My vibrant cant turn on - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought this phone from someone in craigslist. He claim this phone never been turn on. But when I get home and try to turn it on, it wont. I don't know what to do. Please help!

You didnt try it before you bought it? Is it charged? You might be screwed

Does anything show up on the screen?
If you can get into download mode than you'll be fine.
Typos and other gibberish courtesy of Swype

He probably bricked it and couldn't figure out how to fix it and sold it to you. Or it was broken when he got it.
To try to get it into Download mode
1) Take out the battery and put it back in again after about 10 seconds (to give it time to empty all power in the phone)
2) Plug the USB cable into the computer (you need to get one if he didn't give it to you)
3) Hold down the Volume buttons
4) Plug in the USB cable into the phone
Your phone will start the download mode unless it is Hardware locked.

Hey Swehes. It still dead. What do you mean by Hardware locked? How I'm gonna solve that? Thanks.

Whoever sold it to you is a piece of ****. I hope something awful happebs to him or her. Sorry about what happened. This is why you always need to test stuff before you buy used! Cars, phones, etc.

Thank you for your advise. But I don't know who he is and where he live. Stupid me, I deleted his phone number. I will contact him soon via email.

If you can get it to boot to at least the Vibrant/Samsung screen, then you can recover it using Odin and adb.

so is it bricked. i think it is!
how would i repair it?
Try this
1) pull battery
2) put in battery
3) hold up and down volume buttons
4)while holding volume buttons plug in phone and then quickly press the home and menu buttons really fast

Does anything happen when you plug it to charger? Probably not, I think you've a brick between your hands. A JIG could well save it's Vibrant soul or be a wasted 10$.
Worth the risk IMO.

so i called samsung and its gonna get repaired for free. ive def learned my lesson
after following the steps mine gets to the Downloading screen but its just sitting on that screen. how long should i wait for something to happen? Im new to the vibrant, coming from a nexus.
If you can get into the Downloading screen, then just Odin back to stock and go from there
Read up on how to in the bible by S15274N it is in the general section
At least its getting repaired for free I had the same thing happened but somehow after, I left odin on with the phone connected over night the downloaf mode came on
I use swype so expect bad grammar and errors
To help clarify what happened to you and others that experienced this problem, you have a corrupt bootloader not allowing the phone to initialize it's hardware correctly and power on. I can however fix this with JTAG if needed. Just PM me if you have any questions. I'm glad you got a resolution though!

Im sorry for your loss I really am, if their was a smilee shedding a tear I would put it
If your computer REALLY just restarted by itself, it is not your fault, sometimes odin can hang up and crash (not responding) and kill your phone too.
Moment of silence for her (bows head down)
but seriously, I hope you have insurance. If you have insurance, everything will be ok
Just say it started getting hot, you went to bed, woke up the next morning, and it would not turn on.
Or warranty repair might do it.
I bricked my old HTC Hero when I made a mistake flashing the radio and I returned it to store and had it back repaired 2 weeks later . The repair report blames the mainboard and replaced it all free.
So good luck, and I know exactly how you feel

Dead vibrant, nothing on screen, no DMode! Help!!

Hi,
I'm going to keep it as short as I can, just bought a vibrant and rooted in a nice way, then I tried to use odin to update from 2.1 to 2.2, it did it but then the screen goes black and it doesn't shows anything and when i say anything I really mean it, no battery when I plug it, and no brick message. Then I discovered that I used the wrong image to try and update it the one for the i9000
note:
i tried to put it on download mode, but as i said before it doesn't do anything is literally dead it, i think I'm going out of options i got no idea what to do anymore, PLZ SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME HOPE!!!
Two options
1) Go to radio shack, spend a few bucks and build a custom USB jig that will get you into download mode. The thread is here somewhere in the forums, search for it.
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277056
UnBrickable Mod is awesome! It's easier to upload download mode with a click then to hold buttons.

I did one myself, and tested on a friend captivate, but my vibrant still the same NOTHING!, i mean wtf! the only thing it could have is a software/firmware problem but it seems he completely died on me!! :/
I had a bad cable once and had a odin flash go wrong..
Started out with download mode, but with no luck connecting to pc via 2 diff computers (not realizing it was the cable at the time) I kept messing around with it, sometimes connecting, then Odin screwing up again and eventually got to your point...nothing whatsoever, DEAD
After a while...called TMO and ordered a replacement...but didn't give up, I kept on with cable to phone, then pc...vice versa...battery in/out..and eventually out of nowhere it came back on..no idea how..one thing I do remember is reading to use vol up+down, but for me there was some weird combo where I think i started with up+down, then let go of up(kept holding down, or just used vol down)..can't quite remember...but don't give up..again mine was dead dead dead...somehow she came back...keep trying different things no JIG...
EDIT: Take your micro sd out of the phone and sim card too...that much i do remember...

Options:
1.you can call TMO for replacement.

3.Have you heard about the JTAG? It can resurrect your phone!

UnBrickable mod is way better than JTAG. You should check it out. JTAG works once. UnBrickable mod allows software based recovery always and works on a dead brick with no special tools once its applied.
There two videos on the portal now which mention it. I'd like to think people are using it.. after all, this mod doesn't just happen. It takes someone to put in the work to research it... ahem...
option 1
--------
1. remove the sim-card and the memory card
2. remove the battery
3. connect the USB cable to the computer and to the cellphone (still no battery).
4. press on both volume buttons (volume up+volume down)
5.while you press on the buttons enter the battery into the cellphone.
option 2
--------
1. connect the USB cable to the computer and to the cellphone
2. press on both volume buttons (volume up+volume down)
3. press and hold the power button
4. the screen will dim - keep pressing on the buttons (3 of them)
5. the screen will show up the cellphone-computer picture - keep pressing...
6. the screen will dimm again - keep pressing
7. the screen will show up with the vibrant logo
8. leave the buttons - now the cellphone should enter to download mode

Power the phone off completely. Pull the battery. Put the battery back in after about 30 seconds. Hold down both volume buttons while also plugging in the USB cable. Keep the vol buttons held down until you see the d/l screen come up. Let go of the buttons and then click vol up once to proceed to d/l mode.

Sorry I guess I missed that part. Thought it was stuck at the AT&T screen. Try leaving the battery out for a good ten minutes or so and then seeing if it responds by plugging in the charger.

Ok I will try that and after that I´ll let you know what happened thanks.
Nothing happened? any other solution?
What was the battery level like when the phone last turned on? If you can't get it to power up at all, there's only so much you can try. I'd try plugging it into a different outlet as well as maybe the computer and see if you can get any response from it.
When you have the battery in and press and hold power, do you see the softkeys briefly blink like they normally do when turning the phone on? It's possible that the battery is somehow the problem but I guess it could be the phone too. Would love some other input from other people cause I'm at a loss on what else to try.

It was at 30% I think the battery is discharged but I don´t know how to recharged.
When I press and hold power or vol up and down the softkeys don´t blink.
Yes I know I need more people to give solutions but thank you very much Kadin.
Well if you think it's fully discharged, leave it plugged into the wall for a while. It's possible that it dipped down below the point where it normally shuts off (around 5%) and may need a good long charge to get it back alive. I'd attempt that if you haven't already.

So - it got to the AT&T logo - tell us EXACTLY what you did after that.
It might help too if you explain what it was you did to the phone to try to get back to att stock.
Include the filenames used, and if you Odined, where you used them.
Just a thought,

There is a very good chance that if you charge the phone with wall charger
to be sure the battery is not dead and then use a JIG which will get it into
download mode you will be able to reflash the stock rom.
You can buy a JIG for less than $2 bucks including shipping on eBay.
Be sure that when you do get it into download mode to re-download
the stock rom just to be sure that the rom file is not corrupted.
Good luck!

The way you phrased your description above make it sound like you flashed a .7z file in Odin3. If you tried to do that, it wouldn't work, or course. The file you named, I777UCKH7 OCD No BL.7z contains an executable file that is an Odin one-click downloader. You have to extract the file from the 7 zip archive first, then run the file in windows, then connect your phone to the pc. Maybe that's what you did but your description is confusing?

Samsung Vibrant won't turn on

Hi all, I ordered a Samsung vibrant as is, and the only problem with it, is that the phone will not turn on. The description of the phone said that the bottom keys will turn on, but the phone it self will not when plugged in. Anybody know a method to fix this? Perhaps a certain firmware that can be flashed to it?

If the phone is still getting power then you may be able to fix it. You need to use odin to flash back to stock, here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 ( click the link in steps 2-4). Note, since you can't see anything on you're screen you will have to try multiple times to get into download mode. The link will tell you how to get into download mode and for reference you most likely will have froyo boot loaders instead of gingerbread. I would just attempt to put the phone in download mode with the button combos and then hook your phone up to your pc, with odin already open. If the yellow com light comes on in odin then you are good to go, flash away.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
The easiest way to get into download mod is to:
1 remove the battery
2 plug your usb cable into your phone and computer
3 while holding the vol up replace your battery.
Doing this should put you right into download mode.
Figured it out

AH HA GOOD SIR i had my phone bricked at 12 and spent three hours finding it.. talk about loosing sleep. anyway i stumbled on a solution to a vibrant that wont turn on... in the fullest dark if you hold down the power can you see the screen aluminate a little bit? if so thats great! now take your battery out and put it back in. hold volume up and the power key and if some red letters appear you have now fixed the phone. pull the batttery out again and put it in hold the vol up down and power to go into download - use odin and VAWALA unbricked the phone. hope this helped! if not send me an email at [email protected] about complements, complaints, or questions id be happy to help.
