[Q] flash won't work - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have read a lot of threads, tried them all but still have problems. Can sombody please help me.
I updated my HD2 with the original 3.14 from HTC then my troubles started.
I started getting an error about not enough memory. After checking it the device only sees 64 Mb memeory instead of 100+ for the working area.
After this I installed the last Artemis version, problem with memory gone. Because the version kept locking up my phone and sudden reboots happend, I re-installed Artemis. Then the memory error was back.
I have now tried everything that I could find: task 29, HSPL, back to SSPL, old versions, back to original (new), flashing original via SD card.
I keep getting 2 problems:
1) memory only sees 54 Mb working area !!!
2) when I try to flash I have to start from coloured screen. Otherwise won't see the HD2 (with Async). When flash starts and percentage screen appears it won't start updating.
Anyone....?

Reduce program memory (+/- 50MB) with Stock ROM 3.14 is because peoples don't remove HSPL before thy install stock ROM 3.14
Turn back to previous stock ROM
Remove HSPL, use HSPL2_RUN.exe and select a SPL version ex 1.66
Than reinstall stock ROM 3.14

I am not on HSPL.

is this phone yours or may be owned by someone else who had hspl before ??

No, my phone, first owner and have it since May.

Just thinking. I did put HSPL on it when my memory problem (64 Mb) started (after installing Artemis for second time). After that I went back to SPL.

My suggestion is to flash stock ROM 3.14 again over SD to be sure.

I already did that, same problem. With the original HTC upgrade 3.14 renamed to leoimg and boot from SD card.

flash original shipped via SD then hard reset then flash 3.14 again and see what happens.

thank you. it looks like it's working. sees 73 MB memory, still not all I think but it's a start

I too am on 3.14. Was a stock dutch rom so annoying
I downgraded to 1.48. Used HSPL3 to install my WWE 3.14.
I too have around 50 mb of memory.
Indeed, the solution seems to be to remove HSPL before running the rom. but if i remove hspl, how will i be able to run the WWE rom? wouldnt the phone be blocked on Dutch settings again?
Also, i was using HSPL3. How can i remove it, to then install HSPL2? what steps should i follow, what should i remove first, add next, etc? (for example, nobody had told me HSPL and 3.14 caused memory problems.. any other things i need to know? )
Thx for the explanations! (and to Samsamuel for his previous explanations)

Original is still working, but when I upgrade to 3.14 (original or Artemis) memeory problem is back.
Still in search of a solution.....who can help.

The memory problem is because you have HSPL while running 3.14 ROM. The easiet method is to go and flash the origional ROM that your phone came with. This should remove the HSPL. If it doesn't, then run HSPL2 - in it is the option to select the SPL that origionally came with the phone (these end in .0000).
If this ROM was from HTC (and not with mobile phone company branding), then you can reflash with the 3.14 ROM appropiate to your region.
If your phone is branded (ie O2, T-Mobile UK, Vodafone, etc), then you have to use the GoldCard method * HERE *. Then you can follow the process for the non-branded HTC phone.
Please note, that when you flash your phone you do so at your own risk. Make sure before you start what phone you have (ie T-Mobile USA) and read the instructions. Then read the instruction until you are sureyou know what you are doing.

Tried it all but still the same problems. back on original
Every time I try to update to 3.14 memory problems start. I don't understand. I really went thru every thing step by step but I don't get the whole memory back even on original the max is 73 MB. A friend of mine has the same one and is on original ROM with 123 MB free memory.
Is there a way to see what's blocking the memory?

[Q] total program difference

now i have flashed my leo by 2 different stock roms
the 1st one was 1.66
and my storage info was
total storage
198.41
used storage
39.07
free storage
159.33
total program
337.12
used program
124.93
free program
212.19
the 2nd one is 3.14
and my storage info was
total storage
208.15
used storage
57.52
free storage
142.63
total program
215.98
used program
150.12
free program
65.85
my question is why did the total program change that much in 3.14 its 215.98 while in 1.66 its 337.12 and how can i change the total program in the 3.14
because you don't have spl 3.03 so you lose approx 128meg and the phone will be less stable.
this ram issue is mentioned all over, amazing you didn't see a reference to it anywhere while you were searching.
so how can i get spl 3.03? or how can i fix this problem

First go back on previous stock ROM.
Remove your HSPL version by using HSPL2_RUN.exe (choose fore ex. spl 1.66)
Then reinstall Stock Rom 3.14 again.
i did this i installed my stock rom 1.66 then removed the hspl then installed the 3.14 but still low in program memory
what does bootloader say for spl?

Try, first to remove the hspl and then you install mama stock rom (the one that came with your device) and then the 3.14.
i did what u told me again but when i started flashing the 3.14 the update utility said "this update utility cant be used for ur PDA phone. please check your update utility"
you need a goldcard, or wait till there is a 3.14 vendor release for your vendor locked phone.
my phone is not branded but my stock rom is for middle east while the 3.14 for Europe only
and i didnt find any 3.14 for middle east

ah yea, region lock, carrier lock, same end result. On the plus side there is more likely to be a regional update before most carrier updates.

Software Update Failed - uninstalling HSPL

Hi all, I've been running HSPL and Stock ROM 3.14.405.2 on my UK T-Mobile HD2. I needed HSPL as its a generic ROM.
I decided to try a cooked ROM (Artemis), which required the removal of HSPL. I extracted "RUU_signed.nbh" from the 3.14 ROM, renamed it to "leoimg.nbh" and stuck it on my SD Card, before resetting and pressing the down volume. It rebooted, asked if i wanted to continue with the installation, and then reset halfway through.
I'm now getting "Upgrade ROM code error. Please Try Again" and sometimes a grey screen with red numbers "00028002" at the top.
I've tried installing a standard 3.14 ROM again, and a 1.66 ROM, but both say they are unable to communicate to the phone.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated please - I'm gonna have to crack out my Nokia N70 back up soon!!
What haoppened is that when you ran the 3.14 update from sd card, because HSPl was installed it allowed it to start flashing even though its not for your phone. (As hspl should indeed do).
Problem is that step 1 of the update process is to replace the spl(hspl) and instal spl 3.03.0000. The phone then reboots into the new 3.03.0000 bootloader and flashing continues. Except it doesn't, because hspl is no longer there, so your phone rejects the 3.14 rom and you get rom update error and are left with spl 3.03.0000 and no way to apply a 3.14 rom.
Had you tried to flash that rom without hspl, it would have simply failed and done nothing.
The 1.66 rom didnt work because it is an unbranded rom, and you have a branded phone.
You need a t mo uk rom, and you dont need to use sd card, you can flash over usb from bootloader and it will downgrade spl from 3.03.0000 and hspl2 will again work.
Only way, the ONLY way, you can get a 3.14 rom onto your branded hd2 is goldcard. running it as you did with hspl causes instability and only 200 and odd meg ram, with only 50 meg free.
if you would read the install instructions on the first post of the Artemis ROM;
1) you didn't need this thread.
2) you saw the step by step guide on how to do it (available in 3 language!!)

Thanks for the response - I thought something along those lines had happened, so I've gotten TMobile 1.72 from the HTC site.
Ive extraced RUU_signed and renamed it to leoimg, and stuck it on the SD Card. My problem is now, when i boot with the volume held down, It just says "Upgrade ROM code error. Please Try Again" still. It doesnt seem to boot from the SD. Am i missing something or is it totally ballsed?
EDIT: After formatting a different card and trying again, it's working. Wiping now....
As for this goldcard stuff, i assume there's plenty of threads to do that?

Ahhhhhh, that'd explain why performance with 3.14 has been totally rubbish. I had no idea hspl had an overhead like that. Goldcard it is then......if i ever get it working
its not hspl with the overhead, its an incompatibility between the rom and the spl. If you put 3.14 rom on there and then remove hspl leaving say 1.66.0000, you still get the same issues.
As for goldcard, theres a goldcard request thread in rom dev section, post a cid there and ill make a batch of images up later this evening.

[Q] Unable to flash any ROM without HSPL

Hi all
Apologies if this has been covered before but I cannot find anything thus far. I upgraded my HTC HD2 (Vodafone branded) from 1.72 to 3.1.4. As the device was branded I had to use HSPL (version 3) as Vodafone had no specific version, at that time, and thus used the generic HTC version as it was all that was available at that time. This seemed fine until I hit the, what I now know to be the memory issue, with this combination. At this point after trying a number of custom ROM's, I am using a Dutty Custom ROM (V12, COM2). I decided today, as I just discovered that Vodafone now have their own specific 3.1.4 ROM update available I would flash the 3.1.4 ROM, which I was able to download legitimately from the HTC web site, using my serial number.
I first flashed the stock ROM in the vain hope that the Vodafone had fixed the memory issue. They haven't and thus I decided to remove HSPL. I did this from the installation program and chose the 0000 option which removes HSPL. I then rather stupidly decided to run a task 29, which of course, failed at 0% and just hung totally. It did not time out after 10 minutes, at which point I had no option but to remove the battery and data cable. Fortunately the phone booted up and ran normally. I thus decided to re-flash with the legitimate Vodafone 3.1.4 ROM. as the memory issue still persisted. It failed at 0% just as with the task 29. I now cannot flash ANY Rom unless I install HSPL. I have only tried version 3 thus far.
Any ideas how I can get my phone loaded up with my genuine 3.1.4 Vodafone branded ROM without HSPL and thus avoid the memory issue and load genuine ROMS and updates please? For now I am back to using the Dutty V12, COM2 ROM. Any ideas most gratefully recieved and apologies if this has been covered before.
Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
Paul Lemonidis.
Try flashing to HSPL 2 not 3, and read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Russ
Flash your vodafone stock ROM over SD.
And to be able to install custom ROM, use SSPL_RUU
phone into bootloader
connect usb
run hspl2
choose 1.66.0000
when phone restarts immediately re enter bootloader
run the voda 3.14 rom flash over usb
Thanks
I flashed from an SD Card and all was well. I can now reflash the same version, which I could not before, without HSPL. Thus for the moment I no longer need HSPL. Thus my warranty is valid again and I have a stable phone with the latest correct vendor ROM. I may try a custom ROM again at some point in the future if I experience problems but at least I can say I gave it a fair chance.
As a sideline, Swype works beautifully with this ROM.
Once again many thanks in advance.
Regards,
Paul Lemonidis.

Take the 1.72 ROM and use the flash from the SD Card method. This will get you back your memory.
The reason for the memory problems is a combination of 3.14 ROM and HSPL.

No way to recover all my RAM

Hello everybody,
Here is my problem:
My Hd2 had a Rom 1.44, I do not know where it came from, I bought it second-hand (my oerator is sfr). I decided to install the Rom 3.14 coming from HTC (Tx a false serial number and i has a hspl 2.08)
Everything goes well exept my memory(programs) decrease abominably (as everybody knows but as an idiot I had not inquired before).
I believed that by installing hspl3.03 that would be back to normal again! it didn't. (I even reinstalled the ROM3.14 and also tried with the spl 3.03)
I installed back the hspl 2.08 and reinstalled an old version (RUU_Leo_HTC_FRA_1.66.406.1_Radio_Signed _15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship) The problem was the same.
I try via task29 with as radio Rom 2.15.50.14. And flash with the Rom above, always similar: total report: 208,97, used: 132.21, free: 76,76.
I do not know any more what to do! Please Help !
Tx to read me, have a nice end of we.
(sorry for my english, i am french)
McAlister
enter bootloader
run hspl4
choose 3.03.hspl from teh dropdown
when phone reboots quickly enter bootloader again
run your 3.14 .exe rom install over usb.
report back.
Tx to help me,
I did it,i didn't use the exe but it used customruu and the 3.14.nbh
It's ok no ?
Even the probleme is here again total progams memory is 208.81 mo !
I also tried with the 1.42 spl and the 1.66 rom, the probleme was there too !
i also tried to install the 3.14 rom with the 1.66.000 spl, the probleme was there too !
i have no more idea !

well yea, it would be, it will always be there whenever the rom is 3.14 and the spl is NOT 3.03.xxxx
I mean i have first installed the 1.66.000 spl and then i install the 3.14 rom (nbh via customruu) like i read here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-826915.html
so you have 3.14 running now, and what does it say in bootloader? (please dont just guess, go and have an actual look)
Hey McAlister, make sure that when. you flashed the 3.14 ROM that it is flashing this radio too. Radio version 2.15.50.14

As I understand, Stock ROM version 3.14 includes Radio 2.15.xx.xxx
Unless you flash the Custom ROM which would not include the Radio, then you have to flash radio separately
Cheers
Samsamuel --> I can't have a look now because i have installed the 1.66 rom but i remember, because i did care of it, that when i have installed the spl 3.03 before installing the rom it was the spl 3.03 after, and when i tried with the hspl 3.03 (before) it was the hslp 3.03 after too.
T-Macgnolia --> Yes the radio have changed for the 2.15.50.14 each time i tried with the exe, and, in fact, when i have used the ruucustom.exe the radio was 2.15.50.14 yet.
I am now with the 1.66 rom and with hspl 2.08 but my total memory is again 208 mo.
Tx a lot for your help.
Sure you don't have a pre release model??? Some of those come with less ram,,
That's not impossible, do you know how i can see that ?
Not sure, some have decals on the back, HT97 comes to mind,, Google it. What's top line in bootloader?
Download HSPL4 and install HSPL 2.08.
Download the last radio and update it!
The first line in bootloader is : PB81100 SS-BC
No Decals writing in the back but look at this link, the memory spec : http://www.slashgear.com/htc-touch-hd2-full-spec-list-revealed-0558921/
it's the same for me when i look in (in french) informations materielles. My brother have an Hd2 too, its total memory isn't 320 mo but 448 mo.
I am like nicolog71 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-639818.html
ok, you arent mistaking total hardware ram and total available program ram, are you?
The hardware on a regular hd2 has 448meg ram, of which the graphics hardware takes 128meg, leaving teh system with 320meg ram, of which usually a good 120 meg or more is taken by the system running, cookies and suchlike, leaving about 200 usually for you to use. It can really easily be that you get much less than 200 meg ram free.
This all gets more confusing if you have gotten used to running cooked roms with the 576 enabled, because THEN the hardware info page shows 576MB and the system moemory app shows 448 total. You will not get this on any stock roms. Only on tweaked cooked roms, and since you have flashed back to stock roms, you will currently see hardware 448, total 320.
Perhaps your brother has a cooked rom installed?
You need to look at the hardware info page, which should show 448MB Ram, and compare that to the windows system memory page which will show 320 or so total RAM with xxMB used /XX free.
So my hd2 is a pre released hd2, you were right !
Do you know if there is a way to unlock the rest of the memory ?
Thank for all, you really help me and now i can understand my problem !
no clue, sorry, , have a read thru some of the threads started by xmoo, he knows a ton about test roms and models.
ok, tx again, i will try to buy another Hd2 or waiting for the next big screen htc phone.
