This morning I was watching youtube and had the phone on wifi, router is in my room and the phone would still have issues trying to play vidoes? It acted as if the signal was weak. I guess I feel asleep and woke up the phone being hot? I tried to restart the phone since it froze up...took the battery out when the reset did not work and the phone did not want to start up...tried to plug it in no light...took everything out sim card, sd card and battery and let the phone set for a little bit...turned on after 20 minutes....now the phone has been doing that all day...I'm so annoyed with it...what do you think, it could be?
Mines doing the same thing this morning!!
I'm using the core cell rom.
Can't even get it to boot enough to reflash it..
I'm using the chucky rom now my color is off and ia greenish tint... going to have to do a phone exchange...
Hey there,
I have my Vibrant for a good year now since it came out pretty much. Last week it just stopped charging out the blue. The battery is completely empty and shows a thermometer with a warning sign and stops charging seconds after its plugged in. So I assumed it might be a battery malfunction and I got my spare battery in as soon as I came home and tried charging - same problem. I think it is highly unlikely that both batteries fail at the same time. Therefore, I assume there is something wrong with the temp sensor in the phone. I saw a few people have a similar problem with the epic 4G, but the discussion got really side tracked by other issues. My phone is rooted, but I was running stock froyo, so that shouldn't be the problem or should it?
I just wanna know if anybody had the same problems and if there is a quick solution, I google and forum searched a while but as soon as you throw in the term battery it gets spammed with battery life discussions.I just checked my files I have on the phone, apparently I have the premium insurance - does that mean I just can go to the next Tmo store and get a replacement? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Phill
Well for your problem, i suggest you try a different rom and see if the problem persists... maybe its a bug
And as for insurance, you mail the phone in and pay a deductible, which should be like 135$ or so. They send you a refurb.. or if you say it wus lost, you dont have to mail in phone

thanks for the quick reply. Is there a way to reflash without a battery?
I don't see it as a bad thing. If your phone gets too hot and keeps charging that's going to burn something inside. When my phone won't charge I know I have let it down. So it can cool down. But to fix your problem reboot the phone. You can keep charging it after it boots up

As long as your phone can run successfully for a couple minutes, i dont see why not

Mine did something similar. I picked it up after putting it on the charger. It was hot and would not come on. I unplugged it and let it cool off for a while and it cleared up.
I got that message once...
Vibrant was in a car dock, with power.
It was *HOT* out and sun was hitting the back of the unit. (A/C on of course)
Google Navigation was running (display brightness max)
Google Listen was running
Bluetooth was passing music to a speakerphone
When I run the phone with that setup, the charger can't even keep up with the phone power needs. The battery level slowly drops. No question the phone is working hard.
This was a true heat issue... I removed the charger and turned off the display to let it cool off a bit. (I was almost home).
So the question again, is your phone hot or is it a false reading?
Robert
Hey,
I am sorry I didn't clarify the actual battery temp. It is normal - so its neither in the sun or in a too cold spot when I try charging it. The phone probably runs for one for a few seconds before turning off so there is no chance of the battery stats wipe. I think I will try to find an external charger and try to charge the batteries this way to have enough juice for flashing a new rom. Thanks for all the replies!
Does it charge the battery with the phone off? If not, I don't think a new ROM will help.
Hey there! Wondering if you got around to solving this. I've got a Vibrant doing the same exact thing. Battery being cool it sais that is overheating. Did changing the ROM solved it or not?

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but a resolution never seemed to be made here. Has anybody found a fix to this?
As of yesterday, my wife is having the same issue with my old Vibrant phone which she now uses. It's flashed with Bionix V 1.3.1 and Tigerblood overclock to 1.2ghz. This could be the issue, the Tiger Blood overclock, but I'm not sure. I'm out of the country for three weeks and currently she's left with a dud of a phone that keeps giving her the temperature warning in the triangle when plugged in while the phone is powered off followed by it stop charging. When she turns it on, she gets to the SD card check and then the phone completely freezes. Once in a while it's able to stay on for a minute or so before freezing, but more often than not the phone does not fully turn on and just goes frozen after a few seconds, sometimes at the Tigerblood logon screen before making it to the desktop. Me being 4000 miles away doesn't make it easier to help her but I've recommended she leave the phone unplugged, battery out for the night to see what happens. I also told her to take off her silicon case thinking maybe that has something to do with the overheating. Well after 7 hours of her letting it sit to cool off like that, with the case off, she plugged it back in and is having the same issues as yesterday. Absolutely no progress made. One of her colleagues said she should try leaving the phone in rice confused:) so she's giving that a go and another guy in a phone shop who she went to for advice after work said that the motherboard might need replacing. I'm convinced all it needs is to have the Tigerblood removed or reflash a rom onto it but there's really no knowing unless I have it in my hand.
Is there any quick fix to this problem without having to do all that? Surely there must be a way to charge the phone without it heating up and freezing up. She's tried plugging it into different rooms, on her laptop, etc, none seem to get rid of the temperature problem. I've had the phone since August 2010 and never had any issues with it. I also never once saw that temperature error message so was taken aback when she showed me it over skype. I just upgraded to the S3 and gave her the phone 2 weeks ago, but surely it shouldn't just die out just like that? Thought the Vibrants were made tougher than that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks in advance
Its most probably a kernel issue or a bug in the rom; so the only way to find out is to flash another kernel/rom..
P.s Vibrants are rock solid

Will be looking into reflashing another kernel/rom when I get home in a few weeks time, but it must be noted that the phone has been showing no signs of life for the last few days now. After letting it sit out for 7 hours on the first night, battery out and everything, she went to plug it in the following morning and this time absolutely no notification came up. Not even a lighting up of the phone or anything. No signs of life at all. Every time she hit the power button nothing occurred. The phone still heats up and after a few minutes while plugged in and gets very hot to the touch again but no matter how many times she attempts to turn it on, nothing happens.. She's tried plugging it into her computer via usb, into electric sockets in other rooms, even in the bathroom in one of the 115 volt electric shaver outlets in the bathroom (we live in the UK currently), and none of these ideas worked. Still no signs of life. It has been this way for three days now and is frustrating as I can offer no advice to her to get the phone to turn on anymore.
What on earth can be the problem? Has this happened to anyone before? And is there a fix to this or can we consider the phone to be a paperweight at this point?

Some kernels require a certain amount of power to fully boot the phone up and will not charge until it has 5% battery or so. I personally think her battery may be unable to hold a charge or like I said before it doesn't have enough juice to boot the phone because of the kernel. There is a way to charge the battery with the phone off. You can use ANY kind of usb cord, I used an old printer usb cable when I had to do this. All you do is cut off the side that is not usb and strip the positive and negative wires(red and black), then place the stripped wires on the positive and negative connectors on the back of the phone and insert the battery (make sure it's a snug fit). Plug the usb end into your pc and charge the battery that way, DO NOT let charge for over 2 minutes at a time. Wait five minutes and do it again if you have to. If she gets it to boot up, I would definitely flash a new kernel first to see if thats how the problem originated.

I was charging my phone and it got kinda hot. i think it was because it was using wifi. My battery was low during the day and i didnt have access to internet. When I got home i started charging and I supposed dropbox started uploading the many pics I took yesterday to the server. Im guessing thats the reason it got hot.
I got it off when I noticed it was hot. and today when i woke up i tried to turn it on and it wouldnt turn on unless i take the battery out and put it back in.
everything seems to be working.
my question is hot much heat my phone can handle? and do you think the circuits got damaged? anything I can do to check?
Thanks.

most of electronic devices shut down at excessive heat.
do not worry
If you can touch it, it's not dangerous. If you're paranoid with the whole tolerance to heat thing, wet the tip of your finger and touch it. Old silicon trick, if it sizzles its dangerously hot (boiling) and should be disconnected from power immediately. They've got fuzes all over these newer phones though, it won't break itself by overheating.
Also, now that I think of it, if your phone is boiling, the plastic is probably gonna melt.

thanks for the replies. it wasnt like boiling hot.
it was more like when you buy hot coffee and you touche the cup. around the same temperature I would say
Once mine got upto 52°c while charging and talking.

are you serious? Celsius or fahrenheit? if it's celsius then how the f*** did u get it so high? i never got above 52°C even while OC'ing
adding to the phone not turning on question.
I turned my phone off when I noticed that it was hot and I left it plugged in usb port on laptop.
and as you know the next morning I couldn't the phone on unless I took the battery out (the battery meter was like 0 percent when I saw the phone really hot and turned it off)
this time it happened again, the not turning on part. I turned the phone off at 4% battery. went to charge using usb on my laptop. the battery charging animation came on and i let it be. a few minutes later I tired to turn the phone on and nothing happened. I took the battery out and put it back in and plugged it in the usb on my laptop. the charging animation came on and this time i was able to turn the phone on.
does usb on laptop not provide enough power to charge the phone when the battery is too low?
or was it my rom thats causing it? im currently using resurrection remix pre JB 3,01
There are billion fuses on failsafes on modern electronics, the phone will shut down way before any components can actually be damaged. Still, I hate it when my phone gets hot just from a user perspective. I find the Kernel & kernel governor plays the biggest role in how hot the phone gets. My phone is always pretty cool on Siyah but on CM9 for instance, it got really hot.
If you want to see the actual temperature instead of estimating, then you can type in *#0228# in the stock phone dialer (won't work on dialers from the market or on roms that are non-stock). It'll give all your phone stats in real time. Just a small tip.
Hi
i have this problem "my X10i restarts itself unexpectedly", regardless of the ROM or kernel installed from stock to costumed one.
it happens sometime when opening programs like titanium backup or ROM toolbox, and every time when playing games approximately after
5min like angry bird.
i think this problem is hardware related, and i need to know what part is causing it, and how it happened after 1 year from purchasing the phone?
and does the android system keep "log file" some were for such problems.
Thanks.

Is the phone plugged in and charging when this happens???
I used to get a lot of problems with gaming on x10, the device would become extremely hot and reboot, whereas removing charger allowing device to cool down for 5 minutes would stop it from rebooting
now i can play games no problem, but if i leave it plugged in charging for ages, the game will overheat the device even at 998mhz
its just the x10 is getting old lol
yes my phone heats, and its always unplugged when restarts itself, and i have tried to apply different freq for CPU and the problem persists.
Suggestion!!!!

flash a different rom and kernel if youre on unlocked bootloader, then try to calibrate the battery by going to recovery and wipe battery stats after completing a full charge.. press thanks if i helped you friend, its just an easy thing.. cheers.. :victory:
today finally i have figured out what was causing the problem witch is " if i boot my phone without a sim card or in flight mood" my phone do not restart it self no matter how unless i do it, so the problem was if i try to connect to a network and i have tried 2g and 3g and many operator my phone starts to restart.
so please any body suggest any solution.
is it the what is called "RADIOS" or "base-band" so can i change it. or are there versions so i can try
by the way mine says "2.1.71"

Well, I have this problems 1 year or so. Tryed everything, and nothing helps so I gave up. The problem appears, when your X10i temperature go up above 25 Celsius. I have tryed to use it in cold conditions. 6-25 celsius - phone working fine, without restarts, but when temperature goes up to 26 or so, it's starting to restart. I have no idea what to do with this crap phone, so I left it in my drawer. If u will success to fix it, let me know, and good luck.

That probably means overheat or overload. Overheat situation occur in Phones normally cut off itself when meets abnormal temp increase within short duration, in order to prevent CPU melting by itself. Other than that, overload will also happens when phone is running out of free RAM or enough working space, which burdens phone and might cause phone unable to carry out its activities. But x10 is normal to happen likethat since its not so high tech hardware and RAM. So use it moderately. Hope these info helps

I can't use that phone moderately. Sometimes at startup it freezes and starting to restart itself. Sometimes when u're writing sms it restarts and etc. Tryed a lot of methods, but finally, happens the same things. In Airplane Mode I can use phone much more longer. If playing games - average 10 minutes without restart, but after that goes freeze and random restarts. So I guess it's motherboard or CPU issue. When I was using this phone in 1.6 or 2.1 it's worked for me perfect. But when the 2.3.3 update release and I updated my phone, it started to do that kind of restarts, reflashes to 1.6 or 2.1 doesn't help. Also tryed another battery, but... I don't have an idea what to do with this phone
So I've run into an bizarre problem today, one that I've never seen before.
My mum's S2 was having problems charging last night with the screen not showing the charge animation. So we decided to charge my S2's battery in my phone, then put it into her phone. It worked, but the battery was draining really quickly. I turned off the phone, decided to charge her battery in MY phone. Then I put her original battery back into her phone. But even though I haven't turned the phone on, it starts heating up within minutes! So anyway, I've tried plugging her phone into the charger again, but it seems like something is taking up the battery to quickly to charge it - even while the phone is completely off! I've even checked the processes running when the phone was on, but there seems to be nothing there causing the drain.
So anyway the next thing I'm going to try is a factory reset (this is currently running on the stock ROM), and then attempting the flash another ROM to see if that will work.
Also another thing to note - while i was backing up her phone, I had it plugged in to my computer and after leaving it for a bit to do some other stuff, I hear this high pitched beep coming from the phone saying something like "Battery temperature too high. Charging stopped." Really really strange.
Anyway, if anyone has run into this problem before or has any other ideas, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
