[Q] Favorite ROM's ? What do you like best? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What do you think is the best ROM out today? What do you like about them, and what would you change?

I like the look and feel of stock Android. I also like to be able to tweak lots of setting, so naturally, CyanogenMod is my favorite.
CM can look exactly like stock, barebones Android, but has so many customizations it's awesome. For instance, I think the auto-brightness for the screen is too bright when I'm in a dark room. CM lets me tweak it to make the screen darker or lighter for any ambient light scenario. Just little things like that.
But since this is in the Vibrant section and the Vibrant doesn't have CM yet, I'm sure you'd like to know what is on my Vibrant. I'm running Eugene's Vibrant Hybrid since it has much of the feel of vanilla Android, but with many of Eugene's tweaks. But it's still not perfect. I have a custom boot animation, and am running Voodoo just for good measure. I like it a lot

[Q] BLUR stuff for XT720

Hello,
I have a few questions and I really need your help
I am in love with all Motorola phones with BLUR, like the DEFY, Milestone 2, Droid X...
And I searched like crazy for a Blur-like launcher. I found HElauncher which is a new launcher in the market and it is amazing (you can select the dock style you want)...
But it doen't feel the same and landscape mode doesn't work
But what I really like of BLUR is the widgets and toggle widgets from it. My question is...
Is there any way to port the BLUR launcher and widgets? Is there any launcher or widgets that look like Blur?
That's the only thing I don't like of this phone. Its launcher is not good at all and there are no cool widgets like in Blur. The korean froyo has some pretty calendar and contact widgets which are scrollable, but I would really love blur.
Please help me
Thanks in advance...

I NEED blur, please
that's probably because people might have no access to it yet, or according to people that have moto phones with build in Blur it runs really really slow, and they want to get rid of it to use stock Android
Dexter told me he could do it when he gets the phone
He has done an AMAZING Blur rom for the Milestone, which works almost 100% good.

Indeed. Well actually, Blur runs great on phone with good memory, but with approx 80 MB RAM on the XT720, it would be really slow. Unless the rom would be downsized like for example Cynanogen or Oxygen, but that would require a custom kernel and that is not possible atm.
blur for the xt720
I am 99% sure if you go to the developement section there is a patch to install blur on the xt720, developed by dexter.
I havent tried it but I have heard that it makes the phone slow and kills the battery

That's not true. The phone isn't slow and battery life isn't worse then on normal 2.2.1 and 2.1 on the XT720
In fact, it makes some things faster... 2.2.1 gives you JIT = massive speedup on stuff. Just look at quadrant 2.1 versus 2.2.1 XT720.
You idle at higher RAM usage with 2.2.1 though.
this question is useless now that we got a blur rom, lol.
But sadly I may be selling the phone to buy a DEFY :/

[Q] Crysis SensatioN ROM or CyanogenMod 7 or MIUI?

Now that CM7 is stable, what do you prefer to use between these roms?
I'm using Crysis' work because of its fantastic looks, but everyone is cheering for the CM.
Whats the pros and the cons for each rom? And for the MIUI, whats so special about it?
I'm not negative towards any rom and respect each developer but trying to see the difference more clearly.

i tested both 3 rom and i prefer miui.
crysis's sensation : good looking touchwiz rom .. but that's all
cm7 : pure google experience with performance. now stable , with more customization. have many themes out there to be flash.
miui : for me , this is the best rom if you find a "good-looking" rom. it have many theme to be download , customize (with your own style) , lock screen , and it's stable too. miui is easier to download theme because no need to be flash , just download and change .. it also have various lockscreens , you named it.
i suggest you test all the rom , your own experience is better than my suggestion.
You're comparing 3 totally different roms, and i do mean totally different.
I haven't tried the sensation rom but just looking at its thread it looks extremely good for a samsung rom, cm7 on the other hand is pretty plain looking but can be polished up, while miui on the other hands puts every rom to shame in the looks department... however its the slowest of all the roms.
And im not talking about in benchmarks, im talking about responsiveness especially when launching apps. I've been using miui for months now and simply hate that its so laggy when launching apps. Sometimes i have to wait 1 second after i tap it for it to actually start, i've gotten tired of the lag so i switched to cm7... every app launches instantly no matter what.
You really have to try them all because they're all so different, just do a cwm backup incase you don't like the rom so you can switch back with no fuss.

Totally agree and just one point from me.Take care of the kernel you are using when flashing between those roms.I think siyah is compatible with the 3 of them

So for one who isn't interested in optimizing and adding stuff all the time, which one is more stable or easy to go at?
And how about battery life, which has the longest?

Cleanest, Least 'custom modified' current stock ROM??

Does anyone have any recommendations on a ROM that is running off of current stock with the following:?
* everything works. Just as good as stock unrooted
* behind the scenes mods ok, if performance is increased.
* no themed stuff! No disrespect, but I don't like the current themed ROMs
Also, read that CM's camera takes lower quality pics than a Sense ROM does, as well as issues with call quality. Confirm or deny?
Lightly modded, Sense 5 icons, APM, goodies - Stock with Goodies
Lightly Modded but still looks fantastic and performs well - PuRE LaTtE
Stock... Exactly what you asked for - The RUU
I am not sure what you are really looking for... Looks like a good old RUU will get you exactly what you want.
I know I sound confusing...
really what I would like to run is close to stock, can be modded to run smoother or for 'longer battery life' etc. I'm running the sense 5 port and in all honesty I am not 100% sure I like it. I want to go back to what I am used to... but I also really like CM but read from other users that the pictures taken on non-sense roms aren't as high quality as if they were taken on a sense rom. High quality photos are important to me, so that's basically where I'm at with that.

[Q] Stock Touchwiz vs Rom (CM, MIUI)

I was wondering about the pros and cons of each. For example, right now I'm running MIUI, and it has the best experience of any rom I've used (I've been using MIUI since GB on my N1 - only recently upgraded to the GSIII). But, I really like the way Milk Music looks, and I can only get that particular app if I'm running a near-stock touchwiz based rom.
I was wondering if there was a way to get the best of both worlds? Or if I should stay away from stock entirely, or if there are any other benefits I'm missing!
Hello !
I believe this is one of the hardest question to reply ever "stock or aosp/aokp/miui".
For me, everything depends on what you want to do with your phone. Exellent battery life would be stock rom, but more smoothness would be cm, for exemple.

It's mostly about appearance and functionality for me. I'm pretty good on battery life, and have a battery backup if needed. I love how clean MIUI looks. It's always looked obsessively clean, and I love it for that. It also lets me arrange my status bar into the iOS style (I like the battery on one side, signal on the other - clock in the middle).
MIUI with Aviate as my launcher seems to work wonders, and MIUI has a lot of great features - built in data monitor, app and trash cleaners, just a lot of great things to keep the phone running smooth.
But I want the samsung support as well. I like a lot of the touchwiz stuff (minus the actual launcher), and I enjoy having my data backed up with them (MIUI backs up my data, but not all of it, really). And I am absurdly interested in the Milk Music app. But when you look at stock/near-stock touchwiz based roms that have the samsung support and the camera app, and the like, you're stuck with the stock UI as well. Which is nice, mind you - leaps and bounds better than it was in previous versions, but still leaps and bounds behind the work that MIUI has done to give it the smooth feel I've come to expect.
If only there was a way to get the Samsung Framework on MIUI, I think all my problems would be solved.
I never tried MIUI, because I don't really fancy the iOS style..
I think, the perfect rom would be a mix of CM, stock rom, and maybe MIUI too, but I believe that's impossible to make.. :/
Stock:
Pros:Usually completely stable,Full warranty,Apps is usually better designed/has more features,Can use official updates easily,More Secure(Without root of course)Usually looks better(my opinion)
Cons:
(may be a bit slow)
Inefficient
Unrooted
Bootloader may be locked
High ram usage
Custom
Pros:
Usually faster than stock
Usually pre-rooted
More efficient
Usually quicker update timeframe
Less space is used
Easier to install certain apps
Cons:
Loss of warranty
Unstable
Errors
Insecure(rooted)
Apps are more plain (less features/looks)

[Q] Recommended ROM?

I haven't been keeping up to date with all the roms/kernels out there for my S5 as I've been stock+root since I got the phone, but lately have been running into some flaky issues with staying connected and weird power drains, so it's about time to start fresh with a build that has all the latest patches applied to it in addition one with less bloat. TMobile has been pretty good about keeping the bloat down, but there's still some things that could go away.
So overall, what would you guys recommend for good battery life, stability, smoothness, and some cool customization options? I don't need to overclock or anything, those days are long gone as the phones are fast enough as-is, so overclocking or some advance kernel tweaking is not needed. CPU governors, battery options, etc are always welcome additions to any kernel though.
So what are your recommendations, and thanks in advance.
I'm in the same boat. Am setting up an S5 for a relative. There's no root for 5.1.1 yet, and 5.0 seems to be weak on battery vs. 4.4.2? Might simply be the reversion to a predominantly white theme vs. 4.4.2's black in TW. Also, the latest 4.4.2, NK2, doesn't seem well represented in custom ROMs. The Sickness has a 4.4.2 NH5 ROM, but that's one iteration behind NK2, and the theme-ing leaves a lot to be desired for those looking for a little more stock-ish appearance. Might end up using that until some 5.1.1 customs with root come along and try to find a way to re-theme it.
