Ok, yes i know this question has been asked countless number of times, but is this possible??.
the reason why i would like to have this OS is for the apps and games.
If there is no one out there willing to do this port, thn pls give me a clue on how i could do so, i wouldn't mind spending some free time porting this OS i just need to know how to do it
And pls no clever comments about how this is a stupid question, and u dont want it blah blah blah

While it sounds like a good idea, I think you will have serious issues, with respect to the HD2's hardware vs. the iPhone. Since the OS is closed, and developed for specific hardware, runing it would take reverse enginering the existing drivers and creating all new ones from scratch. This is porbably the biggest hurdle you will face. Not to mention issues with addressing the memory, differances in chip archetecture, and licencing issues, I doubt this will ever come to fuition.
If you like the iOS so much, get a ipod touch to use with your phone (Over WiFi Teather- which is what I do) but I don't think this project will go anywhere

with enough resources, emulation may be possible, however, I think the overhead of runing an emulator, running an app, would cause teh apps to run very slowly. Most emulators for WM, emulate lesser powered processors (Gameboy, NES, Playstation, DOS, Mac (Old style system 7 Mac Classic),c64) However I think the iphone/ipad probably have a very simmilar chip in terms of speed, to the HD2. While the older hardware may have been inferior, it would still exceede the processing power of existing emulators. Also, you would have to emulate just about everything on a hardware level, which again will slow things down. So while theoretically possible, I will say this is also highly unlikely. I think you would have simmilar issues to porting, and even if solved by emulation, the result would be incredible slow apps.
Again, you can pick up a cheap used touch, and teather with WiFi, and do almost everything an iPhone can do, and much better than emulation could ever do. I will add, WiFi teather is available on the NRG Rom's for the HD2, and works quite well. Also if you are still stock ROM, you may want to flash/upgrade to a custom ROM like the one in my sig...

wht an ass -.-
hmm, an emulator would be nice, if only to shove it down an iDrones throat! The number of 'apps' (what happened to calling them 'programs'?) is the only thing they have over us, even if 90%+ are junk.
I've read in several places that upto the 3GS, the processor was about 660 MHz, way slower than the HD2
I've not heard what the iClone4 A4 processor speed is yet.
Interesting idea re the iPod touch, but I don't want to carry a second device & the screen is too small! ;-)
As has been said in every other iOS on the HD2 thread, the kernel is where porting happens, and it IS open source. Also porting the mach kernel has been done before, as both iOS and Mac OS run off it. So yes iOS can be ported to other platforms like the HD2, but apple's legal team would be all over it before anyone got started. The only way not to get sued if it were to happen would be to not distribute the port, the most that could be done would be posting up detailed instructions. But it defeats the purpose if you can't distribute it from the devs to the end user.
LMAO
Who would like to put iOs on such a great smartphone ? I mean a real smartphone ?
Anyway thank you that was funny to read !

ok my opinion in that is:
1- yes kernel wise it CAN be done
2- it IS nice t say we can do it
3- should we burn time/resources/devs for a NICE thing to do

Dear community,

Stop wasting your time and if you have programming skills (I don't), try to port Android on Raphael. I mean Please Focus on something everybody can use. Windows is going nowhere.. and Android is here with big promises.
I believe Raphael is too much of a device for a crippled OS like Windows. I am sure there are millions of people would think the same way.
WinMo:
Still 65K colors, buggy like Bill Gates, sweaty like Steve Balmer.. Touch Pro is one of the coolest devices one can own, but with an ugly ass OS, it becomes completely useless. WinMo has completed it's lifecycle.. 6.5 has no major pluses over 6.1 even 5.0.. The MS mentality for programming needs a communist revolution.
I will try to stick around.. I am sure there will be a huge success if skilled developers focus on porting Android on HTC devices and will make our devices more useful..
Thank you all, especially the aforementioned chéfs.
I don't want Android OS on my Raphael. 65k is enough, I don't have any bugs (using latest official HTC ROM), I have tons of great, useful applications for WM and I do think that WM is the most powerful platform of all. iPhone and Symbian possibilities are ridicioulus comparing with WinMo, and Android is still new...

Me or him?
Even though I like android (had it on my kaiser), I still prefer windows mobile. Its just so customizable. But the more choices we have the better, so I say if we can then lets do it.
But to say only the 3 listed roms are good is a little narrow-minded and disrespectful. I have tried a lot of roms and I believe they are very good in their own ways. Like the Mystic Roms were a favorite before, for great aesthetics and battery life. Or the Louzeberry, very original... and thats just those two.
Hope you understand that not everyone has one taste in roms that's why we have so many, and all the chef's deserve a little praise for their hard work.
I'd like to see android on fuze/touch pro, if for nothing other than more freedom of choice and general competition.
More competition makes for better innovation.
You know, i'm quite tempted to make a "madlib" from your post, changing around a few nouns here and there would make it alot more accurate

Not possible...well at least not now.
Someone would have to decompile and decrypt the whole firmware and rebuild it for the HD2 with the proper drivers. It'd be very difficult, since Apple's firmware isn't open source.

I never said WP7 was open source. I know it's not open source, but no devs are working on iOS to try to port it, so atm it's not possible. Also WP7 is more open than iOS. Windows 7 isn't open source, but you can do registry hacks and customize it more. With Mac you can't really. No one is going to put in the effort to port iOS. So sorry to bring this to YOU, it's not total bs.

okay if everybody shoots of an idea at first sight then things are never gonna happen, that's one thing I know for sure.

James_Caliber is correct. You can't compare running WP7 on the HD2 to running iOS on the HD2. The HD2 version of WP7 was built to run on hardware that is basically the same as the HD2. iOS is not, so it would need a complete recode of all the drivers, which would mean decompiling the entire OS.
Anyway, on-topic, I don't know of any dev even interested in doing this (I'm not saying there aren't any - just that I know of none). I think the vast majority of people that use this forum are not interested in iOS, and by vast majority I do not mean everyone, so responding "I want it" doesn't change the validity of the statement.
look the way iOS is build is totally different then WP7,
but you guys go offroad, the OP his question is: is it possible?
so I say yes, it is. will somebody do it? maybe your right, maybe nobody will..
Thanks for all the answers folks!

Where did you get the idea that I don't like iOS? I am no fan boy of any OS and I think it's a pretty nice OS, just too closed and missing some features. I don't feel offended, I just know what I'm talking about lol.
It would be hell harder than porting WP7 to HD2.
Also, I think that Apple would sue us all for even thinking of doing such things .
Hey, you probably heard that WP7 has been ported on HD2.
Well, that's a great start. But I think we can try it out... Even it would be a lot buggy or slow or anything else... I think if we contact DFT (Dark Forces Team) they might help us out... I know it's near impossible (because of our ARMv6 CPU. == WP7 needs an ARMv7 CPU which HD2 has it.) But it's not impossible completely... Let's do something about it... What do you say devs?
I'm just waiting for the hackers team is to discuss about this. Because I am only new person in the world PHONE.
im will suporter to u all
Come on ,it will be great to run wp7 on topaz
Oh golly, because you demanding it will sure make them motivated.
When you say "Lets do something" you must mean, "I cant do it, can you do it for me?". Why not learn reverse engineering, and then doing something yourself? Because realy, if you want dev's to do all the work for you, you obviously should stick to the Windows-GUI manipulation level, doubt being spoof-feed will help you.

I know you have some developing skills, although I dont know if it goes beyond changing the registry and gui-manipulation, but the system-level developers are unlikely to port the Windows 7 to the Topaz, mainly because its a old device now, outdated and slow.
(And I know that you've got some knowledge because I used eclipse for few days, good ROM)

And wouldn't that be great!!!!
That ain't true I find that the ui from wp7 is lite and simple. This can easily be ported to our devices with a little magic. But The part of windows live games or xbox live is the part that our devices cant handle. Our devices aren't old they where made cheap by htc and att to cover some sectors of the market. But our devices could have been easily been made with the same stuff as hd2, as few months passed since each launched.
The ui is simpler than ours and faster I think it could be done......just that I need to finish studying by then to make this. And I don't think of waiting is another great idea. As we are shadowed by what could have been if we had a twin processor to hd2's. But, we bought this and I find it great!
And please respect each other!!!!!
I think it's NOT possible because of hardware requirements.

I agree... But no one is taking TD2 seriously. Because there are at least 2 similar devices (TP2, THD) no one is focusing on TD2. That's why we don't see any salient improvement on Android development. HD2 devs focused on it and made the progress finished soon. I think the best way we can do right now, is contacting Cotulla from DFT. He could help me and other devs. I just don't know how to contact him!

AH man! I've been focussing on another site. WWW.htc-pure.com, which I am a moderator. And for years I've been here quietly. but I think I will try to move here to help. Lets see what I can do.
wp7 requires ARMv7 instruction set on cpu. but topaz is just ARMv6 i think. that's why I think it's not possible
Moreover, why would you want WP7? The only thing it has going for it is that it runs smoothly and doesn't crash, which it would NOT do if someone did manage to port it. Better off building skins over 6.5.x; that way you could at least retain functionality...

actually, hd2 had devices that only need to be (partially) reverse-engeneered. hell some libs etc worked directly from Desire, cotulla took half of its radio SW to get rmnet data working and ...HD7...well it's hd2 without hardware buttons!...
magldr is child's play and development was over in 2 months but they kept it testing for that time to see how phone will respond to tottaly diffrent os.
now find something like that for Touch(something).
htc was lazy with hardware at the time and hackers took advantage of that.
but these devices nature is so much different that every piece of system would have to be homebrew-and devs struggle with android for a long time with sources and inch from their nose. imagine rewriting even basic parts of kernel to support armv6 without any proper source. i truly can't imagine wp7 being done...
even with few developers, reasonable timeframe would be over year or two!
i own 3 htc phones and one td2 just for fun of it, to see evolution of htc's over the years.. go buy yourself hd2 if you really wish to hack the hell out of your phone. they go really cheap - around $200 - and save yourself time

you are confusing secretive with lacking in time. Some things don't get shared, because otherwise everyone bugs me about it, and the little time I do have for things ends up being eaten up by those people. Other things don't get shared because they are simply tests that may or may not even pan out.

My comment wasnt ment to be a flame, i'm patiently waiting myself for anything you can come up with, its just sometimes i'd love to know how far your getting etc
tbh i've been desperate to get ubuntu on this thing since i bought it... now i've bought a new laptop, i barely use it anymore.

I didn't interpret what you said as a flame, I was just "going on record" so to speak The development cycle is rather unique due to the device specificities so I have been avoiding creating a new thread so I can keep focused on that. I will be creating a thread soon(tm) for a preview build though (no eta).

This shouldn't be too hard I hope. Considering the prime and n7 share almost everything. The rear cam/keyboard and microsd might be issues. But the kernel may just pickup the cam/microsd.

no, they are not similar devices, they share a cpu/gpu combo, that is pretty much the end of it.
One question it always bug me. When canonical first started to talk about their project some people mention it would be like an app you download out of the market. But if a new kernel is needed, that's not possible, right? The pad would even need to be unlocked.

Most likely yes. Most users looking for Ubuntu are probably unlocked considering that usually flashing anything besides an update requires unlocking.

Canonical said no such thing, ubuntu-on-android is something entirely different to this, it works much like splashtop does on the atrix. They also never said that end users would be able to access it from the play store, it requires being integrated by OEMs.

I wasn't clear, what I meant is that after canonical's anoncement I heard rumors from random people talking about that. And that always bugged me cuz I couldn't figure out how would they pull that off. But what u said makes more sense.
If I did mention it would be a clone of Gingerbread that pretends it's something else. I have it on my phone and it seems to perform quite well with no bugs. One of the difference between this taboo rom and CM7 is that the former runs Chrome while the latter returns the this is not compatible with the operating system blah blah blah..
Might not be significant to most but I love Chrome and can't help wondering why I can't run it with the approved, non-taboo roms??

Also to add that the latter (aka CM7) has many issues with apps and keeps going into silent mode when tapping keyboard.
Wow seriously. Your former "taboo" rom isn't compatible with chrome. This phone isn't compatible with chrome.
I've told you like 10 times now. Clearly it's you who can't read.
I'm sure thus version of chrome is a fake/ clone (2.6.6). However, even this imitation wont run with CM7. Looks, feels and tastes like chrome so I'm hsppy withvit.

You obviously meant too retarded didn’t you boy.
I had a feeling English wasn’t your strongest subject in kindergarten.
To the issue: Ahm, NO, IT DOESN’T WORK WITH STOCK OR CRYING SHAME 7. As stated, you just get the not compatible etc.
On top of these blunders you also keep changing your position. First it’s the phone, and then it’s the firmware........
Time for your nappy to be changed??
