[Q] O2 3.14 ROM - where is it? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have any idea when the official 3.14 O2 ROM is being released? I contacted O2 UK yesterday, the customer services rep. told me that it was HTCs fault for not releasing the ROM, and that I should contact HTC to find out where it is. However, I suspect that when I do, they are going to blame O2 and get me to contact them! Oh don't you love the blame game........

Hallo!
I contacted support from O2 Germany about a week after HTC released the new ROM.They told me that they haven't any information wether it will be released or not.I looked at the download-site every day since that day but nothing happend.O2 is quite slow I think. They should bring out the new one.
Kind regards and a happy chistmas to all in this forum.

XDA2i o2 Update...when?

Even by o2 standards we're starting to get a bit behind...
does anyone have any inside goss on when the 2i update is due, and what's on it. I'm getting tired of lockups, crap looking UI's and the inability to launch GPRS once I connect it to my car cradle / charger. I've heard rumours of 2005 inclusion, is this remotely plausible? My experience of o2 would suggest otherwise.
I'd ring or email o2 or their staff accounts guys, but I think the average fruitfly knows more than they do. Besides, I like my hair and I would hate to see it all pulled out on the floor...who'd clean it up?

I agree fully. I purchased my XDAIIi on the promise from O2 that na update was to be release in Spring. This never came and I'm getting so fed up with O2 suddenly becoming very quiet about any upgrade at all, that I'm contacting the Office of Fair Trade to get my contract bounced with O2. Last I spoke with someone in O2 they have no immediate plans for any firmware release for the IIi which is completely contradictory to what I've been told previosuly. Come on O2. SORT IT OUT BEFORE YOU START LOSING CUSTOMERS!!
well imate have said that they will not release 2005 for any of their series og HTC devices so unless tmobile or o2 have a different openion then i dont see it happning
Sean I'm not so sure that the info you got from o2 was accurate...afterall when I tried to ring up a day before (yes a DAY) the 2i was released, I was told by THREE separate individuals on separate occasions that the 2i didn't exist!!
We'll keep hanging in there, but I agree it's getting pathetic now.

Update
I work for O2 and have managed to find out that the rom update for the XDAIIi has been scheduled for September 2005
at that time it better be wm2k5!!!!
If that's true, you've gotta love the mentality...
New phone = Feb 2005...rumoured update for Spring. Spring comes, nothing. Summer comes, nothing. No update from any o2 source, official or otherwise. Then, suddenly it's gone to September. Also the time the Universal is rumoured to be out.
If it's Sept, then as Zoheer says, it had better be 2005!!

I don't supose you could find out when the xdaIIs update is due as well?
Thanks Frogspit, If that's the case I can be patient until then. The most inuriating thing is getting no information at all from O2 or even denials of any update at all. It's like being stuck on a London Underground train thats not got going anywhere and the driver doesn't give any information. It really [email protected]@es people off and drives them away from their service.
The official reply given by the o2 second line team (data support) is that its "highly unlikely" that o2 will offer rom upgrades to wm5 for existing devices.

I find that a bit hard to believe. If you work for o2 then at what level have you got that info? If its at customer service level then someone is probably just playing guessing games.

Update
This information has been obtained from one of the members of the blackberry/tech support teams (non customer facing) within O2, I have been told as well as the O2 active update there is going to be a full rom update in or around the same time. this rom update will be the similar as the one that is currently available for the XDAII.
Included with the new rom update will be blackberry support for the XDAIIi aswell for those of you who are interested.
I have requested to be part of the beta test will post again near the time
This may coincide with this -
o2 music player
Xda II - Coming Soon
Get the latest sounds on your Xda II by downloading the O2 Music Player.
http://music.o2.co.uk/players.html
They may add the music player into the o2 active software which would require a ROM upgrade.

jdee246 shame on you for doubting me!!! rom update is now available from www.o2.co.uk/xda FULL SMUG MODE NOW
Don't see what you've got to be smug about. You got the date wrong and you were wrong about blackberry being in the rom.
Smug yes very
Yes got date wrong but they managed to launch early than anticipated so not totally wrong!!! and you were the main doubter as for the blackberry support they withdrew it due to technical issues what do you want 'the moon on a stick!!!!'
i dont think he / we want the 'moon on a stick' i think he / we want o2 to stop making promises which they clearly cant deliver.
i too upgraded from an xda2 to a 2i on the promise of blackberry support. its amazing that a company of o2's size and with the amount of money they make that they cant develope, test and release in 5 plus months something they only until recently kept saying would be released "soon"
total shambles to be honest
steve
There won't be a release for wm2005 on XDA IIi so start saving your money for the HTC Universal. Don't ask me how I got this info, but it is the fact! Too bad for all of us Xda IIi owners. Especially because I paid 1200 us when they first came out. Ouch!

You announce to all on this board that the release will include blackberry, and when it doesn't we're accused of wanting 'the moon on a stick'. That's very arrogant. You bloody announced it!
To be fair to O2, this is RIM software, and from what I'm hearing its RIM thats failing to come up with working software. But I do get annoyed when arrogant dickheads come onto this board, promise things that turn out to be complete rubbish and then blame us for it.
Frogspit, if I'd gone out and bought an xda IIi on the back of what you announced, because I want blackberry, now I really would be pissed off, and I'd be doing a lot more than just sounding off on this board.

HTC Says It will not distribute RUU upgrades except through Distributors!

I wrote to HTC asking when and where They would be distributing RUU upgrades for the HTC branded TyTNs. They replied with the following:
"Thank you for contacting HTC Europe support, Regarding your query, the official ROM update can be downloaded only from the distributor website, and the last version can be seen from their web page.
From you IMEI we can tell you which is the distributor webpage you will need to look at. Dangaard is the distributor of your phone so please look at http://www.windowsmobile.dangaard.com/start.aspx
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/cs_by_phone.html
Kind regards
Carola Rezza
HTC support

I did not purchase from Dangaard. i purchased from someone on the web who may have purchased from them. Nonetheless, i checked their site and they don't even show that they sell this branded version fo the TyTN. They sell the QTEK branded version.
I have written back to them to ask what now since i purchased an HTC branded product because i wanted HTC direct support, not Cingular support. They are a major pain when it comes to support.
Is this possible? Has anyone else heard anything more reliable that suggest that they intend to provide updates directly? The Dangaard site doesn't show any support options of any kind as far as I can see.

HTC Upgrade in UK only through repair centre!

Just had this back from HTC Support ...
The HTC TyTN ROM update will not be made available as a download. Only the repair centres can update your phone to the latest ROM. Please contact the below repair centre to get yours booked in.
So, the official UK upgrade ROM is now available, but they'll only make it available if you physically take or send your phone to Milton Keynes. Bloody ridiculous!

HTC Europe Support SUCKS!
After many attempts to get the Repair Centre to phone me back, I gave up.
BTW. Their latest ROM update was the same as the one released by Leaf Wireless in South Africa more than a month ago.(they even denied existance of the SA ROM release)
This ROM does not resolve all issues as claimed by them. If you have a problem with the data card dissapearing in the Media Player, then don't even waste your time on the update. It does not resolve the issue.
Want the problem fixed - flash WM6 Black 2.5 and hey presto!
Most likely it would be the same ROM that was released by Leaf some time ago, so no loss, IMHO.
HTC may feel that it is too close to their planned release of WM6?
Truth be told - I've been a Black man from 1.0 on my M3100 - happily running 2.5 with radio 1.40 (1.41 was a dog!). A far more conservative friend has a TyTn and I've gone down the "Official" rom path for her, but this is the final nail in that coffin. Given Black 3.0 Diddy is only a few days away, I'll wait for that and then it's flash time.
I guess the only reason for wanting the "official" upgrade would be just in case the TyTn gets sick - but there's always the Leaf rom for that I guess.

Vodafone Rom upgrade.

Does anyone know if they're going to release an official Vodafone ROM upgrade? I've contacted Vodafone and they sent me a text with a link for the orange ROM upgrade??? I was also told around mid-October that it would be released in a week??
are you sure they didnt send you to THIS page for all downloads, , , on which currently the top entry is the orange 3.14 rom? (and is also the page that any carrier 3.14 roms will appear)

Yes samsamuel, it was. I would have preferred it if they'd just said keep and eye on the hTc website, as that's what I've been doing for about 2 months anywez! Thanks for the reply m8. They sent me the following email:
Hello Paul,
Just to let you know that prior to releasing or approving any software update for our Vodafone customers who have bought a handset through Vodafone, we test it thoroughly to ensure it provides customers the best possible experience on our network.
Our testing process begins as soon as we receive the software, which often happens once the manufacturer has already released the open market version of the software.
During the review process, we report any issues with the software back to the manufacturer for them to address. Once the firmware is approved by Vodafone, we return it to the manufacturer and they will then distribute the software to customers through the appropriate channels.
We undertake this process with every device that we sell to customers, regardless of whether or not the handset contains Vodafone branded software.
If you have purchased the device from another company (Phones 4U, Carphone Warehouse etc) it is possible that the device may not be on the Vodafone version of software. In this case the manufacturer would be in control of releasing any future updates.
I trust the above information helps.
Kind regards,
Pravin Raut

Vodafone is so bloody annoying. I remeber it was released first on vodafone rather than orange, so how come orange got update before them. They had released ROM for HD mini, HD2 might be on the way....... no good vodafone !

I agree. I can't understand how orange got their update out before voda? Not only that, they then go and release a ROM upgrade for the hd mini? I just hope it comes out before year end?

Finally got my HD2 fixed, but they've changed the ROM

Hey guys,
So my phone developed a strange white mark on the screen. Took it to get it fixed and finally a month later Vodafone returned a different handset to me with the latest Vodafone ROM on it as I expected.
Bottom line is I don't want the Vodafone ROM on it. Can I simply install the official HTC ROM onto the handset from their website? Is it that simple or will it totally mess up my handset?
Thanks.
Richard.
Ha, just discovered now that it is locked to Vodafone. Can I make an issue out of this with the idiots at Vodafone? HTC website won't let me download their ROMs. What can I do about this?
do a hspl and flash away.......
BIG ISSUE
If the phone you send in to repair was originally an unbranded device and they returned you a branded device. I would make a BIG (oh no a HUGE) issue out of it, they just can't do that. They have to replace it with a similar device, a branded Vodafone device isn't worth half on the second hand market because of SIM-lock.
But you cannot just install a HTC ROM, you'll have to use HSPL2 (1.66HSPL preferable) but HSPL2 can void your warranty, all tough it is reversible. With HSPL2 the Vodafone branded device will still be SIM-locked.
webpatrick this is exactly as I thought...so yesterday before looking at the posts on here I sent a very heated email to Vodafone telling them exactly as it is. This handset is worthless to me. And you are right about the branding. I bought a phone last year that was branded (I didn't know this when I got it) and I had loads of trouble trying to sell it on. I can mess with the ROMs all I want but the bottom line is that any new HTC ROMs would never install unless I HSPL2 it, so how could I sell it on to someone without telling them that it is branded? I can't.
Words cannot convey how fuming I am with Vodafone right now. It took them a month to get a working device back into my hands...and then it wasn't even my device or indeed a similarly set up device. Absolutely pathetic. This means I have to make more journeys to the Vodafone store, waste my time and money etc.
Thanks for your posts guys. I will let you know what develops. I should be recieving a reply to my email at some point soon.
Richard
Ok so I got this email back from them today. How do you think I should proceed?
"Hello Richard,
To reinstall the HTC ROM on your phone you can visit the nearest Vodafone stores.
Alternatively, you need to contact the HTC manufacturer if they can help you to reinstall the HTC ROM on your phone.
I trust this helps."
What should I do? Should I persue the issue or do one of the above?
Thanks
Richard
So basically....THEY DIDN'T READ MY EMAIL.
So it was originally branded, you probable had a bit of discount back then.
But the employee that sold it to you probable didn't know it was branded neither. Vodafone used to brand devices with a visible vodafone logo on the outside, and they didn't do that with the HD2.
I also was mislead by it a year ago, but since an vodafone upgrade is available, i don't bother anymore, cause I can install any ROM I like with HSPL2 (except new 3.14 ROMs), and revert with the official vodafone upgrade if needed.
So if you want an original HTC ROM, you have to use HSLP2 or for the latest HTC ROM a GoldCard, cause there's no HSPL for the new 3.14 ROMs (with SPL 3.03.0000 bootloader) (see Artemis Thread).
Turns out I have just installed custom roms. I figured that I might as well void the warranty. I will just revert to the stock if worse comes to worse.
