Don't want to mention a taboo subject but..... - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I did mention it would be a clone of Gingerbread that pretends it's something else. I have it on my phone and it seems to perform quite well with no bugs. One of the difference between this taboo rom and CM7 is that the former runs Chrome while the latter returns the this is not compatible with the operating system blah blah blah..
Might not be significant to most but I love Chrome and can't help wondering why I can't run it with the approved, non-taboo roms??

Also to add that the latter (aka CM7) has many issues with apps and keeps going into silent mode when tapping keyboard.

Wow seriously. Your former "taboo" rom isn't compatible with chrome. This phone isn't compatible with chrome.
I've told you like 10 times now. Clearly it's you who can't read.

I'm sure thus version of chrome is a fake/ clone (2.6.6). However, even this imitation wont run with CM7. Looks, feels and tastes like chrome so I'm hsppy withvit.

You obviously meant too retarded didn’t you boy.
I had a feeling English wasn’t your strongest subject in kindergarten.
To the issue: Ahm, NO, IT DOESN’T WORK WITH STOCK OR CRYING SHAME 7. As stated, you just get the not compatible etc.
On top of these blunders you also keep changing your position. First it’s the phone, and then it’s the firmware........

iOS on HD2??

Ok, yes i know this question has been asked countless number of times, but is this possible??.
the reason why i would like to have this OS is for the apps and games.
If there is no one out there willing to do this port, thn pls give me a clue on how i could do so, i wouldn't mind spending some free time porting this OS i just need to know how to do it
And pls no clever comments about how this is a stupid question, and u dont want it blah blah blah

While it sounds like a good idea, I think you will have serious issues, with respect to the HD2's hardware vs. the iPhone. Since the OS is closed, and developed for specific hardware, runing it would take reverse enginering the existing drivers and creating all new ones from scratch. This is porbably the biggest hurdle you will face. Not to mention issues with addressing the memory, differances in chip archetecture, and licencing issues, I doubt this will ever come to fuition.
If you like the iOS so much, get a ipod touch to use with your phone (Over WiFi Teather- which is what I do) but I don't think this project will go anywhere

with enough resources, emulation may be possible, however, I think the overhead of runing an emulator, running an app, would cause teh apps to run very slowly. Most emulators for WM, emulate lesser powered processors (Gameboy, NES, Playstation, DOS, Mac (Old style system 7 Mac Classic),c64) However I think the iphone/ipad probably have a very simmilar chip in terms of speed, to the HD2. While the older hardware may have been inferior, it would still exceede the processing power of existing emulators. Also, you would have to emulate just about everything on a hardware level, which again will slow things down. So while theoretically possible, I will say this is also highly unlikely. I think you would have simmilar issues to porting, and even if solved by emulation, the result would be incredible slow apps.
Again, you can pick up a cheap used touch, and teather with WiFi, and do almost everything an iPhone can do, and much better than emulation could ever do. I will add, WiFi teather is available on the NRG Rom's for the HD2, and works quite well. Also if you are still stock ROM, you may want to flash/upgrade to a custom ROM like the one in my sig...

wht an ass -.-
hmm, an emulator would be nice, if only to shove it down an iDrones throat! The number of 'apps' (what happened to calling them 'programs'?) is the only thing they have over us, even if 90%+ are junk.
I've read in several places that upto the 3GS, the processor was about 660 MHz, way slower than the HD2
I've not heard what the iClone4 A4 processor speed is yet.
Interesting idea re the iPod touch, but I don't want to carry a second device & the screen is too small! ;-)
As has been said in every other iOS on the HD2 thread, the kernel is where porting happens, and it IS open source. Also porting the mach kernel has been done before, as both iOS and Mac OS run off it. So yes iOS can be ported to other platforms like the HD2, but apple's legal team would be all over it before anyone got started. The only way not to get sued if it were to happen would be to not distribute the port, the most that could be done would be posting up detailed instructions. But it defeats the purpose if you can't distribute it from the devs to the end user.
LMAO
Who would like to put iOs on such a great smartphone ? I mean a real smartphone ?
Anyway thank you that was funny to read !

Both are really good, synergy is going through a nightly process that's pretty fun to follow. They both have pretty good kernels and neither appears to have battery drain. If you're using an extended like I am you can expect about 36 hours with normal use, similar to froyo. If you're using the standard battery have a charger nearby The two roms aren't all that different, VIRUS and the BAMF team are both extremely talented. Flash them both, and take them for a test run. You'll likely ge 50 different opinions anyway
I suggest you download both and try them yourself.

The community reaches out with suggestions, but you are the user and naturally, have different preferences. Being a **** about people telling you to try each yourself is not going to get you personal opinions about the roms.
My advice for you? Flash the ****ing roms yourself and quit asking stupid questions.

edit: from my personal experience, I've been able to supercharge my battery by wrapping my phone in aluminum foil and putting it in the microwave for 2 minutes. I get about 10 more hours of battery life than a standard charge, but YMMV.

I don't know why I am going to respond to someone who obviously has an IQ of less than 40 or is less than 15 years old, but here goes...
Hi douchebag, i'm giving the OP good advice and telling him he should try each rom to see which one HE likes best. No 2 phones are the same, meaning what works great for one person, might not work great for him. Therefore he should try them both for a couple days to see which one works best for him, and gives him the features he wants, not what other people tell him he should have. No where does he ask which one is better, but he wants better battery life, which won't be so much the function of the rom, but the kernel he chooses, uses 3g/4g, how much he uses the phone, how many calls are made, etc. So with him using the phone differently form everyone else (as we all do), telling him what works best for me, may not work best for him (is this finally getting through to you?)
Your analogy was pointless, are you going to get a car just cause someone says to get it, or are you going to test drive it to see if you really like it?

Do yourself a favor and go lay on the railroad tracks.
....ANYway,
nmtuna, i would go with bamf 3.0 all day right now. i love their toolkit and for some reason I've been having trouble using nerozehl's dream kernel with Synergy (the dream kernels give me the best battery life). in terms of speed too i feel like bamf wins again. everything runs smoother than synergy's, though synergy may have the slight upper hand in terms of looks (clear drop down, 5 column app drawer, and among other relatively trivial things), but that can be easily fixed.

As far as the choice between the two listed above, and since you take offense to people suggesting you try both, I will just say <flips coin> Das BAMF Seose 3.0.

I see it not so much as a competition, but more as something that would compliment my phone. Primarily android, with webos on the side.
But I agree that it would be cool to try it nonetheless.
I would probably flash it out of curiosity but ultimately ill no doubt always stick with Android unless they do the unthinkable and become "closed" like IOS but i cant see that ever happening.
of course I want it in my phone. Also, could the devs port the code to android to make it faster/better/whatever?

If it was me, yes I definitely would! Like with the HD2, I tried WM 6.5, WP7 and Android, but ultimately had to go back to Android.
= What are you even doing asking whether or not you should root your phone on XDA?! =
What we have here is HP finding a cheap way to support it's WebOS devices.
I'd sure as hell try it out. The UI is fantastic and would probably fly on the SGS2. Probably would have to steal some drivers from Android but since they're both linux-based it shouldn't be too difficult.
Although I'm guessing most of the devs are involved with ics at the moment...

Hey Skellyyy, just out of curiosity, what made you stick with Android over WP7? I have not had any WP7 device yet, but it looks attracting.
I would LOVE this...i got a Pre on day one and loved WebOS...i would have stayed, but lack of solid hardware and an extremely small dev crew to get things going. if we could even get a WebOS launcher on top of android, that would be amazing!
i truly hope they get this going on our SGSII's.....i'd pay good cash for this!!

WebOS all the way!
For those who haven't tried it, here are some hints:
-butter smooth (when fresh)
-TRUE and exceptional multitasking
-great UI
The thing with HP is that they bought Palm for a hefty sum but never had any idea how to make it better. For now, they only got two WebOS devices that can not be called ancient: Pre3 and Veer- both fabulous phones ( Veer is quire popular among ladies, even @ Google HQ ). This is the bottle neck for their market. If they will get it running on other devices it will surely change the game more than WP7 did.
HP will nail it if they choose to go open source and get some devs involved, though this OS is maybe the best so far, it's still full of bugs and flaws, looks like a beta release.
... Another one. Is open sourcing now the dumping ground for dead projects?
came back from a party some minutes ago and read that webos is now open sorce on pocketnow.
it would really be great to be able to dualboot webos and android on the s2. hope somebody will do this and bring us this great os.

Hi, I don't really know tbh, android just felt like my home that I couldn't leave. Although I really want a WP7 device to give it another try. I feel like it could be good for me, everything I basically need and it just works. Without any distractions. Social integration is a major plus now too, I never really went on social networks when I tried it out, might get another cheap HD2 and have fun with it.

Wow it would be really nice to have ios running on my SII. i love android, but showing the fanboys that our device can do both. It's priceless. keep up the good work
im interested in this project mostly because would be nice to test performance on the s2 but then you would run into issues like their retina display, apple would never allow it since there platform is copyright, but luckily this guy is named Anonymous
heres a pic from his blog

It would be intresting to see how this would work and i think the galaxy s2 is the perfect phone to test on, but i cant see how he going to get over the legal issues.

If he could create a script or program that could take an IPSW (Firmware file) and make it "android ready" for lack of a better term, he would be completely safe. As the user would be downloading the IPSW and supplying it not him. Also the IPSW are available freely on Apple's site so they couldn't come after the users at that point at all. He just has to find a way to do that (not going to be easy).
Also iOS source is available on apple's dev site for anyone to look at it. It's just mostly copywrited (besides the BSD portions). I'm not sure if all of it's there but I have looked at some of it in the past for hints to exploits for jailbreaking.

Well he has been quiet for a while, so maybe that is what he is working on, i am no dev so wouldent have any idea of how long a process like that would take.

I have some development background, and from my knowledge of iOS and ARM Devices this would be quite a task if this is what he is doing.
I really want to believe this is real but I just found a link from github by someone called Peter42 who freshly uploaded a "BootDroid" code.
Last update to his blog dated 24 March is the same date the files were uploaded.
I have a Motorola Xoom and believe I can't test them.
Could anyone (for God's sake!) confirm whether they were real or not?
If possible, I already downloaded the files and would upload them for you in case original was removed.
this should be awesome, running ios in the powerfull SII... just for shutup the izombies xP
Even better, the upcoming Galaxy SIII!
But for real, can anyone try that?
I just ran the installation process on my Motorola Xoom and didn't notice any difference like a new app nor by or through restarting.
I'm kinda hyped up on this and would love to brag about how Android is superior to iOS if it was true
I heard about this and i think the guy plans to do it by vnc so just displaying the iPhone screen over internet

I don't really know if this was the link to the program or not though it's called the same.
But as I said before, these files were uploaded the day he last updated his post.
You can download it from there.
I don't really know how this should work since it doesn't even have iOS firmware files but I figured someone with a supported device could try and see for himself.
Nothing appeared on my Xoom at all which is not supported!
And, you can uninstall it from the same installation wizard.
Hi everybody !
Sorry for my english, I'm french.
I am really interested on this application, so I wonder if somebody has already succed in make it working ?
I' ve downloaded the Zip package on the website shared on the link below, but I don't understand how to instal it...
I think that even if it's possible to run iOs and Adroid on a Iphone, it woould be difficult to do the same on a androphone beacause iOs in not an open source system ...
Can somebody help me please ?
Thanks to you guys

Official Ubuntu on prime

http://www.jonobacon.org/2012/10/26/ubuntu-core-on-the-nexus-7/
Looks like we might have a good chance at a good stable build of ubuntu.Since the nexus 7 shares almost all the main components with our prime.

Fingers crossed !!
Lilstevie has been working on a version but its very very secretive and i'm not sure he has much time to do it now.
sounds good. can't wait to have it :fingers-crossed:
that would be great to have Ubuntu running naively on the prime!!
I can't wait. Running with chroot and vnc is not the same and it gets sluggish

you are confusing secretive with lacking in time. Some things don't get shared, because otherwise everyone bugs me about it, and the little time I do have for things ends up being eaten up by those people. Other things don't get shared because they are simply tests that may or may not even pan out.

Naa i appreciate your busy matey, i know your at uni and doing other things its just whenever anyone asks about the Ubuntu project its usually met with silence.
I honestly think you should start your own thread about your project and update whenever you have the time etc ... i know there are some members that just want want want, but theres plenty that would support your work and be greatful that your just trying your best ... hey no one else can do it !
My comment wasnt ment to be a flame, i'm patiently waiting myself for anything you can come up with, its just sometimes i'd love to know how far your getting etc
tbh i've been desperate to get ubuntu on this thing since i bought it... now i've bought a new laptop, i barely use it anymore.

I didn't interpret what you said as a flame, I was just "going on record" so to speak The development cycle is rather unique due to the device specificities so I have been avoiding creating a new thread so I can keep focused on that. I will be creating a thread soon(tm) for a preview build though (no eta).

This shouldn't be too hard I hope. Considering the prime and n7 share almost everything. The rear cam/keyboard and microsd might be issues. But the kernel may just pickup the cam/microsd.

no, they are not similar devices, they share a cpu/gpu combo, that is pretty much the end of it.
One question it always bug me. When canonical first started to talk about their project some people mention it would be like an app you download out of the market. But if a new kernel is needed, that's not possible, right? The pad would even need to be unlocked.

Most likely yes. Most users looking for Ubuntu are probably unlocked considering that usually flashing anything besides an update requires unlocking.

Canonical said no such thing, ubuntu-on-android is something entirely different to this, it works much like splashtop does on the atrix. They also never said that end users would be able to access it from the play store, it requires being integrated by OEMs.

I wasn't clear, what I meant is that after canonical's anoncement I heard rumors from random people talking about that. And that always bugged me cuz I couldn't figure out how would they pull that off. But what u said makes more sense.
