Dualrom wifi tether problem - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ya I just recently downloaded dualrom, I noticed the first time that I flashed it there were a few extra settings to use, like wifi tether and USB tether. I noticed in dualrom 1.1 that the wifi tether gives me an error when trying to start it from settings. Is there any ideas how to fix this?

Wireless tether not working

Since I moved to MR1 wireless tether is not working. Tried the latest version still no luck. Has any one had this issue? If so were you able to get it to work?
Ok was able to get it working. Think it might of been the channel. After switching channels and enabling encryption everything worked fine.

you should download the barnacle wifi tether app. its free and you dont need to pay verizon to use there wifi tether service. theres also no download limit

Wireless Tether Beta2 works flawless on 3vo!!!!

New wifi tether 3 beta2 working perfect on EVO 3D now!!!!! With temp root obviously... Just released a few hours ago. Just thought I'd spread the love.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta2.apk&can=2&q= Download: WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-beta2 *** BETA ***
Hmm, I couldn't get it to work with temp root.
i had to set it to device profile thunderbolt to get beta2 working.
also have an odd issue with it..when after a reboot & reroot wifi tether doesnt work right away. even starting/stopping multiple times didnt fix it. it starts working later..either after using barnacle for a while or just time passing by. im not sure which one.
Yeah, I had the experimental version working once then never again. This is the same. Worked once but wouldn't load any webpage. Barnacle seems to be the most constant and best so far

faiyo was right
try setting profile to thunderbolt. start wifi tether. it will not connect. stop wifi tether then start/stop barnacle.
finally, start wifi tether n it should work.
Tried it twice...first time worked, lost root. 2nd time...did not work..lost root. Barnacle is dependable, works and no loss of su.
Ive only gotten barnacle to work. I cant get this version to work.
I don't understand why it isn't working for you all. It's working perfect for me. I installed it and using prema-temp root finished 100%. I don't change any of the settings in wireless tether and all is well. I updated the link to make sure you download the right one.
It's working for me. I installed it over beta1 and then wiped data. Tried it at first without changing any settings. The first time it took my laptop a very long time to connect and for a little bit it said limited connectivity, then suddenly it was working. Stopped tethering to change SSID and add encryption and it worked like normal the second time.

If you have to use Barnacle to "patch" Wifi Tether, why not just use Barnacle in the first place?
Mike
Its working perfect for me.
On first startup it said something about my kernel.. Hit ignore and I checked routing fix in settings.
Haven't had any problems

[Q] Free Tether For TB?

Is anyone currently using a free tether app for a Rooted TB?
This is what you want to use:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Download the latest. I have found this to be the best app for the job.
Roger that! I will give it a shot.
Seems to work great! I should only use this app alone and not the hotspot widget, right?
Yup thats all you need for tethering freedom
F...king Whoa!!! Makes rooting worth it.
Does this still work for anyone?
I was using both the built in portable hotspot in CM7 and occasionally the WiFi Tether app on my Thunderbolt and everything was fine until Verizon started blocking third party tethering apps *which apparently only affected Gingerbread users...

Since then when I tried to connect to the WiFi hotspot from my laptop it would just hang while connecting, it would eventually give an error -something along the lines of: "unable to obtain an IP address" and if it ever did connect it would say connected with no internet access. The only app that would work for me was Barnacle WiFi Tether, and I'm still using it with no problems, just wish there were more options, and I'm scared it will get blocked soon too. I'm loving LTE, and with an unlimited plan at $29 a month it's just begging to be shared with my laptop.

The built-in wifi hotspot in CM7 works fine so I haven't found the need to try the wifi tether app linked above lately. If you'd clicked the "wireless tether" tag in the article you linked you would have seen some suggestions and statements that it works fine.

The CM7 tether can be a little buggy and give out after a while. Android tether has always worked the best for me.
Verizon can't block tethering apps on your phone, they can only get Google to remove them from the market (which they have) - though there is still a couple like barnacle floating around in the market.

Only downside is that if you abuse it (maybe 30+GB month) you're at risk of getting your data transfer rate slowed down. But the next month as long as you didn't use a lot the previous month it'll go back up.
Thanks for the info !
Another option for USB tethering would be PDANet. I use that for tethering my Mac
installed wifi-tether 3 beta2 (latest from google) to my rooted Thunderbolt stock ROM
I start wifi tether, computer connects, but when I open the browser it never loads a page

Wifi tether issue

Sorry to start a new wifi tethering thread but I couldn’t find any information on the issue I am having. I have tried to use open garden wifi tether from the market and it seems to work but when I go to stop it I get a error saying “unable to stop is you device rooted”. At this point it will not stop transmitting and I have to reboot my phone to get it to stop. I am running TSM res 2.1 with GeeWiz kernel 2.4.2. Does anyone have this issue and is this normal? I’m not sure if it has something to do with the kernel and rom I am using. I would like to get the wifi thering working and would appreciate any help you guys could give me or any suggestions on using a different wifi tethering app. I was looking at the android wifi tethering app but I’m not sure which version I should be using for my phone. Thanks in advance for the help.
Give barnacle wifi tether a try. I have had good luck with that tethering app. Wireless tether is another you could give a go at

Need help with wifi tether

So I just got my dna. Ran moonshine, got s-off just fine. Rooted fine too and started using wifi tether with the settings posted. Worked fine... Then I installed viper rom. Using the same exact settings wifi tether started but no data would show transmitting and I couldn't connect to it on my computer. So I restored my backup of the stock rom and now tether doesn't work. I have tried a lot of settings, using the latest version from google. Any ideas?
Edit: whatever happened, seems now the wifi tether network was hidden even though I specified a name?? Otherwise I can connect now. No idea what happened.

pdanet is the best tether.
Going to give it a try. PDA net would work, then network speeds would slow to a snail's pace. I'll see if EasyTether is any better...
I think with PDA it works then slows down BC it cost
