I don't have the answer to this, I'm afraid, but there are threads about this in Eris General. Several people have noticed that this happens, including me. It's happened to me with both wired and wireless tethering. It was horrible. And then I did some research and found a way to wired tether that was different. It uses your phone as a proxy server.
If you don't mind wired tethering and want to try this, see my thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852618.
It's not my idea, I just found it. Inititally, it worked great, to be honest. Much more reliable and I still have never had the 3G drop with this method. However, for whatever reason (perhaps something specific with my setup on my computer and/or phone), it wasn't working so well several days back so I went back to wireless tethering, and although I still have problems for the most part things are okay. When it becomes unbearable again I'll once again go back to this "Proxoid" method.

Thanks I appreciate the help.

No data connection after flashing custom roms.

Hey everybody! I know I am not the only person having this issue so I thought ide make a post for it. It seems when I flash any custom rom, be it hybrid r3, vibrant9 or bionic, data connection is lost. In settings> about phone> status.. Mobile network status; disconnected. Pushing the build.prop provided by eugene and making sure apn settings are correct have no effect. Evan rebooting a few times is null. Upon contacting t-mobile and having them manually restart my network service I was hoping that would do the trick, but had no while having a custom rom active. With stock rom data connection its good. So I can't help but wonder why none if the roms give me my data connection. I've also noticed while using custom roms there is no way to add t mobile to accounts and sync, though perhaps that ability only appears when you have an active data connection. Anyone else who has had this issue found a solution? I am loving these custom roms, great job devs!

Did you bother even looking at the APN?

Good point that. I used to do tech support for the magenta colored death star for 4 years. I stopped shortly after the g1 launched. There were some customers I wanted to tell to put the phone on the table and don't touch. By the way op, make sure the apn is set to epc.tmobile.com I have had zero problems with data on any of the roms you mentioned. In fact vibrant9 was the best data throughput for me out of all of them.

To the OP's point, I was wondering if I've done something to bork my 3g data throughput. I keep reading the multiple megabit speeds people are posting, and I can't get anywhere near that. The fastest I've ever achieved is 1 mbit u/d in Dallas, which is supposedly one of the stronger areas for T-Mobile.
Currently running Eugene's Vibrant9 with Jac's 1.2Ghz OCv4 Kernel. I'm contemplating flashing completely back to stock with Odin, then seeing if that improves things any. Any of the guru's have any opinion on if that might make a difference, or would I be wasting my time?

if you research this, the sirius xm app seems to have some type of disable over 3g function so that you cannot use it over 3g. but then people claimed that it started to work, but only for 10 minutes over 3g. some people even posted that they called sirius support, and they were told that this app is specifically blocked from streamign over 3g. so who knows. its a buggy app though.

Not my experience at all.
The Sirius app works perfectly on my Thunderbolt (Verizon), my Nexus S (TMobile) and iPhone 4 (AT&T) over 3G/4G connections. I'm listening to Srius's Dr Radio on the iPhone 4 over a 3G connection right now. I listened to it in the gym on the Thunderbolt for two hours on Tuesday. No noticeable bugs for me.
The app pops up a warning when you're not on WiFi about excessive data charges are possible over cellular data, but it doesn't prevent you from using it.
To the OP - impatience is understandable when you're frustrated, but the xda crowd isn't very tolerant of breaking etiquette...
Im on VirusRom and cannot connect to sirius. Im in a 3g only area with no available wifi anywhere nearby. The sirius app just keeps acting like its loading, and thats all it does, it never starts streaming for me.
I'm pretty sure its the Rom I switched to boltofphotons and the app works now
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Yes, probably something in your ROM, or you're in a weak 3G signal and something streaming like this taxes it.
Stock phone, and Das BAMF the app works just fine on my Thunderbolt.
Does it stream fine on wifi? How about other streamers like Pandora or the like.
I've got a TB and an Evo. TB is running Liquid 1.0 with the new radios and it works fine for me on both 3G and 4G as of this morning. App is known to be buggy tho- it didn't play nice with the last Evo RUU (3.70) and broke streaming (but was fixable with a hack to proxy settings)- but whether that's Sprint's fault (as Sirius says) or Sirius's fault (as Sprint says), nobody really knows.
Ive seen posts about people on VirusRom not getting sirius to work, Ive seen posts about people on VirusRom that did get sirius to work. Anyone have any ideas about whats up? Any ideas about how to fix it besides switching Roms?
Signal strength is -70 dBm/ 3g only area and no wifi for hundreds of miles from me. I also use a dual band signal booster in my home. And apps like Pandora do work for me. I just cant stand Pandora.

AT&T customers: Actively tethering? w/ and actively hiding it? Secrets?

So this thread applies to you, if:
1) you belong to AT&T
2) you tether, either with the mobile hotspot app, barnacle, pdanet, etcetc
3) you change the TTL value/hack/hide/tunnel, to hide your tethering usage
Is your method working?
After some time I will release my current method of tethering which allows seems to hide my tethering as my bill has no increased, and after my first letter I have yet to receive any more. However I just want to see if it's just me or if someone has found this method too. NOTE: i'ts not my method but it's one of the less common ways of hiding tethering, also it can be googled.
K go.
VPN???????????
I'm new to this tethering thing.
apparently, my method sucks and I'll be caught.
mobile hotshot, I believe.

Do you know about how much?
I'm keeping an eye on this thread seeing as the moment I got my warning I stopped tethering and have been avoiding it like the plague, often times to my great inconvenience.
I'm curious to know whether there is a safe way to do it.

same here. Although OP is 20 days old and somewhat trollish, I'm going to create my own thread that will hopefully get better responses.
I have been using Wifi Tether for over a year w/o a warning. Before the Atrix I used it on the Captivate.

I have that same issue with Internet calling, not just WiFi calling with the Amaze (which I haven't tried yet). I use an inexpensive VOIP system at home called NetTalk. It plugs directly into your router which avoids the necessity of having a computer turned on in order to work. I'm generally pleased with it, but I experience frequent delays in audio between home and anyone else - whether they are on a traditional land line, cell phone, or another VOIP. It's like listening to the audio track from conversations with the space shuttle. I honestly don't know whether it's an issue with Internet traffic/speed or the system itself, but it does get annoying. However, at $30 a year and considering how infrequently we use a "land line", I put up with it.
Yes I have the same problem, I was told it was a rom issue.

[Q] A couple of unusual issues.

I have successfully unlocked, rooted and s-offed my HTC One Max. However I'm noticing a couple of odd things.
One, nova launcher doesn't seem to stick as the default launcher without freezing the HTC sense app with TiBu. Any ideas as to why, or is this just a Sense thing?
Also, I used to create a WiFi hotspot using my laptop and a netsh hosted network, connecting to my old Galaxy Nexus without issue. I cannot get the One Max to connect with any combination of security and channels. I've tried connectify as well, without success. I'd love to see if anyone has an alternative.
Thanks.

Seems most of us are having the best results with the Wireless Tether Router app from the Play Store. It's costs about $2 There's another wifi tether thread that guides you through the settings. Haven't had it long enough to take it through any rigorous data connectivity testing, but it sets up fairly quickly with a great signal.

Thanks for the info, but my issue is that I get poor reception in our office, so I share my computers internet via its WiFi adapter with my phone, not the other way around. Still hoping to see ideas, as I'm thinking it may be a WiFi supplicant edit that's necessary.
