Vodafone Rom upgrade. - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if they're going to release an official Vodafone ROM upgrade? I've contacted Vodafone and they sent me a text with a link for the orange ROM upgrade??? I was also told around mid-October that it would be released in a week??

are you sure they didnt send you to THIS page for all downloads, , , on which currently the top entry is the orange 3.14 rom? (and is also the page that any carrier 3.14 roms will appear)

Yes samsamuel, it was. I would have preferred it if they'd just said keep and eye on the hTc website, as that's what I've been doing for about 2 months anywez! Thanks for the reply m8. They sent me the following email:
Hello Paul,
Just to let you know that prior to releasing or approving any software update for our Vodafone customers who have bought a handset through Vodafone, we test it thoroughly to ensure it provides customers the best possible experience on our network.
Our testing process begins as soon as we receive the software, which often happens once the manufacturer has already released the open market version of the software.
During the review process, we report any issues with the software back to the manufacturer for them to address. Once the firmware is approved by Vodafone, we return it to the manufacturer and they will then distribute the software to customers through the appropriate channels.
We undertake this process with every device that we sell to customers, regardless of whether or not the handset contains Vodafone branded software.
If you have purchased the device from another company (Phones 4U, Carphone Warehouse etc) it is possible that the device may not be on the Vodafone version of software. In this case the manufacturer would be in control of releasing any future updates.
I trust the above information helps.
Kind regards,
Pravin Raut

Vodafone is so bloody annoying. I remeber it was released first on vodafone rather than orange, so how come orange got update before them. They had released ROM for HD mini, HD2 might be on the way....... no good vodafone !

I agree. I can't understand how orange got their update out before voda? Not only that, they then go and release a ROM upgrade for the hd mini? I just hope it comes out before year end?

Vodafone alerts do not work on new ROM

I wonder if anyone can help, or at least tell me if they have the same problem. My Tytn, which came with the original shipping ROM (1.18.255.3) has the issue with Vodafone voicemail etc of not giving any text message alerts, so I had to use the ringback service. So, I upgraded my vodafone account to the new Vodfone Mail (see www.vodafone.net), and all was solved- got the text messages, as well as the tape symbol.
However, I've now upgraded my ROM to the SA one (1.35.255.2), and all message alerts have now completely disappeared again. This is a bit of a disaster, but i really don't want to downgrade my ROM again if I can avoid it.
Anyone had the same problem in the UK? Any solutions? Pleeeaase??!
I'm having exactly the same problem as you. Before the upgrade, alerts via 242 worked perfectly. Now I get nothing. I've changed it back to 121 and still no alerts in any way shape or form.
Annoying, as this ROM upgrade was worth doing up until this.

I posted the upgrade from South Africa.
I am sure that the Service Provider plays a big role in the messaging displays. I am on the Vodacom network here which is 50% owned by Vodafone and this upgrade works perfectly here. I further believe that this upgrade was tweaked by HTC to match our requirements and solve the issues we had with the TyTN units on our local networks.
I do beleive that Vodacom is far bolder than Vodafone as I think we had HSDPA running here before the UK. The only problem here is the high costs of our mobile services. Vodacom in SA has about 20 million users.
I hope this give an insight on the problem as posted.
Good luck!
Thanks- helps us understand the thinking behind the new ROM upgrade. I only wish that HTC UK were not completely useless, then we migt have a localised ROM which works with Voda.
In the meantime, I've had to go back to "alert and deliver" which means the phone rings incessantly until you answer it to listen to messages. Otherwise the new ROM is great.
I even spoke to HTC UK to ask where to get the new ROM from. They said "our distributers", which is about as helpful as a chocolate fireguard as the only *big* seller of HTC branded products in the UK is expansys.... who told me to go to HTC. Oh the joys of using cutting-edge equipment!

Yes I must say we have a very on the ball distributor in Leaf Wireless. They have managed to fine tune the product to work correctly on our networks.
Good luck with Vodafone!

Finally got my HD2 fixed, but they've changed the ROM

Hey guys,
So my phone developed a strange white mark on the screen. Took it to get it fixed and finally a month later Vodafone returned a different handset to me with the latest Vodafone ROM on it as I expected.
Bottom line is I don't want the Vodafone ROM on it. Can I simply install the official HTC ROM onto the handset from their website? Is it that simple or will it totally mess up my handset?
Thanks.
Richard.
Ha, just discovered now that it is locked to Vodafone. Can I make an issue out of this with the idiots at Vodafone? HTC website won't let me download their ROMs. What can I do about this?
do a hspl and flash away.......
BIG ISSUE
If the phone you send in to repair was originally an unbranded device and they returned you a branded device. I would make a BIG (oh no a HUGE) issue out of it, they just can't do that. They have to replace it with a similar device, a branded Vodafone device isn't worth half on the second hand market because of SIM-lock.
But you cannot just install a HTC ROM, you'll have to use HSPL2 (1.66HSPL preferable) but HSPL2 can void your warranty, all tough it is reversible. With HSPL2 the Vodafone branded device will still be SIM-locked.
webpatrick this is exactly as I thought...so yesterday before looking at the posts on here I sent a very heated email to Vodafone telling them exactly as it is. This handset is worthless to me. And you are right about the branding. I bought a phone last year that was branded (I didn't know this when I got it) and I had loads of trouble trying to sell it on. I can mess with the ROMs all I want but the bottom line is that any new HTC ROMs would never install unless I HSPL2 it, so how could I sell it on to someone without telling them that it is branded? I can't.
Words cannot convey how fuming I am with Vodafone right now. It took them a month to get a working device back into my hands...and then it wasn't even my device or indeed a similarly set up device. Absolutely pathetic. This means I have to make more journeys to the Vodafone store, waste my time and money etc.
Thanks for your posts guys. I will let you know what develops. I should be recieving a reply to my email at some point soon.
Richard
Ok so I got this email back from them today. How do you think I should proceed?
"Hello Richard,
To reinstall the HTC ROM on your phone you can visit the nearest Vodafone stores.
Alternatively, you need to contact the HTC manufacturer if they can help you to reinstall the HTC ROM on your phone.
I trust this helps."
What should I do? Should I persue the issue or do one of the above?
Thanks
Richard
So basically....THEY DIDN'T READ MY EMAIL.
So it was originally branded, you probable had a bit of discount back then.
But the employee that sold it to you probable didn't know it was branded neither. Vodafone used to brand devices with a visible vodafone logo on the outside, and they didn't do that with the HD2.
I also was mislead by it a year ago, but since an vodafone upgrade is available, i don't bother anymore, cause I can install any ROM I like with HSPL2 (except new 3.14 ROMs), and revert with the official vodafone upgrade if needed.
So if you want an original HTC ROM, you have to use HSLP2 or for the latest HTC ROM a GoldCard, cause there's no HSPL for the new 3.14 ROMs (with SPL 3.03.0000 bootloader) (see Artemis Thread).
Turns out I have just installed custom roms. I figured that I might as well void the warranty. I will just revert to the stock if worse comes to worse.

[Q] O2 3.14 ROM - where is it?

Does anyone have any idea when the official 3.14 O2 ROM is being released? I contacted O2 UK yesterday, the customer services rep. told me that it was HTCs fault for not releasing the ROM, and that I should contact HTC to find out where it is. However, I suspect that when I do, they are going to blame O2 and get me to contact them! Oh don't you love the blame game........
Hallo!
I contacted support from O2 Germany about a week after HTC released the new ROM.They told me that they haven't any information wether it will be released or not.I looked at the download-site every day since that day but nothing happend.O2 is quite slow I think. They should bring out the new one.
Kind regards and a happy chistmas to all in this forum.

they said "fall"
Autumn?
Hi manishabanzadeh
I don't think Orange UK would have said "Fall", Autumn maybe but not fall.
In reality, Orange UK are quite often one of the slower operators to push any sort of software update, and I can remember as far back as the Nokia 6310i
Cheers
andrew-in-woking
I have to agree with andrew-in-woking, Orange UK were one of the very last to roll out Nodo, though Microsoft have been putting pressure on operators to release Mango very soon. The problem with Orange is that within the company everything is a 'need-to-know' basis. Most of the workers at Orange didn't even know that Nodo had been released until after the rollout. I've asked customer service and in store and either they have no idea what Mango is or they just can't get an answer from above on the release date. It's quite disappointing really, makes O2 start to shine a little more. Oh well, at least we got wp7 first
Orange UK being helpful... not:
@mattgarner Hi. I'm sorry but we don't have a release date at this time. As soon as we have an update, we'll let you know ^Jon

The update doesn't come from orange - it comes directly from microsoft
U can use the nodo forced update trick to force the update through - I've been running Mango since yesterday on my Orange branded HTC Mozart

[Q] UK Titan - no US region settings

Hey everyone, sorry if this has cropped up previously but I've searched to no avail and no one from Microsoft has an answer either.
I've got a new HTC Titan sitting here, completely unused. I won it at the Windows Phone Inner Circle event in Denver weeks before the device's US launch, but I still haven't switched over. This is because the device is a UK phone. The phone does not appear to have any US settings at all, is unlocked, and even comes with a UK plug instead of a US one. Presumably, this is because I won the device before the US version was ready for release.
The issue is that even when I switch my region settings over to "English (US)", nothing actually changes on the phone when it restarts...everything is still English (UK). For example, "synchronising", "favourites", "colour", etc. At first I thought that this wasn't a big deal, but it might be if other region settings persist. So I have three related questions that I'd love to find out:
If/when a custom bootloader is released for the Titan, can I use it to flash a US ROM to my device?
I have to switch carriers to AT&T in order to fully use the Titan (hence my hesitation), but will bringing the phone to AT&T and letting them activate it have a chance of loading US settings onto the phone? I know that will load AT&T app marketplace options, which is why I was curious.
Most importantly, even if none of this can possibly change, will I at all be restricted by UK region restrictions for Zune, Marketplace, etc.? I have a US-based Zune and WLID account, but this is my main concern because of the phone's region.
If anyone can share some insights on this, I'd really appreciate it.

1. US ROM must be considered. Because the AT&T version Does use the different Chips for different Radio version. It might get the phone bricked. The Goldcard tecnique is not available on Titan, so Official AT&T Rom to flash on the phone is nearly impossible. It need to be done by 3rd party.
2. No. Your Live ID will determine which content you can access. Don't ask why people at Asia can still submit and buys apps that are for US only.
3. The region of the phone could be changed, but not the agent inside. So, don't be surprise that you have the English voice comeout from Tellme and Turn-by-Turn navigation from Bing maps doesn't work at US. You can change, the Region Format, System Locale and Browser &Search Language to English (United States) but it can't change the fact, that this phone is built for Europe user. I will ask HTC if they can bring the custom language pack (if possible) to Windows Phone. I am still talking to HTC Tech Support about this.
I contacted HTC Support several times and they didn't give me any solution (apart from doing a deadly mistake of telling me to search the Android Market for an application :S)!!
I'm still hoping we find a different ROM to flash. Is there an Australian version maybe floating around? I'm dying to use voice navigation and Tellme (which doesn't understand anything when set to English UK).
Thanks for the replies...starting to think maybe I should just sell the thing and use the money to buy a US Titan - especially due to the points about navigation and TellMe. Of course, I'd probably want to sell it to someone in the UK so no one else has region problems. Maybe I'll start looking into that.
In the meantime, if any encouraging news pops up about this, let me know
