[Q] Vibrant soft bricked; stuck in recovery - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm a newbie. More than that; I'm an English teacher. So maybe I had no business rooting my Vibrant. But I was tired of waiting for 2.2, so I figured out how to load Axura on my rooted phone. And loved it, until it started lagging.
The mistake I made was my haste in trying to install Voodoo lag fix. I mistakenly downloaded the European version (for the i9000, instead of the T959); to compound matters, I got impatient and tried to hard boot the phone when it hadn't rebooted in five minutes.
Long story short: I figured out how to use Odin (on the Boot Camp partition of my MacBook); downloaded 1.7, along with the 512 pit file and the stock kernel. Managed to get a "Pass!" from Odin after only about 15 seconds.
But when the phone reboots, it always boots into recovery mode. I get the Vibrant splash screen, then E:Can't mount /dev/block/s111 (Invalid argument).
I've spent hours looking over the forums here, as well as on other sites, and can't find a solution. The most common suggestion is to download Eugene373's Froyo that won't brick--but it has apparently been pulled from the internet.
Any suggestions? I don't think it's hopeless, because I can get to the system recovery screen (although with only four choices: reboot system now; reinstall packages; delete all user data; delete cache data).
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

froyo has been out for the vibrant for a while.
start odin
get into download mode
plug phone in(should already be in)
make sure a com port is lit up in yellow
put these files in said sections:
PIT: http://www.divshare.com/direct/12692662-720.pit
PDA: http://www.divshare.com/direct/13144348-b8e.zip
check repartition to fix your filesystems(you must have loaded the above pit to do this or it wont go right)
click start
this will take you back to JK2(what i use for stock froyo)

Thank you very much. I knew it was something simple like this. I had the correct .pit file, but I was missing the right .tar file.
Now, I'm pleased to say that I'm out of the tarpit!
(I'm assuming that JK2 is a stock ROM that I flash back to when I get my nerves back and start trying out custom ROM's again.)

Similar issue...in ODIN hangs on setupconnection
Hi All,
I have a similar problem. I am a newbie too..so sorry for the ignorance. I have spent tons of time reading and have flashed ROMS several times successfully. But something happened, and I am unsure why.
I am now stuck in Vibrant logo screen. I am able to do the three button thing to get to Android system recovery (2e) screen. I cannot get to download screen, but ODIN recognizes the phone. Here is the message listed in Odin as it seems to be stuck on Setup Connection.
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar.md5 is valid.

<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/018> Odin v.3 engine (ID:18)..
<ID:0/018> File analysis..

My phone screen says
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
Now I know update.zip file was on there and a copy exist on external card. I have tried to run android-sdk-windows to use ADB to get to download screen but am unsuccessful- ADB is not a recognized command in cmd.
So now i have no phone :-(
Please help.

You're probably going into Download mode wrong, or hitting the wrong combo, follow this guide:
1. Take off your phone's back cover and take out your SIM card.
2. Take out your phone's battery
3. Attach your USB cable to your phone while plugged in and have ODIN ready on screen.
5. You should have your usb plugged in WITHOUT your battery plugged in. Now hold both volume keys down, and put the battery back in while STILL HOLDING DOWN THE VOLUME KEYS!!!
6. Download mode should be on screen.
7. Load the .pit and .tar files into ODIN, DO NOT CHECK RE PARTITION!!!!
8. Please be patient, if you get stuck at cache, unplug and try again, that should fix your problem.
Remember don't select repartition unless you know what you're doing. That's for fixing your phone if you're really ****ed up, just try it without it first...

Nevermind... for now... adb is C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools... earlier post had it is tools. Now i have the screen i need...fingers crossed...

Vibrant Stuck in recovery loop

[Q] Stuck in download mode

Hello!
As it says. I'm stuck in Odin3 download mode.
I have a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 GTP7500 wifi+3g
Previously I've had the Galaxy Task 14 rom installed on my tab but wanted to go back to the old 3.2 (honeycomb?) version of android, which I had before. I had a good experience with the GT 14 and it worked great but wanted to go back to 3.2 to feel the difference of the roms.
Anyway, I did a system restore from my backup in CWM with the expectation of everything going smoothly. But after the system restore I got stuck on the boot screen and waited a couple of hours with out any progress. So I decided to reboot, I entered CWM recovery to clear my caches to see if that would help but it had the same results. After browsing the forums a bit i found 'Overcome's Guide' to re-stock my system. Followed the instructions as told and 110% I did everything right. (Though I suspect that clearing the caches might have something to do with it) But it resulted in me being stuck in 'Odin3 download mode'. I can reboot but, either I will directly enter into download mode or I'm at the selection menu where I can't enter CWM recovery mode.
In download mode is says following
Odin3 Download Mode
(Protocol v2.1)
Reason: No Kernal
Secure Mode: Secure
Check Signature: Check
Custom Binary Downlad: No (0 Count)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
Waitting USB cable...
==> Connected! Press the [Start] of Odin3!!
When I try flashing Overcome_CWM_Recovery_v4.1.1.5.tar
I get this:
<ID:0/008> recovery.img
<ID:0/008> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/008> RQT_CLOSE !!
<ID:0/008> RES OK !!
<ID:0/008> Completed..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
<ID:0/008> Removed!!
<ID:0/008> Added!!
<ID:0/008> Removed!!
<ID:0/008> Added!!
Which appears to me to be success. System reboots but I end up in download mode again.
Then I tried using the android_fastboot_emmc_full_p4_16G_32G.pit and the P7500OXAKI1_P7500XXKI1_P7500XXKI1_HOME.tar.md5
I get these results:
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> MD5 hash value is invalid
<OSM> P7500OXAKI1_P7500XXKI1_P7500XXKI1_HOME.tar.md5 is invalid.
<OSM> End...
I tried browsing the forums to why the hash value was invalid but didn't find any answer that could enlighten me on that matter.
Also found another post which had a similar problem as mine but in his case there might have been a HDD failure since there was some additional error codes appearing for him. I have yet to see those error codes.
I hope you guys can help me in my dilemma?
Thank you!
Solved the problem. I tried flashing with a stock rom from samsung-updates.com rebooted the tab after ended installation and all worked well.
Hi,
I have the same problem. When you say that you flashed a stock rom... which process did you followed?

[Q] System update bricked my phone!?!

I have a Samsung S3 on O2 (UK). Yesterday I got a system update notification and I downloaded and installed the update (it was quite big, about 300MB). There were no issues during the install and it restarted fine when it finished, however about an hour later the phone just restarted itself on its own (it was in my pocket) and then just kept looping the restart process over and over. I couldnt get the phone to get passed the logo screen. I tried removing the battery, sim card, etc but nothing helped. I read in a post here to try to use the "Recovery Mode" to restart the device. I did that and it worked, I was able to get the phone started again, but about half an hour later it did exactly the same thing but this time I couldn't get into recovery mode anymore! I read a few more posts on this forum and it looked like the update had soft bricked my phone. I could get the phone into download mode so I thought I would try using Odin to re-install the stock firmware. I followed the instructions on the post to the letter, downloaded the correct firmware from Samsung, installed the USB drivers for the phone but when I tried to use Odin it just said the the update failed. Now when I turn on the phone I get the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I have read a few posts on suggested work arounds but no matter what I try Odin always just gets stuck on "Nand Start Write!!!". I have tried re-installing the USB driver, using a different cable and even a diff computer but always the same.
Can anyone help? This is really annoying. I have never tried to do a root or mess around with the phone so it seems really odd that something like this would happen following a standard update
P.S These are the instructions I followed when I tried to re-install the official firmware - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969

Then flash a stock ROM image through Odin
You only need to boot into download mode for odin download the relevant firmware package and odin when you connect it via usb in download mode you will notice the first com port on odin turn yellow to indicate a device is connected
Do a search for detailed instructions buddy

Hmmm. When I connect the phone it makes the sound in Windows that the phone has been connected but then in Odin the com port is blue not yellow. Does that mean that it has not detected the phone properly?

[Q] i9100 Boot Loop

I've been running wanamlite 14.6 (JB 4.1.2) on my Galaxy S2 i9100 for a few months without problems.
Yesterday, my phone turned off before I'd expect the battery to have run out. I charged it overnight and when I tried to turn it on this morning, it got to my lock screen (with battery indicator at the top) then went black and rebooted. The same thing happened about five times, so I went into the PhilZ recovery and did the Wipe Data/Factory Reset. When I rebooted, it got as far as the SAMSUNG logo with the blue swirl, then hung for a few minutes, before restarting and doing the same again. After a few restarts it gets to the "Samsung Galaxy" welcome screen in a foreign language with "Izberite jezik" written above the drop-down (despite the fact that I chose English as the installation language). This screen appears for a couple of seconds (and does not respond to touch) before rebooting again.
I've tried:
Re-flashing the ROM
Factory Reset (again)
Reinstalling the Siyah Kernel
Could anyone let me know what my next steps should be? This is my first rooted phone, and I haven't got a clue how this happened, or how to proceed...
Thanks in advance.
Flash a stock firmware via odin....

I've just tried that with Odin 3.07 and and I9100XWLSW_I9100XXMS2_I9100XEULS5_HOME.tar.md5
Odin gets stuck at "SetupConnection.."
I've tried a different cable, and a different USB port to no avail.
Plenty more to try, not just usb port and cable. Click the link in my signature and follow the guide there to troubleshoot.

I suggest trying once more flash ROM ,link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365701
I've tried downloading the firmware from the hotfile links in the post wufang640 linked to. Each time I get to 99% (after quite a while) it says "one second remaining" and then seems to hang. I've tried this in Firefox and IE and I get the same problem. Could this be antivirus related (I'm running Avast)?
I've downloaded the file again, using mega.co.nz, and this time the download completed successfully.
I unzipped the ZIP file and copied the I9100XWLSW_I9100XXMS2_I9100XEULS5_HOME.tar.md5 and the SS_DL.dll files to my C:\
I tried to open the ...tar.md5 file in 7zip but I get the following message:
"There is no correct record at the end of archive"
Does this mean the download failed (again)?
I tried to flash the file again on three different computers, with three USB cables (generic, official SGS2 cable, official SGS3 cable). I also tried all combinations of cable and computer and USB port.
Although the phone is detected by Odin - i get the "Added" message - it hangs every time on "SetupConnection.."
With Odin v3.04 I get this message:
<OSM> I9100XWLSW_I9100XXMS2_I9100XEULS5_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.

I can still get into the PhilZ recovery tool, and have access to the WanamLite 14.6 rom image on my external SD card. When I try to install this, I still get the foreign language "Samsung Galaxy" welcome message as before. I've tried so many things now, I have no idea if I'm rooted, not rooted, or what's going on.
Any further help, as ever, appreciated!

S6 Edge Accidentally Completely Wiped it (?) How To Get A OS On It

So I was trying to unroot my phone, to be able to play that new mobile nintendo game of all things and in the process of that got myself stuck in a boot loop, with my wits I tried on my own to get my phone out of the loop. ADB Sideload in worst case
Your last but 100% working hope once executed the right way will be the use of ADB Sideload within TWRP which is your obvious recovery. You will need either a SDcard (not for S6 and Edge), a USB with a direct usb cord, or a PC with USB cord to do this. For PC you will need the ADB SideLoad drivers for your phone model to be installed on your PC. Once installed you can connect your phone via USB to your PC and run the ADB SideLoad executable which will run in a CMD window. I don't know the exact commands anymore, but long story short, you want to push the OS install package (Self-installing OS NOT WITH CUSTOM INSTALL MENU) to your phones internal memory which after you'll need to execute by using TWRP. This i have done myself after i hard bricked my S6 edge the first day i got it. I used (by accident) Nand Erase including every other erase to get it back to work which just only put me to more trouble having me to use ADB SideLoad. I hope this bare information helps you out since i can feel the pain you are going through having to know you may have permanently lost your phone lol... Report back if it helped or if you need any more information regarding ADB SideLoad.
