[Q] reverting rooted vibrant to stock - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a samsung vibrant flashed with axura 2.0 rom but have encountered some problems with the phone. How can I flash back to the stock image without odin? Is their a rom that can do that?

Pretty sure Odin is the only way....
Well thinking about it, flash a 2.1rom then flash a the stock JFD, then JI6 if you had to go that way? But why avoid ODIN?

Don't mean to try and revive a dead thread, but none of the guides to use ODIN have made sense to me, they all seem really complicated. I want to go from Axura to stock rooted elcair. I'd then use TiBU to restore my apps and Launcher pro settings and what not. But I just haven't been able to figure out ODIN.

Its simple once you do it 1 time.
You need ODIN, JFD.tar file, 512.pit file, and JI6.tar file
I open ODIN on my PC
Power off my phone
I plug the USB into the PC and the other end into the phone
Hold down the Volume Buttons + Power Button
Let the charging icon flash 2 times and let go of the power button
Should be in Download Mode now and ODIN should have a yellow COM box in it
Click on the PIT button and browse to the 512.pit file hit open
Click on the PDA button and browse to the JFD.tar file hit open
Hit START
Thats it

I yank the battery, plug in the USB, hold down both volume buttons and put the battery back in.
Now, you're in download mode.
You can also open a terminal on the phone and type:
su {ENTER}
reboot download {ENTER}
Load up Odin on the PC, set the PIT file and choose your stock ROM in the PDA section, click START and you're good to go.
Takes less than 5 minutes start to finish & really doesn't get any easier.
There are youtube videos if we're not making it clear just how easy this is.

There used to be a jfd flashable but I think it's down now..
If someone finds it please let me know also.

Re: JFD tar file -- This thread is working for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475

Since link in this thread aren't working for me, let me repost the links I found.
512 PIT file
T-Mobile Vibrant JFD Image
USB Drivers from the Samsung Galaxy S – 32 Bit Windows Download \ 64 Bit Windows Download

That may have to do with this thread being from December 2010, but thank you for reviving it. Nothing helps people find answers more than filling the front page with dead threads filled with dead links.

First, download http://www.multiupload.com/NMPX3KMWRS
This contains Odin, the Samsung Drivers, stock odin rom, updated odin rom, pit file.
If you don't want to lose your settings, etc. you can skip to the second part. If your phone still doesn't work than start from the top.
-PART 1-
Step 1.) Make sure you have the appropriate drivers installed for your phone. If you are on 64bit then choose 64, if you are on 32 choose 32. You may already have the drivers installed and it will tell you after you try to install them.
Step 2.) Power your phone off
Step 3.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 4.) Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Step 5.) To ensure your phone is back to stock, in odin you will want to check the repartition button. ONLY CHECK IT WHEN YOU ARE FLASHING BACK TO STOCK. Leave the other check boxes the way they are.
Step 6.) Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Step 7.) Click the PDA button and select Original.tar and then click Start
It should go through a bunch of steps and then your phone will reboot. Below are the steps to update it to the latest release.
Close Odin and power your phone off.
-PART 2-
Step 1.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 2.) Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Step 3.) Leave all check boxes the way they are. Do NOT check the repartition box.
Step 4.) Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Step 5.) Click the PDA button and select T959UVJI6.tar and then click Start
It will go through a bunch of steps and then your phone will reboot. Congrats, you are on the latest update!

Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S Odin3 Problem

ok, apparently i need this broken down to me. i got to the download screen on my phone. i downloaded the recommended files, when i ran Odin3 as administrator, i checked the PDA box, and clicked on the PIT button to get to the PIT file..
the problem i'm having is figuring out exactly what file, and where exactly is located for the PDA box.
if i remember correctly, i'm doing everything right. the only problem is figuring out which file is the PDA file?
help?
[NOTE: i understand people have posted about bricked phones and whatnot. but i really did try looking for a solution to this, and fell short. help will be appreciated, and i will be standing by for an answer. i'm off work now, and i NEED my phone to work again. lol]
now i have a new problem. there's a cell phone, computer, and a nasty little triangle with an explanation mark in the middle.
man, i need some help. seriously.
great, just when i thought things could not possibly get any worse...
i used Odin3.. again. this time i only selected the PIT file and nothing else. everything went fine, it even said that my phone reset correctly.
now it's a black screen, and it won't power on. at all. nothing, no power.
man, someone please help me.
[EDIT: K, i placed my phone on the charger, still a black screen, but there's a real faint light surrounding it. so it DOES get power, it's just a black screen. any ideas anyone?]
That seems pretty nasty. The PDA box is where your tarred ROM goes. The only ROMs I know of like this are stock ones, not the kinds you find in the forums normally. Once you track down one of those, try Odining again. To get into download mode, try unplugging it, taking the battery out, plugging it into a computer via USB, and holding down both volume buttons while putting the battery in. That always seems to work for me. Put the pit and PDA files in their respective spots in Odin and flash away. It has always worked for me.

not working.
this sucks...
Your phone is NOT dead. Here is what you do..
1. remove battery,SIM, and external SD card from phone.
2. connect USB cord to PC...NOT to phone...Yet.
3.Now make sure you have Odin up and running
---PIT file goes in "PIT"
---MODEM Files (modem.bin) go in "Phone"
---Packaged ROM files (T959JI6.TAR, or T959JI6.tar.md5, for example) Go into the PDA Box
---DO NOT EVER check the re-partition box unless directed by a TRUSTED SENIOR forum member..So, since it's ME DON'T check it!
4.NOW Hold Vol up/Down on your phone.. DO NOT hold the power button.
5. Continue to hold vol up/down, plug in the USB cord to your phone.
6. Insert the battery into your phone.
7. If done correctly , you should now be in download mode. ODIN should show a "COM" port, and say "Added" in the status box. If it doesnt, start over from step 4. Good Luck!

I'm doing the same steps, however I'm getting a 'wipe error' when the phone starts up in recovery mode. Anyone else had this problem?

this is a nice tutorial on odin, for future reference.
Odin is a finicky beast. Sometimes you can do everything the same way several times but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
ok so i used odin to flash my vibrant to stock and when it get to factory the screen goes to a brown or a greenish screen anyone know how to fix this it would help out a lot its been driving me nuts i have been online looking for like seven hrs.
thanks alot

How to disable voodoo and ODIN back to stock?

Searching was a mess of incoherent threads (or maybe I don't know how to search correctly).
I am on Bionix V and with voodoo lagfix from Nero V5. I want to Odin back to stock and apply the 2.2 update. I am giving my phone to my dad and he wants it stock as a rock.
I disabled the lagfix via CWM and let it do its thing. When it booted back up, the file structure was different (obviously) and all of my files were "gone"...which I didn't care about since I already backed everything up.
The problem is my PC would NOT see the Vibrant via ADB. In fact, I couldn't even get it to show up as a removable drive. I re-enabled Voodoo, file structure came back, and bam, my PC recognizes it as usual.
What am I doing wrong?
Well if your gonna go back to stock the disable voodoo in cwm , reboot and let it convert back to rfs and boot up. Hold your power button to get the Power options screen and go to Download Mode. Open ODIN, plug your phone into your pc and add the 512.pit to PIT and your .tar flash file to PDA, makes sure repartition is not check and you have a yellow COM port showing and hit Start.

So manually placing it in download mode is the missing link?
I always did
adb reboot download
to put in download mode before.

[Q] Samgung vibrant stuck on boot screen

it is stuck on boot screen the logos just keep flashing but nothing happens. i cant go to recovery mode or download mode it wont work. i just put ginger clone rom and it messed my phone up plz help THANKS VERY MUCH
Odin back to stock . Pull the battery hold both vol buttons then plug in micro usb to get to Download mode . And most likely user error is what messed up your phone . Tons of people flashed Eugenes GingerClone no problem including myself so its not the rom .
Yes, follow the 1st post pull battery hold vol up/down and then plug in the usb into the phone.
It may have been you did not disable the voodoo lagfix before trying to flash
This procedure will get you back to stock and then you can go from there:
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Load the JFD rom for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
15. Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
Doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box

[Q] I may have bricked my phone

My phone is stuck at the SAMSUNG boot screen part, it displayed the boot sound but that was it.
I downloaded the wrong phone version of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892297
I can't get back into my phone, is there anyway to restore what I had.
I made a titanium backup and a nandroid backup aswell.
I've made relatively stupid mistake like you. (Not that we are stupid, but Newbie @ this whole phone stuff).
The best way to unbrick the bricked phone is by reinstalling the rom, which will wipe out the data on your phone (but better than having bricked phone eh?)
This step only applies if your phone is "ROOTED"
Follow the instruction in this post
"http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948679"
If you do exactly what is says you will have your phone back!
If you could, go over this in plain english for me.
I am in download mode but this dosen't make any sence
"and flash modem via Odin. Use pda button"
Ok now I went in the recovery mode and reset factory settings.
was that a bad idea?

You need to download the odin file onto your computer, then get your phone in download mode and open up odin on your computer. Next use pda button to flash the modem file that you downloaded. Sorry, can't give you links as I am not at my computer.

Would doing a factory reset on the phone (via the button method) void any chance of flashing the TW rom?
You are probably still going to have to use ODIN to get your phone back.
Download the 3 files from the link in post #2
Open ODIN on your computer. Pull out battery from phone, hold DOWN VOL and plug phone into USB. Once ODIN recognizes your phone, click PDA and select the modem file and click start.
Once finished, put battery back in, hold UP VOL, DOWN VOL, and power to get into CWR. Select install zip from SDcard, choose zip, scroll down to the correct file and hit the power button to install the ROM.
Do step 2 for the CW package and reboot.
That should get you going.

I kniw s/he said it but to clarify on this part make sure you use the PDA button. This is very important. It's very easy to mess that part up if you are still new.

Now I'm having a problem with Odin, it's stuck at the stage that says
<1> setup connection...
it sits here for some time, is there anything I'm doing wrong that would cause this?
Ok guys I fixed it.
For future people reading this thread.
I used Odin v1.3 and the D101.package3.tar.md5 files.
Congratz on your fix. I'm sorry I didnt state how to Unbrick ur phone clearly. I was In hurry .
This method applies to all of the BRICKED phone. Take it from someone who bricked twice and soft brick.
