Very much lagg during sms writing - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Since I updated to 2.1 (via Nordic region, Seus, now 2.1 Nordic), when I write texts, i get very much lag. Mostly when i'm on the line between the first and second sms.. And between the time of the second and third sms. So around 140 - 170 symbols and 310 -340 symbols. THere it lags very much.
How come?
I do have 6600 Sms's total, and 3500 in the contact this commonly occurs. (it's my GF, I text her alot )
Thanks in advance

I do too or well, did. The stock keyboard makes it lag up so I've been using the HTC one and all is good.
One thing to consider ... maybe call your girlfriend? Lol

lol my phone does it too, i think its just the way the new messaging app is, its pretty slow. (i have like almost 4000 to my gf lolol)

Handscent lag?

Has anyone downloaded Handcent to their phone? Then added all their previous texts back?
If so , does it lag like it did on the OG EVO? This one issue has me on the fence about getting this phone.
Sent from my Evo via Tapatalk
I loaded ~900 texts onto the 3vo and have handcent. I haven't noticed the lag I had on the og evo.
900 might be too low....I have around 21,000 (yea I hate deleting them )
Sent from my Evo via Tapatalk
im having the same problem...i believe it is the app because i have 24000 about and the stock app, chomp, and go were loading everything real speedy...if i can recall, it was working fine until i got the updates :/

20 some thousand lol why do you keep so many?
Sent from a dual core beast 3VO. Do this on your iFail 4
I am gonna say it has something to do with the massive amount of texts you have saved ... lol. Do you really need to keep that many?

Yes.....I was hoping the dual core goodness of the phone would make the program run buttery smooth no matter the text amount.

Its the app.
Each text you have loaded up takes a lil hit in memory/cache
And with that many you'd be really asking a lot of a program to want it to manage them without lag...
With that being said, I'm at about 1,000 and no issues in stock messenger
Besides the unread bug
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter
you can try go sms, its pose to be better so they say
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter
Go SMS is 1000 times better than Handcent, so many customizable options for Go SMS, and it looks so clean and nice. Very fast and smooth, rarely ever had a crash running it on my EVO 4G.
But...since the 3VO has the revised stock message app, I am sticking with it, looks much nicer now, and the stock HTC app just works better, no hiccups or issues. And I was a BIG fan of Go SMS, but just like the new stock message app better now.

Keyboard has tracing!

Just found this in settings > language and keboard > touch input > tracing keyboard. Now I dont need Swype or Ultra Keyboard!
I tried and it didn't work for me actually.

Yeah, I noticed that too but after I did the keyboard calibration, it seems to have fixed it... so far!
I've tried it before (not on this phone though) and it doesn't seem to work as well as swype does.
I figured everyone found out about this 1 right when they got the phone.
are used it for about a day and a half and it is really sucked, I went back to swype.

Nothing will be good as swype I think. I actually didn't know about this but I'm about to try it

I noticed it only works in certain apps. I turn it on and it works in Email, but not in the market.

The HTC Trace doesn't work for the market, search, or the web browser. Does work for emails and messages though. This ticked me off so I went to swype.
Ooh. I like this! can't seem to do "wow" or "cool".
I can't find swype in the market. This is my search results for "swype"
https://market.android.com/search?q=swype&so=1&c=apps
I tried "swype keyboard" too and can't seem to get to it. Was trying from my phone then tried on my laptop and got the above.
You have to get it from their site. http://www.swype.com/
Hm... I prefer the bigger default kb. Is there a way to use swype with a different kb or do you have to use theirs?

Swype is a keyboard replacement, and once you have it installed, it will, as the word implies, replace your keyboard. So, yes, you have to use theirs.
I have been using Swype for over a year; while the first few days took some effort as I got used to it, I find the benefit for the time invested is well worth it. I can "type" out texts much faster than tapping on a tiny keyboard.
I love the mode, it's much better than typing with thumbs, just prefer using the built in trace with the built in kb since it's bigger and I can make the trace line red.
I'll have to see if it's annoying for me to have to turn on swype for browsers and market and also if it's annoying to switch kbs for that or if it's less annoying to just get used to the swype's kb and use it for everything.

SMS Problems - Texts out of order

I got my Note today and when having a conversation with my sister on it I noticed that when I responded to her texts mine would sometimes go above hers. (see image) It wasn't just in GoSMS also happened in the stock program. Has anyone had this issue before and know how to resolve?
Image: my texts are on left. In the set of two light green/yellow texts the first one should be above the green one that is above it, because it is my sister's text and THEN my response in dark green.

I had the same thing and mines even deleted itself. No clue on how to fix this. Hope someone does.
I knew I wasn't the ONLY person that actually wrote text messages that are readable and in english instead of
"oh rly dat wy he knw do dat nomor"
I thought I read somewhere about someone having this issue with android..I'll look and see if I can find it.
My Inspire used to do this too, it started doing it about 1 or 2 months ago. It happens if I fire off a response right after receiving a text although I will say it hasn't happened on the Note yet.

Am having the same issue.
My Photon 4G did this just the other day. I responded to a 4 week old SMS, then when I went back to look at it because it seemed oddly familiar, the old message had moved back where it belonged.

I have had this when i am texting with someone in different time zone. 2 weeks ago i was in Wisconsin texting family in Florida. This issue cropped up.:banghead:
I've even noticed that my responses seem to travel back in time by one minute.
When I instantly respond my text will not only be put above the text I responded to but also my response will be put back in time. Weird. I'll respond to a text I received at 6:53 and my response gets logged in as sent at 6:52.

[Q] WhatsApp..guys what is this????

Can someone explain me what is this?Isn't whatsapp supposed to be free???
hmmm, maybe a troll post but I'll bite...I don't use the app, but I'm pretty sure that it's free for the first year and after that its $.99..
from the app description
"WhatsApp Messenger is a smartphone messenger available for Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Phone and Nokia phones. WhatsApp uses your 3G or WiFi (when available) to message with friends and family. Switch from SMS to WhatsApp to send and receive messages, pictures, audio notes, and video messages. First year FREE! ($0.99/year after)"
Yep i agree. I am a whatsapp user and it gives service for one year only. After that it charges some fee for you to use it. That fee is this. So all you can do is pay the fee or buy a new sim. Hope i helped .

This. And 99 cents per year for the best messaging app available is ridiculously cheap.
Thanks guys, haven't read the description, much clearer now
Weird... They gave me a free extra year... Found a notification in my bar that told me the stretched it...
Mine too, They gave me a free extension for 1 year and showed me the pop up.
I only received 3 months

Hahaha they always extend it!!! don't worry about it.
I really don't get the whole fuzz about What's App... if you have 3G or Wifi... you can connect to all your friends via GTalk, Skype, etc, etc.... If you don't... then you cannot use it either...

Because those actually use more data than whatsapp, not to mention whatsapp is always on and less resource heavy than most apps.
Whatsapp is tied to your mobile number, so you don't need to re-add your friends one by one again, and get their emails/Skype IDs (sure, you can search for them using Skype, but it's not always accurate and everything being automated is easier).
Plus what the above poster said.
Just connect it whatsapp service in an iPhone phone it will extend ur service for 10 years...
It's worked for me and my friends....just have a try

Found a news thread that said that Whatsapp is going to be paid. They extended it for free because there was no general method to pay the small fee. Seems like they have found it... Paid mine, just to make sure...
EDIT: news thread is in dutch, so I won't bore you with it... For the ones that can read it: http://www.nu.nl/gadgets/2969166/whatsapp-android-en-blackberry-wordt-betaald.html
I just received an extension of 3 months... $.99 is a good price after all

I've been getting extensions all the time since August 2010 when I first started using it. My current trial expires on 07/02/2013.
Why not use LINE? We are using this at the moment.
And Hike is also an awesome replacement for WhatsApp. Try it. If you are from India, you'll be getting free SMS'es as well

Mms compressed when received

This wasn't happening when I first got the phone but now it is happening all the time when I receive photos through messages. Downloading other sms apps doesn't work either. Please help if you can. What's the point of having such a big beautiful screen if I can't use it all.very frustrating
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I'm coming from Sprint and the HTC EVO 4G LTE and I have to say I'm really surprised and disappointed by this. I was able to send 2MB pics via MMS over Wifi with my EVO LTE.
I'm not sure if it's an HTC or a T-Mobile thing, but I hope there is a fix for it.
Well t-mobile has a 1mb limit, so if the picture is bigger than that, it does get compressed.
HTC One™
For example: Original picture is 526KB with a resolution of 720X1280. As soon as it's added as an MMS it's automatically compressed to 63KB ... but the same resolution. Upon being the MMS being received it's been reduced to a resolution of 432X768. Size and resolution reduced considerably on a picture that does not exceed 1000KB.
It has to be a htc thing because everything I'm reading on has to do with the evo, the one, the one x, the one v. I started using hangout and that solved the problem. I don't wanna use it forever but it will do for now

It's a problem that has been with the HTC One since day 1. I've made a couple threads on it as have other people. I'd link them up but that's too much work from the ipad. Bottom line is there is no fix and receiving pics via mms sucks on the phone and the only option is to switch to a different one. . I think I'm actually going to pick up a s4 because it drives me crazy.

i never noticed this problem on my evo lte. not once. this is actually the only thing i hate about this phone. been using imgur to upload pics and share links instead of mms, but it stinks that i have to.
and this is why I use gmail to send pics
I've been experiencing the same thing with downsized MMS pics on my One. The people who send me MMS are all using iPhone's or other Android devices, and the pics all come through much smaller than I would expect.
Then today I received a MMS that had a much larger-sized and seemingly-higher-res photo. Interestingly, it was from my father, who is using an LG flip phone (not a smartphone). It's not an old phone, maybe a year, with a 3mp camera. But I thought it was odd that of all the MMS I get that are low-res, that his pics from his non-smartphone would actually come through in higher resolution. Just an interesting observation.
My device: HTC One on T-Mobile US, in Portland, Oregon
My father's device: LG flip phone (not sure model) on AT&T in Portland, Oregon.
Only person I really get MMS from are my fiance & she has a One also they come through like I took them myself.
