry
Hi,
You are right. I have downloaded another ROM. It worked fine. Can I install any contact manger and clock additionally to the exisiting programs?

I dont know the name of the rom. i have downloaded from here a couple of things.I was just trying to see how it works.Wud I be able to know what is the ROM I have on my Gene currently? Its with WM6.5.
Hi,
I have installed and checked almost all the WM 6.5 roms . For the Rom, the description says 15MB of free program memory after sometime. But for me, with any ROM after using for a while, shows program memory as 3-5MB only. Why is it so?
I want a ROM which has a memory advantage. Please suggest.
Now I have WM6.5.Can I flash with WM6.1 ROM now?
Regards,
yes u can flash 6.1 but don't flash any official rom.
there are a lot of rom with 6.5 working great why don't u try any of them.
hi,same problem here, can you teach me what i fix my problem?please....thanks

flash

Before I flash my phone for the very first time, I need to know some things.
I know there are threads who give info, but they aren't always up-to-date or handeling about my phone.
So I want to know, I heard about a third version of HSPL.
What are the things that I need to do?
If I want to install a new rom, I first install HSPL, then the rom, but do I have to install something like a radio too? or something else?
Will a custom rom always work in my language (BE/DUTCH),
and which rom is good for texting (no lag etc).
I want a clean and smooth rom, with not much BS. Any advice?
I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm stuck with them for a long long time and I want to be well prepared.
Version of OS: 5.2.21869
Manila: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM: 1.66.404.1 (76641) NLD
RADIO: 2.06.51.07
Follow this thread step by step and you cant go wrong.
Its link you to HSPL3 and anything else you might need.
It tells you how to flash a radio (if you need to).....
It will tell you which radio you need in the thread for the rom your going to use....
You just have to read through all the rom threads to find out which one is going to be best for you...... I'd reccomend energy roms... I think they might only be available in english though. Different languages available will be listed in the rom thread...
The flash only takes 10 minutes...its the reading up first thats the time consuming part....
Hope it all goes well for you
thanks for the advice, I will follow it and read everything 10 times before flashing anything

So here are the steps that I'm about to take: (first off I saved all my data, sms, etc elsewhere).
1) flash HSPL 3

My ROM is 1.66.404.1 (76641) NLD, so it seems that this is okay to do. I think I have the 'usualleo', can I check this somewhere?
When I look into RAM SIZE, it says 512 MB, and I don't know what telstra is, but I definitly won't need the last one (1024). I also think in HSPL itself, I need to choose 2.08.HSPL.
Next, I'm about to flash my first custom rom, and will follow the steps given here:
Flashing Via ActiveSync
1. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your computer
2. REMOVE SIM and microSD CARDS!! (this is a precautionary measure and is not compulsory)
3. Turn phone back on and wait until it syncs with your PC
4a. If your Rom is a .exe (customRUU.exe is already included in the Rom file) then run the file
4b. If your Rom is a .nbh file then run the CustomRUU.exe from the Roms Folder (if one isnt included then download it *HERE*)
5. Follow onscreen instructions to set up your New Rom
6. Once phone has gone through the customisation procedure then replace Sim and microSD Cards
7. Perform a Hard Reset to clear any leftover data from your previous Rom (see intructions at bottom).
8. Set up phone as required and job done.
Click to collapse
I really can't find what ROM I should use..
I want a rom with landscape built in and the sms client 2016.
Are there much roms which include this?
yea thats all OK, except you dont really need to remove sim and sd. Only if you're stroubleshooting.
Plus, most cooked roms support 'autoinstall', , , create a folder on your sd card called autoinstall, put in there any cabs that are essentials, and the rom will install them as part of the post flash setup process.
as to which rom for what, thats gotta be down to you. Theyre all good, theres no such thing as a best rom, and what works brilliantly for one person makes the next person weep with frustration.
Flashing only takes 5/10 mins, you can try out a dozen roms in an evening.
Dont forget you only need apply hspl once. It will stay there till you either flash a stock from sd card (dont do this, theres no need nowadays) or you can run hspl2 (yes, hspl2) and choose your stock spl (1.42.0000 or 1.66.0000 or whatever)
can I run HSPL 2 after I firstly installed HSPL 3 for the custom rom I'm about to choose? And I'm guessing roms come packed (7z/zip/rar), need to unpack those files I guess? How do you actually start cooking a rom?
edit: I also gonna remove everything (hard reset) before I start flashing anything, so I start clean

Download Artemis 23.0 level A NLD (this I'm about to use)
I'm gonna go with artemis, but I also want a higher radio version. should I update my radio or my rom first? And how do I know which radio is compactible with that rom? the ones adviced in the rom? http://www.pilotlogic.com/artemis/htc_hd2_radio/ these?
I'm a bit confused what steps to take, in which order.
I know I have to HSPL first, (gonna use HSPL 3)
but then I doubt which to do first, rom or radio. And is it easy to install? Can I make any mistakes on this? what are the things that need special attention? thanks in advance guys, for all the help!
doesn't matter which order, except if you do rom first your phone will hang till you enter bootloader and flash a matching radio so most people say radio first.
heres how i'd do it
1 hspl3 (only needs doing once, not every time you flash)
2 enter bootloader manually
3 flash the radio
4 when it gets to 100% and is about to reboot, hold down voldown to go back into bootloader
5 flash the rom
6 allow phone to boot properly

Watch each step before you do it, that way you know what to expect.....

I'm scared if I flash my rom first my cell won't startup because of incompactibility with my phone's rom? Or reversed ways. Can anyone advise me before I start?
Edit: took a leap of faith and trusted on the posts above, and I'm now running a new radio now only my rom and I'm done. Gonna see the video's and tuts first. I'll keep you updated. yes, and it's all thanks to you guys here at xda, I even got to try android wow. But I'm gonna stick to mobile shell for a while, combine it with a new rom I'm about to select

Well obviously we got a problem with my HD2

Hi everybody,
Well yesterday i figured out that i could update my rom.
I started to look the Arthemis thread to find out what's new.
I saw SSPL and the 3.14 rom.
I downloaded the 3.14 rom and i installed it.After that i took the SSPL and the Arthemis V42 Rom and tried to install it. No success.
After that i took the energy rom to install it and it works but i still have the 3.14 rom display instead of the energy rom.
So right now i'm a little bit stuck cause i don't know what to do
Here's my specs:
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
Systeme version : 5.2.21684 (21684.5.3.10)
Manila version : 2.5.20191914.0
Rom version: 09 November 2010 FRE
Radio Version: 2.12.50.02_2
Protocol Version : 15.40.50.07U
So i'm asking you guys a little help please to put energy or new arthemis back in my phone.
Thanks for your help
Ps: ( I need help on how to put my phone back to normal i'm a little confused about SSPL and the 3.14 rom :s )
run Task29
! Read Edit 2 down below first !
Well, you could try to run Task29. That will purge your ROM and leaves it nice and perfectly clean for another ROM without the risk of residua in the memory.
You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5848003&postcount=19
You will need to install a radio ROM after that, too. But having the memory wiped clean this way between installs is a good way to avoid trouble.
ThoroSOE
Edit 1: To reset your phone to normal (SPL, too) just download an original ROM and unpack the file with something like 7zip. Take the largest file (easy to spot) and rename it to LEOIMG.nbh. Copy that to your freshly formattet memory card and bring up your phone to the bootloader screen (power up with volume down pressed). It will then prompt to install the original ROM. This will overwrite HSPL and any ROM and Radio ROM you installed.
Edit 2: It could be that with ROM 3.14 the SPL is too new for HSPL! Mind that it just supports specific SPL versions! Check that! I think 3.14 has an 3.XX SPL version.
Before I could install HSPL properly I had to downgrade my ROM with an older original one to get the proper SPL (see Edit 1).
Thanks i try it now ill let you know.
Sir you don't need to look fare for your problem.
The problem is that stock ROM 3.14 isn't compatible with HSPL!!
And about Artemis ROM; I suggest you to take your time and read the "How to install?" At the Artemis ROM.
If you did it; you was ale to see you need to remove HSPL before install stock ROM 3.14!
thanks kurt-willems for answering me.

Sir I don't see how I can write a better step by step guide on how to do it.
I will suggest you to read these post's.
If you have a unbranded device:

Ore this in case you have a branded device:

PS; if you have random questions, follow the link at my signature "Q&A: How? Where? what? Ideas? [New Users?]"
And if your have other questions, just ask. but it is important to read and follow the institutions.
Thanks again kurt-willems for your answer.
So after reading the entire post on how to flash arthemis rom i did all the steps but i am stuck at the step 7
7. Run SSPL_RUU.exe with Artemis v40 RUU_Signed_0409.nbh in the same folder - YOU HAVE TO BE ON HOME SCREEN, NOT BOOTLOADER (this took me 3 tries until succeded - yes - nerve wrecking, but works). If it doesn't work (hangs on black screen for more than 2min or stays at 0%) remove the battery and try again. If still doesn't work - try solutions in NOTE below.
I did all as it is explained in the thread my SSPL is good etc but when i launch SSPL + arthemis nbh, i got into the bootloader.
I tried like 5 times and i start to be angry.
So if you can help me it would be great.
Thanks
Ok i dont have nerves to do it again, can you guys just simply explain me how to uninstall SPL 3.03 and just install HSPL 2 and put a simple rom cause right now my phone don't work because of that.
Thanks you guys for reading me.
If you will install Artemis ROM I suggest you to use v42.0!
I/we know that flashing over SSPL isn't alway's easy (it will not start alway's)
but some important things to know is to deactivate your Anti-Virus; and creating a file with only the rom.nbh and SSPL_RUU in it nothing els!
(PS; Artemis ROM v42.0 starts better than previous v41.0 (own experience))
But if you will return to previous settings;
Reinstall a previous stock ROM ex 1.66 ore 1.47 (depending of you're aria)
Reinstall HSPL use HSPL3_RUN.exe fore this.
Thank you kurt willems for your time.
So after reading a lot of things , i did everything but im still stuck at the installation of the arthemis rom.
I got a message in the phone saying: This program is trying to acces to your phone etccc... Bootloader.exe. And if i say YES then the program launch bootloader and the installation fails. If i say NO then the program stops.
I'm downloading right now the version 42 of arthemis and i will give it a try.
If its doesnt working then i'll rollback to my previous rom.
Thanks again for your time.

I know this event sir, I have guide lot of users in this part. When you are on the bootlouder screen and at the bottom there is no mention of "usb" the installation will fail.
Its very important to be sure that your device is connect (control it in Active sync), Anti-Virus is turn off, the folder have only the rom.nbh and the SSPL_RUN (nothing more) in it, changing from USB port if you can.
And don't double click on SSPL_RUU fore run, but left click on it and select run ass administrator.
Lately I guide a other user on this and it have takes him 5 tray's
Ow, to be sure you have a good SSPL_RUU version takes mine: Download
Thanks but right now i just want one thing.. My phone to work.
I downloaded V42 and still the same problem.
I downloaded stock rom V1.93 from orange and i can't install it , don't ask me why.
So right now basically my phone is on the stock 3.14 rom and i don't know what to do to put an old rom and to flash to a energy rom with HSPL 3.
Seriously this all thing start to piss me off , no offence guys you making good stuff but sometimes its just to risky to flash.
I followed all the steps one by one and right now i got a useless phone in my hands.
I'm searching a way to get an old rom to be installed and desinstall SSPL.
If you can help me it would be great , im still searching.
You can flash a older stock ROM over SD.
Read my first post. There you can read how to reset to stock (Edit 1). Use an older stock ROM for a proper SPL that works with HSPL.
Install HSPL as instructed in the "how to flash everything" thread.
Run Task29 (see my first post)
Install Radio ROM with x.50.x in it from desktop via Active Sync (you need a Custom_RUU.nbh and the desired Radio ROM).
Install the main ROM you like, f.e. Energy ROM (that's what I use) normally from destop via Active Sync (Energy is one package that works like an official update).
Never had any problems with this way, never needed more than one try.
Hey ThoroSOE i rode Edit 1 and Edit 2.
I hope its not that much to ask but, could you give me a WWE rom like you said in Edit 1 to put it in the SD card ?
It would be really appreciated.
I'm downloading right now a official orange rom (1.66) but i tried installing the 1.43 and it didnt worked, thats why i'm asking you the question for a WWE rom to accomplish what u told me on Edit 1.
Thanks you guys for helping me.
Ok i'm trying this right now Edit 1: To reset your phone to normal (SPL, too) just download an original ROM and unpack the file with something like 7zip. Take the largest file (easy to spot) and rename it to LEOIMG.nbh

SSPL isn't install on your device! so there is no need to remove it.
Did you tray to install stock ROM over SD!?
Witch are your errors you get?
Hmmm. Installing an official ROM from SD card shouldn't be a problem. If you have a branded device you should install an official ROM that matches your provider and area. For later purposes like installing HSPL it doesn't matter how old it is - as long as it is not too NEW ;-)
That way of installing a ROM (via SD card) ist kind of the brute way. As long as you use a ROM matching your provider and/or area it should overwrite ANYTHING in your phone memory...
When I unsintalled HSPL for the first time that way my HD2 aborted the update in midprocess but restarted updating automatically. After that it went through without problems; I didn't have to do anything.
I used the official 1.66 ROM from the HTC support page (unlocked device).
IMPORTANT: Did you name the ROM file for the SD card LEOIMG.nbh - in all capital letters? As I understand it, the bootloader is case sensitive. So it must be LEOIMG and not leoimg. Also did you format your SD card properly? It must be FAT 32, 4092K - and better not be done with quick formatting.

I format my SD card by the format option on the HTC leo.So i don't know if it's the good way to do it ?

My personal favorite is Radio 2.15.50 ore 2.12.50
You can find the Radio collection here.
Personally I like the Android 2.2 based from the HD Desire. Link

If you have some other questions let us know. I'm not a expert at Android; but the basis knowledge I know; and otherwise other peoples will pick it up.

Sorry; like I mentioned before I didn't read your previous post completely.
It's normal that your first Android boot takes a wail.
Normally you need to have one folder on your SD "android" and in this folder all files extracted.
Also using the data.img is recommended.
and yes; the kernel is build in.
so i have to download 512mb data for my phone and the android folder? and both on the sd card? or the img data inside the android folder?

You can use the 512MB ore the 1GB date.img file, (Personally I use the 1GB)

No sir; this isn't normal behavior.
Normally it's just the first boot that takes lot of time; ons all is set the second boot must bee faster.
On witch SD card do you work?

Attention:
It's very important to remove HSPL in combination with the latest stock ROM (3.14).
using HSPL in combination with stock ROM 3.14 cause lot of problems and instability. so remove HSPL.
And yes stock ROM 3.14 is compatible with Android. (HSPL isn't needed for Android.)
good to know that. thank you. ill remove hspl later and i guess i should do it with sspl then. i just hope my class 6 card will be delivered today. thank you for your advices and help.
i dont know what i did...but i cant get back to radio 3.03...my stats so far:
original spl 2.08
rom: 3.14.407.2 stock

Radio 3.03 ? I suggest you mean SPL 3.03.
Re flash your stock ROM 3.14 again; this will upgrade normally your SPL version.
If it don't change by flashing over ActiveSync; try to flash over SD.
Personally I don't think that your SPL 2.08 version will caused a problem; but maybe its better to have SPL 3.03 in combination with stock ROM 3.14.
yes my fault i mean spl 3.03...with activesync not working im gonna try out with sd...thanks sir...ur such a great help

If flashing over SD is to complicated you can do also this:
- Flash a previous stock ROM 1.66/1.48 over ActiveSync.
- Flash stock ROM 3.14 again over ActiveSync.
ok. at the moment it has white screen with loading... written on it...if that not work im gonna try the other way

[Q] screen freezes and does not boot

Hello there,
I bought my HTC HD2 two weeks ago, and when I received it, it had a ROM of a 3.14 Version with a Radio of 2.15.50
(RUU_Leo_S_HTC_GER_3.14.407.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship). The previous buyer told me he had Android Running on SD Card.
When I started "playing" with the phone, I got a lot of Screen Freezes during any app (Internet, Mail, Facebook). Not only did the screen frooze, but also did the no longer start up properly. Either it didnt hang during the Logo, or when entering the PIN. Even during Hardware resets it frooze sometimes.
As the described ROM from above not the "real" supported ROM for THAT HD2 is, I flashed the original 1.72 Version with a Radio of 2.07.51 (RUU_Leo_TMO_DE_1.72.111.4_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship downloaded directly from HTC.com).
I thought, maybe its the ROMs problem. However, now I face the same problems and start to think the problems are hardware related. Am I correct there, or do you guys have any other thoughts?
Could be hardware related indeed.
Did you try to run your device without SD card?
Sometimes, older SIM cards can also cause trouble.
And finally, what SPL is on your device now? You can check this information in the bootloader screen.

I have a SPL-2.08.0000 (not HSPL). I run it without the SD Card aswell, but i got the same issues. Since I still have warranty on the phone, do u think I should make use of it and send it in? but then I want to make sure, that there are no traces on my phone that I installed some Android NAND versions...

mine is t-mobile, but a GERMAN t-mobile, I'm not having the US-version. but what did u do? did u get a fix?
now my phone is stuck again in the boot logo, which gives me the perfect opportunity to write down all the details:
R 2.07.51.22~2
G 15.32.50.07U
D 1.72.86525
anything wrong with that? I flashed the rom, which i downloaded directly from HTC.com (the only capable for my phone (TMOU GERMANY))

Well, you do have the older T-Mob ROM, combined with a newer SPL.
Try to flash SPL 1.66 with the program HSPL2.exe before sending it anywhere, then make a hard reset. Re-try again with the SD card out, in the worst case, there might be some buggy data in the application data folder (if there is one).

Thank you. with the SPL 1.66 Windows is running smooth again. But what caused all the crashes in the 3.14 version with SPL 2.08 or in Android NAND Versions with 2.08.HSPL ?? I think if I send my phone in for warranty, they tell me everything is fine with the phone....

The official 3.14 ROM shouldn´t run with any other SPL than 3.03.
NAND ROMs require MAGLDR, and this, on the other hand, requires HSPL 2.08. If there was still a different SPL on your device (which should be checked by the tool, as far as I remember, and therefore, I don´t know if that´s possible), you might have to source of problems.
The 2 major sources of problems are a) a wrong Radio ROM or b) a corrupt SD card, in some rarer cases an older SIM card.
If your system and device are running properly now, I think it might be indeed a waste of time to send it to a service center. If you like, it might be worth to give another try with a proper installation: Put HSPL 2.08 on your device, then Radio ROM 2.15.50.04, then MAGLDR 1.13, and then a nice Android NAND build.
No need to ever boot into Windows once you start all that flashing stuff.

I gave it a try, but for some reason I am unable to flash any rom anymore. I tried to flash it via SD card and via the .exe file through the bootloader. Through the .exe file the process only proceeded until 8 or 10% and aborted. Through the SD-Card it only showed the grew screen for a few seconds and returns to bootloader with "Upgrade ROM code error Please try again"
Apperantly I did something wrong, but I dont know what. Ytd I was still able to flash the original stock windows 1.72 rom from sd card, but even that one is not working anymore.

I also tried installing only the radio rom, but that fails somehow as well. I flashed Radio Rom
Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14
Leo_RADIO_2.14.50.02
Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2
which i found in this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
they flash to 100% but then I get a message on the phone "Software update failed. Please try again" and the computer says "This Update cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check your update Utility.
anyone has any idea?
i dont know what to do anymore, the only flashing that works is hspl. i dont want to try magdlr, since the rom before hat a .51 radio, but i cant flash roms or radios....
i need some help, please.
If you tried everything, and only the official 1.72 ROM runs properly, the last remaining tip would be task 29. But I´m afraid, now that we can exclude almost everything, that the service center might be a good idea.
I would re-flash the latest ROM, which doesn´t perform well as you write, and send the device in to get it fixed.

what is task 29? I havent heard about it till yet? I will give it a try. Currently I'm trying all combinaitions to at least get 1.72 to get flashed again. This one isnt flashing either right now.
big news:
I have no idea why it worked but it did.
After flashing the entire night with different methods and ROMs and Radios, I almost gave up, and thought my phone is bricked. However, i didnt touch it at all until this afternoon.
First I run HSPL.2.08 again,
then I tried to flash the Stock ROM via SD didn't work.
then I tried to flash the Stock ROM via USB: here it used to stop at 10% and gave me an error.... this time it stopped at 10% for like 30sec and then continued!!!
So now I put SPL.1.66.0000 again to have it in original condition. Can I send it in under warranty like this? Every trace has been removed, correct?
I still don't know what is wrong with the phone. 48h ago, when nothing worked, the only flashing method which did work was via SD. Then I was at branded T-mobile Windows 6.5 on a 1.72 ROM. (Basically exactly where I am now) However, THEN I tried to flash to a higher ROM (3.14) to have a radio of .50 (to flash MAGDLR etc). but this never succedded and I ended up with one flash error after the other.
For a moment I thought my Radio is broken, since I could not flash any Radio. However all the radios i tried to flash were .50 radios. The radio of the current 1.72 ROM is however a .51 version. Does that mean I have some sort of "Radio-Lock" on my phone?
If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know, but I think I dont wanna flash anything until I get the device back from HTC. However, once it get it back, how do I know that I can flash to the higher ROM again?? I am very cautious and distrustful to my phone right now.
