I notice that some people are able to show screen shots of their phone on the internet, how do I get a screen capture of my screen and show it on the computer? Also, is there a way to maneuver on the phone and have it show on the computer as well?
Yeah give me a min to get to the computer to get the name.

Okay, thanks dude. Also, do you happen to know what I can use for the same process for an iPod Touch?
Its called QtADB, u will need android-sdk, aapt and i belive your phone rooted. Just google search QtADB and it will have links to everything if I remember correctly. Dont know about the ipod

I use QtADB as well, and would have been my recommendation, but given that it requires the installation of the Android SDK, if you don't want to download and install that then there are apps on the market to do screenshots/screen captures. You'll have to search for them, I don't have any of them installed.
I use shootme(in the market), but you have to be rooted. You simply run the program, then shake the phone when you want to take a screenshot.
There's another app called: Drocap2 for root users. Obviously you need root, but there are some handy ways for taking screen captures such as having the icon in the notification bar and clicking it.

Has anyone figured out how to get the droid eris to work with app inventor? From what I've heard everyone's having a lot of trouble with it. I'm on a mac, btw, and I've been mounting the phone as a disk drive with no success.
I just sent my request for an invite yesterday, so obviously have not heard back yet. I don't think there are many that have gotten theirs yet either... Just for fun, I did install the appinventor-extras and it did recognize my phone, so I hope that's a good start. Running Windows 7 32bit.
Do you have a Droid Eris as well? And yah, I think it has something to do with running it on a mac because it isn't compatible with HTC Sync which contains most of the drivers I need.
Have an Eris but do not have Sync set up. Already had adb installed so probably just used the the ones that were already added in.
When I get my invite I will get it to work with the Droid Eris. Btw, if you're on a mac, ubuntu works really well dual booted, if thats your thing.
Does anyone know the extent of apps that you can make with this thing? Like, how complicated are we going to be able to get? I'd love to make a mashup of my favorite home replacements...

Yah, it's surprisingly in depth actually. So far, I've noticed there's a function which can force a text, an "activity starter" (which allows you to open apps on the phone), and basic textbox and image components, to name a few.
just got my invite about an hour and a half ago and I still cant get my phone to connect to app inventor... I tried using the custom .inf and that didnt work. it wouldnt even recognize it. i am going to use the emulator for now.
if anyone finds a working driver please upload it.
I have a question to anyone who has access to app inventor. Does anyone else's phone reboot when loading an app onto it? Also in google chrome every time I open the blocks editor it makes me download a new jar file.
AcidRoot, It's normal to download the file everytime. And I don't have problems with my Eris rebooting, but mine doesn't work with AppInventor (I was invited).
My phone is rooted, and I did give permission to drocap2, however, when I take a picture, it's just not being saved. I view the phone from the computer and the pictures just don't show up in the drocap folder.
I've got the same problem!
I use MyPhoneExplorer instead. Works every time!
none of the screen cap programs are working as of yet aside from using the sdk
I feel like this shouldn't be a problem. Google should be programming a screencap feature into android.

How can you take a screenshot from the Atrix?
My phone is rooted and I have tried several apps from the market but none of them worked on the Atrix.
can we please sticky this? it's been answered dozens of times.
plug into your PC, get the android SDK, find ddms.bat in the tools folder, grab screenshot. that is the only way right now.

Except it isn't.
http://www.fjsoft.at/en/
1, Download and install Myphoneexplorer
2, Start MPE and plug in your phone
3, From the upper menu chose "Screenshot"
4, Save
That's the easiest way to shoot your screen!
Or just download screen capture shortcut from the market. You don't even need to be rooted.

i bet you that is doing exactly the same thing as what i posted, just wrapped up in a third party GUI. regardless, go that route if you wish.

too bad when you look at that app in the market it says it only supports the galaxy S and tab. If you had an atrix you'd know that doesn't work on this phone.

You said that the SDK-way is the only way at the moment. I just showed TS that it isn't.
And the SDK can be kinda of confusing to begin with if you aren't used to it. That's why MPE is an easier way to go all around imo.

you're right, wasn't trying to sound jerkish. I was just pointing out that i bet it is doing the same thing, using the SDK stuff.
FWIW, the ddms.bat is really not confusing. it launches a nice windows with clear menus. Under a menu at the top is a screen shot option. Much nicer than the command prompt stuff you usually use abd for.
I dunno if it's the dual cams, or GB, but all my screen shots are borked.
I've tried ShootMe and ScreenShot which just distort the images something fierce.
I've seen some people post screen caps so it must be possible but I havent seen a single post here about it and I've had nothing but problems....
Whatcha using, or whats the workaround ?
[edit
This is what they come out like...
DroCap2 works a treat for me.
give that one a shot, it's free and on marketplace as well.
Thx bud, as you said, works a treat...
DDMS tool - Android SDK
I use the DDMS tool that you can find in the Android SDK package.
How do you get it to not show the start and cancel options
Edit : got it had to use notification trigger and set the image as jpeg if not they'd come out choppy

Doesn't work properly for me. Seems buggy. Most of the time when it captures a screen, you see the "DroCap2 has been granted superuser..." popup on top of what you are capturing. And most of the time the screen has improper line shifts and blocking issues where it appears the screen got captured mid-refresh.
Mike
I also use Android SDK/DDMS. Will try DroidCap2, but i dont have high expectations. No screencap app has worked yet, as im not rooted and wont be until full root is possible (perm).
Did notice tho that live wallpapers cause tearing in the screen caps.
EDIT: Droidcap2 needs root, so i wont be able to try it, so far DDMS has worked well, screenshots on my facebook page linked in my sig
So I've came across the official HTC flashlight app and figured others would want it also.
Just click on the link below and download. MAKE SURE TO HAVE UNKNOWN SOURCES CHECKED TO BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD!
Once downloaded just download a file manager from the playstore go to downloads and find it and install.
Works perfectly and has all three brightness settings. Just tap the button on the flashlight and bam your good to go and don't have to be afraid of the dark anymore!
This app is not guaranteed to keep boogie men, monsters, stalkers, serial killers, and other things that go bump in the night away, its simply a flashlight and most it can do is blind those and enable a chance to run away and piss your pants.
Enjoy!!!

I'm pretty sure this is already available in the HTC Hub. Or did they take it out again?

For what it's worth, TeslaLED is a free Market alternative that has a Sense-widget, much like the HTC Flashlight of yesteryear. I've found it to be the closest copy (in a good way) to the HTC Flashlight widget I used to love.
Bonus: No intrustive permissions like some flashlight apps;

i like tiny flashlight + led. It has a widget you can press to turn the light on and off without going into an app.
